Cries for Help
Ch1 - Torn and Shattered
Seto Kaiba, world-renowned CEO, was riding in his fancy limo to his mansion, just like any other day. Asked to describe the CEO, many would say intelligent, sexy, cold-hearted, and deprived of human contact. All are true. Seto Kaiba could not be where he is today; not the president of the largest gaming corporation in the world, without his intelligence. And, with his six foot height, lean body, classy brunette locks, and piercing blue eyes, he was easily one of the most beautiful creatures alive. He is also uncaring, ruthless, and has no friends. He cares only for himself and his brother; the rest of the world is an enemy who could take everything he worked so hard for away from him.
But, there is one thing that most people don't know about the fierce CEO. As a child, he was beaten by his stepfather, raped, and forced to work unreasonably hard. He paid for everything he has in his blood, pain, sweat, and tears. So, perhaps that's why the cold-hearted CEO did what he did.
He was staring out the window of his limo, not concentrating on anything at all, when a mop of tricolor hair caught his eye. Yugi Motou. A world champion duelist with the demeanor of a child. Innocent, playful, and intent on winning.
Who knows what made Seto ask the driver to stop. Perhaps it was his clothes, tattered, torn, and disarrayed. Or maybe it was the cuts and bruises. Or possibly it was the cold, empty look in his rival's normally playful eyes; a look that did not suit the boy in the least.
Seto stepped out of his limo, sporting a black trench coat instead of his silver one, and walked over to Yugi, the coat billowing out behind him. When he reached the boy, he asked a question foreign to his lips.
“Yugi, what happened to you?”
Yugi looked at his rival with wide eyes.
`Why does Kaiba care about me? Who cares that my grandfather, who is stronger than he looks, beat me and cut me, and left me out on the streets to die? I mean, Kaiba would be the last person I would expect to help me. No matter, I can't tell him…'
~Flashback~
The resounding slap of flesh against flesh was heard ringing throughout the room. Yugi cringed and stumbled backwards, his hand gingerly rising to his cheek. He never understood why his grandfather did this. At times he was loving and caring, and at others, he was mean and ruthless. Another slap and the sound of a body making contact with the wall. Yugi slid down to the bottom, unable to comprehend what was happening. His grandfather walked up and kicked him in the side, causing Yugi to gasp from the pain of his ribs breaking. Then tears sprung to his eyes as he felt a blade slide over his body. The word stop rang like a mantra in his head, trying to concentrate on anything other than the pain.
Then, after the murderous assault was over, Yugi was thrown out on the streets with a warning.
“I never want to see you step foot in this house again. If you come back, even if it's just for your possessions, I'll kill you. Oh, and if I find out you gained help from someone, you're both as good as dead.” He punctuated the end with the click of a gun loading.
~End Flashback~
“Nothing, it's nothing.”
Seto growled. “Don't lie to me Yugi; I'm trying to help you, and what thanks do I get?!”
Before Yugi knew what he was doing he blurted out, “I can't tell you, or else he'll kill me!” Yugi gasped and put a hand over his mouth, his eyes wide.
Seto was really curious now. “Yugi,” Seto tried again, reaching for the boy, but when his hand almost came in contact with the boy's shoulder, the tricolor duelist involuntarily backed away. Seto eyes filled with unfamiliar sympathy.
“Your grandfather beats you, doesn't he?”
Yugi looked even more afraid now, if that was even possible, and trembled slightly, but nodded his head in the affirmative.
“Listen Yugi, I know what it's like to be in a situation like that. My stepfather, Gozaburo, beat me when I was a small child. If everything was not done exactly right, I was beaten and raped. I know what it's like to have nowhere to go and no one to turn to. Let me help you. You can stay in the mansion for a while, until you get things straightened out.”
Yugi was clearly surprised, but accepted the CEO's offer. On the way to his mansion, Seto wondered what he had done.
