Clouds…

Black, stifling…

Swirling, thrashing…

Whispers…

Ice…starving…eyes…

Dripping blood…

Deafening echoes…

Tears…ripples…glass…

Lacing…pain…

Tracing…downward…

Fear…throbbing, pounding…crushing…

Dead darkness broken by stifled screams, thunderclaps amidst the shadows. The creeping shadows, stemming from the Darkness, the Dark, a Dark, Yami…

Broken, battered Yami, sprawled naked on Death's floor…waiting, wishing…lost.

Pale…limp…agony…so much pain…yet not a scratch…bruises…yes, plentiful in fact…but no wound to reflect such tormenting anguish…

"Yuugi! Wake up!" said hikari fluttered his eyes open and stared at the worried boy before blinking in realization.

"R-Ryou?…" the smaller pulled the white blanket to his nose, a trace of bright red streaked across it. "W-what's wrong?"

Ryou sat on the bed and hugged a pillow to his chest; he wasn't, after all, dressed for such a visit. "You were crying…in your sleep…" His cool thumb wiped away a tear silently clung to the other's soft cheek.

Yuugi's eyes widened in surprise, "R-really?" he scrunched his face in thought, trying to remember what he had dreamt. "I can't remember it all…there was black…and I felt so sad and scared, but I didn't know why…it was like-" he gasped and panic dripped from amethyst eyes.

"Yuugi? What's wrong?" Ryou had to lightly shake the other's shoulders to snap him out of his shocked state.

Tears sprang into Yuugi's eyes ad he began to sob. "Y-Yam-Yami! He cried and threw himself at the surprised Ryou. "I-I saw h-him!" The white haired angel tried to shush the other, but Yuugi's sobs did not quiet. "I-I felt it! I felt him! He-he's hurt!" the tricolor boy shook in Ryou's arms, hands fisted in white locks as he tried to cling to something safe. "He was hurt, Ryou!" Small fingers relaxed their grip and Yuugi slumped against the taller, who cooed phrases of comfort.

"Please, Yuugi…it was just a dream, a really bad nightmare." A pale hand gently rubbed circles on the hiccupping younger's back. "It's because you're in a different bed. You feel alone and scared." He pulled the smaller away from him so he could look into his eyes. "Ok?" Yuugi sniffed, nodding in agreement and trying his best to smile a bit of a `thank you'. "Are you going to be alright? Or do you want me to stay with you?" Ryou's voice was very soft and comforting, resembling a kitten's purr as he spoke.

Yuugi blinked his large eyes and smiled sheepishly at the other hikari. "I-I don't want to take you away from Bakura…" As much as he wanted someone to stay with him, Yuugi didn't want to separate the other two just because he had a bit of a nightmare.

Ryou grinned and took the small boy into his arms, laying down he tossed the warm blanket over them both. "I do think Bakura has had enough of me for tonight...Besides, now that he knows I'm awake, I'll never get back to sleep…" Yuugi blushed at his friend's words and snuggled into the slender arms. The smaller had always been one for more physical contact than most, and right now, Ryou's gentle embrace diminished the panic filled bubble inside Yuugi's stomach. "Good-night, Yuugi…sleep well…"

There was a mumbled reply and small `thank you' as Yuugi slipped very quickly into more dreams.

//Ryou!// the irritated dark startled the hikari as consciousness had begun to slip.

/Sh, Kura…Yuugi had a nightmare…/

//Ha, I'd have a nightmare too if all I dreamed about was that Pharaoh's ugly mug.//

Ryou smirked inwardly and decided to send a mental picture of Yami, a bit underdressed. /Now don't you act like you don't like him-/

//I DON'T LIKE HIM!!//

Ryou could feel Bakura's blush through their link. /Uh-huh…then why were *you* dreaming about *him* looking like *that*?/ The light's smile only widened at his other's silence, extreme embarrassment dripping through the still wide open link.

//I-I told you it was a nightmare…// Bakura's voice was quiet, making it very hard for even him to believe his words. //IF YOU TELL *ANYONE* ABOUT THIS, I'LL-//

/Hush, Kura…Just let me stay the rest of the night with Yuugi and I'll never mention it again…/ Bakura sighed in relief and mentally nodded his agreement. /In front of Yami that is…/ Ryou chuckled lightly as his mind began to drift, hearing his yami's grumbled curses as he fell asleep.

His eyes slowly slid open, the effort put into such a simple task boggling his mind. It took many labored movements before he could even sit up, panting in exhaustion as he sat there, chin resting on his chest and eyes blankly staring at his lap. His gaze lifted after a time, too disgusted to look on at his naked form, flaked with dried blood and other fluids he dared not think about whose they were.

His legs felt cramped; he had slept in a fetal position the whole night, trying perhaps to find comfort instinctively. Shifting his weight, he managed to get his feet to hang over the vile bed, but doubted he had the strength to stand. Ever so slowly, he slid off the bed and winced at the cold that stung his feet when they touched the black ground. His thin arms wrapped around the deep brown bedposts and he helped to support himself as his legs shook. Flames shot up his spine as he straightened his back; biting back a whimper, he kept going until he was standing at his full height.

A held breath was released and helped to dull the pain, scarlet eyes glanced at his legs as he felt something cold and sticky slide down them. His nose wrinkled in disgust and he could feel anger boil at the pit of his stomach as he watched the blackened blood mixed with dead semen creep down his leg from his sore entrance. Yami growled low in his throat, he had allowed himself to be dominated, used, broken by Kaiba…no, not by Kaiba, he was only the vessel, a shell through which the true offender hid behind in cowardice.

It had taken all night, but Yami had figured out who was behind it all, who had dared to violate him, who he would take sweet revenge on…sending their mutilated soul to the pits of the Shadow Realm after violently tearing him limb by pathetic limb. A dark grin spread across his thin lips and his eyes flashed with passion he had long kept suppressed. Deadly thoughts toyed with his mind, thoughts taking him to past memories, a time when he cared about nothing but how much blood his opponent shed. Sweet, sweet nectar…soon to be drained from a worthless corpse.

His knees shook weakly as he let go of the bedpost and stood unaided. He would not let *that* happen to him again, Yami had mended his shattered soul, and perhaps he was missing a few pieces, but at least he no longer feared.

"I'm not afraid of You!" his voice was hoarse, but there was strength behind it. "I know who you are-" A hysteric cackle rippled through the air, bouncing around and focusing on Yami.

"Well, bravo Pharaoh…do you want a reward?" This was no longer Kaiba's voice, no, it was *his* voice, his true voice that spoke now…helping to confirm Yami's deduction.

"No…I want only to see you face to face so that I may-"

"So that you may what? Kill me? Ha!" the voice interrupted Yami and mocked him, making the scarlet-eyed youth's flesh crawl with hatred. "Go ahead and try, Pharaoh, but remember…I killed you once before…and I'll do it again…" The hissed threat felt as though it were whispered right into Yami's ear and he twitched, head jerking away from the imaginary hot breath that played with his neck.

Yami clenched his jaw as he fought to keep his composure, "You're wrong…You will do nothing more to me…I will kill you, Malik."

Silence wrapped itself around Yami's thin form, yet the room seemed to grin madly and laugh at his words. "Then by all means, Pharaoh…" the sealed mahogany doors opened ominously, "Come and get me…" The words echoed, growing quieter as time slowly slipped by.

Yami glared at the light blinding him from the doorway and made his way to the madman's chambers.
