Endless Blue

Yami watched as the waterfall cascaded into the curving stream, frothing as it hit. Rainbows reflected off the water as the bright sunlight struck. The river ran over rocks and pebbles. The water was fresh and so clear you could see the shallow bottom.

The foliage was green, a light blooming green. The air was crisp and warm. The spring sky was a flawless blue.

The sky…it was just like his eyes.

Only his eyes were about a shade or two darker. Perfect. Nothing like it could ever be found.

Yami loved those eyes. The perfect shade of blue. But they would never look upon him with the love he looked up them with.

Only with dislike, competition and faint respect. But not love.

And that was what hurt. The longing and the knowledge that it would never be fulfilled.

He tried to drive his feelings down, bury them. But every time he saw Seto, his heart would jump, the feelings resurfacing faster than he could stop it.

Yami stared at his reflection in the water. A sad smile played across his lips, his crimson eyes reflecting sorrow.

He'd seen the tenderness that Seto was capable of. With Mokuba and with……

If only Seto could be like that with him. Yami would even be content with a smile, a simple smile.

Of course, it was all a fantasy, a hope. A wish that would never become true.

Yami kicked a pebble, watching as it skidded three times on the water's surface before sinking to the bottom.

It had taken him so long. Over two years to admit that he was in love with him, that he was in love with Seto Kaiba, his rival.

Yami didn't know why he loved him. He just did, it was something that he couldn't control. If he could have controlled it, he would never have fallen for Seto.

As he walked along the stream, he heard soft words coming from further downstream. When he walked a little further, he spotted the unmistakable crop of brown.

His heart skipped a beat, but sunk when he noticed the white haired youth.

Yami sighed, watching the gentle scene.

Seto and Ryou were having a quiet moment, a private picnic in the woods. They were talking softly. Every now and then, they exchange gentle kisses.

Both were smiling. Yami noticed the tenderness on Seto's face. And the light shining in his eyes as he looked at Ryou. Even though their whispers were soft, Yami could still hear the love in Seto's voice.

Ra, he envied Ryou. But in a way…he was happy for them. They were both happy. And if they were happy, he couldn't break them apart with his selfish wants.

A gentle hand touched Yami's shoulder. He turned around, and saw Yuugi.

Yami gave him a faded smile. Yuugi noticed the couple, who were oblivious to everyone but each other.

Yuugi nodded his understanding, giving him a sympathetic look, gently tugging Yami away from the scene.

Yami followed without resistance.

They arrived at the waterfall once again. The small hikari turned to his dark. Wordlessly he gave Yami a tight hug.

"Aibou…?" Yami questioned slightly confused.

"You're too selfless for your own good, Yami." Yuugi whispered before walking away.

Yami was left alone with his thoughts again.

He laid down on a large rock by the stream and stared at the endless blue of the sky.

"At least you're happy, Seto. At least you're happy." Those words were lost in the noise of water hitting water.
