Chapter Two: Seine Heilenden Flügel

The sound of a faint whistling awoke Jou with a start. He jolted up on the couch, almost falling out of it in the process. He looked around the living room, blinking frantically. Apparently he had slept deeply. The room was without even a spec of dust and he could smell coffee being made in the air.

Minus the splitting headache he had developed sometime during the night, it was the perfect way to wake up. He was always free of all dirt, though he did vaguely remember taking a shower the night before he didn't remember ever getting out, or changing.

"Morning Jou!" Anzu greeted setting a cup of freshly made coffee in front of the still wide-eyed boy. "Did you sleep alright?"

Jou nodded slightly as he picked up the coffee from the table. He brought it to his nose and took in the strong scent before lifting it up to his lips and taking a sip. It was a little piece of heaven. Not that he actually knew what heaven was like, but it was at least a break from the daily hell known as his life.

"So are you going to tell me why you where such a mess last night?" Anzu asked being extra careful that her words where soft as to not offend or mention the wrong thing. Not exactly expecting the question, Jou choked on his coffee. "I'm so sorry Jou," the brunette girl said with a frown taking the cup of coffee from the blonde's hands and setting it back down on the table.

"It's alright Anzu," he replied putting on one of his infamous grins, "I'm fine."

She frowned and reluctantly nodded. "If you say so," an exasperated sigh escaped her lips. "Do you want to talk about this later?"

"No now's fine," Jou replied with another grin shaking his head side to side. Another reluctant nod came from Anzu. "It was nothing serious really, I was weak from lack of blood and collapsed in the park," he was careful in the way he said his words. He trusted Anzu, but he was sure that he would get yelled at if he where to mention anything about Keith. Most of all, about kissing the crazy American.

He paused for a moment, trying to go over what happened the night before in his head. Without realizing he had done so, his fingers had found their way up to his now burning lips. "Warum...?"(1) He muttered softly. The sound of Keith's chuckle filled his ears. For once he didn't have the urge to cover his ears, or rather, kill the nearest living creature to ride himself of frustrations caused by the sound of the laugh.

`Doki, doki, doki.'

The loud beating sound of his heart soon joined that of the chuckle. "Was ist Ereignis zu mir?(2)" the words, like the last one, was said almost under his breath.

"Jou?" Anzu waved her hand in front of the blonde's face in order to snap him out of the odd trance he was currently in.

Amber eyes blinked a few times, "Sorry, I guess I just got lost inside my own head." The statement was followed by a nervous chuckle causing the brunette girl on the other side of the couch to raise an eyebrow in a return.

"I'm hungry," Jou stated suddenly, standing up from his seat on the couch.

"Well that's nothing new," she replied fighting the urge to slap her forehead.

"Let's go out to breakfast," the blonde practically chirped the words out. He was always over enthusiastic when it came to anything having to deal with food.

"I don't know…"

"Come on! It'll be my treat!" Jou pulled Anzu up from her seat on the couch. She lowered her head in defeat. His stomach had far too much control over him for her to ever even come close to winning this argument. The blonde let go of her arm and headed for the bedroom, "I'll be out in a second. You just figure out where you want to eat. Anywhere that's good is fine with me!"

Anzu sighed even though a small smile was placed upon her lips, "Typical Jounouchi." It was almost impossible for her to understand why the boy could ever want to end his life. He always seemed so cheerful. Then again she knew all too well, no matter how content one person might seem on the outside, you never know what was going on inside their heart. She was the perfect example of that.

Minutes later the aforementioned blonde teen emerged from his bed room wearing his normal attire; a white t-shirt, faded blue jeans and his signature green jacket. He smiled at her, "Decided where we're going to eat yet?"

"How about that burger place?" she suggested with a smile.

"Burgers for breakfast, I like the way you think," Jou grinned widely while heading out the door. He stopped and opened it, another one of his notorious grins perched upon his features, "After you pretty lady." Anzu laughed and rolled her eyes as she exited through the door followed closely by Jou.

They walked for the most part, without saying very much. Jou and silence where not commonly paired together, so Anzu decided not to ruin the once in a lifetime chance of a quiet and peaceful moment with the boy. Though, she didn't hesitate to tease him every time he some how managed to trip over cracks in sidewalk.

Every time he tripped, he would laugh and rub the back of the head commenting on how he `needed to pay more attention to where he was going'. Not that would ever happen. Today more it was less likely the normal. He was still locked up in his thoughts, causing Anzu to wonder exactly what had really happened the night before, but she knew better then to pry. When he was ready, she was sure he'd tell her exactly what had happened.

Anzu pushed the door open to the fast food restaurant, grinning mischievously. "After you pretty lady," she giggled using the exact words Jou had said when they left his house.

He glared a bit then burst out in laughter. "Thank you, honey," he replied attempting to imitate a girls voice while choking on laughing fits. This in turn caused Anzu to burst out laughing too. They sat down at a booth in the corner of the burger place. (3)

The waitress approached them, a large smile on her face. Her hair was a long, a glowing auburn hair that fell in ringlets over her shoulders and she had unnatural sea green eyes that held a tormented feature about them. (4) "May I take your order?" She asked, her voice was deep for a woman sounding very mature, when she herself didn't look a day over sixteen.

