Chapter 23: Departure
Yumi woke up with a feeling of dread. March 13th had come. She lay in bed, her eyes scanning the ceiling she had come so used to seeing. It had become home for her… She sat up and pretended to get ready for school as she usually did. There was no need to alert Yami of anything unusual. She knew she couldn't face her friends or say goodbye.
“Hey Yumi! Hurry up we're gonna be late!” Yami called from downstairs.
Yumi smiled sadly at her reflection in the mirror and yelled back, “You go ahead! I'll meet you at the school!”
She waited until she heard the front door close before taking her shower. She brooded over the situation in her mind as the water droplets ran down her back.
“Yumi, I ironed your most comfortable traveling clothes for you, they're on the counter,” she heard her mom call.
Yumi called something back and went back to her shower. She felt so sad… and depressed…she really didn't want to leave… but the choice had been made…and it would be rude to tell Mrs. Vaskwitch that she didn't want to move in, after all, after she had gone through all that trouble. She sighed and turned the shower off glad that the wet was hiding her tears. Yumi dressed quickly and told Mr. and Mrs. Moto that she'd be out for a moment.
Her feet felt heavy as she walked down the sidewalk. Her head was bent and her eyes were fixed onto her sneakers. A soft sigh escaped from her lips as she crossed the street and headed towards the park. As she walked further she paused at a bench and felt a sharp pain rupture through her body. Seto…. Yumi shook her head and continued to walk. If she were to dwell on her memories for too long she might actually completely reconsider her leave… and she couldn't do that.
Yumi sighed as she stopped at the bridge. She pulled her bangs behind her ears and gazed down at her reflection.
“What the hell are you so sad about? This is what you wanted from the beginning right?” she asked her reflection, sharpening her eyes in a glare.
“But is it still?” her reflection shot back and she froze briefly.
She had a good point. Yumi smile sadly and turned away, heading to the other side of the park, knowing she would pass the school on her way there. `It's already been decided,' she thought as she glanced at her watch and noticed that she had four more hours before she had to be driven to the airport.
Back at the school, after three and a half hours had passed in the lunch room there was commotion. The people were shocked, and most of the girls in the school had fainted, were sobbing, or throwing a fit. A few people were actually pleased and were exchanging friendly nods and smiles to show their approval. Those who had not heard, or weren't there for the speech were running into the cafeteria to see the truth for their own eyes. The rumor was Bakura, Yami, and Marik were gay, and the added bonus was that the people they were dating were the Outcasts Ryou, Yugi, and Malik! The three boys had announced so during lunch. At first they had gathered a crowd, not that it was difficult to do. Then they had ushered the three “Outcasts” to the stage and kissed them, right in front of everybody. At first, Yugi, Malik, and Ryou had been shocked and embarrassed, but their frowns soon turned into grins as they heard the speech that the boys delivered. They were coming out.
Ryou, Yugi, and Malik had been delighted, more than delighted. Ecstatic! They were so happy, so surprised that the three of them would make such a sacrifice for them. Although it would be better now that they didn't have to hide in the bathrooms to kiss but could do so openly the three were worried about what others would think. Marik, Bakura, and Yami had made sure to assure their loves that no matter what as long as they had each other it wouldn't matter what anyone else thought of them. Malik accused them of having been brainwashed by Yumi and the three boys reluctantly agreed. Even so they were happy, especially Yugi, Ryou, and Malik.
“You sure it's okay for us to be seen together?” Yugi asked shyly as he walked down the hall with Yami, holding his hand. “I mean we're ya know… O…”
Yami silenced Yugi with a quick kiss and smiled at the younger boy.
“Yugi… we're on common ground now,” he said as he leaned down to give the blushing boy another kiss.
Yumi stood outside the gates and listened to the conversation. Her lips curved into a knowing smile as she heard their topic of conversation.
“Well done,” she muttered as she removed herself from the wall and began her way back to the house.
It was almost time to go. She took one last lap around the neighborhood, memories tugging painfully at her heart, threatening to break it. She finally reached the house and opened the door, her luggage was already out. She walked up the stairs to check around her room one last time. Yumi looked at jer watch and knew before Mrs. Moto came to announce it that it was time to go.
