Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Double Identity ❯ Halloween ( Chapter 6 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

(Meira: Chapter 6 already? Yeesh… I'm writing pretty fast…

Anyways… I'm desperately hoping that this story won't turn out to be… about a thousand chapters… at the rate that I'm going. So I'll have to speed up the pace of this story… and write longer chapters. Some of you will be happy… others not so much.

So… please enjoy these "long" chapters while I'm still writing them!

Disclaimer: I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh or any of its characters, Kai Hiwatari or Beyblade or anything to do with it, or Saéka and Riruka [GLTB owns them…], Kikyo from Inuyasha, or any of the songs that appear in this chapter.

More of the plot should be uncovered here. It'll take a while to get to the main one… which happens after season three… and here I am, still on season one. Another reason to speed up the pace of the story…

I couldn't help making half this dance part songfic [GLTB, please don't be mad…] since I've recently started reading songfics. So, if you want to skip the songfic part, go ahead. But just a warning… you'll probably miss some of the plot.

Now I should probably shut up and let you guys read the story.)

~~Kai's POV~~

[Meira: All right! We're finally out of Saéka's POV!]

What was I going to do? I wanted to ask Saéka to go with me to the dance… but what would she say? We'd been friends for a long time… what would she think if all of a sudden I told her, "Hey, Saéka. I've had a crush on you for years now, so I'd like you to go to the Halloween dance with me."

She'd probably look at me like I was a friggin' freak or something… I had been pretty nasty to her lately. She'd probably death glare at me, and then just stop being my friend…

But then again… Saéka had always been understanding. Sure, she could be annoying at times, but she'd always been one of my best friends. That's why I'd given her that necklace…

She'd thought that it was some kind of a joke or something. She'd thought that I was crazy. Little did she know that I'd really meant something when I gave it to her… I'd hoped that she'd never forget me.

I looked at the phoenix necklace that was around my neck. I smiled when I saw it.

~~Flashback~~

"Happy Birthday, Kai!" Saéka yelled. "You're 15!"

"Yeah," I mocked. "And you're still stuck at lousy little 14…" Saéka stuck her tongue out at me.

"Then I guess I don't need to give you your present, now that you're so old," she teased.

"Gimme," I said, extending my hand out and acting like a little child. I knew that this always made her laugh. "Gimme, gimme, gimme."

Sure enough, Saéka laughed. "Freak," she muttered. "You think you're so funny…"

"Then why do you laugh at my jokes?" I teased.

"Because you act so stupid," she retorted.

"Well… then… gimme!" I said, stomping my foot down, hoping that she would laugh again. I liked seeing her laugh. It was when she seemed most… free spirited and alive, I guess.

Unluckily for me, she was trying to stay serious. "Well, no present for little Dranzie until he starts acting like Kai again," she teased.

"Fine… Please give me my present," I replied, sticking out my hand.

"Ooh… is little Dranzer upset because mean old Saéka won't give him his birthday present?" she laughed.

"Gimme my present or I'll kick your ass," I growled.

Saéka had always been surprised that I acted like a tough guy in front of everybody, but then I acted really nice and funny in front of her. She'd told me that I had a Yami and a Hikari. My Yami came out when I was around other people, and my Hikari was out when I was around her. I came up with a lame excuse and said that it was mood swings.

"Okay, Kai," she replied, smirking. "Your present." She held out a small jewelry box. Was she joking or something? I reached for it, but she held it up over her head. That really didn't make much sense since I was taller than her… but I reached for it anyway.

"Did you have sugar or something?" she asked suspiciously. "Because you seem to be having a spasm or something…"

"I DID NOT HAVE SUGAR!" I stormed.

"Sure…" she replied, rolling her eyes.

"Fine… I had a few Pixie Sticks…" I mumbled. Saéka laughed.

"You mean you actually eat PIXIE STICKS?" she asked, practically doubling over with laughter.

"I just tried them this morning…" I mumbled, my face turning bright red. I had to look down to hide my embarrassment. Something that I normally didn't do. Saéka just kept on laughing. I suppose she had a right to keep on laughing…

"SHUT UP!" I roared. Saéka immediately stopped laughing, looking at me with fear in her eyes. Or was it just a cover up for the assumption that she was laughing at me with her eyes.

"Sorry…" I mumbled, feeling guilty all of a sudden. Maybe I had gone too far…

"It's okay," she smiled, holding out my present. Maybe she felt guilty for laughing at me too…

I took my present gratefully and opened it. Inside was a necklace with a phoenix charm.

"I know how much you're obsessed with phoenixes…" she said, her eyes laughing at me. "So I decided that I'd get you a phoenix necklace."

"Thanks," I said gratefully, putting it on.

"No prob," she answered.

