Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Dragon Rising ❯ A Mother's Lullaby ( Prologue )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

A woman's voice sang to him, lulling him into a baby's cozy dream world.

I'm wishing on a star
To follow where you are
I'm wishing on a dream
To follow what it means

She rocked him gently back and forth in her arms, pacing quietly around the room as she sang to her little son.

And I wish on all the rainbows that I see
I wish on all the people who really dream
And I'm wishing on tomorrow praying never comes
And I'm wishing on all the loving we've never done

She was warm, a comforting embrace that would always protect him from hurt and all the bad things in the world.

I never thought I'd see
A time when you would be
So far away from home
So far away from me

She was like a mother dragon, defender of her nest and nurturer of her young. He yawned and she lightly tickled his belly, earning a sleepy giggle.

Just think of all the moments that we'd spent
I just can't let you go from me you were meant
And I didn't mean to hurt but I know
That in the game of love you reap what you sow

He yawned again and his dark purple eyes drifted shut, tiny hand curling in front of his mouth. She continued to sing, gently rocking him back and forth, back and forth.

I'm wishing on a star
To follow where you are
I'm wishing on a dream
To follow what it means

She quietly paced up to his cradle and gently set him down, still singing and covering him with a warm, fluffy white blanket with a smattering of silver stars on it.

And I wish on all the rainbows that I see
And I wish on all the people we've ever been
And I'm hoping on all the days to come and days to go
And I'm hoping on days of loving you so

She kissed her forehead and gently nudged the cradle and it began to sway back and forth gently.

I'm wishing on a star
I'm wishing on all the rainbows that I see
I'm wishing on a star…

She quietly put out the light of the nursery and softly closed the door partially behind her, leaving her little son to sleep in contented dreams.

Lullaby is “Wishing on a Star” by Miriam Stockley. Not mine, I just love it.
