Chapter 7 - Idyllic Morning

******************************

"I know not if I know what true love is,

But I know, then, if I love not him,

I know there is none other I can love." - Alfred, Lord Tennyson, The Idylls of the King: Lancelot & Elaine (1.672)

Yami was first to wake up that morning, as usual. The sun hadn't risen yet as he opened his eyes and manoeuvred himself and Yugi into a more comfortable position. He smiled fondly when Yugi murmured his name and sighed, curling into Yami as close as he could get. The Pharaoh gently brushed aside the soft locks of his hikari's hair from his face and rested his cheek on Yugi's forehead, closing his eyes and dozing for a little while longer in contentment.

When the sun finally did begin to rise, Yami untangled himself from Yugi, being careful not to wake the young light up, and slid out of bed, slipping on his boxers and a plain white button down shirt that he left unbuttoned, replacing the Puzzle around his neck once more. He went to the sliding glass doors of their room and slid one open, stepping outside and quietly closing the door behind him.

The world was silent except for the crashing of the waves on the beach and the occasional bird-noises. Yami sat along the wooden deck rail, perched precariously yet with perfect balance, hugging one knee and resting his chin on it while he watched the sun rise, the other leg dangling off the edge carelessly. Had anyone been around to see him, they would not have seen King Yami, Pharaoh of all Egypt. No, they would have seen a young man without a care in the world, enjoying a tropical sunrise on his spring vacation, innocent and unburdened.

It was a rare, rare moment and Yami would savour it as long as it lasted then hold it close in his memories as the precious gift it was.

He glanced into his room and caught a glimpse of his slumbering lover - the other precious gift in his ancient life. The most precious one, in fact. He would gladly give up everything else as long as he was able to stay with Yugi, keep him, and love him.

With that in mind, Yami looked back at the sun and said his ritual prayers to Ra, adding a few of his own that mostly consisted of many a profound thank you.

Then he just sat and continued to watch the sun.

He glanced over as the other set of sliding doors on his side of the cabin, belonging to the room where Ryou and Bakura slept, opened and closed, and the Tombrobber himself stepped outside, stretching out the kinks in his muscles from being tangled up with linens and Ryou all night. The Pharaoh had to smile a little, hearing the faint sounds of another door opening and closing on the other side of the house (where he assumed Marik was rising for the day), and seeing Bakura look up at the sun for a moment then bow respectfully to it.

Who knew the Tombrobber could be so ritualistic and formal? Yami mused. Marik I can believe but Bakura? That will teach me to make assumptions.

He went back to observing the sun as Bakura straightened and finally noticed Yami's presence. He stuck his hands in his short's pockets, casually strolling over to his fellow dark spirit.

"Good morning, Yami." The white haired Ring-spirit greeted him cheerfully. "I see I'm not the only one who continues to observe the old traditions."

Yami smiled and gestured as Marik appeared around the corner, having sensed their waking presences nearby and coming around to join them. "We aren't the only ones, Bakura."

"Sleep well, psychopath?" Bakura inquired, smiling wickedly.

Marik grunted and replied just as affectionately, "Quite, Tombrobber, thanks for asking."

Yami rolled his eyes as they glared at each other for a while then turned to watch the sun in silence.

It was Marik who broke the quite peacefulness eventually.

"We have much to be thankful for, don't we?"

"Yes." Yami agreed. "We three have little in common, but in that we are of an equal mind."

"Three spirits of an ancient past who have been locked in darkness and shadow for several millennia. Three spirits who have been given another chance at life…" Bakura said in quiet consideration.

"And love. We've been given Light once more, and I will never again take it for granted." Marik sighed. "We have existed for so long and to think of eternity is more daunting for us than it is for normal, mortal souls. I can't imagine spending even one moment of it without my hikari's presence ever again."

"Me either." Bakura leaned against the railing.

"Nor I." Yami smiled softly, feeling his hikari's mind stir to wakefulness as the three yamis lounged around in an ultra-rare moment of companionable, comfortable silence and total agreement.

It wasn't long, however, before Yami heard Yugi in his mind through their link.

{Yami?} Came the sleepy inquiry. {Where'd you go?"}

{I'm outside, aibou. Throw on some clothes and come join us.}

{Okay.}

If a carefree Pharaoh had been a sight to see earlier, then seeing Yami, Bakura, and Marik together so early in the morning in various states of comfortable, casual dress and/or undress standing or sitting around bathed in the golden light of the sun was an even more unique picture - and was exactly what Yugi saw when he slid open the door and stepped out.

