Concrete Angel

By Yami Kitsune

~Walkin' to school with the lunch she packed.
Nobody what she's holdin' back~

I walk down the street going to school.

~Warring the same dress she wore yesterday.

She hides the bruises with the linen and lace.~

I walk into school, doing my best to hide the bruises on my back and arms. I take my seat in the corner of the class, somewhere in the back. My teacher looks at me as I come in but just continues with the class.

~The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask.

It's hard to see the pain behind the mask.~

At lunch I sit alone on the bench outside the school. I watch the other kids laugh and play.

~Barring the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never borne.~

After school I go to my secret place where I can be alone. I know father will be mad that I didn't come home after school but I want to stay away as long as I can.

~Through the wind and the rain she stands hard as a stone

In a world that she can't rise above.

But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved.
Concrete angel~

I get home late and my father is waiting up for me. I drop my backpack by the door and try and make it up stairs before he can catch me. But no such luck. He raises his hand and hits me over and over.

~Somebody cries in the middle of the night

The neighbors hear but they turn out the light~

I lay there on the floor bleeding. I know I should get up but I can't find the strength. I start to feel light headed and my eyes slide shut. My father has left. People hear me cry but they don't do any thing.

~A fragile sole trapped in the hands of fate.
When morning comes it will be to late.

Through the wind and the rain she stands high as a stone

In a world that she can't rise above.

But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved.

Concrete angel~

I watch from the tree as people come around and look at the gravestone with the angel on it.

~A statue stands in a shaded place

An angel girl with an upturned face~

I smile as the people who were supposed to be my friends come and look at it. Then I saw some one there I thought I would never see. I thought by now everyone would have forgotten me.

~A name is written on a polished stone
A broken heart that the world forgot~

"Please. Come back to me. You are strong to have put up with me and your father this long. I--I'm sorry--my hikari."

~Through the wind and the rain she stands hard as a stone

In a world that she can't rise above.

But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved.

Concrete angel.~
