Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Common Grounds ❯ Cards Of Fate ( Chapter 16 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Mistress: Yeah I was thinking of Yu Yu Hakusho when I though up Ryou's screen name, and smexyshrimp is just something I came up with. I use the word smexy often and I thought that in this Yugi would be proud of his height. King of Egypt is something I took from what my friends call me, Queen of Egypt, you see there's this card game called ERR (Egyptian Rat Race ) and I'm almost unbeatable at it. Anyway that's one reason.
I updated `cause I had to stay home, I was too sick to go to school, so here's your update!
I have a new one-shot up, Don't Break My Heart Twice, it was an answer to a request, it's a BR fluff.
Chapter 15: Cards Of Fate
I run my finger along the spine of the book as I sit in bed. I'm sick and my doctor told me not to move from my bed. You come in looking worried and gingerly seat yourself on a stool. I shake my head and tell you to make yourself comfortable, it's not like I'm dying. I open the book and we begin once more.
That morning as Yumi got ready for school her mood reflected the weather outside, sunny. In fact she was so happy because her “plan” was working that she couldn't help but hug her parents and Yami that morning. Of course after she had hugged Yami he had screamed something within the vicinity of, `What do you want?' and pushed her off. Yumi had merely cackled and patted him on the head. She was feeling giddy and began forming the next step of her plan.
She had skipped most of the way to school and stopped only as her friends began to talk about getting her a soothing drink or giving her a free trip to the man with the nice white jackets. Seeing as Yami had taken his car he had arrived at school first. He was sitting with Mark and Bakura at their “spot”. Bakura was sitting on the table and Yami and Marik were seated next to him on the bench.
“No shit?” Yami asked staring at his friends who had both had close encounters with the Outcast's. Bakura and Ryou had met because of tutoring and Marik because he wrecked Malik's bike.
“Nope,” Bakura replied popping another piece of candy into his mouth.
“Amazing if I do say so myself. Contaminated?” Yami asked.
Marik and Bakura laughed. “Nope, it wasn't too bad actually,” Bakura admitted with a grin.
Yami and Marik stared at Bakura and Yami placed his hand on Bakura's forehead, “No fever.”
“I'm not sick,” Bakura said clenching his fists and glaring at him, “besides Marik admitted before you came that he didn't mind the company either!”
Yami looked at Marik shocked while Marik glared at Bakura who was smirking smugly. “You're putting words into my mouth; I said I felt sorry for the kid.”
Bakura rolled his eyes, “Riiiight.”
Yami shushed them both as he noticed Yumi heading towards them, waving her friends good bye.
“Why are you grinning?” Marik asked sourly as Yumi came within hearing distance.
“Oh you know, it's such a bright happy glorious wonderful day,” Yumi said seating herself next to Bakura and stealing some candy. Bakura snatched the bag back she pretended to look offended.
“You've been acting very strange all morning,” Yami said as he glared at his younger sister.
“Ah lay off me! Can't a person be happy?” Yumi replied with a wave of her hand.
“Tch, not you, you're a morbid little person and I know you're planning something and I'm going to find out,” Yami said.
“Aw, a lover's spat,” Marik said as he clutched his hands together and then ducked to avoid a punch from Yumi.
“Not even if he was the last man on earth,” she said as she tried to take another swipe at Marik who stood up and moved.
“I resent that,” Yami replied, “but agree anyway.”
Before Yumi could take another try at hitting Marik the bell rang, “It's been lovely gents but I have to run, ta ta!”
“Your sister scares me,” Bakura said as they watched her skip to the school entrance.
“Try living with her,” Yami replied as he too began walking towards school.
The day passed relatively silently, the only commotion caused by a small spill of acid in the science lab. Ryou had to run off to his part time job and Malik had to stay after and fix half of the computers in the computer lab. The school viewed it as cheaper repair. Having nothing better to do Yugi agreed to come over to Yumi's house. She had also asked him to bring his Duel Monsters deck.
“Why do you walk home? Can't your brother drive you?” Yugi asked as they left the school premises.
“He could I guess but he won't unless it's pouring rain or sleet or snow….Isn't that what the weather man says?” Yumi said.
Yugi laughed, “He won't, and no that's what the postmen say.”
Yumi shrugged and turned a corner, “Ah well, besides I wouldn't want to sit in his car, who knows what germ and bacteria live in there.” Yumi shuddered as her mind wondered to what unsanitary things went on in her brother's car.
