Chapter Three: Seine Verlorene Nacht
The door closed behind them with a slight `click'. As if a natural reaction, Jounouchi found his way to the couch sitting down on it. His face wore a deep frown, one which no doubt caused Anzu to worry.
The brunette girl walked to where her quite depressed looking friend was sitting and placed herself down beside him. "Jounouchi…?" She spoke the word gently, as if she thought that if she didn't watch her tone she would break him. "Are you alright?" A frown placed it deep on her face.
"I'm fine Anzu," He whispered nonchalantly.
"No you're not," Anzu's frown deepened, if possible as she choked out the words. The dreadful sting of tears pierced the back of her eyes. But she knew she couldn't cry. If she had to cry, she would have to wait until Jounouchi was asleep like she had done the other night. She was thankful he hadn't come in to find her crying. Right now it was her job to be the strong one, not Jou. "Please tell me what's bothering…" Her arms gently placed themselves around the frowning boy, pulling him into a comforting embrace.
Jounouchi said nothing. He couldn't bring himself to tell her what was going on inside his head and heart right now. He knew she would understand and more then likely actually give him dating advice to go along with it. So why was he holding back? He didn't quite understand anything at that current moment. Up until a night ago, he thought all of his emotions but sorrow had gone numb.
"Does it have anything to do with last night…or the diner?" Anzu asked; Jou tensed. It was like she was reading exactly what was going through his mind at that very moment. "Jounouchi, what did Keith do to you?" She pressed the subject, even though she felt bad about doing so. It would be the best thing for Jounouchi to talk about it.
"He did nothing," Came the all to fast reply. Jou felt his wrists being grasped firmly, his head jerked to look into the now blue fire filled sapphire eyes that where Anzu's.
"Don't lie to me Jounouchi!" The words where yelled, much to the shock of both. As if they where burning her, Anzu threw Jou's hands away. Fighting her tears was becoming much harder then original at this point. She couldn't believe she had just yelled at Jounouchi in his time of need.
"Anzu…" The corner of his lips tugged into a friendly grin; of course fake, but unless you truly knew what was going on inside his head, it was hard to tell. "I'm grateful for you concern, however…" He frowned again, "let's just say what happened is a little more complicated then I let on."
His hand found it's way to her forehead, absentmindedly brushing a few of the strands away, "Don't worry I'll tell you a little bit later on. But for now, are you up for a movie? And maybe some food!"
"Jou! We just ate a little under an hours ago!" The brunette girl shook her head at her friend's sudden mood swings. He really had a talent at doing that.
"I know but I'm hungry!" The blonde wailed, patting his stomach as it `grumbled'. If Anzu didn't know any better, she'd think he could make his stomach do that on que.
"Honestly, sometime I worry about that appetite of yours," She laughed and rolled her eyes. "Fine, I'll order a pizza while you pick out a movie to watch." She pushed herself off the couch and into the so-called-kitchen to get the phone.
Anzu dialed the number, waiting impatiently for the people on the other end to pick up as Jounouchi looked through his small collection of movies. There was a click followed by an ever-so-cheesy greeting. Mentally she wondered what kind of brain dead idiots thought up with those kinds of things. "Yes," She said, "I would like to order a large pepperoni and sausage pizza to be delivered."
Meanwhile Jou scanned over his various movies, most of which featured Bruce Willis (1), looking for something both him and Anzu would enjoy. His luck wasn't very good. Most of the movies where action-packed films that where mostly made for males or butch lesbians, there just didn't seem to be anything that both would enjoy.
An odd title struck his interest. The movie was called "Interview with the Vampire". If he remembered correctly, he had borrowed it from Ryou three weeks ago. Too bad he had forgotten about it, it sounded quite interesting. (2) He picked the movie up and put it in the VCR just in time to hear Anzu say, "Pizza's on its way."
"That took you long enough to order," Jou teased, grinning slightly.
"Yeah, the guy was a pain," She replied with a small giggle poking Jounouchi's arm slightly. "So what are you we watching?"
"Interview with the Vampire," the blonde replied with a shrug.
The brunette girl quirked one of her thin brown eyebrows up, "That's not a movie I would expect you to have."
"I borrowed it from Ryou," Jou retorted giving Anzu's side a playful jab. In turned she made an odd squeaking noise and both burst out into laughter.
"Shhh…lets watch the movie," Anzu suggested after finally calming down her fit of laughter.