The young hikari had to stop and stare at them for a moment, a slow smile crossing his features as he took the scene in.

"Hi, guys! What's up? Early morning council session?"

"Nah. Just paying our respects to Ra." Bakura nodded in the direction of the sun.

"Ah. I see." Yugi nodded.

"Hmm…I hear my hikari waking up." Marik grinned. "I suppose I should go see to it he has an appetite for breakfast." He strolled off.

Bakura shook his head. "Ryou's still out like a light." He sighed. "I swear the kid sleeps like the dead. But then…so do I!" He grinned and waved at Yami and Yugi. "What time do you want us to meet downstairs for breakfast, Yami?"

Yami climbed down from his perch gracefully and shrugged. "Eight o'clock?"

"Sounds good." The Tombrobber ducked inside his room and left the royal pair alone.

Yugi closed the distance between them and raised his arms to drape them over Yami's shoulders, his fingers slipping into tri-coloured hair and stared into ruby eyes with a smile. Yami smiled back and encircled his hikari's waist with his arms, rubbing his nose against Yugi's in great affection.

"Morning, aibou." He murmured.

"Morning, my love." Yugi murmured back. He raised himself up a little and pressed his mouth to his darkness' with a happy little sigh. {I missed you when I woke up.}

{Mmm…I'm sorry. Perhaps I should take you inside and make it up to you somehow?} Yami purred seductively, his hands moving to cup Yugi's butt and grip possessively. Yugi groaned into their kiss and wriggled.

{Ah…I could go with that.}

Without further ado, Yami picked him up, letting him wrap his legs around Yami's waist, and carried his lover inside, their kiss never breaking or stopping. Yami strode to the bed and dropped Yugi down on it carefully, stepping back to set aside the Puzzle on the bedside table and started to take off his shirt. He had to stop though when he felt Yugi's hands on his boxers, tugging them down his hips to slip to the floor.

And then those hands were on him, teasing, questing fingertips that caressed his sensitive skin and wrapped around his hard length, stroking slowly. Yami moaned something in his native Egyptian and had to brace himself with his hands on Yugi's shoulders when his knees buckled and threatened to give out as pleasure raced through his system like wild fire. {Oh Ra…hikari! Gods, I love your hands…}

Yugi smiled and released him, hurriedly pulling off his shorts and shirt, then crawling to the middle of the bed and crooking a finger at his darkness, violet eyes gone deep purple with desire. Yami tossed his shirt over his shoulder and returned Yugi's hot look with a burning gaze of ruby eyes gone flaming crimson in an echoing desire and need, crawling onto the bed and stretching out on his back comfortably.

His hikari straddled his waist and leaned down to capture Yami's mouth in a passionate kiss. Yugi made throaty little mewls and purring noises as his yami let his hands run feverishly over Yugi's sides and up and down his back as they kissed, Yami's tongue thrusting into his mouth and duelling Yugi's, stroking and sliding against his until the younger man broke away and began kissing and licking his way down Yami's neck and shoulders. Yami moaned and tunnelled his fingers through Yugi's hair as he moved downwards and hovered over a nipple.

{Hmm…Yami, you taste so good.} The light laved his darkness' nipple in one long, slow lick. {I want more.}

Yami shivered and his spine bowed as he tried to get closer to that hot wet mouth that was offering him so much pleasure. {Yugi…uhn…take more…} He could barely form a coherent thought through the pleasure haze in his mind. Oh how he enjoyed this sensuous side of his hikari - a lot.

He let out a long, low moan of appreciation as Yugi obligingly took the taut nub into his mouth and sucked on it like a gumdrop, alternately flicking his tongue over it and lightly scraping his teeth over it. Yugi gave him a small, smug mental smile as he moved on to the other one, knowing that this was one area in particular on Yami that was ultra-sensitive. Yami let out a chuckle that ended on another moan and he shifted restlessly beneath his eager hikari's ministrations. {Ra! Yugi! Mmm…ah! Yes…}

Yugi descended along Yami's lean, muscular, golden-skinned chest and abdomen, planting noisy, wet kisses as he moved and tracing teasing fingertips all over without ceasing their movement. Yami fought back the urge to squirm and gripped the bed for support against the onslaught of pleasure. He gave up holding back their link and Yugi paused in his teasing as Yami's pleasure swam through his mind and made him a little light-headed. "Oh Gods!" He gasped, dropping his forehead to Yami's stomach and sucking in a few breaths, giggling a bit in a daze of euphoria. "Oh yeah…that's one hell of a rush!"

