*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
A young girl walked down the hallway of Domino High as she clenched her books against her chest. Her long jet-black hair was pulled back in a fishtail secured with a clear ponytail holder. Her lavender eyes, which were hidden behind sky blue contacts, shyly scanned her surroundings as she walked cautiously through the corridors. The kids around her just starred at her and whispered to each other. She sunk lower and sped up her walking pace to get to the office quicker, bust she couldn't get the whispering and snickering sounds out of her head...
*~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~*
"Jounouchi, knock it off!" Mai commented as she socked him in the shoulder.
"Ow! What was dat for?!" Jounouchi exclaimed with anger hinted in his voice.
"For being you." Anzu commented with a smile playing at her lips. Yugi, who had been sad the whole month, had to crack a smile at Anzu's statement. It *was* somewhat true. Whenever Jounouchi was being himself a little too much, Mai had a tendency to get annoyed.
"Hey guys, it seems we got little Yugi over here to smile." Ryou said as he looked at Yugi.
"Seriously?! Alright!" Anzu giggled.
"Yeah...sure." Yugi mumbled, still upset obviously.
"Yugi, what's wrong?" Mai asked, concerned.
"Whatever it is you can tell us." Anzu added sincerely.
Yugi took a deep breath before beginning to speak, he couldn't keep it in any longer. "My best friend, who moved away years ago and stopped talking to me last month. Our last telephone conversation was very disturbing. I haven't heard from her since and I'm worried." He explained softly.
"I'm sure your friend is fine, Yugi. You're probably just overreacting." Mai replied gently.
"I'm not too sure about that." Yugi answered unsurely.
The bell rang as the group approached their 1st period class. Anzu took her seat in the front row, a few seats away from Ryou. Jounichi and Yugi sat in the corner next to each other in the back. Honda sat in the middle of the classroom, nowhere *near* his pals. The teacher, Mrs. Peansig, entered the room as the 2nd bell rang loudly.
"Alright everybody, calm down." She commanded sternly. Slowly the class became quiet. "Now, take out your history reports. Who would like to-"
"Excuse me Mrs. Peansig." The principal interrupted. He led a new girl into the room before leaving, the girl handed the teacher a slip of paper and looked around the room with scared eyes. Yugi then went into shock. The next thing anyone could hear was a small *thud* and a small squeak from the back of the room. Everyone turned to see what was going on.
"Where'd Yugi go?" Jounouchi asked rather dumbly.
"Uh Jou..." another student spoke up. "Look down."
Jounouchi looked down and saw Yugi sitting there in a daze.
"Yug, you okay man? What are you doin' on da floor?" he asked when he figured out where he was. Yugi didn't answer.
//I guess that's my cue.// Yami grumbled as he took over Yugi's body. He shook his head and looked up at Jounouchi.
"Yug?"
Yami quickly got up and sat back down in Yugi's seat. "I know her." That's all he said as he tried to concentrate on being his other half. As he sat in the chair, he studied the girl. Her bangs fell into her eyes, covering the black eye she had on the left side. He saw a dark bruise on her neck going down into her shirt. And from what he could see, it looked like there were more bruises concealed underneath her clothes.
"You can take a seat next to the windows over there." Mrs. Peansig instructed. The young girl quickly made her way to her seat and sat down with a graceful slide. "Now like I was saying, who would like to read their report out loud?" Nobody raised their hands, which is pretty typical for this sort of thing. "How about...you, Yugi."
Yami sat in Yugi's chair, sighed for a moment, and took out Yugi's paper before he made his way to the front of the class.
"This is my report." Yami began in a bored voice, holding up his paper. "I hate you all but oh well. There was a pharo-"
"Baka no pharaoh!" Bakura interrupted.
"Tomb raider no baka!" Yami yelled back. After a few Egyptian curses were thrown across the room, Yugi came back to his body. He blinked a few times as he looked around the room perplexed. Everybody looked at him like he had just punched the teacher in the face.
"What happened?" he asked curiously. The teacher was infuriated.
"Stop messing around Yugi or you will find yourself in detention! Now read your report!" Mrs. Peansig scolded.
/What'd you do?!/ Yugi questioned immediately.
//Nothing. Don't worry about it.// Yami replied impassively.
/...Why does Ryou look like he's goin to rip my head off?/
//Probably because he will. But don't worry, I'll protect you.//
/Oh...*that's* reassuring./ Yugi replied sarcastically.
//I know. Isn't it?// Yami retorted smugly.
The teacher coughed a few times before going berserk. She picked up an eraser and hurled it at Yugi's head making the side of his hair pure white. It was then that he realized that he was in *deep* trouble.
"Motou! Detention!" Mrs. Peansig shouted angrily. Yugi went back to his desk and sat low in his chair, hiding his face behind his binder.
*~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~*
It was lunchtime, so Yugi and his pals sat together at a long brown, rectangular table in the cafe.
"So Yug, ya think ya know who dat new girl was? What do ya know 'bout 'er?" Jounouchi persisted, wanting to know. Yugi didn't answer. Partially because he was starting to get annoyed with the taller boy (well, actually Yami was..), but also because he was too busy wondering about the bruises on the new student. How'd they get there? Who did something to help her? Those were only some of the questions that ran though his head.