~~End Flashback~~

I looked at the necklace again. I smiled, and headed toward Saéka's homeroom, hoping to ask her there.

When I got there, I saw her talking to Yugi. Both of them looked pretty serious. I saw Saéka laugh. So it wasn't that bad… but then Kaiba sauntered up to her.

What the hell was Kaiba doing?

~~Saéka's POV~~

"You're a what?" I asked incredulous. What the hell was `Yugi' talking about?

"I'm a spirit," he said shortly. "I reside within this Millennium Puzzle."

"And your name is…?" I asked.

"I've been called many things."

"Pick two."

"Yami no Yugi."

"I said two. You don't have to change halfway," I said, exasperated. What was he doing, saying Yami, then changing his mind and saying Yugi?

"I've been called Yami no Yugi."

"Okay… what about another one?"
"Yami."

"Like… doesn't that mean dark?" I asked. Er… Yami… nodded.

"Yes… but I don't remember much about my past…" he replied.

"Who would? I mean, you said that you've been dead for like… 5,000 years? That's a really long time. To tell you the truth, I'd be surprised if you actually remembered your past.

"Saéka," a voice said. I turned to see Seto Kaiba standing next to me, ignoring Yami.

"What?" I asked coldly. Freak.

"I would like to inquire your presence at the… ah… formal event that our beloved school is hosting next week," he said, sounding like an overly pompous penguin. Idiot.

"In English, please?" I said.

"I would like you to… um… go… to… the school dance…" he said, struggling with English. Whoops. I meant Japanese.

"Of course I'm going to the Halloween dance," I replied coldly.

"You have a date?" Kaiba asked, his eyes boring holes into me.

"No," I replied sweetly.

"Then will you go with me?" he asked

~~Yugi's POV~~

I switched with Yami. Was this the real Seto Kaiba? And was he really asking Saéka to the dance? Okay… this was just plain scary.

I mean… this was weird. Even for Kaiba.

I glanced over to Saéka to see how she reacted.

She was looking at Kaiba like he was a slug of something like that.

"Well…" she said slowly. "Maybe if you weren't such a freak… and then add the fact that you tripped me during English yesterday…"

Kaiba just stalked off.

What a strange day.

~~Kai's POV~~

I watched Kaiba stalk off. Good… he was leaving. Now I could get in a word with Saéka…

She just turned and continued talking to Yugi. She sure seemed to be good friends with him…

I don't know why, but for some strange reason, seeing her talk to him hurt me. She looked so happy, laughing and joking.

Damnit, was I jealous? No… me? Kai Hiwatari is never jealous.

Then why did I feel like this?

***`

Okay… just dial her room number. I picked up the phone at Yugi's house.

This was truly a strange day. The family that I was staying with moved… so now I was staying at Yugi's.

Now… I had to call Saéka and ask her to the dance. If only I could get the nerve to…

Just dial… there's no need to be afraid. So I dialed… I heard Saéka's voice come over the phone.

"Hello?" she asked.

"Saéka?" I asked nervously.

"Kai?" she asked. "Is this about the gum I jammed your locker with?"

"No, it's-" I began. "Wait… YOU JAMMED MY LOCKER WITH GUM?!?"

"Yeah…" she said sheepishly.

"Well," I replied. I couldn't act nasty to her now… I had to be calm, collected. Damn, this was going to be hard. "I was wondering… if you would go to the dance with me."

"As friends?" she asked suspiciously. What the hell?"

"Yeah," I lied, hoping she would buy it. She laughed.

"You're the second guy to ask me today!"

"Who asked you first?" I asked, trying to sound cool. [Meira: erm… that sounds like a guy from my school…] Inside I was panicking.

"Seto Kaiba."

"HE WHAT?" I yelled.

"Don't worry," she answered, exasperated. "I rejected him. And… I guess I could go with you."

I cheered silently. "Okay," I answered, trying to sound nonchalant. "See you at school tomorrow."

***`

I glanced at the clock. It was the night of the Halloween dance, and Saéka was… oh… about ten minutes late.

I looked at my outfit. I had to ask myself why I was going as Ray from Beyblade. Because Saéka loved Beyblade. What level had I brought myself to?

"Kai!" I heard a voice call. I turned to see Saéka running up, dressed in a priestess costume. [Meira: the one that Kikyo wears in Inuyasha, complete with bow and arrow. GLTB… I hope you're happy…] "Sorry I'm late," she said sheepishly. "The dumb cab driver kept on thinking that I was going to poke him with one of my arrows." I laughed.

"No prob," I smiled.

"Attention," the principal announced. "I'd like to start off this evening by inviting up a student to perform something for us. Any volunteers?"

I smirked. "I bet you couldn't make it up there for the sake of the entire world."