“Yumi it's-”
“I know… I'll be right there,” Yumi said as she glanced at her mother who had come from the garage.
She heard her close the door. She looked one last time around her room a few tears slipping from her eyes. Trying to get her emotions under control she imagine large iron doors slamming closed inside of her. With a long miserable sigh Yumi descended the stairs.
“Are you sure you don't want to drop by the school and say good bye?” Mrs. Moto asked as she got into the back seat of the car.
Yumi nodded silently and stared out the window.
Yumi stared at the letter and walked down the stairs. Mr. and Mrs. Moto were reading newspapers while talking. Mrs. Moto looked up and smiled her smile fading as she noticed her daughters troubled look.
“What's wrong?” she asked as Yumi seated herself.
Yumi pushed the letter packet towards her, keeping the personal letter with her. Mr. Moto put down his newspaper and picked up the packet. He began reading through them understanding most of it immediately. He handed the papers wordlessly to his wife.
After reading and re-reading them several times Mrs. Moto looked up teary eyed.
“You're leaving? But you just got here,” Mrs. Moto protested.
“I don't… want to leave… but she's done so much work for me, and it would be rude to turn down her offer, besides now I can finish my education in the states,” said Yumi voicing what she had been thinking about for the last few hours.
“True…” Mrs. Moto said, “but…oh I may be selfish but I don't want you to leave here. You have a good school and good friends… which reminds me we have to tell them and Yami.”
Yumi looked up, “Don't tell them, please.” Mr. and Mrs. Moto looked surprised, “I don't want them to worry…to think about me leaving. Please don't tell them.”
Mr. Moto smiled sadly at Yumi, “We won't…but they won't be too happy with us you know…”
Yumi stood up and went over to hug her parents. “Thank you so much…”
The car pulled to a stop at the airport. Mr. Moto got out of the car and helped her carry her bags. She stood as they checked her ticket with a parent at each side.
“I can handle it from here, you have an appointment to go to,” Yumi said as she hugged each parent.
“Oh Yumi, we wish you wouldn't go,” Mrs. Moto said as she hugged her daughter tightly.
Mr. Moto hugged Yumi as well picking her slightly off of the ground, “If you ever need anything. Give us a call.”
Yumi had unshed tears in her eyes as she hugged them back both with all her might, willing the moment to last longer.
“See you when I see you,” she said her voice breaking slightly although she had almost whispered it.
Mrs. Moto bent down to give Yumi one more kiss before they disappeared out the door.
Back at the school Ryou, Yugi, Malik, Bakura, Marik, and Yami had found out something very disturbing. Their teacher had announced after their break that Yumi was moving back to the states and had told the teachers to say good bye to the classes and thank you. After hearing this of course Yami had sprinted out of class and fetched Yugi while Bakura and Marik retrieved Ryou and Malik. Running into Marik's car they began to make their way towards the airport.
“What time does her flight leave?!” Marik asked as she sped through the traffic narrowly avoiding a collision.
“I don't know but step on it!” Yami replied from the back seat.
Marik's car sped into the parking lot of the airport. They sprang out of the car and headed towards the reception. There was only one flight leaving for the United States and I was from Gate 6 in the next ten minutes. They sprinted across the terminal desperate to reach Yumi before she left. They heard as the final call for Gate 6 ran. The skidded to a halt as they reached Gate 6 and almost cried in relief as they saw Yumi.
“Yumi!” Marik called as he spotted Yumi about to hand her ticket over.
Yumi turned around, her eyes wide and red, glistening with tears.
AUTHORS BLAH BLAH
Mistress; Cliffy! Cliffy! ^^ It's a cliffy! Heh, anyway that's where I'm ending this. There's one more chapter left where Yumi exists. After this she's gone, (sniff) then there are three chapters each with a respective lemon! Which reminds me! I am now taking applications ( I am requesting ) for someone to write a lemon for each of them, I'll edit them of course to my liking but the actual lemon lemon part I don't have the time to write, yeah I should get back into the practice but meh. O-o
Guidelines:
You can write a lemon for one pair, or all three. I will choose which ones go into the story.
All you have to do is write the lemon, I will modify it to fit the story/form the chapter around the lemon.
Send it to me through e-mail!
Thank you!