//Aibou, you need to relax.//
/I know but.. it's just so hard, I know I know that girl, but it's just not coming to me. I'm also worried about her.../
"Yugi?" Jounouchi questioned. No response. "Yo! Earth to Yugi!?" he questioned again, waving his hand in front of his friend's face. Still no answer from Yugi. In frustration, Jounouchi slammed his fist down on the table. His fist hit the edge of his bowl of soup and sent it flying across the room. It landed on a blonde haired girl who was minding her own business. Yugi snapped out of his trance just in time to see the scene unfold. The whole table covered their mouths immediately to prevent from laughing aloud.
"You imbecile. That girl will *so* kick your butt after school." Mai commented with a small giggle. Jounouchi just made a face at her in return.
"C'mon Yugi, tell us who the girl is." Honda urged, now wanting to know about the mysterious girl that was in 3 of his classes.
Yugi sighed. "Why do you want to know so bad?"
"Because she's hot!" Jounichi blurted.
"No arguments there." Honda agreed wrapping his arm around Yugi's shoulders, "C'mon man, tell us!"
//Just do it Yugi. Besides, I'm kind of curious myself.// Yami added.
Yugi shook his head with a smile. "Her name is Naito Sora, she was one of my best friends. We were hanging out one day when she told me she was moving. Obviously I didn't want her to go, but she had to leave. Well, the next day I went to see her and she was gone." He explained.
~~~~~~
Naito Sora sat all by herself at the table as she stabbed her food with her fork. She hated moving. It was so hard on her. Especially when she was little. She had to leave her only friend in the world. He had always stood up for her even if he ended up taking the heat for her. Whenever his pals made plans, he would invite her even if his friends did not want her to come along. Slowly she opened her assignment notebook and right there was a picture of her and a young boy with black hair and blonde front highlights. A sigh came from her mouth as she just gazed at the picture...
~Flashback Mode~
"Give it back!!!!!" Naito screamed as she ran after a boy. The boy just laughed as he ran out the front door and jumped down the steps followed by Naito. "Come on! Give it back!" she whined.
"Come on! Give it back!" the boy imitated. Naito had caught up to him and reached for the locket the boy was carrying, but he jerked to a stop and she tumbled to the cement. She scraped her knees badly and twisted her ankle when she fell. The boy stood there and laughed at her.
"Teki!" a voice shouted angrily. Teki turned around to see his little sister's friend behind him. "Give it back!"
"Why should I?" he countered, unfazed.
"Because she's your sister! You should be helping her!"
"She's a pathetic brat."
That made the kid mad. He lunged at Naito's brother and knocked him down.
"You little freak!" Teki scowled.
"Yeah? Well somebody has to fill those shoes." The boy answered as he snatched the locket from Naito's brother's hand and got up. He walked over to Naito and helped her up to her feet as he led her back into the house.
~End Flashback~
Naito looked up as she heard a clunk noise. She saw soup flying through the air and watched it until it landed on a young blonde-haired female. The girl screeched as she sat there in shock, the soup dripping down her head. 'That must suck.' Naito thought with a small smile on her face. Her eyes scanned the table next to that blonde girl and saw a group of people that looked familiar. One of them was that kid who got a detention. As she looked at him, another memory flooded her mind.
~Flashback Mode again~
Naito stood outside her best friend's door, waiting for him to answer it. She was upset. Tomorrow she had move and she would never see her friend again. She tried desperately to convince her parents to let her stay with her aunt and uncle but they refused.
A few minutes later, a boy answered the door.
"Nait!" he greeted happily.
"Hey." Naito answered sadly.
"What's wrong?" asked the boy, worry etched on his face.
"Um...I just came over to tell you that...I'm moving."
"What? No! You can't!"
"I'm sorry. I have to." There was silence between the two friends. "Goodbye, Yugi." Naito whispered before she ran down his steps and ran to her house crying. She didn't look back. She couldn't. It'd be too painful for her to see the look of pain on Yugi's face. She wanted to run back to him, but she knew if she did, she'd never leave. With all her willpower, she forced herself to run until she reached her house. Immediately, she ran to her room and cried.
~A Month Later~
Naito walked to the abandoned barn about 3 miles from her backyard. She went inside, lay down on a stack of hay, and cried her eyes out. She missed Yugi with all her heart and it was killing her that she couldn't see her only friend.
As she was in there, a storm had started up. It got worse as each minute passed and she was getting more and more scared. She didn't realize that the longer she stayed in there, the more danger she was in. A crackle of lightning flashed past the broken window, hitting the corner of the barn, lighting it on fire. The fire grew quickly as the wind blew it further onto the barn. When Naito realized what was happening, it was too late to get out. She began to scream at the top of her lungs for help, but it no use...at least she thought.
She suddenly heard the sound of wood breaking and looked towards the door. She saw what looked like a cat human in shrine priestess clothing. The 'thing' had black hair with blue and silver streaks through it down to her shoulder blades with feline looking ears on of her head, though it also had human ears although they were covered by hair. It wore the traditional white top and red pants (Takato: You should know what a shrine priestess' clothing looks like by now, if not, go to google -images- and search Inuyasha or Sailor moon).
"Tasukete kure!" Naito screamed.
