The Gift

While Annaara gathered her stuff for the morning classes, she kept glancing around for Yugi and Tea, being as she had first period with them. Not spotting them, she continued grabbing her things. Then without warning, someone grabbed her shoulder quickly. She let out a small yelp and turned around to see Tristan laughing his head off. Attempting to catch her breath and calm down, she playfully whacked him up-side the head.

"Why did you do that?" Annaara demanded. "You completely freaked me out, Tristan!" She glared at him and he glared back. For only about ten seconds did this hold, ending with Tristan cracking up. Checking the time and realizing she would be late, Annaara hurried off to class leaving Tristan to collect himself. Just as she was sitting down in her assigned seat, the bell rang signaling class has begun. Today the class was just working on their presentations. When she and Yugi paired up and arranges their desks for working, Annaara presented a few ideas for their model.

"I thought up some ideas for that model we have to do," she said, handing him the paper. He read the few ideas and looked over the sketches, Looking up at her he said, "These are great, Annaara. We just have to decide which one to do."

"We could do that at my house. My mother and father were wondering if you wanted to come over for dinner tonight?" asked Annaara as she pulled out her notes and pencil.

"That sounds fine with me," Yugi accepted as he too pulled out his notes.

"What about our oral presentation?" asked Yugi.

"What should we include in it?"

"Well, we could include the dynasties and the writing system," Yugi thought aloud.

"Also the religion," added Annaara. "I know all about it."

"That sounds good to me," agreed Yugi. "Why don't we start on one section and get any information about that that we want to present?"

"That might be easier than randomly doing stuff," Annaara commented. "How about starting with the religion? That would be simple enough to do."

For the rest of the class period, the two worked diligently on their presentation and was nearly complete when the bell rang. Once they got outside the class room, they said 'see ya at lunch' and took off for their next classes. For Annaara, time seemed to drag on. In science (which she had with Joey), She was slightly distracted by Joey pulling off some bizarre antics such as making faces and pretending to fall asleep, in which he hit his head on the desk when doing so. Hard. Annarra would've laughed out loud had the science teacher not been so strict about that kind of stuff. Luckily the bell had rung and as soon as she was out, she started to laugh. "You really need to be careful, Joey, or you'll break the desk!" Joey muttered something under his breath but Annaara didn't heard and could care less. At the lunch room, she greeted the gang with more than a simple 'hi'.

"Hey you guys!" she said in a cheery voice. "What's up?"

"Nothing really," said Tea. "We were just waiting for everyone to show up for lunch."

"I would agree to that one," Joey put in wryly. "Anyway, Yuge, did you see that poster for that upcoming tournament?" Yugi turned and shook his head 'no'. Joey continued, "Well, it is a month from tomorrow, but they are starting to register for the next two weeks. It looks like Kaiba may be hosting this one, since they are using the duel disks for half the tournament."

"I take it that both of you are going to enter?" Tristan asked, even though he already knew the answer coming at him. "Yes!" exclaimed the two friends in unison.

"Just curious, but what is this tournament for anyway?" Annaara asked with a look of bafflement upon her face.

"It's a Duel Monsters tournament," Tea explained. "It's where many duelists enter and compete against each other. You should watch Yugi and Joey duel. They are great." She looked at Joey then added in a teasing voice, "Well, at least Yugi is!"

"Hey!" Joey objected. "You guys are supposed to be supporting me, and besides I am not that bad." Annaara considered what Tea just said then told them, "I would love to come and watch you guys duel. I have nothing else better to do other than clean the house."

"I wonder is Mai is entering?" Joey thought, not realizing he had spoken out loud. Quickly he added, "Well, she is a good duelist!" Everyone just laughed, while Tea grew a slightly cold glare his way.

"Mother, I'm home!" Annaara cried as she walked through the door. Her mother walked over to her. "How was your day?"

"Fine, thank you," she replied.

"When was your friend coming over?" asked Antra while leading Annaara to the living room.

"He'll be over later. He had to help his grandfather with his shop."

"Oh, a package came in today from Uncle Sabashi," Antra stated as she picked up a small, square package the size of a tissue box. "Go on and open it." And so Annaara did. It was a box with many hieroglyphics and pictures of different goddesses like Isis and Bast. Inside the box lay a cloth. When she unrolled the cloth, a necklace fell out. It was a pendent with a symbol Eye of Horus. She picked it up and examined it more closely. It was a silver pendent the size of a coin with the Eye of Horus deeply engraved. Something about the eye made Annaara think about Yugi and his pyramid shaped necklace. Why would Uncle Sabashi send me an old pendent with the Eye of Horus on it? Annaara thought. Why would he bother sending me a gift like this in the first place? He never really thought much of me when I was younger. And he also hates my father. Why?

"What is it?" her mother asked curiously, breaking her train of thoughts.

"Oh, it's a pendent with the Eye of Horus on engraved on it," She answered in a tone that resembled cheery.

"That's nice. You should wear it," Antra said. "It would look good on you."

"Maybe…" Annaara trailed of into her own thoughts.
