Engulfed in Shadows
Chapter Six
by Ravenx

“Its defiantly in there.” Brennan is pulled back from the door leading to the pool by Ryou.

“Don't get too close.”

“Lets see what's behind door number one.” Marik slowly opens the white door, lights
automatically flip on, shining brightly off the white and blue tiles.

The four Majestics move into the room first, followed closely by their mates and the three remaining kids. All eyes are searching around the room for any signs of movement.

“Brennan, are you sure it was down here?” Seto's hand reaches behind him to grasp onto Joey's.

“It still is.”

“But where? I don't see anything.” Yugi stays right behind Yami, his arms holding Adrian tightly to his body.

“I think I found it.” Marik stands by the pool.

The usual crystal clear water is pitch black, the glossy surface shines in the light from above.

“What happened to the pool?” Malik sneaks a peak around Marik.

“It doesn't look like water.” Raia walks to the side of the pool, bending down on one knee he reaches a hand out.

“Don't! Raia, get away from it.” Malik yells to his son.

Raia nods his head, starting to stand up until a thick black tentacle like object shoots out of the pool and wraps around the pale blonde's wrist.

“Dad! Fath…” Raia yells as he is pulled into the black substance, the surface remaining still as he disappears.

“Raia!” Malik runs to the side where his son was, Marik close behind him. “Raia! No, please no.” Malik reaches out to the black liquid but is stopped by his mate.

“Don't. I don't want to loose you too.”

“But…but…Raia.” Malik stands up, burying his head in Marik's shirt as he cries.

“We'll get him back.” The pale blonde vampire rubs his lover's back gently while dark violet eyes watch the pool area.

“Wait.” All eyes turn to the smallest mate hiding behind Yami. “I…I know this.” With out anything more, Yugi turns around and runs out the door and up the stairs.

“Little one? Yugi?” Yami runs to the door before turning back. “Okay, Seto, Marik, you guys stay here and watch the pool. Just don't go near it. The rest of you come with me.”

“I'm staying here.” Malik cries.

“Me too.” Joey steps closer to his mate, his head falling onto his shoulder.

“Okay, just everyone else come on. I don't want Yugi out of my sight for long.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
̶ 0;Yugi? Where are you? Yugi?” Yami runs down the hall of their sons' rooms, his nose held high in the air as he smells out his lover.
“I'm in here.”
Yami is the first one into Akira, Brayden, and Raia's bedroom. Right behind him is Bakura, Ryou, and Brennan. Once in the green room they find the smallest mate on Raia's bed looking through books, Adrian sitting beside him holding a book in his small lap.
“Little one, don't run off like that. You had me worried.” Yami sits down next to his mate, his arms wrapping around him.
“I'm sorry, Yami, but I remember something from one of these books that might be useful.”
“What?”
“I can't remember it exactly but its in one of these books.” Yugi puts down the book he was reading and picks up another one.
“How do you know it has something to do with this?” Ryou sits down on the end of Akira's bed, Brennan sitting next to him while Bakura stands beside them.
“It had something to do with the mansion. I thought it was interesting so I was going to ask Yami about it later but then all this started happening and I forgot.” Yugi flicks through the old pages of a book before stopping. “Here. This is it.” He hands the open book to his mate.
“What is it?” Bakura asks Yami.
“A demon that lives in the mountains?”
“No, not that. The other page, The Shadows of Daron.” Yugi points to the right passage.
“What's that?” Ryou takes hold of his son's hand.
“It says this mansion belonged to a man named Daron. He…kept to himself.” Yami's dark purple eyes scan over the page. “He liked the darkness. No one liked to come to his place because…anyone who came was never seen again. No one knows what he did to them…their bodies were never found.”
“That guy lived here?” Ryou snuggles into his son's side.
“Yeah, according to this about…three thousand years ago.”
“What happened to him?” Brennan looks over at the tri-colored vampire.
“One of the victims had a…sister that was a witch. She cast a spell on him…it doesn't say what spell but it killed him in a sense.”
“In a sense?” Bakura lifts an eyebrow.
“He was never heard from again in her time. The mansion remained deserted for several hundred years…then…people forgot about Daron and they started to live here again. But no one knew that the spell had kind of a loop in it.”
“A loop?” Ryou's light brown eyes watch Yami read through a couple pages.
“Yeah, it looks like every thousand years Daron came back…sort of. It says he was never seen but people would disappear in the span of two weeks never to be seen again.”
“But why?” Bakura moves closer to his loved ones.
“Lets see…it always leaves some people behind, only taken ones that will be missed because…it feeds off of the sadness the ones left behind give off.”
“That's why it took our kids. It knew we would cry over them.” Yugi sniffles.
“So we have to wait for two weeks to pass?” Bakura brushes a hand through Ryou's soft hair.
“No, if we wait that long then the kids will no longer exist.”
“Then what are we suppose to do?” Ryou leans into Bakura's touch.
“There's a spell here. If we recite it then the boys should return to us and Daron's spirit will leave the mansion forever.” Yami points toward a passage in the book.
“What do we need?” Bakura ask.
“Four large, black candles and a drop of blood from all those who have lost the ones they love.” Yami looks up.
“Well, the blood part we can handle but where are we getting black candles?”
“I have some.” Brennan looks around. “Me and Athan got them a while back. We like lighting them and watching the flames.”
“You three stop by Brennan and Athan's room to get the candles. We'll go on to the pool and inform the others what we have to do.” Yami stands up with the book in hand.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“Okay, all candles lit.” Seto looks around at all four corners of the darkened pool where the large black candles sit.