The cat woman hurried to her, but leaped back as a beam from above fell and nearly crushed her. She jumped over it and took Naito's hand before urging her to follow, the cat woman noticed that the frightened Naito couldn't climb over the beam safely so she picked her up and ran/lept out. The creature then took her to a small cabin in a small prairie. Right away, the graceful 'cat' brought her some blankets and wrapped them around her, the cat woman's crimson colored eyes examined her carefully.
"Arigato gazimas." Naito said, barely audible.
"You're welcome." The cat-like female answered with a small smile.
"Um...who are you?" Naito asked cautiously.
The female smiled wider at her timidity, "I'm Kage Etowa-ru, what about you?"
"I'm...Naito Sora." The scared girl answered.
"Nice to meet you." Kage said softly as she went about making some food. Naito relaxed a little as she watched Kage's tail swing back and forth, she also realized that Kage looked more human than she did when she had first seen her...
~End Flashback~
Naito dropped her fork as it finally dawned on her. Yugi! That boy was her friend, Yugi! She got up quickly and grabbed her books as she began to rush out of the cafeteria, in the process she bumped into the wrong person, Doragon, the most horrifying bully in the school. He didn't care if you were male or female, he'd beat you senseless. His black eyes glared down at her with pure anger and hatred.
"Gomen nasai." She said immediately.
"You're sorry huh? Well maybe you should have thought of that before you walked into me." Doragon growled. He grabbed her by her shirt collar and slammed her against the wall. She screamed when her back hit the wall. That caught the attention of everybody in the room. Yugi's eyes widened when he saw who Doragon had in his grasp this time. He got up and headed towards the group of people followed by Honda and Jounouchi.
"The thing is, how are you gonna pay me back? Hmm?" Doragon drawled with an evil grin.
"Put her down Doragon!" a stern male voice commanded. Doragon turned and saw Yugi, Jounouchi, and Honda behind him.
"Why? What are you gonna go, call the teacher?" Doragon replied, teasing the 3 males.
"No. We'll just-"
POW! Slowly Doragon looked back at his victim. The side of his face stung sharply as he glared murderously at the girl.
"You little bitch!" he growled as he slammed her against the wall again. Naito screamed as her head slammed hard against the smooth surface behind her.
"I said put her down!" Jounouchi shouted as he grabbed Doragon by the shoulder and punched him in the stomach then kneed him in the face. Doragon let go of Naito because of the pain he received. Naito slid to the floor with a throbbing pain in her head, her eyes clenched shut. Yugi knelt down in front of the injured girl and placed his arm around her waist to help her up. He led her to their table and pulled out a chair for her. She sat down as a soft tear traveled down her cheek.
Yugi sighed lightly, "Are you alright...?"
Naito nodded slightly, "I will be as soon as the pain in my head goes away..."
"Well, we could bring you to the nurse." replied Anzu walking up to the group of 4 with Mai, "It's be best if she checked you out. She could also probably give you some medicine"
Naito sighed, "I guess that'd be alright."
"Would you like me to come with you?" asked Yugi.
"If you want to."
Yugi smiled a little, "Ok then."
*~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
"Well, all you have is a big sore bump. It should go away within a few days." The school nurse said as she finished checking Naito's head injury. Naito just watched the nurse walk to a cabinet and take out a small bottle. She opened it and poured 2 small white tablets into her hand. "Take these." She said with boredom, reciting the same line she usually said about 5 times a day. Naito popped the pills into her mouth and washed them down with water. "Now get back to class, both of you."
Yugi opened the door so Naito could leave first, taking a slip of paper from the nurse, before he followed her out. "You sure you're feeling okay? You took a pretty bad slam from him." He asked concerned.
"I'm fine." Naito replied, a tiny bit emotionless.
"Alright. Well...where are you going next?" he continued curiously.
"Uh..." Naito looked at her schedule. "History in 413."
"Ah. Mr. Bruhsk. Be sure to pay attention in that class."
"Thanks for the tip."
"No problem. I'll see ya later." Yugi called as he jogged up the steps. Naito slowly followed his footsteps to the 2nd floor and went walking down the hallway looking at the room numbers. I can't wait until school is over!
*~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
The bell rang, signaling the end of class for the students of Domino High. Naito came out slowly after Yugi and co. and sighed. Yugi turned to her, "How are you getting home?"
"I'm getting a ride home with my 'sister'."
Yugi nodded, "Who's your sister, and where do you live?"
"Well, she's not *really* my sister, she sort of just adopted me. Her name is Kage, and we both live in the new Shrine."
Yugi and Anzu gasped slightly as the others just stared, "The new shrine..?" asked Yugi, who had no knowledge of there even being shrine in Domino.
"That's so cool! I mean, it's probably a lot of work, but that's really cool!" said Anzu excitedly.
Naito shrugged as she smiled softly and turned along with the others. As they walked, they noticed it got a little quiet and people were moving away from someone. There stood in the middle of the crowd, Kage, who was slightly confused about everyone's behavior and just raised an eyebrow and looked at Naito and smiled.
"Hi Kage!" Naito called as she walked up to the confused cat woman calmly along with the Yugi gang.
