A/N: Well, I'm sorry to the two or three people that have actuallty read this fic that I didn't update as soon as I expected, but hey, what could you expect from an NC-17 fic that doesn't have anything juicy in it yet, right? Well, anyways, I've been super busy and I've kinda let this one slip by the wayside, but I intend to finish it someday. Anyways, here's about the first half of the first chapter. It's not completeed yet and it kinda stops right in the middle, but I felt I needed to post something for my quarter-dozen loyal fans.

Yugi gave a sigh of satisfaction. It was finally over. All of that madness from the wrechid soul-stealing maniac Pegasus was behind him and he could finally get back to being a normal kid. In many ways he could actually sympathize with Pegasus. He had stolen his Grandfather's soul and that was unforgivable, but his motives where pure enough. All he really wanted was his love back... Still, the ends don't justify the means, and so he had gotten what he deserved.

He began to wonder though if it was actually over. Shaddi had said that there was more evil on the way afterall. Finally he decided it was best not to think about it. For now he just wanted to enjoy his peace, his hard earned freedom.

"What's on your mind?" Anzu asked. She had noticed that despite his victory, he still seemed unnerved.

"Oh, nothing" Yugi replied, not looking up. They had been walking twards what they had hoped would be the way off the island for quite some time now. Yugi had spent almost the entire time not paying attention to anything going on around him. He couldn't help but feel that something or someone much worse than Pegasus was just around the corner. Would he be ready when it came? He gave a dark laugh. Yes, it was a matter of "when", not "if".

"Don't be like that." Anzu said playfully. "You should be happy, we got your grampa's soul back and we can finally get off this island"

Yugi looked up at her and gave her a fake smile. "Sorry, I guess I've just had a lot on my mind recently" He looked back down and once again forgot about his friends.

Anzu sighed. She wish she had some idea what was going on with him. Why had he been so mysterious recently? She wished he wouldopen up and tell her what was on his mind. She had alwyays been a confidant before, but something had changed now. She could see it in his eyes. He had lost so much of his innocence. He had been trough so much... She considered telling him this but thought better of it. She figured that it was best just to leave him to his thoughts.

Honda and Jounouchi where in front, followed closly by Ryou and Solomon. Yugi and Azu where in the back and starting to fell behind because Yugi wasn't looking up very much. The group kept walking for about another quarter mile when...

"What was that?" Jounouchi asked, stopping and signaling for the others to do the same.

"What was what?" Honda asked. "I didn't see anything"

"I heard a noise, like someone rustling in the bushes" He replied expertly

"Ohhhh, I think we're being followed" Honda said sarcasticly "It was probably just a rabbit or something"

'Oh boy' Anzu thought 'here we go..."

"Maybe..." Jounouchi said, skepticly.

"Hey look, it's our own personal sleuth" Honda mocked, "Where did you learn to be a detective?"

Jounouchi was about to retaliate, but before he could a dark figure jumped out from behind a tree and as face to face with him in under two seconds.

"Arghhh!" Jounouhi cried as he fell over backwards from surprise.

"Whoa!" Honda yelled "I guess you where right. Who are you?"

"I'm glad to see your concern for my well being Honda" Jounouchi shot as he got back up.

"I seek Yugi Mouto" the cloaked figue said simply, as though nothing had just happened.

"What is your name?" Yugi piped up. He had walked up to the front to face the stranger.

"That is not important" He said bluntly "What's important, is that you are in danger."

"What?" Honda asked "What are you talking about?"

"I was not speaking to you naive" He said rudely "I am here to talk to the holder of the millenium puzzle"

Yami talked to Yugi through their mind link "Yugi, I sense something from this man. Please let me Speak with him.

"Okay" Yugi said back through the mind link. The process was an odd one. Thier minds passed by eachother. As Yami's mind came out of his soul room, Yugi's was pulled into his, and for just a moment they were one being. Their minds seperated again and went to their respectful places.

Yugi's stronger side spoke more forcefully. "State your business here or be on your way." he commanded

"Pharaoh!" he shouted in surprise. He almost half expected to be punished immediately, forgetting for a moment the ancient rulers comlete amnesia.

"Huh? What are you talking about now?" he asked suspiciously, unaware of his past and fate.