Both of them order, Anzu only getting a regular burger with ketchup only and a small diet coke, while Jou order what seemed to be one of everything on the menu. Inwardly the brunette was grateful that he was paying for this instead of herself. The waitress walked away with a some-what unnerved look on her face, muttering something about how she `better get a good tip for this'.

Jou started contently out the window, his arms folded into a makeshift pillow. He was enjoying the time he was spending with Anzu. Her bright and cheerful spirit was a much need pick-me-upper then he had been waiting for longer then he realized. It wasn't very often that he got to spend time alone with her, actually he couldn't recall ever spending more then a few seconds apart from the others. He had never really stopped to think about it before.

He watched the autumn fall from the trees. "They look like they're dancing," he commenting softly. Anzu looked at him in disbelief.

"Yes they do," she smiled even though she was well aware that he probably didn't see it. She was enjoying seeing a side of Jou that no one else had. The Jou that everyone else knew would never say something so insightful, and not such a random time either.

"They're kind of like you once you think about it," Jou stated shifting his head over slightly to look at the girl on the other side of the booth, "they all have such unique brown shades, but at the same time they're all soft and comforting. Those qualities are much like you, Anzu. But most of all, they're like you because when they dance, it's enough to make anyone smile."

Light blue eyes blinked for a second. Anzu giggled slightly, "I didn't know you could be so serious Jou."

"Hey!" the blonde pouted but still turned his head to look out the window. "Even I have my moments."

It wasn't until a large amount of food was placed on the table that Jou even turned his amber eyes away from the falling leaves. He then looked down at the food; drool dribbling down at the side of the mouth. "Please Jou, at least try to be a little less messy then normal about this," Anzu said teasingly, getting a second pout coming from the abovementioned boy.

Of course, Jou paid no heed to her words and dug right into his food. People all around gave him a weird look as waiters and waitresses avoided getting too close to the table. Tiny bits of food flew about from Jou's insane eating habits. Anzu just laughed loudly, making an `oh Jou' remark every now and then but other then that she just peacefully at her own burger.

The absurd display of lack of table manners continued until the blonde caught a flash of an all too familiar red, white, and blue bandana atop dirty blonde hair. Without delay Jou choked on his food, his face turning immediately a light shade of blue.

"Are you okay Jou?" Anzu asked giving him a worried look. He just smacked on his chest and swallowed. The color of his skin started to turn back to it's normal pale-peach.

"Yeah I'm fine," he replied grinning, "but I think I've lost my appetite."

An eyebrow raised, "Well that's a first."

All the muscles in Jou's body tensed when he heard the door to the restaurant open followed by footsteps heading in their direction. "Lassen Sie bitte nicht, daß es ihn ist,"(5) he pleaded to no one in particular.

"Erbärmlich, Sie zu enttäuschen, aber es's mich," (6) Jou groaned, fidgeting in his seat, "what are the odds running into you twice within twenty-four hours, dweeb?"

The blonde teen looked up, though him instantly regretted doing so. Anzu was giving him her `please explain' look. He knew now that he'd have to tell her at least some of the events that happened last night. He replied to her curious expression with `I'll explain later' look. To onlookers the conversation of expressions was rather odd, but made perfect sense in their minds.

"Hello Keith," Anzu greeted though only in a half-cheery voice. She turned her head to look at him, Jou following her actions.

`Doki, doki, doki.' He could feel his heart beating in his head again and was very well aware of the fact that his face was more likely then not now a deep shade of crimson. He opened his mouth to speak but he felt a lump forum in his throat. He closed his mouth again and sighed. This pattern was repeated several times before someone else finally spoke.

The waitress had returned placing the check on the table, "Did everything taste fine?"

Jou just looked at her then down at the table. His mouth was still having problems functioning. "Yes it was all very good," Anzu thankful answered for him, causing the waitress to leave.

The blonde boy reached into his pocket and his wallet. Without counting, he put what should've been more then enough to pay the bill and stood up, still in silence. With a shrug, Anzu did the same though she hurried out the door.

"Ich kann't Halt denkend an Sie,"(7) the American said, just above a whisper. Jou turned around to look at him, and couldn't help but smile at the fact that he wasn't wearing his normal pair of sunglasses. Though, he had been the reason why he wasn't.

"Ich'll sieht Sie später, Keith,"(8) the blonde finally managed to say, waving his hand slightly and exiting to follow Anzu, who no doubt would be waiting for him.

End Notes:

Why…?

What's happening to me?

It's one of those old fashion burger joints with the funny hats, jukeboxes and all, so they take your order. ^^

Look everyone it's Juri! ^_^v Not really, but I thought it would be a fun to put a yu-gi-oh version of her in here, even if it is pointless. I need to make less Utena references in my fictions. ~_~

Please don't let it be him

Sorry to disappoint you, but it's me.

I can't stop thinking about you

I'll see you later, Keith.

I hope the second chapter was worth the wait. Sorry it didn't have much Keith in it. @_@; For some reason he just didn't want to work in this chapter. Anyways, please review. ^_^