At the moment Kage was wearing black finger-less gloves, A tight black long-sleeved turtleneck, black baggy pants and a black trench coat (kinda like Yami Bakura's in the manga *way* later on into the series... It's a mix of Seto's blue one and white one). Her eyes were also a dark blue, she wore a band on her head to hide her cat ears, and her tail was tightly wrapped around her wait so no one noticed it. To everyone, she seemed like a complete human, other than the fact that she had black streaks on the side of her cheeks, but otherwise, she seemed human.
"Hi Naito... uhm... why is everyone staring at me and backing away...? Is it my clothes...?" asked Kage who was starting to become very self-conscious.
Naito laughed lightly, "It's just your strong person, you come on a bit too serious at times. Plus you look like you're gonna hurt someone because of the stripes."
"Gomen."
"Relax. Don't worry about it! Kage, these are my new friends; Yugi, Anzu, Ryou, Jounouchi, Mai, and Honda."
Kage bowed slightly, "It's nice to meet you all."
"Hey Kage?" asked Naito.
"Hm?"
"Do you mind if the others come and visit our shrine for a little while? When I told them that's where I lived, they wanted to see it."
Kage smiled a little, "Of course they can come for a little while, I don't mind."
Anzu blinked, "You own the shrine?"
Kage nodded slightly, "I co-own it, the master isn't in town right now because of business." Everyone nodded. "Shall we go?"
Naito quickly jogged for Kage's black jaguar. "Some people will have to sit on laps." She shouted to the group behind her.
"I call Mai on mine!" Jounouchi called immediately. Mai looked at him with a raised eyebrow which caused him to laugh.
"Well the back can fit 3 people. Since there are 3 girls, all 3 get to sit on someone's lap. The leftover guy can sit in the front with me." Kage explained casually. The group nodded as people started piling into the car. Yugi got in first, with Anzu on his lap. Next was Ryou with Mai on his lap. Honda and Jounouchi stood outside the door along with Naito.
"Who is going in?" Naito questioned, waiting. Honda looked at Jounouchi.
"We don't have all day." Kage called from inside the automobile. Honda rolled his eyes before getting in. Naito shut the trunk and sat on Honda's lap as Jounouchi got in the front seat next to Kage. Kage started up the car and drove off for the shrine.
~At the Shrine~
Everyone sat down on the floor in traditional Japanese style.
"I'm going to go make some tea and change so I'll be back soon." said Kage, leaving the room.
Everyone turned to Naito, Yugi was the first to speak, "So, how did you get those bruises...?"
Naito thought for an excuse quickly, "I...um... got into a fight and Kage ended up having to help me out of it."
Yugi didn't think she was telling the truth but he didn't question it.
"Where's your family..?" asked Anzu, concerned.
"Well, since I was having trouble in the last place I lived, I moved in with Kage a while ago and that's how it's been."
Everyone nodded, they had all begun to feel she was hiding something now.
Just at that moment Kage walked in to break the tension, the teen cat woman was in her priestess clothing, but her eyes, hair, and tail stayed as the were. And yet, no one noticed she wasn't human. Now that she didn't have her gloves or turtleneck on, they just barely noticed the thin black streaks/claw marks on her hands and neck. Kage went over and set down the tray that had the tea cups and teakettle. She then served them each a cup, "So... I see you've already had a loss for conversation while I was away."
Naito sighed lightly, "Yeah...my fault."
"Like always." Kage countered. Naito looked at her with a smirk on her face.
"Hey, I have a question..." started Mai, "How old are you?" she asked while taking her tea.
"I'm 16." replied Kage.
Everyone, except Naito who just kept drinking her tea, stopped and looked at the priestess, "Are you serious? You look older than that... Like.. at least 22." Mai answered in shock.
"That's because I matured a lot faster than normal," Kage shrugged, "I don't know why."
They all nodded, but then a new question surfaced, "How do ya live all on yer own den? Don't ya have to be 18 or somethin' to move out?" questioned Jounouchi.
Kage replied quickly, "I was abandoned and taken into a shrine, so I later on found Naito and we both came here after that."
Everyone nodded as they concentrated on their tea.
Naito adjusted her shirt collar and cleared her throat. "Um...I'll be right back." She excused herself. She got up and quickly exited the room and went down the hallway to the staircase. Naito quickly jumped down the steps 3 at a time and jogged up to a door. Opening it, she went inside and locked it closed behind her. Her room was rather plain, but had pictures of her and Yugi on her desk, from when they were very little. Her room was dark gray in color, with a wooden floor. Her bed was in the corner just under the window. Next to her bed was a small table with her boom box on it and a picture of her and Yugi hugging each other at his birthday party, the year she moved away. On the opposite side of her bed, against the wall was a TV with her bookcase on one side of it. Naito walked over to her bed and sat down on it, starring at the picture of her and Yugi at his party. A few moments later, Naito was disturbed by a knock on her door.
"Nait?" Kage's voice said through the door. "Naito, are you alive in there?"
"Yeah. I'm alive and kicking."
~~~A Few Minutes Before~~~
"Excuse me..." Kage said as she left the room after her 'sister'.
"Okay...does anybody else think that was weird?" Anzu curiously asked.
"Why'd she leave so suddenly?" Jounouchi questioned.