"Nevermind" he said cooly, regaining his calm compoursure. "I am here to send you a message. In less than a year you will be attacked by a great evil". He cringed slightly at his own words. He had already said to much. If his master knew what he was doing, he would surely suffer a fate that would make him beg for death.He couldn't, however, show any weakness. If he was going to successfully test the would-be hero he would need to test his stamana as well as his skill.

Yami wanted to know more, "What evil do you speak of?" he interrogated "Who sent you?"

"Where I came from doesn't matter" he held his position. There was no reason for them to know any more about him "What does matter, is the fact that in less than a year, he will come for you."

Yami was begining to get annoyed at the cloaked man's vaugeness "Who will come? How do you know all this?"

"You keep asking the wrong questions" He replied "As I have already said, my place in this ordeal is not important. As for this evil, he is a sorcerer who is looking for a great power. As of right now, he cannot challenge you, but soon he will control a force that you cannot even comprehend"

Everyone else just stood and watched during this whole conversation. Anzu couldn't believe what she was hearing. Hadn't Yugi just gotten out of a conflict with a manaic? Didn't he deserve some peace for a change? She almost laughed at herself. There was always the possibly that this man was just flat out lying. If fact, about a year ago, she would have just assumed that, but after all she had seen this story wasn't hard to believe.

Yami continued his interrogation "Why are you telling me this? And why can we not just stop this sorcerer before he gains this awesome power?"

"Because he is not of this realm." he said simply "There is nothing you can do to stop him. He must come to you"

"Oh, that's real reassuring" Jounouchi whispered under his breath. "we can't stop him until he tries to kill us"

The man continued "The reason I am here is because I believe thatyou deserve a chance to fight back"

"I'm touched" Yami said sarcasticly "Why are you really here?"

"Getting right to the point I see." He grinned. The Pharaoh may have lost his memory, but he certianly hadn't lost his touch. "Very well then, I came here to test your skills. I mst see if you are ready to face the Shadow game trials again."

"What?" He said, slightly shocked. The fact that this man new of the shadow games said a lot about the validity of his story. "So, you know of the shadow games."

"Yes, and the time has come to test your skill" he said with a smirk. With a wave of his hand the surrounding area was enclosed in a dark black fog. It not only coated the immediate area, but it also sucked you into it's evil.

Anzu could feel the darkness surrounding her, pounding into her heart and tearing through her very soul. I was a horoble feeling, like she was being beaten mentally. It was cold, like an icicle had been shoot through her brain but had somehow managed not to kill her. She looked around and saw that Solomon Jounouchi and Honda were all suffering too. If she had been paying more sttention, she would have noticedthat Ryou was nowhere to be seen.

A tree stump shot out of the ground in front of both Yami and the cloaked man with dueling spaces on them. "You!" Yami shouted in anger "I don't know who are are or why your doing this, but leave my friends out of it!"

"I thought only People with Millenium items could initiate a shadow game" Yugi said to Yami via his mind link

"He must have one under his cloak somewhere" Yami explained "but what's important right now is keeping the others safe. There is no reason for the to be a part of this." And then out loud he said "I will not duel you until my friends are freed" He knew it was an empty threat and so did his opponent. If he needed to, he would do anything to ensure their security.

"Very well" he gave. He had intended to release them anyway, but not until witnesing some of the Pharaoh's infamous rage. With another wave of his had he realised Yugi's frends from th spell of the shadow realm, but not the shadow realm.

"They are still here!" he yelled in frustration

"They will be fine" he pasiively "I have realeased them from the pain the the shadoe realm, but I wouldn't want them to miss the fun"

Yami accepted the comprimise "Fine" he said crossing his arms. "Let's just get this over with"

Yugi: 2000 Mysterious Man: 2000

"You may go first" The cloaked man said.

Without responding, Yami drew his hand. "I play celtic guardian in attack mode" he proclaimed as he laid down the card. The elven warrior appearedon his side of the field.

Celtic Guardian: 1400/1200

Yugi noticed that there weren't any hologram projectors and wondered if maybe the monsters were real. "Yami, what's going on? How did that monster appear?"