“Now we all have to put a drop of our blood in this bowl.” Yami holds out an old, dark wooden bowl.

“Does that include Adrian?” Yugi watches as Bakura pulls out a small dagger, the sharp tip shining in the light.

“Yeah but its only a little prick. Okay, honey?” Yami runs his hand through his grandson's thick hair.

“Okay, grampy.”

“So, whose first?” Bakura waves the dagger around.

“I'll go.” Joey takes the dagger from the white haired vampire and cuts the tip of his finger, clenching his teeth he lets the drop of blood fall into the bowl Yami holds.

Taking the silver knife from his lover, Seto draws his blood and lets it join Joey's before wiping the tip clean and handing it to Marik. The pale blonde looks down at his squirming mate.

“What's wrong, kitten?”

“I really don't want to cut myself.”

“It isn't that bad, Malik.” Joey says as he wipes a small drop of blood on his shirt.

“You do it for me, Marik.” Shoving his finger out to Marik, Malik turns his head and squeezes his eyes as he feels the sharp blade cut into his finger.

“There, that wasn't that bad now was it?” Marik kisses the top of his mate's head before cutting his finger and letting the dark red drop fall into the bowl. Wiping the blade clean he holds it out to Yugi.

“Uh, Yami can you do it? I can't with Adrian.”

“I'll take him.” Joey steps forward.

“Alright.” Yugi hands his grandson to his best friend, taking the dagger he closes his eyes and cuts the tip of his finger over the bowl. “Ouch. Come here, sweetie, Grammie has to get a little bit of your blood.”

The small sandy blonde holds out his little hand, tucking his head under Joey's chin he whimpers as his finger is cut.

“Sorry, sweetie.” Yugi gives the dagger to his mate as he tries to help Joey sooth their grandson.

“Marik, here, hold the bowl and book for a second.” After Yami cuts his finger he wipes the dagger on his shirt, handing it over to Ryou and taking the book and bowl back.

“I'm so not looking forward to this.” Ryou's hand shakes as he lifts the tip of the dagger to his finger, groaning as it pierces his skin. “Here, baby.” He hands Brennan the dagger after a drop of blood falls into the bowl, Bakura takes his hand and sucks his bloody finger.

“Bakura.” Yami snaps.

“What?” Bakura growls around his mate's thin finger.

“Don't do that in front of the others.”

Rolling his eyes Bakura release Ryou's finger from his lips and watches his son's blood drip into the old bowl. Taking the dagger from Brennan, he cuts his finger and watches his blood join the others.

“Now what?” Malik stares at the two white haired vampires who suck their bleeding fingers.

“According to the book I'll say the spell three times and then throw the bowl into the pool.” Yami opens the book to the correct page.

“And that will work?” Marik asks.

“It should if this book is right.”

“Lets hurry up and find out. I want my sons back.” Yugi, now holding Adrian again, stands aside as Yami moves closer to the pool.

“Here goes nothing. Darkness breed into light. Cast thee evil spirit out of sight. Never dare to return here. So no longer we live in fear. I demand you return the ones you took from us.”

The lights flicker as the black substance in the pool seems to come alive, waves ripple across the surface. A low wailing sound bounces off the walls, causing the mates to step closer to their loved ones.

“Darkness breed into light. Cast thee evil spirit…” A tentacle shoots out of the black pool and shoves Yami across the room into the door.

“Yami!” Yugi holds Adrian tighter as the lights go completely out, the candles the only light left in the room.

“Cast thee evil spirit out of sight. Never dare to return here. So no longer we live in fear. I demand you return the ones you took from us.” Yami gets to his feet, the bowl of blood clutched tightly in his hands.

Malik hides behind Marik as dozens of black tentacles jump out of the pool and thrash around. Yugi moves behind the bar with his grandson while Joey and Seto press up against the wall. Ryou yelps as a tentacle hits his chest causing him to fall back into Brennan, both topple to the cold tile floor. Bakura stands in front of his family, his dark brown eyes watching for any more dangers to them.

“Darkness breed into light.” The bowl falls from Yami's hands as two tentacles pin him to the door. “Cast thee evil spirit…out of sight. Never dare to return here.” He groans in pain as the black substance digs into his shoulders. “I demand you return…return the ones you took from us. Someone throw the bowl into the pool!”