"How are we supposed to know that?" Mai countered as she looked at Jounouchi with a slightly annoyed look. Jounouchi shrugged. "Numb skull." She grumbled. Anzu smirked, trying to hold in her laughter at Jounouchi's face.
"Down boy." She said softly with a wide smile.
"Ya know Mai, you can be a real-"
" Jounouchi!" Anzu hissed. Jounouchi glared at her, then pouted. Mai snickered at Jounouchi's predicament and went back to her tea, ignoring everyone.
~*~Back to Naito and Kage~*~
Kage sighed lightly, "May I come in...?"
Naito sighed, "I guess."
Kage opened the door silently and closed it lightly behind her, looking at Naito, who was now on her bed. Kage then went over and sat traditionally on the floor in from of Naito, "What's wrong NaiNai-chan..? Why'd you leave so suddenly...?" asked Kage, concerned.
"I got uncomfortable ok?"
Kage looked at her sadly, Kage then closed her eyes and took the band off of her head, her cat ears stretching slightly, and then they went low showing her sadness.
Naito sighed, "I guess that doesn't work does it? Alright, it's because of Yugi asking about... my injuries."
Kage nodded, "Your scars..." she got up and sat next to Naito and started 'petting' her head slowly, trying to comfort her, "Yes, I see why you left. But what of Yugi..? He seems familiar somehow..."
Naito nodded, "He was my friend that I have a couple of pictures of."
Kage nodded, shifting her eyes to the floor, resting her hands in her lap, "Is it nice to be around him again?"
Naito looked to the floor as well, "Yes, but it feels weird..."
Kage looked back to Naito, "How?"
"He just seems different from last time, like he's more sure of himself. He seems to be stronger than before because of his friends, yet, there's also something.. dark about him that has also helped him become stronger. I also feel the same dark-like aura from Ryou."
Kage shifted her eyes to the side, "I feel the same aura, even though they're both boys of innocent origin, it seems they have a darker side to them... I think it could have something with those items..."
Naito looked towards Kage, "You mean the sennen puzzle? But Yugi's grandfather would never give him anything that would hurt him... I remember when he was working on it..."
"Oh?"
"Yeah, he had been working on that for 3 years and he had very little success, so I guess he finally finished it a while back. But he told me it was like completing a part of himself. A great mystery to be solved, it ws as if it were telling him to compete it..."
Kage looks towards the ceiling, "I see. I want to look into Ryou's soul, but I don't think of it as wise."
Naito quirked an eyebrow, "Why?"
"I fear I may run into a little bit of trouble because of the dark presence within him. But for now, I think we should be getting back, we'll find out sooner or later right?"
Naito nodded and got up while Kage but her headband back on. They both then went upstairs.
~*~When the Yugi gang leaves the shrine~*~
Anzu smiled, "That was really nice of Kage and Naito to let us go by their shrine for a little while."
Jounouchi beamed, "Yea, It was a really cool experience, since I'd never really been in a shrine before."
Kage ran out after them, "Ryou!!!"
Everyone stopped and looked in Kage's direction and waited until she reached them,
"Ryou, can I speak with you back at the shrine privately?" Ryou blinked,
"Sure I suppose... but why?"
Kage smiled, "I just want to speak with you privately, I almost forgot."
Ryou nodded and turned to the others, "You guys can go without me."
With that Ryou turned and followed Kage back to the shrine, leaving the others behind.
//What was that all about?// asked Yami.
/I don't know.. I just don't know./
~*~To Ryou and Kage at the shrine~*~
Ryou stood at on half of the middle of the large sparring/training room, Kage on the other. He looked around at the beautiful color of the wooden floor and ceilings, the walls holding a couple of feudal Japan weapons, all the way through current time weapons (swords, hiraikotsu, ninja stuff, y'know, no gun and stuff, just a lot of sharp stuff.. fun.) and marveled.
"I didn't bring you here to marvel..." sighed Kage sadly.
Ryou looked to her, "So then, why'd you bring me here?"
"I can sense an evil aura coming from you and Yugi, I'm just concerned about why two pure people can have such a dark side to them."
Ryou sighed lightly, "Do you promise not to tell anyone, not even Naito..?"
Kage nodded.
"Alright then, I deals with my sennen ring."
"A ring..?" Ryou took out the item from under his uniform. Kage looked at it and took a step back, *So I was right..* Ryou looked at her again, "This ring holds an ancient Egyptian spirit, a tomb robber."
Kage nodded, "Do you think it would be alright..." Kage started walking towards Ryou, "if I looked into your soul...?"
Ryou began to step back, "I don't think my yami would like that, and besides, why do you want to..?"
Kage kept advancing, "We'll see about your yami, and I am curious as to see how this has affected you." The feline woman started to show her real power a she pinned Ryou against the wall securely, she then rubbed her eyes taking the contacts out, and looked towards Ryou once more.
Ryou gasped, "You have.. crimson eyes..." but then Ryou felt himself slip into a daze, like his body had been taken over, yet he was still in control. He couldn't move his gave from her intense glare as she looked into his soul. The ring began to glow lightly as it reacted to her presence. She blinked feeling the effects being reversed onto herself and let Ryou go before it could go any further. Ryou fell to the ground, the ring glowing. The next this she knew she was on the ground being pinned by what looked like Ryou, but she knew it was his darker half.