`Why did I help him? I suppose I sympathize with him, considering I was once in a similar situation. But I can't quite place the sinking feeling I get when I look at his bruised and cut body. It makes me want to go strangle someone or search for a spell that'll make all his pain go away…Do I really care for the tricolor duelist?'
Seto had no more time to ponder his thoughts as the limo pulled into the mansion. Seto and Yugi stepped out and proceeded into the massive house.
Yugi couldn't help but openly stare in awe at the sheer size of the mansion. Red brick and oak doors were a drastic contrast to the steel exoskeleton of Kaiba Corp. Inside, the place was cozy, not artificial like Seto's workplace. In the center of the massive living room was a spiraling marble staircase, which went up for four stories. Yugi could only imagine how many rooms the place held. He also slightly blanched at the thought of how easily one could get lost. Yugi was torn out of his thoughts by a bubbly voice.
“Niisama!”
Mokuba made a move to run down the staircase, but stopped short when he saw Yugi there.
“Niisama?”
Seto looked at his brother. “Yugi will be staying with us for a while. He is having…problems…at home.”
Mokuba's eyes slightly teared up in understanding. “If you need anything Yugi…”
Yugi looked up and smiled his thanks.
“Come,” Seto commanded, walking up the stairs, motioning for Yugi to follow him.
Yugi followed his rival up the stairs and counted one…two…three rooms down the right hallway. Seto opened the door and stepped inside. The room was simple enough; it contained a queen size bed, a small dresser, and a closet. Yugi liked it immediately.
“Mokuba can lend you some of his clothes until we go and get your things. Then…”
“No!” Yugi cried out in horror.
“No?”
“You…you can't. My grandfather isn't himself. He already threatened to kill anyone who helps me or if I return. I'd never forgive myself if I let the one who tried to help me get hurt. Can't you just scrounge up some things here?”
Seto let out a sigh. “Alright, we'll make do with what we have here.”
Seto left for a moment then returned with a grey t-shirt and jeans. “Put these on. Dinner will be ready in about five minutes. I suggest you eat now, because I don't want you raiding my refrigerator in the middle of the night. I don't expect you to be roaming the mansion at night, either. Leave your room only to come to my room, Mokuba's, or my study, and only if it's important. I don't have time for petty things.”
Yugi nodded and changed once Seto had left and closed the door behind him. After he changed out of his ragged, blood-stained clothes, he proceeded to the kitchen.
Yugi sat down at the table and eyed the food like he hadn't eaten in days. Which was true. Back home, he would take two bites of something, only to have it whisked away, his grandfather claiming that was enough. He was surprised that his food didn't disappear after two bites.
Seto watched Yugi as he ate. He was…strange. Yugi would eye the food like it was the last edible thing on the planet, eat two bites of it, then stare in rapt fascination over the fact that his food was still there. Like he had expected it to just walk off.
“Yugi,” Seto said after a time, “The food will not disappear if you take more than two bites of it.”
Yugi's head shot up in surprise of actually being addressed to by the CEO, then a faint blush spread across his cheeks.
“Sorry. I guess I'm so used to having my food taken away after the first few bites that I can't believe it's still here.”
Seto eyed Yugi's too-thin frame. Oh yeah, he definitely needed to eat more.
“Well,” Seto said, “I can assure you, the food is not going to be taken away until you're finished with it. So stop staring at it in fascination and just eat.”
Yugi returned to his food, trying to eat it a little faster.
Later that evening, Seto was typing on his computer when he heard a cry from Yugi's room. Concerned, Seto walked down the hall to the young duelist's room and opened the door without a moment's hesitation. When he looked inside, he saw Yugi on his knees on the bed, clutching his side. His fingers dug into the crimson sheets and shiny drops of crystal fell from his eyes, falling down his cheeks. He quickly walked over to Yugi and pulled on his shoulders, drawing him into his lap as he seated himself on the bed.
“Yugi, what's wrong?”
“I…tripped and fell…on the bed and hit my chest on the side of it,” Yugi gasped out in pain.
