…Small Encounters…
“Now in Shakespeare's play, Othello, the main character kills himself because…Bakura?" the teacher said pointing to the albino in the back of the classroom.
“Because your class is so fucking boring,” Bakura, a boy with bored brown eyes and spiky white hair, said as he leaned back in his chair and continued to count the tiles on the ceiling. A few muffled laughs were heard throughout the medium-sized classroom.
The teacher sighed and walked over to her desk where she wrote on a small, pink slip before going back to her lecture.
“Bakura,” whispered a crimson-eyed adolescent with a wild mane of red, black, and gold. “Can't you behave yourself for just one day? Maybe one hour?”
Bakura flashed his smaller companion a sheepish grin. “Let me think,” Bakura said placing a finger on his chin and tilting his head slightly, “…No.”
Yami shook his head. Bakura would never change. That was a sure fact. The loud, piercing sound of a bell rang throughout the school building and with that, all the students quickly got their stuff together and exited the classroom labeled 218. As Yami and Bakura walked passed the teacher's desk, Bakura grabbed the pink slip from the teacher's hand and walked out of the room.
Yami and Bakura made their way to their lockers, completely ignoring the giggles from the groups of girls that they passed. Yeah, this was the life. It was the beginning of senior year at Domino high school and Yami and his friends were having a blast. Not only were they the most popular and good-looking guys in school but they were also filthy rich. When Yami and Bakura reached their lockers, their other two friends were already there to meet them.
“Another detention Bakura?” said a tall brunet with ocean blue eyes as he looked down at the pink slip in the albino's hand. “It's only been a few weeks into the year and you've already had detention almost everyday.”
Bakura shrugged. “It's not my fault, Kaiba. These teachers' are so sensitive.”
“Yeah, it's their fault,” said an Egyptian, with dark lavender eyes and a crazy mess of blonde hair on his head, sarcastically.
“Marik,” Yami said addressing his blonde friend as he pulled a few books out of his locker, “Are you ready to go to math?”
Marik only rolled his eyes. “Am I ever ready?”
Yami laughed and then, after exchanging a few more words with Bakura and Kaiba, walked alongside Marik to their calculus class.
After the teacher kindly greeted Yami, like every other teacher did due to the fact that his father was a huge contributor to the accredited high school, Yami and Marik took their seats at the front of the class.
The teacher began to write equations on the board when someone knocked loudly on the classroom door. The teacher politely excused herself from the room after instructing the class to quietly solve the problems that she had written down.
Yami, who was very intelligent for his age, solved the problems with ease and then turned to help Marik.
“Marik, it's simple. All you need is to—“
Marik looked up when Yami suddenly stopped what he was saying.
“Yami?” Marik said waving his hand in front of his friend's blank face.
Yami didn't pay any attention though. He was too focused on the small boy who just entered the room and who was now standing directly in front of him.
“Hi!” the small boy with large amethyst eyes and a mane similar to his own. His cute face was graced with a bright smile and gentle features.
“Hi,” Yami replied slowly.
The small boy's smile widened as he said: “My name is Yugi.”
Yami continued to stare at the youth with curious eyes. “My name is Yami.”
The boy giggled cutely. “You're very handsome, Yami.”
Yami was slightly taken aback by the sudden remark but smiled nevertheless. “Thank you,” Yami said.
“Well, it was nice to meet you, Yami,” Yugi said happily and then quickly turned around and exited the room.
Yami stared in the direction that Yugi had disappeared for a few minutes until he heard a sharp annoying voice in his ear.
“YAMI!”
Yami shook his head. “Huh? Oh, sorry Marik,” Yami said.
Marik tilted his head to the side and said: “What the hell was that about? Why were you talking to yourself?”
Yami looked confused. “What do you mean? You were right here. You saw me talking to Yugi.”
Now it was Marik's turn to look confused. “Who's Yugi?”
Yami sighed in distress. “The boy I was just talking to.”
Marik raised both of his eyebrows. “Yami, you need to lay off of the pills or whatever you're taking.”
“Wait,” Yami said holding up his hands. “Are you trying to tell me that you didn't just see a small boy, who looked like me, talking to me?”
Marik shook at his head slowly and Yami was extremely annoyed with the look that Marik was giving him.
“Whatever, you must have not been paying attention,” Yami said waving Marik off.
“Okay Yami. Whatever you say,” Marik said redirecting his attention back to the math problems on his paper while Yami looked back to the classroom door where Yugi had exited.
Who are you?
….
“Hey,” Kaiba said as Yami and Marik approached him and Bakura at the lockers. “How was math?”
Kaiba raised an eyebrow when Marik pointed a finger at the side of his head and twirled it around.
“Fine,” Yami said sternly.
Kaiba looked from Yami back to Marik back to Yami.
“Where did Bakura go?” Marik said suddenly.
Both Kaiba and Yami looked to the spot where Bakura just stood, which was now empty.
“He was just here a second ago,” Kaiba said and then looked down the hall to see a white mane. “There he goes,” the brunet said pointing a finger at the albino's fleeting back.
“Where is he going?” Marik said and only got two shrugs in response.
“I don't know but let's go to our next class. He'll be there eventually,” Yami said and then, leading the way, walked to his History class.
Bakura was now on a hunt for a small albino, that had quickly walked passed him when he was standing with his companions, and who was now lost in the large crowd of bustling students. When the bell rang, signaling the beginning of class, all the students dissipated and now Bakura was left in the hallway alone.
“Damn it,” Bakura said to himself and then turned around sharply only to come face to face with a smiling boy. Bakura examined him. Medium height. Chocolate brown eyes. Snow white hair. Pale complexion.
After a few awkward minutes of silence, Bakura finally spoke. “Um…hello?”
The boy looked surprised. “You can see me?” he said incredulously.
Bakura furrowed his eyebrows. “Ahh…Yes,” he said slowly.
The boy looked pensive for a moment before saying brightly: “My name is Ryou. What is your name?”
“Bakura,” the other one replied.
Ryou opened his mouth to speak but was cut off when a teacher walked out of a classroom and then marched up directly to Bakura.
“Why aren't you in class?” the teacher demanded.
Bakura growled. “Leave me alone,” he said with a wave of his hand.
Bakura winced angrily when the teacher grabbed him by the ear and pulled him away. Ryou giggled at the scene and waved goodbye to Bakura as the teacher threw him into the classroom.
“Bye Bakura,” Ryou said and then walked away.
