Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Destined for More ❯ "GAH! I'm DEAD!" ( Chapter 2 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Author's Note: I noticed (with great pain) that I didn't get many reviews. If it's because of Dr. Straussen and the spaceship, don't worry. They were just plot devices to get Joey to the planet. Chances are they'll never be mentioned again. Now, the story.

Destined for More

Chapter Two

". . . found him on the outskirts of town. He needed help so I brought him here."

Joey began to hear voices, but they seemed to echo in his head. He didn't dare open his eyes, fearing what he might see.

"He was a lucky one, he was. His most serious injury was a mild concussion."

Slowly, Joey opened his eyes. At first, everything seemed blurry, but his eyes slowly adjusted. Everything around him was white. Joey sat up, using his hands to keep himself up.

"Well, what do you know? He's awake!"

Joey looked over to his side. What he saw astonished him. At bedside were a pair of people. One was a man with short brown hair, and the second was a woman with red hair. Both were wearing white. However, they both had a pair of large, snow white wings coming from their backs.

"GAH!" Joey yelled. "I'm DEAD!"

The woman rushed up. "Calm down, please! You are not dead. You are still alive, so don't worry."

"Then why are there angels in here with me?" Joey asked, puzzled.

The man and the woman looked at each other, confused. "Angels?" the woman asked.

"You know, angels," Joey said. "They've got huge white wings, wear white, have halos over their heads, and are the servants and messengers of God. Angels."

"Then we're not angels," the woman said. "You are currently on the planet Chaimel. We Chaimellans have wings like your angels. In fact, we find it odd that you lack wings."

"Ever hear of a planet called Earth?" Joey asked. "That's where I'm from."

"Ah, so you are an alien!" the man exclaimed. "I thought so! We know a little bit about Earth. However, most xenobiology is kept within the Royal Family."

"There's a Royal Family here?" Joey asked.

"Whose ship do you think you saved?" the man asked.

"Wait, you mean that silver ship was that of the Royal Family?"

The man nodded. "I'm sure the king has sent his servants out to look for the brave soul that saved his dear daughter. I'm afraid you're stuck here, anyway. Your ship's engines were burned completely off and the fuselage has a huge crack running down the length."

"Wait!" Joey exclaimed. "What about my stuff?"

"Your personal belongings are right next to your bed," the nurse responded.

Joey reached down and grabbed his suitcase. He quickly opened it and, after making sure everything was there, slipped on his Duel Disk. Even though no one of this planet had probably ever heard of Duel Monsters, it put his mind at ease knowing it was on his arm.

"Well, if you're feeling better, you can go," the nurse told Joey. "Since you probably can't pay us with Earth currency, consider this on the house."

"Holy cow!" Joey exclaimed as he left the hospital. "This place looks just like Earth!"

"It does, huh?" the man responded.

"Yeah! If I didn't know any better, I'd think that I was in downtown Domino!"

"Well, this is the downtown area," the man said, "but that also means you have to watch out for -"

"AHH! HELP!"

"Crooks."

Joey ran in the direction of the scream. It led him into a dead-end alleyway. He stopped when he saw what was going on. A woman, who was dressed much like a maid, was backed up against a wall, and cornering her there was a tough-looking man. His most notable feature was his black wings.

"Hey!" Joey shouted. "What's going on here?"

The mugger turned around. "Keep out of this, cripple."

"Cripple?!" Joey shouted. "What do you mean, 'cripple?'"

"You don't have wings," the mugger said, "so that makes you a cripple."

"Well, on my planet, you'd be considered a freak!" Joey responded. "And from the looks of it, your black wings make you a freak even here!"

The maid gasped. "For your information," the mugger growled, "these wings represent my allegiance! Now, you've made me angry! Before I finish with this woman, I'll give you the beating of your life!" He then launched himself at Joey. Joey tried to get out of the way, but the mugger's wings gave him extra speed and he caught Joey with a punch to the face that knocked him back several feet. Joey jumped up and threw a punch at his assailant, but the mugger moved out of the way, again using his wings to give him extra velocity. The mugger circled around and punched Joey in the small of the back, knocking him forward a few feet. Joey got back to his feet, only to take another blow to the head, which caused his vision to blur for a moment.

Man, if I don't think of something fast, I'll be back in the hospital! Joey then looked at the Duel Disk on his left arm. Wait! That's it!

Joey stood up and brushed himself off. "Too bad for you, I haven't gotten serious yet," he said.

The mugger stopped. "Oh? And how are you planning to 'get serious?'"

Joey pulled a card out of his deck. "Like THIS! I summon the Red Eyes Black Dragon!" A hologram of the dragon appeared. However, the mugger did not know that it was just a hologram.

"Wh-what the hell is that?" the mugger shouted.

"You like it?" Joey responded. "This is my Red Eyes Black Dragon! It can tear you limb from limb!"

The mugger laughed. "The people of the planet Chaimel have slain dragons in the past! I'm not worried about one dragon!"

"All right," Joey said, "let's see how you deal with two!" He drew another card from his deck. "I summon the Blue Eyes White Dragon!" A hologram of the monster appeared.

The mugger was looking a little nervous. "Two dragons, big deal," he said.

Joey grinned. It would take one more push to knock him over. "Well, those two monsters are nothing compare to this last one! I summon the most powerful monster of all time! I call forth The Winged Dragon of Ra!" The hologram of the divine beast appeared in all its glory, dwarfing the two dragons that had been summoned before it. "Now, you have no chance! The Winged Dragon of Ra is the incarnation of a god! It's invincible!"

The mugger took a step back. "All right!" he cried. "You win for now! But I'll be back! I swear on the wings that are as black as night!" With that he ran off.

