Chapter 01: Secret Love
Yami looked into the mirror, waking up to the fresh scent of mint filling his lungs as he brushed his teeth vigorously. When he was done he put the toothbrush back in its proper place, but left the cold tap running so he could fill his hands with cold water and splashed it onto his bronzed Egyptian skin.
As he splashed the water onto his face it ran slowly down his cheeks and dripped onto his neck and bare chest - it was so cooling after the warm August night. He hadn't been able to sleep, even with the window open, for the air was just as warm at night as it was during the day. Of course, the heat hadn't been the only thing keeping him awake.
“Morning, Yami…” came a sleepy voice from behind him.
Yami had been rubbing his face with the towel right then, and he almost dropped it as he heard the soft and familiar voice enter the bathroom. Through the mirror's reflection he could see Yugi standing in the open doorway, gazing at Yami sleepily through tired lavender eyes.
The older spirit turned around to face Yugi, and as he did he felt his heart skip a beat - quite literally - leaving a lump in his throat that almost made him choke as he gazed at the young seventeen-year-old. The boy was standing with his shirt undone, one hand on the door handle while the other gently rubbed one of his sleepy eyes in an attempt to wake up. His purple-black hair was also quite ruffled from a night of restless sleep, while his blonde bangs were crooked around his pale face. He looked so… adorable.
“Morning, Yugi…” Yami said in reply, managing to dislodge the choking wall in his throat long enough to make a coherent sentence. “I'm taking it you didn't sleep all that well, either?”
Slowly Yugi moaned and shook his head, not noticing Yami's anxious tone, as he was clearly finding it very difficult to wake up. He lifted his gaze and let one sleepy eye lock onto Yami's gaze, trying to focus his sight on the spirit. His feet stepped forward into the bathroom, but as his hand released the safety of the door handle he staggered forward and fell against Yami's chest. He moaned again, burying his face in Yami's shoulder.
A faint smile spread on Yami's face as he put the towel down in the empty sink and put his arms slowly around the hikari, holding him up. Yugi seemed to appreciate the embrace and wrapped his own arms loosely around Yami's waist.
The return of the embrace made Yami tense up, and for a second or two he stopped breathing. Yugi's skin was so soft and warm against him, and he could feel the hikari's breath against his neck. After those few seconds in which he took in the feeling of Yugi's warmth being so close to him he began to breathe again, his lip trembling as he fought the urge to hold his partner even closer in a tighter, loving embrace.
Yet as much as he longed to hold Yugi that way, he resisted the feeling. For one thing, Yugi's grandfather could walk in on them at any moment. Second, Yami knew that Yugi didn't feel that way about him. Yugi's affection was one of friendship - a sign of how close they were as spiritual partners. But… although that was where the affection ended for Yugi, for Yami… it went much further.
“Hey,” Yami said suddenly, glancing down at his partner. “Are you going to stay there all day? Don't you have to go to school today?”
Another loud yet still sleepy groan came from his hikari, muffled since his head was still buried in Yami's shoulder. “Don't remind me about school…” the boy moaned, tightening his grip around Yami's waist and making him gasp again. “Besides, it's a half day today… Some… teacher's thing…” He yawned silently, and closed his eyes.
Yami gave in and allowed himself to hold the hikari for a minute more, one hand gently ruffling the soft short hair on the back of his aibou's neck. Yugi seemed to enjoy the sensation as he shivered slightly, which made Yami smile. Yugi was so adorable when he was like this. If only…
“Right, that's enough for now,” Yami said automatically, although the words were not meant. He took Yugi's shoulders and lifted the boy up, despite his disappointed groans. “You'll feel better when you've washed up.” He turned on the cold tap and handed Yugi the wash cloth. “Come on, aibou.”
“All right… all right…” Yugi replied, taking the cloth. His eyes seemed a little more awake now, able to fix on Yami without wandering. He even managed a smile before lightly staggering past his darker half to get to the sink and put in the plug.
Yami walked over to the door, but stopped in the open doorway to glance back at Yugi as he finally got the plug to stay in the sink so it would fill up with cold running water. He watched as the hikari cupped his hands into the water and threw it on his face, and then crying out loudly because it was colder than he expected and some of the water had fallen down his shirt sleeve.
For a moment Yami laughed, until his own violet eyes softened until they became almost sad as he watched his hikari become tangled in his own shirt, as well as struggling to turn off the tap. He could share all these moments with Yugi, and they were able to share secrets with one another, too. But the one thing Yami wanted to share with Yugi… was something he never could share. He didn't want to make Yugi scared or afraid of him…
It just wasn't fair.
Aibou… Yami thought silently, making sure Yugi couldn't hear his thoughts. I really wish you could see…
Then Yami turned and walked out of the bathroom, leaving Yugi to his struggling.
Emerald: Whee! My first proper yaoi story. Although at the moment I have no idea where this fic is gonna go. It's gonna be a bit of angst, a bit of yaoi, this and that.
Yami: Since when do you have any idea what it is you're writing?
Emerald: Hey, it's a YamixYugi lemon. That's all I know.
Yami: You don't say. Even Kaiba could have figured that one out.
Yuug: Ooo, sarky.
Emerald: Yup. Basically, with this fic, this is all you need to know:
“Follow me, to YAOI! I have no idea where I'm going, but as long as there's yaoi I don't care.”
Yuug: You stole that off ShadowYami!
Emerald: A bad writer borrows. A good writer steals.
Yami: And she stole that from a writing book.
Emerald: ENOUGH ALREADY! Anyway, the next chapter shall be up soon!