Seto gently pulled Yugi's hand away from his the side of his chest, only to find a thin layer of blood on the palm. He gingerly lifted up Yugi's shirt, exposing a bruised chest. It was then that he saw what was causing Yugi so much pain. His ribcage was dotted with various bumps, indicating broken ribs. There was one part where a rib had broken through the skin, blood bubbling around it. Seto retrieved his phone out of his trench coat and called the doctor, the one that was on call twenty-four-seven for Seto. That taken care of, he closed his cell and slipped it back into his pocket and picked Yugi up, carrying him to the couch in the living room.
The doctor confirmed Seto's suspicion of a broken ribcage and asked if he could take Yugi to the hospital and he could pick him up after work. Seto let him take Yugi on the thread of his manhood if anything happened to him. Surprisingly to Seto, sleep came uneasy that night.
Yugi woke up early the next morning to find himself in a sterile hospital room. He gingerly sat up and touched the bandages on his chest, trying to remember what happened.
`Last night, I tripped and fell on the side of my bed and my broken ribcage slammed against it. Then Kaiba came in and…no way. I must be hallucinating. There is no way Kaiba came in there and set me on his lap…Seto must be out of his mind. …Why did I just call him Seto?! What's happening to me? Could I be falling for my rival?'
Yugi sat in his hospital room most of the day, except for the few times they let him get up and go to the small recreation room. All in all, they day was quite boring.
Around seven, when Seto still could not leave work, he called a security guard to pick Yugi up. When he received a call thirty minutes later, telling him Yugi was fine and at the mansion, Seto let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. When he finally returned home at eight that evening, he went straight to Yugi's room. He wanted to see with his own eyes that he was alright. He gently rapped on the door, and, when no reply was heard, he opened it to a painful sight.
Yugi was huddled in the corner of the room, sobs raking through his body; his shoulders shaking. His head was buried in his arms, which were wrapped around his knees. Without a second thought, Seto knelt in front of the tricolor duelist and lifted his head gently.
Yugi's sobs stopped suddenly in surprise.
`Set- no, Kaiba. Ugg…this is so hard, I don't know how long it'll be before I mess up.'
Yugi's eyes lifted to meet his rival's and Seto saw so much pain there, he couldn't help himself. He grabbed Yugi's shoulders and pulled him into a tight hug. Yugi was first surprised, but that surprise quickly turned to pain as Yugi's ribs were still healing.
Seto let go at Yugi's small sound of pain, suddenly remembering that Yugi just got out of the hospital and was still recovering.
“Seto?”
The CEO's heart skipped a beat. Did Yugi just call him Seto? Could this mean…
Yugi gasped in total horror. What had he done? He had let the name slip, and he was sure that he would be forced to leave now.
Seto gently put his hands on either side of Yugi's face and leaned in to kiss him. At the last second he stopped, looking into his rival's eyes, silently asking for permission. Yugi's hand snaked around to the back of the CEO's neck and he gently pushed forward, closing the space between their lips.
It was heaven. It was hell. It was like everything in existence came rushing down on him. Yugi could feel every little thing. The heated flesh called lips pressed against his own. The warm, wet muscle forced its way inside his mouth, setting his world on fire. Yugi unknowingly moaned into the kiss; the desire was just too hard to ignore.
Yugi's hands gripped Seto's arms, trying to find something to anchor him to reality. And then, the kiss stopped. Yugi felt like crying; he never wanted those feelings to stop. Yugi's breath came out harsh and unsteady; he now realized they stopped because of the need for air. Yugi lifted his eyes to his rival's, the orbs slightly dilated with desire.
“Yugi,” Seto said in his rich, low voice. The young duelist almost shuddered at the sound. Seto rubbed comforting circles where his thumbs lay on Yugi's face, massaging his temples. Yugi subconsciously leaned into the touch, his eyes closing. After a couple of minutes, the touch was gone, and Yugi opened his eyes to find his rival walking through the door of his room. The young CEO left before Yugi could say anything at all.
