Summary: On a lonely road to nowhere in particular, shame and lust can overcome someone...

A/N: This is for the few Mai/Varon fans on Mediaminer. Enjoy.

EVIDENCE

It was a dark night in Domino. The streets were empty, save for a few wanderers looking for trouble and one car speeding down the highway. The driver, Mai Kujaku, decided to go for a drive to clear her head. It was only until she turned on the radio that her plans were thwarted. A song with chimes was playing. Mai immediately recognized the song.

"This was playing...that night...when I..."

FLASHBACK

She screamed and tilted her head back as pleasure over took her. She'd lost all sense of time, space, pain and remorse, and of memory. She knew she had to control herself. If anyone else in Dartz's citadel overheard, it could mean being kicked out- or worse.

You have eyes that Lead me on
and a Body that shows me Death
Your Lips look like they were made
For something else but
They just Suck my Breath

"What was that?" Mai whispered into her lover's ear.

The two stopped in their carnal activities to listen in. "It's nothing," Valon replied.

Then the sin of lust resumed its crash course.

END FLASHBACK

Since then, Doom had disbanded, and Mai had not seen Valon in months. She looked over to the side and saw that there was a motorcycle that oddly resembled his in the parking lot of some hotel. Reluctantly, she pulled into the lot, parked, and got out of the car.

The song on the radio could be heard nearby. She wandered toward when the motorcycle was parked and the music got louder. Now Mai could hear the lyrics more clearly.

I Want your Pain
to taste why You're Ashamed
and I know You're not just what you Say to me
and I'm not the Only moment You're made of

There was only one room with the lights on: room 202. With all of Mai's mental strength, she knocked on the door three times. Within seconds, she could hear someone fumbling with the lock and opening the door.

"I already told you I don't need a damn maid..." Valon started saying as he opened the door, but when crystal blue eyes met royal purple, the former widened. The latter softened with relief.

You're so sudden and sweet
All legs, knuckle, knees
Head's blown clean off
Your mouth's paid off
Fuck me 'til we know it's Unsafe
and we'll paint
over the Evidence

"Mai...what are you doing here?" The brunette asked.

"Well, to put it shortly, I haven't seen you since Doom disbanded and-" Mai was cut off.

"Say no more. Come in." Valon opened the door as Mai stepped in to the small room. He either hadn't been here long or was about to leave; his suitcase was open, but all of the contents inside were folded and organized.

I want you Wanting me
I want what I see in Your eyes
so Give me something to be Scared of
don't give me something to Satisfy

"I just rolled into town about sunset," said Valon, answering Mai's first question. "You see, I've kinda been thinking about...that night...for a while."
Then he stared at the small clock-radio on the nightstand. "Oh, the song? I'll turn it off it you want."

"No, just turn it down a bit." Valon turned down the radio and Mai sighed. "I've been thinking about that, too."

"Thinking about what? Oh, yeah. What could have been, huh?" Valon stretched his arm behind his head.

"What still is, huh?" Mai shot back.

You're so sudden and sweet
All legs, knuckle, knees
Head's blown clean off
Your mouth's paid off
Fuck me 'til we know it's Unsafe
and we'll paint
over the Evidence

"Mai, what are you talking about?" Valon was curious. "I thought you were with the blonde idiot."

"Oh God, no!" Mai laughed. "I mean, he is a good friend, but that's as far as I'll let it go. As for you, well, you're different."

"How so?"

I Want your Pain
to taste why You're Ashamed
and I know You're not just what you Say to me
and I'm not the Only moment You're made of

"Well, before we met, I was a wreck. I felt underappreciated and like I didn't matter. Like no one cared. So much so, I thought about...well, leaving, so to speak."

Valon's eyes grew wide. "You didn't."

"I tried, but never succeeded." Mai smiled. "But I guess it's a good thing I didn't, because then I never would have met you, much less fallen in love with you."

You're so sudden and sweet
All legs, knuckle, knees
Head's blown clean off
Your mouth's paid off
Fuck me 'til we know it's Unsafe
and we'll paint
over the Evidence

"Valon, I don't want to paint over evidence anymore."
