Cold Heart
Chapter One: Ignorance Corrupts One's Soul
For as long as Yugi Mutou, a freshman at Domino High School, could remember, he had no friends and everybody kept on bullying and picking on him. Then that changed. He was given a golden box from his grandpa. There were also golden puzzle pieces inside. He made a wish. He wanted true friends. Friends that will protect him from bullies, friends to make him happy whenever he was sad. That wish came true. He had become friends with some people. Joey Wheeler was his best friend. Then there was Tea Gardner, the girl of the group, Tristan Taylor who is desperately searching for true love, and Ryou Bakura, who himself has a millennium item that holds an evil spirit. Yugi had made another friend, one who the others didn't find out until later. He became friends with an ancient spirit, Pharaoh Yami who saved the world 5000 years ago. This ancient Pharaoh was sealed in the puzzle for 5000 long years. When Yugi completed the puzzled, he had released Pharaoh Yami. They were very close friends, those two. But something went terribly wrong. Something that made Yugi change forever.
Right after the Battlecity Tournament, Yugi and the gang became friends to the ones that tried to kill them. They were Malik Ishtar, the holder of the Millennium Rod, Marik, who is the spirit inhabiting the Millennium Rod, Bakura, who is the spirit of Ryou's Millennium Ring, and Ishezu Ishtar, the holder of the Millennium Necklace.
The friends had registered the three spirits and Malik for school. Ishezu went back to Egypt to work. Everything was going fine for the first few days, but that changed. Yami was given more attention too by his friends. Tea was crazy about Yami. Nobody noticed poor Yugi anymore.
~After School On Friday~
"Hey Yami! Wait up!" yelled his running friend Joey and his other friends trying to catch up with him.
"Hey Joey. Hey guys. What's up?" Yami asked. None of them noticed that Yugi was beside Yami the whole time.
"Wanna go see a movie? I got nine tickets." Explained Joey.
"Sure."
"But them there's this last ticket. Who else should we invite?" Joey asked.
"I dunno. Hey, ask Serenity if she wants to come." Tea suggested.
"Great idea Tea. Let's go to her school." With that said, the friends ran off, totally not knowing how Yugi felt.
Yugi stood there for a while until Seto Kaiba came out of the school.
"What's the matter with you, Yugi?" Seto asked innocently.
Shocked, Yugi turned around, "Oh, uh, nothing Seto. It's nothing at all." Yugi put on a fake smile.
"Well, if anything is bothering you, you can always tell me. I owe you for saving me and my brother a few times." Seto said and then headed towards his limo. "See ya Yugi." He waved and got into the limo and it drove away.
Yugi, hurt inside, started walking home by himself. He was about one block away from the Game Shop when someone grabbed his arm and pulled him into an alleyway.
He was holding Yugi up against the wall and made sure that his legs couldn't reach the ground and said, "Gimme all your money kid."
"NO!" Yugi yelled. Then he felt pain in his stomach.
"I'll just have to take it by force then!" hollered the man.
He had punched Yugi in the stomach repeatedly until he stopped. Yugi was gasping for air. The stranger the reached into Yugi's pocket and took all his cash and dropped Yugi to the cold ground and left laughing.
Yugi leaned against the wall. He sat there alone and the a few minutes later, he got up and started walking home.
The Game Shop was empty because Yugi's grandpa, Solomon Mutou was away on a archeological dig. But he was happy that today, his grandpa would be coming home. So Yugi was left alone with Yami but he mostly stayed home cause Yami would be hanging around with his friends and usually come home late at night.
Yugi dropped his school bag and got into the shower to clean himself. When he was done, he checked the answering machine to see if his grandpa called. His grandpa was the only one that seemed to care about him now. There was one message. Yugi pressed the red button and the message came on.
"Yugi, I'm sorry but I have to stay here in Egypt awhile longer because there is a big sandstorm and the weather man said it wouldn't stop for three days. Sorry, I guess I'll see you in three days. Take care of yourselves. Love your grandpa."
Yugi frowned and went into his room to do his homework. After being done, Yugi thought about his life and how his friends were ignoring him and all that. Yugi felt pain in his heart.
'I'm gonna leave. I'm gonna leave Domino, leave my friends, leave my grandpa. I know he'll miss me lots cause I know I'll miss him too but having only one person that cares isn't enough.' Yugi thought and then began to pack his things. 'Do I have everything? Passport? Check. Money? Check. Clothes? Check. Dueling deck? Check. Goodbye letter? Check.' With all the things that Yugi needed, he placed the goodbye letter on his empty desk. He left the Game Shop and saying one last goodbye, even though nobody heard him.
Yugi walked off towards Seto's mansion.
~Seto's Mansion~
Yugi rang the doorbell.
"Hello?" Mokuba asked. "Oh it's you Yugi! Come in. So, how are you?"
"Fine but where's Seto?"
"He's in his room. I'll go get him for you."
"Okay. Thank you."
With that said, Mokuba ran off and then a few minutes later, he came out with Seto by his side.
"Hey Yugi? What do you want?"
"I need to ask you a favor."
"Alright." Seto then looked at Mokuba and asked him to get him some coffee. Mokuba obeyed and went into the kitchen.
"Well, what's wrong?"
"Can you promise not to tell anyone?"
"I promise."
"I need you to buy me airplane tickets to Florida."
"WHAT?! Yugi, you're not serious are you?" Seto asked shocked.
"No, I'm completely serious. I don't want to live here with people who were my friends and now, they deserted me." Yugi explained sadly.
"Are you sure? Have you thought about things over?"
"Yes I have. Please Seto?" Yugi pleaded.
"But..."
"Please. I'm very sure."
"Alright I can't stop you to do something that you must do. Follow me." Set o stood up and Yugi followed him to a room. "Here's some money. That should be enough for a ticket."
"Thank you Seto."
"Well, just promise that you'll take care of yourself and call me when you get there, ok?"
"Okay, I promise. But remember your promise. You can't tell my friends and especially Yami, ok?"
"Okay."
"And no crossing you fingers."
"I didn't."
"Okay, well, I guess this is goodbye Seto."
"Yeah. My driver will drive you to the airport. Is that okay with you?"
"Sure it's okay."
And with that said, Yugi went outside and went into the limo and it drove him to the airport.
"Hey Seto, where's Yugi?" Mokuba walked in with a cup of coffee in his hands.
"He left." Seto simply stated. 'And maybe forever.' He added in his thoughts.