Yami ran his fingers through Yugi's hair soothingly. "That's what you do to me, love. Only you…always you…"

Yugi raised his head and looked up at his lover with eyes that were slightly glazed over. "No more than what you do to me, my love." He reached for the tube of lube on the bedside table and pressed it into Yami's hand and abruptly turned around, presenting him with his backside. {Use that so we can finish this, Yami. I can't take much more before I explode.} To encourage the Pharaoh, he turned his attention to the hardened length of Yami's erection.

Yami gasped and quickly flipped open the lid, using the lube on his fingers liberally and gently inserting one finger into his light, slowly moving it back and forth to stretch him and smirking in satisfaction as Yugi whimpered and his hips moved involuntarily with the motion of Yami's finger.

It wasn't long before neither could stand any more teasing. Yami removed his fingers and Yugi turned around, settling himself over Yami. Yugi's end of their link was thrown wide open as he sank down onto Yami, impaled so deeply neither could tell where he left off and his lover began.

But then Yami thrust his hips upward and Yugi cried out, his head tossing back as a bolt of ecstasy shot up his spine like lightning then spiked down again to pool like liquid fire in his groin. He began to rock his hips, guided by Yami's hands on his waist where they gripped and kneaded in time with their movements.

{Uhn…ah! Yami! Please…I need…can't…have to…Oh Ra!} Yugi could feel the pressure building in them both and had the unbearable need to do something with his hands, restlessly letting them roam over his lover's chest and over his own body.

Yami watched with heavy-lidded crimson eyes, letting go of his lover's waist and rubbing his palms up and down Yugi's thighs. {Yugi…Gods, hikari, you're so beautiful in your pleasure. Let yourself go, aibou.} He encouraged in a dark voice, grasping Yugi's weeping length firmly and pumping in contrast to their bodies' movements. Yugi shuddered and cried out again as the pent up ecstasy inside him was released. The Dark One curled his arms around the Light One and held him when he collapsed against Yami's chest and shook with the force of his release. Yami himself soon followed Yugi into blissful oblivion, riding out the waves of both their euphoria still buried deep within his hikari.

After a few minutes of recovery with panting breaths and frantically beating hearts, Yugi raised his head from Yami's chest and grinned down at his soulmate. "Well, now we'll have to shower, huh?"

"Hmm…" Yami raised a hand to comb his fingers through Yugi's hair, the other hand absently stroking the side of Yugi's leg. "Did I mention how beautiful you are, aibou?"

Yugi's smile went soft and he slid upwards a bit so he could lean back down and press his mouth to Yami's firmly. {Yes, I believe you mentioned that earlier, love. But I'm nothing compared to your golden, gorgeous self, my darkness.} He sighed and snuggled into Yami's warmth as the Pharaoh's arms wrapped around him and one hand massaged the back of his neck as they kissed.

{I love you, hikari, my soul.}

{As I love you, my dark one, my Pharaoh.} Yugi broke the kiss and buried his face in the crook of Yami's neck with a content little purring noise. {Let's shower quick, okay? I nearly forgot about Joey.}

{Good Gods, so had I.} Yami nuzzled his light's ear, pressing light, butterfly kisses to it, making Yugi giggle. {What do you suppose is wrong between him and Mai?}