Seto runs toward the old, wooden bowl by Yami's feet only to be thrown into the bar by a flying tentacle.

“Seto!” Joey runs to his mate, ducking under one of the black limbs of the substance. “Seto! Dragon! Please be okay.”

“I'm fine, puppy.” Seto moans as he tries to sit up, his hands going to his side.

“No you're not.” Joey kneels by his lover his honey brown eyes looking behind him.

Marik and Malik are pushed up against the side wall by two tentacles. Yugi remains behind the bar trying to protect his grandson. Bakura makes a run for the bowl only to be grabbed around his waist.

“Let go you son of bitch!”

“I can't believe I'm doing this.” Ryou says before running past his mate and grabbing the bowl from the floor near Yami's feet.

“Ryou, watch out!” Joey yells in time for the white haired mate to dodge to the left as a tentacle crashes down.

Ryou makes a run for the pool, but the tentacle that crashed down next to him grabs his ankle. Tripping, he keeps a hold of the bowl making sure none of its contents spill.

“Dad! The bowl!” Brennan is being pulled toward the pool by a slow moving tentacle.

“Brennan!”

“Slide the bowl to me, I'll take it with me.”

Ryou does as his son tells him, the bowl easily slides over the tile floor and into Brennan's hands just as he is pulled completely into the black pool area. The wailing stops as suddenly as it began, the tentacles seeming to get sucked back into the pool. The over head lights spring back to life as the glowing around the pool increases.

“Did it work?” Malik ask from the comfort of his mate's arms.

“Brennan.” Ryou cries onto the cool tile as Bakura leans over him, rubbing his back gently.

“Look!” Joey watches as the black substance in the pool starts to whirl around, the edges slowly turning back to the crystal clear water that once filled it.

“I think it worked.” Yami walks toward the now clear pool.

“Dad!” Brennan's head pops out of the water, his hands frantically searching for the side of the pool.

“Brennan! Oh, baby, here.” Ryou crawls to the edge of the pool, Bakura right behind him. They both help pull their soaking wet son out. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, just peachy.”

“Don't worry about me. Just leave me floating here.”

“Athan!” Ryou smiles as his oldest son swims up beside his brother.

“Get me out of here.” Bakura easily pulls his other twin up to sit by his brother.

“Daddy?” Kurai's tri-colored head looks around the room.

“Kurai! Oh, honey.” Yugi runs to the side of the pool closest to his son, Yami right behind him.

“Let me help you, little man.” Akira picks up his little brother and hands him up to his father, he quickly pulls himself up.

“Mikado, over here!” Yugi calls to his son at the other end of the water.

“What happened?”

“That's what we'd like to know.” Hikaru and Zemti start to swim along side Mikado.

“It's a long story.” Malik instantly wraps his arms around his wet son as soon as Zemti is out of the pool.

“Father, a little help.” Brayden tries to get out of the pool, only to keep falling back down.

“Sorry, sweetie, but I think your father has broke some ribs.” Joey bends down, running a hand through his son's thick brown hair. “I was so worried about you.” Honey colored eyes look around him for the nearest Majestic. “Marik, can you help Brayden?”

“Sure.” Marik bends down and pulls the tall vampire out of the water, sitting him on his feet by his dad who takes him into a hug.

“Now can you help me?” Raia smiles up at his father.

“I don't know about that.” Marik smirks only to be hit in the arm.

“Get our son out of that water so I can hug him.” Malik growls, his hand not letting go of Zemti's.

“Okay, okay, I'm going.”

“Poppy! Poppa!” Adrian squirms out of Yugi's grip and runs to the other side of the pool where Drake and Saiai are climbing out.

“Oh, baby boy!” Saiai picks up his son, holding him tightly to his wet chest.

“How you been good for everybody?” Drake kisses his son's sandy blonde hair.

“Yep. Where were you? I missed you.” Adrian's small arms wrap around Saiai's neck, his head tucking under the tall Destroyer's chin.

“Drake! Oh, baby, I was so scared.” Joey's thin arms wrap around Drake from behind.

“Hey, dad. Its okay. I'm fine.” Turning around Drake hugs his dad back. “Where's father?”

“I think he broke some ribs. Brayden is with him now.” Joey points to the bar where Seto is propped up, Brayden sitting next to him, the two talking quietly.

“Saiai, I'm going to go see my father and Brayden. Okay?”

“Sure, honey. I was going to go see my parents and brothers too.” The two vampires kiss before separating.

“What was down there?” Ryou leans back into Bakura's chest, his arms wrapped around his sons whose heads are resting on his shoulders.

“It was just dark.”

“And cold.”

“I'm so glad all of you are alright.” The white haired mate kisses his son's on their heads.

“I think I had enough of the pool for a while.” Athan smiles as he watches the others welcoming back their sons.

“I'm with you there.” Brennan giggles.