"Oh yeah?" she challenged.

"Yeah," I replied.

"Watch me," she said coldly, raising her hand.

"Miss Mizuki!" the principal yelled. "We have a volunteer!"

Damnit. What had I gotten her into?

~~Saéka's POV~~

I walked slowly up to the stage. I couldn't believe that I had just volunteered to sing… in front of the whole school. Stupid Kai… thought that I didn't dare to perform… so I volunteered.

Was I up here on the stage already?

"Miss Mizuki?" the principal asked, looking at me. "What would you like to perform?"

I looked down at my priestess costume. Okay, Saéka, think fast… think fast…

"1000 Words," I said. God, I even surprised myself.

"Very well," the principal said, nodding to the pianist there. Oh god. I wasn't going to make it. I was going to fail…

The music started. Damnit… I was doomed. I glanced out and saw Kai standing there in the crowd, smirking. Anger flared through me. I would show him…

I know that you're hiding things

Using gentle words to shelter me

Your words were like a dream

But dreams could never fool me

Not that easily

I sang. Shakily… I was dead. No! I had to be strong… show Kai that I wasn't a coward.

I acted so distant then

Didn't say goodbye before you left

But I was listening

You'll fight your battles far from me

Far too easily

Okay… this was going much better. I looked out at Kai. He looked shocked. Like he didn't believe that I could do this. Ha. Shows how much he knows…

"Save your tears cause I'll come back"

I could hear that you whispered as you walked through that door

But still I swore

To hide the pain when I turn back the pages

Shouting might have been the answer

What if I'd cried my eyes out and begged you not to depart

But now I'm not afraid to say what's in my heart.

I'm not afraid. I can do this…

Though a thousand words

Have never been spoken

They'll fly to you

Crossing over the time and distance holding you

Suspended on silver wings.

I could swear that I was flying when I sang this song. The words just floated throughout the gym… somehow creating the illusion (to me at least) that we were outside…

And a thousand words

One thousand confessions

Will cradle you

Making all of the pain you feel seem far away

They'll hold you forever.

Did this song have a thousand words in it? If I counted them and it really did have a thousand words in it… what would Kai think?

The dream isn't over yet

Though I often say I can't forget

I still relive that day

"You've been there with me all the way"

I still hear you say.

Kai and I had been friends for so long… he'd been there for me and I'd been there for him…

"Wait for me I'll write you letters"

I could see how you stammered with your eyes to the floor

But still I swore to hide the doubt

When I turn back the pages

Anger might have been the answer

What if I'd hung my head and said that I couldn't wait

But now I'm strong enough to know it's not too late.

Kai had promised that he'd write once he got to Wisconsin… he never did. Why, I don't know… I'd never asked him that. I'd felt left behind… by my best guy friend.

Cause a thousand words

Call out through the ages

They'll fly to you

Even though we can't see I know they're reaching you

Suspended on silver wings.

I'd tried to call… he'd never answered. Why? And why was he acting like this now? Was there… something he wasn't telling me?

Oh a thousand words

One thousand embraces

Will cradle you

Making all of your weary days seem far away

They'll hold you forever.

Did he still remember the days when he hated me and I hated him? Now that we'd been apart for so long… did he change? What was up with him? There were so many unanswered questions about Kai…

And a thousand words

Call out through the ages

They'll cradle you

Turning all of the lonely years to only days

They'll hold you forever

The song ended. I glanced at Kai. He was looking at me, admiration shining in his eyes. Whoa… wait. Did I just see admiration? I looked again. Kai had erased that look and was now smirking and politely applauding.

Idiot.

(Meira: Pathetic… crappy… boring…

Yami: That describes your chapter.

Meira: *sigh* I know… This is my crappiest chapter yet. *hangs head in shame*

Yami: Please give some positive reviews to poor Meira here… so she doesn't feel so depressed.

Meira: Yami, if I were depressed, I'd be killing you right now.

Yami: …

Meira: So… Kai likes Saéka, but isn't sure if she likes him back. Have you ever liked somebody, but didn't think that they liked you back? Would you ask the person that you liked out, and see if he or she really likes you, or would you have waited it out?

If one of your best friends, that you'd only considered a friend before, suddenly asked you if you liked him or her, how would you react?

And… when you read this song, or listen to it, do you understand it? Have you been in the same spot as the person in this song? [I'm not a good song interpreter… or good at matching lyrics with words…]

Lol… I was watching this one dumb movie where a guy asks tells one of his best friends that he likes her… just not so… directly. So she got confused and thought that he meant her sister, except her sister likes the guy's best friend. Weird yes… but it's funny too… that's where I got the idea for this weird question and retarded chapter.

Have fun with the retarded questions!)