"How dare you touch my aibou like that and intrude on our memories."
"How could you even think of hurting your lighter half!?"
Bakura stopped, snarling, "I stopped hurting my aibou a while ago, why do you care anyway!?"
"Because... he's to innocent to deserve such a thing. What is your name."
"Why do care onna?"
"I don't feel like calling you tomb robber, that's why. I have a slight respect for you since you repelled my powers."
Bakura smirked slightly, so this neko felt a slight a respect and understanding for him? "I am known as Bakura, and what might you neko-ness' name be?"
Kage huffed lightly, aggravated he looked into her soul as well, but she thought of what to tell him and decided to give him her real name, Kage shifter her gaze to the side,
"Yuki.... Yuki 'Dosei' Etowa-ru..."
Bakura blinked, not understanding why she had given her real full name to him, but her name was also confusing,
"Snow 'Saturn' Star?" Kage/Yuki nodded. "It's... an interesting name..."
Kage laughed lightly, "Eh. Um.. could you.. *please* get off of me...?"
Bakura blinked and got up quickly, moving to the side embarrassed and annoyed with himself, he got transfixed by her freaky eyes again (which was why he hadn't come out right away, because he was just as surprised as Ryou).
Kage got up annoyed with herself as well, "I suppose it's time you should leave, it's getting late."
Bakura nodded and left, "Ja ne... Dosei..." Kage smiled slightly, having been looked at as more than just a neko or shadow for once, but as the person she actually was...

//I know. Isn't it?// Yami retorted smugly.
//Aibou, you need to relax.//
~~~~~~
Naito Sora sat all by herself at the table as she stabbed her food with her fork. She hated moving. It was so hard on her. Especially when she was little. She had to leave her only friend in the world. He had always stood up for her even if he ended up taking the heat for her. Whenever his pals made plans, he would invite her even if his friends did not want her to come along. Slowly she opened her assignment notebook and right there was a picture of her and a young boy with black hair and blonde front highlights. A sigh came from her mouth as she just gazed at the picture...
~Flashback Mode~
"Give it back!!!!!" Naito screamed as she ran after a boy. The boy just laughed as he ran out the front door and jumped down the steps followed by Naito. "Come on! Give it back!" she whined.
"Come on! Give it back!" the boy imitated. Naito had caught up to him and reached for the locket the boy was carrying, but he jerked to a stop and she tumbled to the cement. She scraped her knees badly and twisted her ankle when she fell. The boy stood there and laughed at her.
"Teki!" a voice shouted angrily. Teki turned around to see his little sister's friend behind him. "Give it back!"
"Why should I?" he countered, unfazed.
"Because she's your sister! You should be helping her!"
"She's a pathetic brat."
That made the kid mad. He lunged at Naito's brother and knocked him down.
"You little freak!" Teki scowled.
"Yeah? Well somebody has to fill those shoes." The boy answered as he snatched the locket from Naito's brother's hand and got up. He walked over to Naito and helped her up to her feet as he led her back into the house.
~End Flashback~
Naito looked up as she heard a clunk noise. She saw soup flying through the air and watched it until it landed on a young blonde-haired female. The girl screeched as she sat there in shock, the soup dripping down her head. 'That must suck.' Naito thought with a small smile on her face. Her eyes scanned the table next to that blonde girl and saw a group of people that looked familiar. One of them was that kid who got a detention. As she looked at him, another memory flooded her mind.
~Flashback Mode again~
Naito stood outside her best friend's door, waiting for him to answer it. She was upset. Tomorrow she had move and she would never see her friend again. She tried desperately to convince her parents to let her stay with her aunt and uncle but they refused.
A few minutes later, a boy answered the door.
"Nait!" he greeted happily.
"Hey." Naito answered sadly.
"What's wrong?" asked the boy, worry etched on his face.
"Um...I just came over to tell you that...I'm moving."
"What? No! You can't!"
"I'm sorry. I have to." There was silence between the two friends. "Goodbye, Yugi." Naito whispered before she ran down his steps and ran to her house crying. She didn't look back. She couldn't. It'd be too painful for her to see the look of pain on Yugi's face. She wanted to run back to him, but she knew if she did, she'd never leave. With all her willpower, she forced herself to run until she reached her house. Immediately, she ran to her room and cried.
~A Month Later~
Naito walked to the abandoned barn about 3 miles from her backyard. She went inside, lay down on a stack of hay, and cried her eyes out. She missed Yugi with all her heart and it was killing her that she couldn't see her only friend.
As she was in there, a storm had started up. It got worse as each minute passed and she was getting more and more scared. She didn't realize that the longer she stayed in there, the more danger she was in. A crackle of lightning flashed past the broken window, hitting the corner of the barn, lighting it on fire. The fire grew quickly as the wind blew it further onto the barn. When Naito realized what was happening, it was too late to get out. She began to scream at the top of her lungs for help, but it no use...at least she thought.
She suddenly heard the sound of wood breaking and looked towards the door. She saw what looked like a cat human in shrine priestess clothing. The 'thing' had black hair with blue and silver streaks through it down to her shoulder blades with feline looking ears on of her head, though it also had human ears although they were covered by hair. It wore the traditional white top and red pants (Takato: You should know what a shrine priestess' clothing looks like by now, if not, go to google -images- and search Inuyasha or Sailor moon).
