...Secrets...
Yami walked down the stairs that led off of the large stage and paced down the long walkway until his eyes landed on two boys in the back of the auditorium. One he recognized as his Yugi but the other looked somewhat like Bakura. Yami soon made his way to the two talking boys and smiled when Yugi noticed his presence.
“Yami!” Yugi said happily running up to Yami. He almost gave him a hug but then remembered a small detail. He couldn't hug people. Not without Yami finding out his darkest secret anyways. Yami had also sensed that Yugi was going to pounce on him and opened his arms for him. He was slightly disappointed when Yugi stopped himself from embracing him but he didn't show it.
“You did so great!” Yugi said with a bright smile.
“Thank you Yugi. I have you to thank,” Yami said honestly. Yugi's eyes widened questionably. “Me?” he asked pointing to himself in such a cute manner that Yami had to bite back the urge to blurt out something that he would probably regret later.
“Yup you,” Yami said with a small smile. “You were my inspiration for that song.” Yugi blushed a deep scarlet and Yami couldn't help but chuckle at the color staining his little one's cheeks. His crimson eyes then wandered over to the other white-haired boy that had remained completely quiet until now. “Little one, who is your friend?” Yami asked politely.
Both Yugi and Ryou jumped at Yami's sudden comment. “What do you mean?” Yugi said in disbelief and was shocked even more when Yami motioned towards Ryou. Yugi quickly recovered himself and said slowly: “T-this is R-Ryou.”
Yami raised an eyebrow at the other's hesitant behavior but Yugi didn't even notice. Too many thoughts were flooded his mind at the moment. It didn't make sense. How could Yami see Ryou? There was no way…the only time that that happens is when—
“Hello Ryou. My name is Yami,” Yami interrupted Yugi's thoughts with the polite greeting that seemed a little forced. Ryou looked as confused as Yugi did but responded nevertheless.
“Hi Yami. It's nice to finally meet you. I've heard a lot about you,” Ryou said meekly.
“I wish I could say the same,” Yami said with a mysterious tone. Yugi tilted his head at Yami's sudden change in tone but forgot about it when someone beside them coughed abruptly. Yugi looked up to meet dark brown eyes that looked almost black.
“Bakura,” Yugi heard Yami say indifferently.
“Hello Yami, I see that you met Ryou,” Bakura said his eyes flickering to the other white haired boy. Yami nodded.
“Yes I have. Now if you will excuse us, we have to go,” Yami said signaling for Yugi to get up. Yugi obeyed quietly, waving goodbye to Ryou. There was something wrong with Yami's behavior.
Bakura gave Yami a quizzical look as the crimson-eyed teen exited the large auditorium by himself and then glanced down at the boy who was still sitting in his seat uncomfortably. “What was that about?” Bakura asked. Yami almost sounded angry.
Ryou just shrugged his shoulders. “I don't know,” he said softly. Bakura rolled his eyes. Damn Yami and his freakin' mood swings. His full attention then fell down to the boy below him. He hadn't seen Ryou since their first encounter.
"Can we go eat?" Ryou asked standing to his feet. Bakura furrowed his eyebrows. Was Ryou asking him to spend time with him? Ha, Ryou obviously didn't know him. Bakura did not spend time with people...but then again...Ryou was extraordinarily beautiful. Bakura would love to take him. To own him as a new play toy. Hmm...he wondered what it would take to get Ryou in bed with him. The boy seemed like the romantic type. Bakura sighed impatiently. He guessed that meant that he would have to spend time with Ryou if he wanted the other one to sleep with him. Well, it would probably be worth it in the end.
"Sure," Bakura said reluctantly. Ryou smiled brightly as he let the other one lead him out of the large room. 'This sure as hell better be worth it,' Bakura thought bitterly as an ice cream truck drove by and Ryou ran after it, urging the other to follow.
The walk home was quiet. While Yami kept his gaze on the road ahead of them, Yugi kept his gaze towards the ground. The atmosphere was heavy with unanswered questions. Why was Yami acting so strange? He seemed perfectly fine earlier. The thing that was still nagging on Yugi's mind was the fact that Yami was able to even see Ryou. The only way that Yami would be able to see Ryou, or any of his friends, would be if Yami's and Yugi's bond with each other is growing.
Every handful of people that could see Yugi also had the latent ability to see his friends but the only way they could do that would be if their bond was extremely strong. So if Yami was able to see Ryou, then that meant that their bond was very tight. Could Yami…love him? No, Yami would never love him. Yami was so beautiful. Why would he ever choose him?
Yugi was once again taken from his thoughts when he realized that they were in front of Yami's house. Entering the large place, Yami made his way to the kitchen and Yugi, hesitantly, followed him. Yami went straight to the refrigerator and pulled out some soda. He then went into a cupboard and proceeded to take out a glass cup. Yugi watched Yami from his spot near the door in silence. He had to say something. But what? What would he say?
“So, I see that you and Ryou are very close,” Yami said unexpectedly. Yugi looked up at the sudden remark.
“Um…yeah. We are,” Yugi said slightly confused and for a moment thought that Yami flinched. Something suddenly hit him as his amethyst eyes widened in realization.
“Is that what this is all about?” Yugi said cautiously and was answered when Yami looked away from his suspicious eyes. Was Yami...jealous?
“Yami, Ryou and I are just friends? That's all,” Yugi said reassuringly and then let his gaze fall to the floor. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you."
