Chapter 10: A Girl Becomes a Woman

The winter came and gone, spring came around the corner and the desert blossoms bloomed and the city was filled with life. The wedding of the pharaoh's daughter and the high priest's son were to be married at the beginning of summer, and that night was approaching very fast, tension was building as the palace became decorated with decorations of the wedding festival. It was not long before the day rolled along, it was to be a grand day and Kurai was getting dressed in her gown.

“Today is the day, were you go from girl to woman.” Shizuka said to Kurai as she facined the strapless dress with a sash in the back and then she placed the gold waist piece on and the bigness and the layers of the white dress where in place.

“Your lucky my lady, not many women like you get to marry like this.” Mai helped place the elbow and upper arm gold pieces on along with the earrings.

“I know…I am very excited.” Kurai chuckled out of herself as her earrings were placed in.

“You should be, and your uncle will be there with you.” Rebecca applied lipstick and eye shadow; her eyeliner was applied along with a little blush.

“I am proud to have helped you through your childhood.” Isis brushed through her hair and tied it back into a bun and she placed the millennium puzzle around her neck around the white chocker Kurai wore.

“I just wish my mother were here to see me.” Kurai just stared into the mirror and didn't see the young girl she saw before, but a young woman who now took her place and would continue to take her place through the rest of her life.

“The ceremony begins in twenty minutes, do what you want between now and then my lady.” Isis led Mai, Rebecca, and Shizuka out of the room allowing Kurai to think.

`My life changes forever today' Kurai thought to herself as she exited the room five minutes after her lady's did.

“This is going to be grand…but I need you mother.” Tears fell to the ground “Why do you have to be gone all the time? I never see you…why did you have to die? Why can't you be proud?” A bright light shown from beneath Kurai and five feet in front of her, a woman with short brown hair and blue eye's appeared before her.

“I am proud of you.” Her blue eye's shown with compassion “You look almost like me when I married your father.”

“Mother?” Kurai stared at the see through image of her mother, Anzu. “Mother…how are you here?

“Your ability to contact the dead and I want to wish you luck Kurai.” Anzu looked at her beloved daughter “Your ability's will help you rule.”

“Mother can you stay? Father would love to see you.”

`Kurai its best if your father did know I was here…but it would be best if it was from you.” Anzu kissed her daughters forehead. “Not too long after I gave birth to you, my body gave out and my spirit left me…before that I told your father to change his ways…for your sake…look at you now.” Anzu placed her hand under Kurai's chin and Kurai looked up “You're a grown woman about to marry the man who is best for you…I will always be with you.” Anzu places her left hand on top of Kurai's left hand and placed it above her heart. “I will always be here. Go. Your uncle wants to see you, your wedding is beginning.” With those final words Anzu disappeared and Yuugi walked up

“Whom were you talking to?” Yuugi looked at his niece

“My mother…” Kurai turns around.

“Your mother was a beautiful woman. Come.” Yuugi takes Curai's hand and leads her to the chapel. “Anzu was a woman to fight for, but no one fought more fiercely over her than Atemu and Seth, in the end Atemu won, but he was the only man Anzu ever loved.” Lan was already waiting at the altar in his Yukata, it was white with blue and gold in the mix, he looked more handsome to Kurai than ever before.

“Everyone is with you today.” Atemu came up and nodded to Yuugi and he took a seat next to Rebecca. “I am with you, so is your mother.”

A nice smile spread across Kurai's already smiling face and Atemu and Kurai proceeded down the carpet to the altar where Lan and Shizuka were waiting. Kurai looked around, almost the entire kingdom was inside, she saw Duke, Tristan, Joey and Mai, Rebecca and Yuugi, there were so many people there, but Kurai holding her bouquet, still held onto the pharaoh's strong hand. Step by step, beat-by-beat, step-by-step, the pharaoh's child and the pharaoh made it down to the altar and Lan took Kurai's hand.

After all the funny vows and long sentences, the final question came, Kurai's heart beat loud and hard, the most important decision of her life was about to be embraced.

“Kurai, daughter of Pharaoh Atemu and Queen Anzu. Do you take high priest Lan, son of Seth and Shizuka Kaiba, to be your lawful wedded husband and king, to take care of him in sickness and in health, and to be happy and be pure a good queen for as long as you both shall live?”

Kurai's heart pounded, but she was happy, happy she could now spend the rest of her life with the man she loved the most.

“Yes.” A moment of Silence followed “I do.”

“Lan…. same question?” Lan stared into Kurai'a eye's and then stared at White Wizard Bakura

“ Yes” In a clear strong voice. “I take Kurai as my wife and queen, I wish to be with her forever.” Lan hugged Kurai as Mokuba came up the row with the rings. Lan took one ring and slowly slipped the round gold piece of jewelry onto her ring finger and Kurai did the same.

“Congratulations. I pronounce you Man and Wife, Pharaoh and Queen.” Bakura looked around “Anyone who objects to this marriage please stand up or forever hold your piece?”

“I disagree.” Adina stood up.

“Ok you may kiss the bride.” Kurai jumped up and hugged Lan with her arms in a lock around his neck and the two lovers kissed.

“One thing expect from you two is grandchildren” Shizuka shot a glance at Atemu. “On second thought take your time.”

Later that day the crowing of the new pharaoh and queen was to take place. Lan was dressed in the gramet of the high priest, wearing the cloak and gold of the pharaoh.

“Lan Kaiba, by marriage you gain the grown of the pharaoh, by the power vested in me you, Lan you are now the new pharaoh. The morning and the evening star, if by your will something is to be done then it shall be done, but not without consent of your queen.” The royal headdress, with the millennium eye, slipped easily onto Lan's head, Kurai got the other headdress, which just covered her forehead and some of the back of her head.

“My Pharaoh I present to you the staff of ages, but the millennium puzzle goes to your queen.” Mana gave Lan a staff with the millennium puzzle like figure at the top and the actual millennium puzzle was placed lightly around Kurai's neck.

“Kurai, Queen of Eygpt and Lan, the new pharaoh, may you rule Egypt with shining hands.” Atemu stepped back from the balcony and watched as his daughter and her one love ruled over eygpt.
