Cold Night Air

Chapter 5

Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh! or Rugrats.

Penguins4Sale: I cannot believe it! ::looks over last chapter:: I am soooo sorry for the last chapter! It was terrible! I don't even remember writing half of it that is how tried I was. You are probably asking why I was even writing if I was so tried right? My answer is short, simple, and inexcusable: I was bored! Anyways, I'll try to make this one better to make up for the last one, and if you have not figured out who has been following her in her dreams, then you will find out in this chapter. But if you managed to notice the little hint in (I think) chapter one, good for you! ::hands you a sack of potatoes:: I love potatoes, don't you?!

p.s. Just a reminder: -italics- ::actions:: ~visions/memories~

~ 6:36 pm.~

Serenity took of her shoes as she walked into the living room. It had been six business days since she had been fired (that would make it the next Monday if you did not know), and she had yet to find another job.

Everyone turned her down for one reason or another, and the last job she had on her list was a job in the Emergency Room at the Domino Hospital. She was not going to be treating patients, but she would sign them in, and answer calls. That was good enough for her. It may not be a lot of money, but it was something, and that's all that mattered.

"Then that's what I'll do." She confirmed more to herself than anyone else. Not that there was anybody else to talk to anyways, but she tended to talk to herself when she was alone. It was kind of a self-comforting thing. She hated silence it made her uncomfortable...

Serenity practically skipped to her room, only stopping to glance at the most recent newspaper that sat on her small coffee table. She would have kept walking to her room, if the front cover had not caught her eye.

"The woman found only days before, notified as Jane Doe, has mysteriously disappeared from the city morgue. Investigators assume that her killer -may- have taken her body in a desperate attempt to not only prevent conclusive results on how she died, but to more importantly hide who her attacker really was." Serenity quoted aloud. She stopped only to take a deep breath, and then continue.

"'Someone very sick and very demented, most likely the murderer themselves, has stolen the body. We are sure of that. I mean it's not like she got up and walked out herself.' Confirmed a newly recruited detective of Domino Police Agency, who has wished to remain anonymous...continued on page A4."

Serenity finished reading and took a step back. `This city has gotten weirder since I was little.' She thought to herself.

Just then, a flash in her mind knocked her off her feet, and sent her sprawling on the tan carpet that filled her small living room.

Gruesome visions appeared in her mind, as they slowly formed an even more horrendous motion picture. Like a movie put on mute, she watched with no sound but the beating of her heart, and the sound of rapid beating. Perhaps heavy breathing or even, wings?

~She saw a woman, running for her life. However, the view she had of the woman was from the sky as if Serenity was flying over the city.

She swooped down and grabbed the woman, and then twirled her around, pushing her into an alley. The next scenes were so horrible Serenity could hear herself scream out in horror. But her voice sounded far away, like she was screaming in another part of town or something.

When at last Serenity's screams had subsided, all that was left of the woman was a mangled body, and blood splattered everywhere. She had just watched herself tear this poor woman to pieces, she had seen herself beat this woman to the point of death, and worse, she saw herself drink this woman blood as though it were wine.

In the next vision, she saw herself standing next to a table with a thin white sheet covering what appeared to be the outline of a human. Though she had never been here, she somehow recognized it as the morgue that was built about four blocks from her apartment complex.

She saw what she assumed to be her hand, pulling the sheet off the still figure, and then waiting for something. Staring at the woman, she recognized her as the woman she saw herself kill!

After waiting for only a couple of seconds, the woman began to stir. Her eyes opened lazily, and then looked up at Serenity's face.

"Master," the woman replied with relieved in her voice.

"Yes, I have come to release you form this damned place," Serenity heard herself speak. Though it was not her voice, she felt her lips move as the dark, and mysterious voice flowed from them.

The woman jumped off the table, and walked up to Serenity's face.

"I am in your debt." The woman whispered seductively.

"Just stay away from me, and we are even." Serenity heard herself growl in the same cold voice as before. What she also noticed was that it was masculine.

"Humph." was all the woman said as she walked out of the room, and probably out of the building. ~

As fast as the thoughts and visions came, they quickly left Serenity's mind leaving her an emotional wreck on the floor. She sat there and sobbed for at least five more minutes until yet another thought entered her mind.

~ She was sitting on a small bench in a beautiful courtyard filled with cherry blossoms and the smell of lavender, when someone came up behind her and whispered in her ear.

"I have come to finally take you away. Come with me, do not cry, and be with me, by my side." It was the same voice she heard herself speak with to the woman, but this time it was calm, caring, and welcoming. As was the arms that had managed to snake around her small waist.

"Who are you?" Serenity asked, not even looking up to see the man's face. She knew who it was. However his name he never told her.

"I shall meet you soon, very soon." ~

Serenity once again found herself on her floor. However, not crying this time. No, it was more of a lifted feeling. That is when she thought to herself.

`What if the man in my dreams is not evil? What if he is an angel!' She smiled at the thought. Maybe those years of being so afraid were just misunderstandings.

She got up off the floor with more energy and liveliness than she had ever felt before. Heading to her bedroom, she took the newspaper she had read earlier, and tore it in half.

Passing by the trashcan, she shoved the whole thing in the plastic bin, and sighed in relief. She was a little more secure now, and a little happier. That was just what he wanted her feel...

---

Instead of heading for her bedroom, Serenity decided to take a shower. Therefore, she grabbed a towel, and headed for the bathroom.

---

As she stood under the warm water, she thought about her life. Her brother, her job (her old job I should say), and how her life will get better. She just had to put forth the effort.

Thinking about her brother, reminded her of the discussion they had a little earlier that morning. She had not gone to work, and Joey was suspicious. Though she tried to brush it off as no big deal, Joey kept pushing the matter, and she ended up spilling about how she fell asleep at work, got into a fight with Kaiba, and how she ended up getting fired. It did not go too well, but Joey eventually got over it, and fell asleep watching, O.o Rugrats?!

Serenity gasped, startled by a person standing outside her shower curtain, and screamed.

"Shhhh," the person cooed on the other side of the shower curtain, bringing their fingers to their lips to emphasize their point.

"Who are you?!" Serenity asked, shaking.

Though broad details were seen, facial features such as eyes and jaw structure, could not be recognized through the pink-tinted curtain.

"I'm you're angel." The voice smirked. That is when she realized who was speaking, and that they heard her thoughts earlier. `But how?'

"We are connected Serenity. I can see your memories and you can see mine. I can hear your thoughts, and you soon will hear mine," The man answered, "As you may have already noticed."

"But who are you?!" Serenity asked, feeling braver this time.

"I am Bakura, love." He threw back the curtain and smiled. She noticed two sharp fangs poking out and resting half way down his bottom lip.

All she could do was yet again gasp.

"You're a-"