"Tasukete kure!" Naito screamed.
The cat woman hurried to her, but leaped back as a beam from above fell and nearly crushed her. She jumped over it and took Naito's hand before urging her to follow, the cat woman noticed that the frightened Naito couldn't climb over the beam safely so she picked her up and ran/lept out. The creature then took her to a small cabin in a small prairie. Right away, the graceful 'cat' brought her some blankets and wrapped them around her, the cat woman's crimson colored eyes examined her carefully.
"Arigato gazimas." Naito said, barely audible.
"You're welcome." The cat-like female answered with a small smile.
"Um...who are you?" Naito asked cautiously.
The female smiled wider at her timidity, "I'm Kage Etowa-ru, what about you?"
"I'm...Naito Sora." The scared girl answered.
"Nice to meet you." Kage said softly as she went about making some food. Naito relaxed a little as she watched Kage's tail swing back and forth, she also realized that Kage looked more human than she did when she had first seen her...
~End Flashback~
Naito dropped her fork as it finally dawned on her. Yugi! That boy was her friend, Yugi! She got up quickly and grabbed her books as she began to rush out of the cafeteria, in the process she bumped into the wrong person, Doragon, the most horrifying bully in the school. He didn't care if you were male or female, he'd beat you senseless. His black eyes glared down at her with pure anger and hatred.
"Gomen nasai." She said immediately.
"You're sorry huh? Well maybe you should have thought of that before you walked into me." Doragon growled. He grabbed her by her shirt collar and slammed her against the wall. She screamed when her back hit the wall. That caught the attention of everybody in the room. Yugi's eyes widened when he saw who Doragon had in his grasp this time. He got up and headed towards the group of people followed by Honda and Jounouchi.
"The thing is, how are you gonna pay me back? Hmm?" Doragon drawled with an evil grin.
"Put her down Doragon!" a stern male voice commanded. Doragon turned and saw Yugi, Jounouchi, and Honda behind him.
"Why? What are you gonna go, call the teacher?" Doragon replied, teasing the 3 males.
"No. We'll just-"
POW! Slowly Doragon looked back at his victim. The side of his face stung sharply as he glared murderously at the girl.
"You little bitch!" he growled as he slammed her against the wall again. Naito screamed as her head slammed hard against the smooth surface behind her.
"I said put her down!" Jounouchi shouted as he grabbed Doragon by the shoulder and punched him in the stomach then kneed him in the face. Doragon let go of Naito because of the pain he received. Naito slid to the floor with a throbbing pain in her head, her eyes clenched shut. Yugi knelt down in front of the injured girl and placed his arm around her waist to help her up. He led her to their table and pulled out a chair for her. She sat down as a soft tear traveled down her cheek.
Yugi sighed lightly, "Are you alright...?"
Naito nodded slightly, "I will be as soon as the pain in my head goes away..."
"Well, we could bring you to the nurse." replied Anzu walking up to the group of 4 with Mai, "It's be best if she checked you out. She could also probably give you some medicine"
Naito sighed, "I guess that'd be alright."
"Would you like me to come with you?" asked Yugi.
"If you want to."
Yugi smiled a little, "Ok then."
*~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
"Well, all you have is a big sore bump. It should go away within a few days." The school nurse said as she finished checking Naito's head injury. Naito just watched the nurse walk to a cabinet and take out a small bottle. She opened it and poured 2 small white tablets into her hand. "Take these." She said with boredom, reciting the same line she usually said about 5 times a day. Naito popped the pills into her mouth and washed them down with water. "Now get back to class, both of you."
Yugi opened the door so Naito could leave first, taking a slip of paper from the nurse, before he followed her out. "You sure you're feeling okay? You took a pretty bad slam from him." He asked concerned.
"I'm fine." Naito replied, a tiny bit emotionless.
"Alright. Well...where are you going next?" he continued curiously.
"Uh..." Naito looked at her schedule. "History in 413."
"Ah. Mr. Bruhsk. Be sure to pay attention in that class."
"Thanks for the tip."
"No problem. I'll see ya later." Yugi called as he jogged up the steps. Naito slowly followed his footsteps to the 2nd floor and went walking down the hallway looking at the room numbers. I can't wait until school is over!
*~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
The bell rang, signaling the end of class for the students of Domino High. Naito came out slowly after Yugi and co. and sighed. Yugi turned to her, "How are you getting home?"
"I'm getting a ride home with my 'sister'."
Yugi nodded, "Who's your sister, and where do you live?"
"Well, she's not *really* my sister, she sort of just adopted me. Her name is Kage, and we both live in the new Shrine."
Yugi and Anzu gasped slightly as the others just stared, "The new shrine..?" asked Yugi, who had no knowledge of there even being shrine in Domino.
"That's so cool! I mean, it's probably a lot of work, but that's really cool!" said Anzu excitedly.
Naito shrugged as she smiled softly and turned along with the others. As they walked, they noticed it got a little quiet and people were moving away from someone. There stood in the middle of the crowd, Kage, who was slightly confused about everyone's behavior and just raised an eyebrow and looked at Naito and smiled.
