DESTINY
Amethyst eyes lifted from the dispassionate study around the hall to stare at the darkening sky out of the window, the hood pulled over his face, shielding the strangely pale features from the last lights of dusk. Servants bustled around, finishing the decorations of the hall for the dance that night, casting curious glances at the motionless figure standing next to the window. The pharaoh's companion had been withdrawn lately, moving about the palace with soundless steps like a lost wraith, head bowed in an almost drained way.
The pharaoh noticed the change. The servants had heard him asking his companion about the problems bothering him, his voice rising in anger when he received the same silence as an answer each time he inquired. No one had ever possessed the courage or nerve to make the pharaoh angry, nor did the pharaoh usually permit his temper to rule his head. His hikari was the only one capable in infuriating him, and get out alive and unscathed in the bargain.
Drip.
Yuugi blinked. Grey clouds hung over the place, obscuring the setting golden orb from view, droplets of cold water falling from them and splattering on the ground. Blooming delightfully outside in the palace's garden, the flowers, trimmed to appear as the imitation of each other, similar to the rest of the gardens in the palace, bent slightly under the calm drizzle. It was raining.
~ Baby's black balloon makes her fly
I almost fell into that hole in your life
And you're not thinking about tomorrow
`Cause you were the same as me
But on your knees ~
Startling crimson eyes instantly fixed themselves on the remote boy as the pharaoh stalked inside the hall with a sharp swish of the black robe. The servants halted in their work before quickly bowing to the pharaoh, their eyes anxiously flickering towards the pharaoh's companion. Yuugi did not stir, seemingly drowned in his deep thoughts and oblivious to the person making for him in irate strides.
Drip.
A firm hand grabbed hold of his shoulder, spinning him around to meet the gaze of an extremely annoyed pharaoh. Bewildered, Yuugi stared up at the taller boy, his dull amethyst eyes wide with surprise. The pharaoh's dark face softened when he saw the first emotion his hikari had shown for the past several weeks. But that did not mean his anger at Yuugi had subsided.
"Where had you been today?" The pharaoh asked quietly, his voice so low until the servants in the hall had to strain their ears to hear the words although it was shaking with unmistaken fury. Yuugi did not respond to him; he continued to stare at the pharaoh as if in a trance while the servants looked on in increased apprehension, not daring to interrupt them.
~ A thousand other boys could never reach you
How could I have been the one
I saw the world spin beneath you
And scatter like ice from the spoon
That was your womb ~
Clenching his teeth, he gritted out in the same strained voice, "Do you know that I am worried about you?" No reply. The pharaoh took a deep breath and closed his eyes, struggling to control his temper. Yuugi's uncharacteristic behavior had been troubling him lately, and he was unable to help his hikari when his hikari refused to tell him what was happening. This hurt the pharaoh more than he expected. His hikari had never kept anything from him. By choosing to retreat into the silence, the pharaoh was rendered helpless as he watched his hikari sinking deeper into the voiceless state day by day, every second a step away from him. He hated being helpless. Especially when Yuugi was concerned.
Drip.
Icy fingers touched the pharaoh's cheek. Crimson eyes snapped open, locking themselves in a gaze with amethyst eyes, widening when Yuugi traced down his cheek, pausing at his lips before drawing away to hang at Yuugi's side once more, lifeless. Numb lips parted and a whisper escaped through them, nearly inaudible even in the hall's stillness.
I know, Yami.
~ Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
Or are you someone's prayer ~
Holding his hikari's gaze, an eyebrow raised elegantly, the pharaoh gave a small, mocking bow. "Will my light consent to a dance with this humble pharaoh?" Amusement glittered unexpectedly in Yuugi's eyes, his lips twitching slightly. The pharaoh smirked. Not sparing a moment for the reply, he swept his hikari to the center of the dance floor, guiding Yuugi in a slow dance, their bodies pressing intimately against one another. Shaking in uncontrollable laughter while following the pharaoh's lead effortlessly and gracefully, Yuugi tilted his head to the side. "Humble?" he asked dryly at the smirking pharaoh.
"I prefer to keep my modesty." The superior answer earned Yami a snickering Yuugi in his arms. The pharaoh rested his cheek against him, nuzzling the light and silken hair, breathing in deeply his hikari's scent, which had always reminded him of rain, while savoring the quiet sound of the laughter. He had missed it. He had missed his hikari.
Drip.
"Darling?"
~ You know the lies they always told you
And the love you never knew
What's the things they never showed you
That swallowed the light from the sun
Inside your room ~
Both of them went still. Cold crimson eyes turned towards the brown-haired girl in an extravagant, pink gown with a large ribbon around the slim waist who had disrupted the precious moment between him and his hikari. Yuugi closed his eyes. The girl, either missed the look or thick enough to misinterpret the murderous glare into something sentimental, smile a sickeningly sweet smile at Yami.
"Darling, the servant seems exhausted. Will you like to dance with me instead?" Anzu said in her high-pitched voice, and quickly added, "Of course, I was just thinking. You do not have to pleasure me if you do not want to. But I was dreaming of dancing with you…" Her voice trailed off hopefully as she looked at Yami with her big brown eyes.
Drip.
Pulling away from Yami's warm embrace, his head bowed in the familiar, weary gesture, Yuugi averted his eyes from Yami. "If there is nothing else you request of me, may I leave now?" Anzu dismissed him with a casual flick of her hand and Yuugi spun on his heels, leaving the pharaoh, who was boring holes through the back of his head, with his bride-to-be to practice for the dance that night.

And I go on as you get colder ~
Bright, twinkling stars gathered above him, illuminating the palace's private garden in a soft, silvery glow. The dance had ended. Lying on the grass, the amethyst-eyed boy could hear the guests departing for the night. Tomorrow, the palace would returned to the quiet daze, the sun would rise to shine on the garden again. But Yami would be different; he would be married. Yuugi would not be here to witness the new couple, though. By tomorrow, Yuugi would not be here.
Yami could not find his hikari. He did not appear at the dance, he was not in his room. Worry gnawed at him until he could not concentrate in playing the host during the dance. In the end, the pharaoh snapped when Anzu, the chosen bride by his late father, attempted to seduce him by blinking her eyes rapidly at him. He stormed out of the hall, a frantic and teary Anzu at his heels, putting a stop to the girl with a cold snarl, "My father's wish is not exactly helping your physical health, princess. I advice you to never set a foot inside this place again, and you will be wise to take it."
Drip.
Yami paid no heed to the beginning of another drizzle as he scanned the garden for his hikari's presence, his mind went blank when he caught sight of a small figure lying on the grass, a dark puddle around the body, seemingly the color of his own eyes in the faint moonlight. No. No, it was not. Hikari would never try to leave him, hikari never leaves yami.
~ And there's no time for losin'
When you stand they fall ~
Cradling his hikari in his arms, Yami tucked a strand of a stray hair behind the ear. Yuugi was beautiful, the most beautiful person he had ever seen in his life. They were such a vivid contrast. Yuugi was hikari, Yuugi was the light, and he was the opposite, the darkness. It did not matter, because Yuugi was his light. It was not important, because he had an angel.
Drip.
It was raining, again.
I know, Yami.

I love you too, yami.