Yami hurriedly came over to Yugi and bent down slightly so that he was now eye level with Yugi. "No, Yugi it's my fault. I let my..." Yami quickly looked for the right word, "protectiveness over you get me upset. I'm sorry. You should be able to have friends without me getting suspicious."
Yugi flushed slightly at the other boy's words and, mustering up all the courage he had, said slowly: "Why? Would it bother you if I was with someone?" Yugi caught it. He caught the flash of emotion that flashed in Yami's crimson eyes. He knew that Yami would be upset if he was to belong to someone else. So did that mean that Yami wanted Yugi to belong to him?
"Yugi," Yami said and Yugi was taken aback with the amount of gentleness in the other boy's tone. "I...," Yami stopped. He couldn't find the word that he needed. So instead he leaned in until their lips were only inches apart. Yugi wanted so badly to run. If Yami kissed him, then he would find out the truth. But...Yugi couldn't move. He wanted Yami to kiss him. He wanted Yami to love him. And it took Yugi until that very moment to realize that he was in love with the beautiful crimson-eyed youth that stood before him.
Yami made a slight movement to lean further and Yugi, out of fear, moved his head back slightly. The hurt in Yami's eyes was radiating off of them painfully. Why wouldn't Yugi let him touch him? Yami suddenly realized that he had never touched Yugi. He had never felt Yugi's soft skin or ran his fingers through his silky hair. And why didn't Bakura even acknowledge Yugi's presence back at the auditorium. Dozens of questions filled Yami's mind but it all came back to one thought. Marik. Marik had never seen Yugi. No matter how many times they had been in the same room together. Yami thought about what Marik had told him and decided to test a small theory. The crimson-eyed youth attempted to push Yugi's bangs to the side of his flawless face only to have the other boy move away quickly.
“Yugi, what's wrong?” Yami said, the hurt completely vanished from his features and was now replaced with suspiciousness.
“Nothing,” Yugi said quickly, keeping his eyes on the ground. Yami made another gesture towards Yugi only to have him shrink away again. Yami began to come extremely doubtful of his first belief that Marik was crazy and that Yugi was normal.
“Yugi get over here!” Yami said persistently, pointing to the ground in front of him.
“No!” Yugi yelled, running to the other side of the kitchen.
“Don't make me chase you!” Yami threatened becoming extremely annoyed. He was going to get to the bottom of what Yugi was hiding if it was the last thing he did. Yugi stuck out his tongue in response; an action which caused Yami to become very pissed off.
“Don't provoke me!” Yami yelled, slowly approaching Yugi. Yugi repeated the action and then dashed out of the room when Yami made a grab for him.
“Yugi, come here!” Yami said, chasing Yugi throughout the living room. When Yugi ran past the other side of the sofa, instead of following his path, Yami ran on top of the sofa and jumped over it wrapping his arms around Yugi's running figure and landing painfully on the ground. When Yami opened his eyes, to his shock, Yugi wasn't there. What? He could have sworn that he had caught the smaller one. Standing to his feet, ignoring the throbbing pain in his back, he followed the smaller of the two back into the kitchen.
Yugi was quite the runner since he was so small but Yami on the other hand ran a little slower. At this point, Yami would never catch Yugi. Without thinking, Yami grabbed a small kitchen knife and tossed it at Yugi. The amethyst-eyed boy instantly let himself become transparent and the knife that was thrown went right through him and stuck into the wall. Yugi stopped where he stood and looked with wide eyes at the knife in the wall and then back to the distraught boy on the opposite side of the room.
“You threw a knife at me!?” Yugi yelled incredulously. What if Yami was wrong? What if he wasn't a ghost? Yami could have seriously hurt him.
“Me?! Don't you turn this around! You lied to me! You're not even real! You're a…a ghost!” Yami said not believing the words that were coming out of his mouth.
“I didn't lie to you! You were just too dumb to realize the truth!” Yugi spat back. How dare Yami yell at him. Even though he probably had the right.
Yami threw up his hands in frustration. “Oh, this is priceless!” he said in disbelief as he stomped out of the kitchen.
'Oh hell no! You're not getting out of this!' Yugi thought angrily following the other outside of the kitchen.
"And just where the hell are you going!?" Yugi yelled as Yami began to mount the stairs. "We have to talk about this!"
Yami turned to Yugi in a second, his ruby eyes flaring dangerously. "We! There is no we! How could you keep this from me! I trusted you Yugi! I l-" Yami stopped and slowly inhaled. After a few more minutes of silence, Yami turned back towards the stairs and without looking towards the other boy said: "I want you out of here."
Yugi's eyes instantly brimmed with tears. "W-what?" Yug said, hoping that he had heard wrong. Yami could tell that Yugi was about to cry with the crack in his voice. He couldn't handle it if Yugi cried because of him. "I said that I want you out. Please Yugi...my heart can't take this-"
"Your heart!" Yugi screamed in disbelief. "What about me!? How could I not see how selfish and uncaring you are!" the smaller said the tears finally released as they began to run down his cheeks. "I can't believe that I fell in love with you!" Yugi said and didn't notice when Yami's entire form went stiff because he was too busy walking out the front door. "Don't worry Yami. You will never have to see me again!" he said and then a loud bang echoed of the walls as the front door was slammed shut. Yami didn't move. He stayed in that spot as tears began to drip onto the floor beneath him.