"Hi Kage!" Naito called as she walked up to the confused cat woman calmly along with the Yugi gang.
At the moment Kage was wearing black finger-less gloves, A tight black long-sleeved turtleneck, black baggy pants and a black trench coat (kinda like Yami Bakura's in the manga *way* later on into the series... It's a mix of Seto's blue one and white one). Her eyes were also a dark blue, she wore a band on her head to hide her cat ears, and her tail was tightly wrapped around her wait so no one noticed it. To everyone, she seemed like a complete human, other than the fact that she had black streaks on the side of her cheeks, but otherwise, she seemed human.
"Hi Naito... uhm... why is everyone staring at me and backing away...? Is it my clothes...?" asked Kage who was starting to become very self-conscious.
Naito laughed lightly, "It's just your strong person, you come on a bit too serious at times. Plus you look like you're gonna hurt someone because of the stripes."
"Gomen."
"Relax. Don't worry about it! Kage, these are my new friends; Yugi, Anzu, Ryou, Jounouchi, Mai, and Honda."
Kage bowed slightly, "It's nice to meet you all."
"Hey Kage?" asked Naito.
"Hm?"
"Do you mind if the others come and visit our shrine for a little while? When I told them that's where I lived, they wanted to see it."
Kage smiled a little, "Of course they can come for a little while, I don't mind."
Anzu blinked, "You own the shrine?"
Kage nodded slightly, "I co-own it, the master isn't in town right now because of business." Everyone nodded. "Shall we go?"
Naito quickly jogged for Kage's black jaguar. "Some people will have to sit on laps." She shouted to the group behind her.
"I call Mai on mine!" Jounouchi called immediately. Mai looked at him with a raised eyebrow which caused him to laugh.
"Well the back can fit 3 people. Since there are 3 girls, all 3 get to sit on someone's lap. The leftover guy can sit in the front with me." Kage explained casually. The group nodded as people started piling into the car. Yugi got in first, with Anzu on his lap. Next was Ryou with Mai on his lap. Honda and Jounouchi stood outside the door along with Naito.
"Who is going in?" Naito questioned, waiting. Honda looked at Jounouchi.
"We don't have all day." Kage called from inside the automobile. Honda rolled his eyes before getting in. Naito shut the trunk and sat on Honda's lap as Jounouchi got in the front seat next to Kage. Kage started up the car and drove off for the shrine.
~At the Shrine~
Everyone sat down on the floor in traditional Japanese style.
"I'm going to go make some tea and change so I'll be back soon." said Kage, leaving the room.
Everyone turned to Naito, Yugi was the first to speak, "So, how did you get those bruises...?"
Naito thought for an excuse quickly, "I...um... got into a fight and Kage ended up having to help me out of it."
Yugi didn't think she was telling the truth but he didn't question it.
"Where's your family..?" asked Anzu, concerned.
"Well, since I was having trouble in the last place I lived, I moved in with Kage a while ago and that's how it's been."
Everyone nodded, they had all begun to feel she was hiding something now.
Just at that moment Kage walked in to break the tension, the teen cat woman was in her priestess clothing, but her eyes, hair, and tail stayed as the were. And yet, no one noticed she wasn't human. Now that she didn't have her gloves or turtleneck on, they just barely noticed the thin black streaks/claw marks on her hands and neck. Kage went over and set down the tray that had the tea cups and teakettle. She then served them each a cup, "So... I see you've already had a loss for conversation while I was away."
Naito sighed lightly, "Yeah...my fault."
"Like always." Kage countered. Naito looked at her with a smirk on her face.
"Hey, I have a question..." started Mai, "How old are you?" she asked while taking her tea.
"I'm 16." replied Kage.
Everyone, except Naito who just kept drinking her tea, stopped and looked at the priestess, "Are you serious? You look older than that... Like.. at least 22." Mai answered in shock.
"That's because I matured a lot faster than normal," Kage shrugged, "I don't know why."
They all nodded, but then a new question surfaced, "How do ya live all on yer own den? Don't ya have to be 18 or somethin' to move out?" questioned Jounouchi.
Kage replied quickly, "I was abandoned and taken into a shrine, so I later on found Naito and we both came here after that."
Everyone nodded as they concentrated on their tea.
Naito adjusted her shirt collar and cleared her throat. "Um...I'll be right back." She excused herself. She got up and quickly exited the room and went down the hallway to the staircase. Naito quickly jumped down the steps 3 at a time and jogged up to a door. Opening it, she went inside and locked it closed behind her. Her room was rather plain, but had pictures of her and Yugi on her desk, from when they were very little. Her room was dark gray in color, with a wooden floor. Her bed was in the corner just under the window. Next to her bed was a small table with her boom box on it and a picture of her and Yugi hugging each other at his birthday party, the year she moved away. On the opposite side of her bed, against the wall was a TV with her bookcase on one side of it. Naito walked over to her bed and sat down on it, starring at the picture of her and Yugi at his party. A few moments later, Naito was disturbed by a knock on her door.
"Nait?" Kage's voice said through the door. "Naito, are you alive in there?"
"Yeah. I'm alive and kicking."
~~~A Few Minutes Before~~~
"Excuse me..." Kage said as she left the room after her 'sister'.