Yugi laughed and they walked the rest of the way to Yumi's house discussing the fine anatomy of Yami's brain. Yumi turned the knob on the door and cursed seeing as it was locked. “Dumb idiot,” Yumi muttered as she pulled out her key.
“We're home!” she exclaimed as they walked into the foyer.
Yami walked down the stairs and glared at the two newcomers, “What's he doing here?”
Yumi smirked, “I invited him over. He's my friend but if you had a brain in that skull you would've been able to put one and one together. That equals two by the way.”
Yami glared down at Yumi and walked the rest of the way downstairs. As Yumi opened her mouth to introduce them Yami held up a hand to silence her, “We've met.”
Yumi smirked and grabbed Yugi's arm and Yami's, “ Now now boys, no need to fight. Yugi was just coming over to prove to me that he is the best at Duel Monsters.”
“Feh, he the best? Well that has to be wrong seeing as I am,” Yami replied as Yumi dragged them both to Yami's room.
“He's delusional,” Yugi replied.
“How about this you two duel it out!” Yumi suggested.
If the two boys hadn't been too intent on defeating each other they would've noticed the satisfied smirk forming on Yumi's face as the two agreed to duel each other. As the two boys sat down and drew out their decks Yumi asked, “Where are our parents?”
“Oh they went off to some party they were invited to,” Yami said as he shuffled Yugi's deck.
“Anybody else hungry? I'm going to go make something to eat,” Yumi said and the only reply she got was a grunt from both of them.
Yumi rolled her eyes and muttered `boys' as she walked away to make something to eat. As she began to prepare their dinner she began to think back to her plan. She knew her brother was lonely whether he admitted to it or not, he also needed an attitude adjustment… or maybe a view adjustment. Same went for Bakura and Marik. They were all too wrapped up in the image they were supposed to play. Then there were her three friends. They were also lonely; anybody who knew them for more than three seconds could see that. Her plan had formed shortly after she had met the three boys and befriended them. One night as she was lying in she thought of it, the perfect solution to take care of both of them. All she had to do was pray that the saying `Opposites Attract' truly was true.
As she finished with dinner she began to walk upstairs. She stopped at the door and peeked in. what she saw made her face split into a wide grin. Yami and Yugi were talking… like normal people! Yumi smiled softly as she watched them talk to each other, even seeming interested in what the other person was saying. By the looks of it they had started a new game. Yumi knocked on the door and entered.
“Food's ready,” she said.
“Good, I was starting to get hungry,” Yami said standing up and walking through the door.
“He's not too bad is he?” Yumi whispered as she began to walk downstairs with Yugi.
“At Duel Monsters or personality wise?” Yugi asked.
“Personality,” Yumi replied with a laugh.
“No he's not that bad…” Yugi replied as they entered the kitchen.
Yami was already seated in the kitchen and had placed three plates out. One for each of them. Yugi surprisingly enough seated himself next to Yami. Yumi seeing this tried her best to hide the satisfaction in her eyes.
“Wow, you're parents actually let you skip?” Yugi asked as he picked up his fork.
Yami nodded and felt slightly glad that the young boy was interested in what he was saying. “ Yeah, but not since Yumi came. I'm supposed to be a good role model.” He said using air quotes.
Yugi laughed and neither of the boys noticed Yumi slip away with her dinner. The bell chimed and the two teens jumped slightly. Yugi glanced at the large grandfather clock and his face paled.
“Something wrong?” Yami asked as he began to clear away the dishes.
“Nothing really, it's just that I have to be home in ten minutes and I'd never be able to walk all the way there in that time,” Yugi said looking forlorn.
Yami took Yugi by the arm and brought him to the garage, “Who said you were walking?”
I smile and close the book, finally Stage One of Yumi's plan is completed. Before you leave you ask me if there's anything you can do to help me, I laugh and tell you as long as you come back for more of the story you're doing plenty.

Mistress: Yeah yeah I know, somebody is going to flame me for this later… ah well, nothin' I can do about it ne. Since they both seem like Duel Monsters freaks (even in the original anime ) I decided that to be the way to get them together. It had to be something they had in common like Malik and Marik's love for bikes. Anyway I think some RYOUBAKURA fluff is coming up next.