The holograms of the monsters disappeared as Joey put the cards back in his deck and spit out some blood. "Yeah, well, I spit on the wings that are as black as night." He walked over to the maid, who had slumped to the ground, and smiled. "Hey. You all right?" He extended his hand. "Here. Let me help you up."

The maid took Joey's hand and stood up. "Thank you very much," she said. "You certainly are an interesting one, indeed."

Joey looked puzzled. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"Well, you don't have wings, and you can summon monsters," the maid responded. "You said you're from another planet? What business do you have here?"

"Well, I'm stuck here," Joey answered. "My ship got messed up in a fight above the planet and-"

The maid gasped. "You're the one!" she exclaimed. "You're the one who saved the princess! Please, come with me!"

-2-

"Whoa," Joey said in awe. "This place is huge! Even bigger than KaibaCorp and Kaiba's mansion put together!"

"This palace belongs to the Royal Family," the maid said. "I work here as one of the senior maids. My name is Hannah."

Joey stuck his hand out. "Joey Wheeler," he said. Hannah merely stared at Joey's outstretched hand. Joey moved his hand up and down, then he realized that his customs were probably not shared bu Chaimellans, so he put his hand down. "I forgot I'm not on Earth anymore. On Earth it's our custom to shake a person's hand when you meet someone."

"I see," Hannah said. "My apologies. Now, let us proceed to the throne room." Hannah walked toward the palace, Joey following. Hannah led Joey past a large set of wooden doors and up a flight of stairs to a mezzanine. She walked right past a set of gilded doors and into a long room with a carpet and a pair of thrones on the end. Hannah walked up to the thrones and got down on her knees.

"Sire," Hannah said, "I have found the person who saved the princess. He will come forward now." Joey walked forward and deciding that "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" was sound advice, kneeled.

"Please rise, both of you," the king said. Both Hannah and Joey stood up and Joey got his first glance of the king of Chaimel. He was dressed in purple robes that fit a little too tightly, signaling that he had put on some weight. He had a full beard that reached down to his Adam's apple, and a prominent mustache. It seemed that he had blond hair, but it had started to turn gray. He had a rather ornate crown sitting on top of his head.

"Greetings," the king said. "My name is Gabriel. So it was you who was in the ship in orbit."

"Yes, uh, sire," Joey said. "That was my ship."

"What's your name, son?" King Gabriel asked.

"Joey Wheeler, sire," Joey responded. "I'm a human from Earth."

"Earth, huh?" the king responded. "So that explains why you don't have wings.

"Anyway, you saved my daughter. I offer you my utmost thanks."

Joey scratched the back of his head and grinned sheepishly. "It was nothing, Your Majesty. I just hate bullies, that's all."

"Sire, this young man - I mean, Joey - also helped me out," Hannah said. "He was able to drive off an Eclipsian."

King Gabriel's eyes widened. "Really? How did you do that?"

"He called forth monsters using the device on his arm, sire," Hannah answered.

"Ah, a summoner!" the king exclaimed. "You must be one of those summoners from Earth! The ones that always get in to duels! I'd like to see you summon a monster, if you don't mind."

Joey sweatdropped. They really think these monsters are real. Nonetheless, he shifted his Duel Disk into dueling mode and pulled out a card. "All right. I summon Panther Warrior!" He slid the card into place and the hologram of a Panther Warrior appeared.

"Amazing!" King Gabriel exclaimed. "So it was monsters like these that you used!"

Joey removed the card and the hologram disappeared. He put the card back in the deck. "Uh, Your Majesty, if it's not too much to ask, may I meet the daughter I saved?"

"Of course!" King Gabriel responded. "She has been dying to meet her savior, anyway." He then looked over at a door. "Tobias!"

A young squire walked through the door. "Yes, Your Majesty?"

"Please get Serra for me," the king responded.

"Right away, Your Highness!" Tobias said and ran back through the door.

King Gabriel turned his attention back to Joey. "How old are you, Joey?"

"I'm eighteen Earth years old, Your Majesty," Joey answered.

"Believe it or not, Chaimel years are the same length as Earth years," King Gabriel responded. "So, on either planet, you're eighteen. Well, it will be good for Serra to meet a boy her age."

"I'm meeting a boy my age, Daddy?" came a voice from the door.

"Ah yes," the king said. "Serra, this is Joey. He's the one who saved you in orbit."

Joey waited as the princess walked up to her father. She then looked at Joey. "Hello. My name is Serra. Thank you very much for saving me up there."

Joey looked at Serra for the first time. She wore a white gown with gold trim and a pair of white silk gloves that extended to her elbows. She wore a gold necklace around her slender neck, and she had a tiara with a ruby in it on her head. She had large, blue eyes, and had wavy blonde hair that extended halfway down her back.

Geez, Joey thought. Didn't realize she'd be such a knockout. Gotta keep my guard up, though. He then bowed. "I'm Joey Wheeler, princess."

"It's nice to meet you, Joey," Serra said. She then looked at Joey's arm. "Is that one of those devices used to summon monsters on Earth?"

"You mean a Duel Disk? Yeah, this is one," Joey said.

"Funny," Serra said. "Yours looks different from the others I've seen. That's the only one I've seen in black and red."

Joey lifted his Duel Disk. "This is a custom Duel Disk," Joey said. "They let me have one since I'm the third best duelist on Earth. It's the same colors as my favorite monster, the Red Eyes Black Dragon."

"Serra, dear, it's time to get ready for dinner," King Gabriel said. "You can talk to him more when we're at dinner."

"Huh? Are you inviting me to stay, Your Majesty?" Joey asked.

"Why, of course!" the king responded. "You saved my daughter! It's the least I could do for you! Tobias, show Joey to his room."