So they did. Neither of them said anything again, until Armand was on the screen. In fact the only time either of them had moved was when the pizza had arrived. Jou had been trying to watch the movie, stuffing his face with pizza. He couldn't concentrate. He picked up the remote, pausing the movie.
"What's up Jou?" Anzu asked, blinking.
"I kissed Keith," The blonde stated in an all too casual tone.
"Excuse me?" By this time Anzu's sapphire eyes where wide with shock. A thousand questions had somehow found their way into her mind. "When? Where? Why? Did he kiss back? Was he a good kisser?" She sputtered out the questions excitedly, though she knew she probably shouldn't be.
"Last night, at the park, because he wouldn't shut up, no it was too fast and I wouldn't know," Jou amazingly enough answered each one of the questions without ease despite the fact that Anzu had said them faster then any normal human being should be able to speak.
"Details…" the brunette replied, moving her body in order to look at the boy better. This was priceless information and she wasn't bound to miss the expressions on Jou's face as he spilt it all.
"They're not really important," Jou replied causing Anzu's face to darken a great deal. She had really wanted to hear the story, "For right now though, I think I might actually go try to find him again." He vacated the spot he had been situated on the couch, "Promise me you won't go running off while I'm gone. It would be nice to have a friend around just incase I'm rejected."
"I promise," A bright smile graced her features as she spoke the words. Jounouchi turned to walk out the door, but halted for a second when Anzu added something to her previous comment. "And Jou," He turned over his shoulder to look at her, "He'd have to be crazy to reject you."
Leaving Jou mouthed a quick `thanks' to his brunette friend, starting his way for the park. The muscles in his stomach contracted forming a large and unpleasant knot. He didn't understand why he was nervous. After all, Keith had told him that he couldn't stop thinking about him. Then again, confronting the person that you have feelings for isn't always the easiest thing in the world.
And when exactly had he developed feelings for Keith anyways? Was it back at duelist kingdom where they shared oh-so-many cruel banters with each other? It really couldn't have been any other time, and these sort of feelings don't just pop out of nowhere one lonely night. At least, he didn't think he did.
Sometime along the way, while he was lost in his thoughts, Jounouchi had begun running to reach the park. His mind and heart where currently nervous, but apparently his body had neither restraint nor worries.
He reached the park, finding the place he had been in, broken on the ground, the night before. Surely enough there stood Keith, leaning against the same tree. Perhaps they had both been thinking the same thing when the returned.
"Ich habe ich gerechnet'd findet Sie hier." (3) Jounouchi said, trying to seem serious though a smile was trying to break it's way through.
The blonde American looked over at him. Jou then noticed that he hadn't been wearing his sunglasses this time, confirming that he had been expecting him to show up and not wanting to get another pair destroyed. "Ich nehme an, daß Sie rechts gerechnet haben." (4) He retorted carelessly.
Nervous, Jou bit down on his lip thus causing Keith to raise an eyebrow in suspicion. "Wollen Keith, Sie aus irgendwann gehen?" (5) He asked, well, more like suggested, amazed by the fact that he hadn't been stuttering when her heard the words. The knot in his stomach twisted, becoming quite painful.
"Sicher, warum nicht?" (6)
"Erinnern Sie nur sich an nicht Verschleiß Ihre Brille, ich kann't verspricht Sie sie'll macht es aus in einem Stück." (7) Jou smiled a little, finally feeling relief from the nervous sentiment.
The American laughed, and for once, it was more enjoyable then annoying for Jounouchi to listen to.
Fin.
Hey, in my world, Jounouchi like him, as should everyone else. ~_~ Bruce Willis kicks major ass. ^_^ But I *can* see Jou as a Die Hard fan!
Uh yeah, no real reasons for choosing this rather then the fact that I'm obsessed with Anne Rice. This movie was bound to be mentioned in one of my fics sooner or later.
I figured I'd find you here.
I suppose you figured right.
Keith, do you want to go out sometime?
Sure, why not?
Just remember not wear your glasses, I can't promise you they'll make it out in one piece.
I hope everyone enjoyed it, though I'm sure majority of you hate the ending. It fits in my head. Uh yeah, I know of a Keith/Jou story, it was lacking in the Keith department. I was having fun writing Anzu. (I'm glad people said she was at least tolerable in this fic. I'm actually quite fond of her myself.) Anyways, please review. *smile*