{I don't know, but I want to find out. Cut that out! It tickles!} Yugi pushed himself off his lover and rolled away. Yami made a disappointed sound and got up, too, following Yugi to the bathroom to shower.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After they'd showered, dressed and gone downstairs, Yugi helped Ryou brew enough coffee for them all. The two hikaris passed out steaming mugs to the three yamis and Malik - though Malik and Marik weren't really paying attention as they were busy being lovey-dovey and making out.
The others pretty much ignored them, used to it by now.
Yugi poured another couple of mugs for himself and Joey, adding a good dosage of sugar to Joey's, knowing that's how he liked it, and glanced at Yami as he walked past towards he stairs. "I'm going to wake up Joey and talk to him, Yami."
"Certainly, aibou. One of us will come up and let you know when we're ready to go for breakfast."
"Okay. Thanks." Yugi headed up the stairs and walked towards the room where his best friend was. He knocked on the door, and quietly pushed it open when he got no answer. He went in and closed the door to give them some privacy, setting the mugs down on a little table near the sliding glass doors and opening the curtains to let in some sunlight.
Then he went over to the bed and sat down next to the curled up lump of covers that was Joey.
Laying a hand on the lump, he gently shook it. "Joey. Joey? Hey, buddy, wake up." His friend groaned and mumbled something before yanking the covers up over his head. Yugi smiled, pulled back the covers, and ran his fingers through Joey's blond hair soothingly. "I know. But it's time to wake up, Joey."
Joey sighed, rolling over onto his side to face his friend. He looked up into the amethyst gaze of the young light and saw the infinite compassion and concern there. It made him want to cry again.
"Hey, Yug." He greeted the duelist quietly.
"Hi." He replied. Yugi got up and got Joey's coffee and his own, rejoining Joey on the bed. "Sit up and talk to me, Jo. And have some coffee."
The blonde sat up, drawing his knees up to his chest and accepting the mug carefully. "There's not much to say, really." He took a sip. "Mai and I had a talk last night. We both feel that our relationship isn't going anywhere. Marriage, kids, careers…it just wouldn't work out for us."
Yugi studied him. "You broke up?"
"Yeah."
"But you still love her."
"Yes. And she still loves me. But it isn't the kind that would last, that would keep us together for the rest of our lives." Joey hung his head and gripped his mug tightly.
"Oh, Joey." Yugi sighed and set his cup aside, laying his hands over Joey's. "I'm sorry."
"I'll be alright. As much as I would like to just crawl into a hole and wallow in my misery for a while, I know I can't." He sighed. "I have to tell Serenity now."
"Are you going to move out? Do you need a place to stay?"
"No. But thanks a lot, Yug, for the offer." Joey had to smile slightly. "Mai and I agreed Serenity and I would stay with her for now. We're still close friends and we need each other."
Yugi nodded. "I understand. Do you feel up to coming out for breakfast? Or would you like me to bring you back something?"
Joey shook his head. "No. I'll come. It's probably better if I don't stay here alone to get all depressed."
Yugi smiled. "Well, if you want we can just sit here in the nice quiet for a bit. Yami said one of the others would come get us when it's time to go." He let go of Joey with a final pat and picked up his coffee again, taking a sip. "Besides. We haven't finished our coffee yet."
"Sure." Joey stared out the glass doors. There was a comfortable period of silence as they sat together and drank their coffee.
Eventually a knock on the door broke their solitude and Yugi called, "Come in, Ryou."
The Ring Keeper popped his head around the door. "Is everything okay, guys? Yami sent me up to tell you we're heading off for breakfast." He rolled his eyes but grinned. "Malik's and Marik's stomachs started growling loudly enough that they actually stopped making out and started complaining that they were hungry."
Yugi laughed and Joey smiled.
"Sure, Ryou. We're coming." Yugi looked at his best friend and took his empty mug." I'll take these downstairs and let you get dressed."
"Okay. Hey, Yug?" Joey stopped him before he could disappear out the door.
"Yeah?"
"You're the greatest friend a guy could ever hope to have. Thanks, bud."
Yugi's smile was competition for the sun. "It's what I do." He waved. "You're my best friend, after all. Hurry up, now! I can almost taste the pancakes I'm going to order." Yugi ducked out of the room and shut the door behind himself.
When he got back downstairs, everyone was sitting around waiting. He put the mugs in the sink and joined the group.
Serenity gave him a worried look. "Yugi? Is my brother alright?"
"Not really, Serenity, but he will be. Why don't you go up and see him?" Yugi suggested, giving her a reassuring smile.
She nodded and hurried up the stairs.
Yugi turned his attention on Mai next. He could feel her sadness like a tangible thing and also some fear that made him frown. He walked over to her and squatted down in front of her, placing a hand on her knee. "How are you doing, Mai?"
She looked into his eyes and sighed. "I'll be okay, Yugi."
"You know you're still our friend, Mai, even if you and Joey aren't together anymore, right?"
Her eyes widened in surprise. "How'd you know?" She whispered the question, confirming the source of her worry to Yugi.
"No magic, Mai." Yugi smiled. "Just my brain." He got up, leaned down, and hugged her. She hugged him back fiercely.
"Thank you, Yugi."
When Joey and Serenity came downstairs there was an awkward moment until Joey broke it with a quick-witted comment and one of his grins. Then everyone (except Kaiba) laughed as the tension dissolved and they all got up to go to the hotel for breakfast.