Yami realized that Yugi had only witnessed one shadow game in his life so far. He had been unconscience for the other two that he was present for. "Don't be firghtened aibou. The monsters here are real but we are not in danger. I will not allow us to lose"

His enemy drew a card "it's not like you to make such a rash move without backing yourself up, Yami"

Yami was surprised that he knew his name, but it did not phase him. Usually when he was dueling, his opponents just caled him Yugi because that's how they knew him best. It didn't make a difference to him though, a name is just a name. "Are you going to converse or are you going to duel?" he commanded.

"Fair enough" he said drawing his next card. "I play meshid the for faced beast in attack mode"

Melchid the four faced beast: 1500/1200

"Now I'll attack your monster" he said as the monster shot a fireball out of oneof it's many faces, incinerating the sword wielding elf in flames.

Yugi could feel the heat through his mind link and it scared him. If it could feel that, what would happen if he attacked with a tronger monster? He didn't even want to think about it

Yugi: 1900

"Now I'll put one card face down and end my turn"

Yami was pleased that his planned had worked. He payed a mere 100 life points to leave his opponent wide open. "I'll play one card face down, ad then I'll summon Gaia the fierce knight in attack mode"

Gaia the fierce knight: 2300/2100

"Attack" He cried. The lance wieling soldier rushed twords his enemy on his horse.

"I activate Rioku. This card takes half of the attack points from your monster and adds them to my monster" He said as if it was the plainist thing in the world

"I activate De-spell, to negate you magic card. So my knight will not lose any strength" he said as the knight continued his charge twors the spell caster. It's spears made contact and tore through it like tissue paper.

Mysterious Man: 1300

Yami's enemy was ammused but not impressed.This small victory meant nothing in the grand scheme of things.

He drew for his next turn. He didn't have any monsters in his hand strong enough to defeat Gaia, but he defently hand to magic cards to turn things around. "I'll, put one monster in defence mode, and play one card face down to end my turn"

Yami drew to start his turn. Didn't want to risk attacking while his opponent had a face down card, but he really didn't have much of a choice. "Gaia, atack his face down monster" The warrior obeyed and charged towards his next victim.

"I activate creature swap" he yelled with satisfaction "Now, we each take control of one of our opponents monsters" The man's face down card went to Yugi's side of the field while the Knight continued to charge at it, but this time in the opposite direction. He cut through the monster and right before it was destroyed it showed up as the Magical Ghost.

Yami mentally kicked himself. How could he let this have happened? He still didn't know what was riding on this game. The rules of the shadow game often varied. "I'll out one monster face down and end my turn" He said wryly.

His opponent took his turn very quickly. "I place one card face down and then attack." he said simply as Yugi's once loyal monster slayed his face down Feral Imp.

"Come on deck" Yami said to himself as he drew "Don't fail me now" He looked at his newly drawn card and gave a smile. "I'll play silver fang in attack mode."

Silver Fang: 1200/800

"Now I will play the mystial moon" An almost perfect replica of the moon shot out of the ground. If someone didn't now it was a card, they'd think the moon was actually out in the middle of the day. "This will double the attack points of my beast"

Silver Fang: 2400/1600

"Now, destroy Gaia" Yami said, hoping his opponent couldn't counter with his face down card. Luckily, his attack was successful and the once faithful knight was destroyed.

Mysterious Man: 1200

This duel isn't over yet" he said calmly as he drew his next card. "I play pot of greed, which allows me to draw two new cards" He did just that and gave a weak laugh. "I'll play the Skull Knight to tear down your wolf"

Skull Knight: 2650

"Destroy his monster" The srmoured skeleton knight raised it's giant sword and slashed down, cutting the wolf in half before it's pieces were scattered to the wind.

Yugi: 1650

"He's strong, but I've seen better" Yami said confidently.

"I'm sure you have" His opponent agreed smugly.

Yami drew again. "I will play swords of revealing light and end my turn" The light swords covered the field, preventing his foe's monster from moving.

"You talk of power yet you merely stall for three turns. Where is the power of the famous Yugi Mouto?" The cloaked man said dauntingly. After all, half of duel monsters was psycology. However, this was part of the reason Yami was so good at it, so such cheap little tricks would not work on him.

"Save your breath" He replied without making eye contact "I will not be so easily intimidated"

"I'd expect no less from the king of games" The he said out loud to himself. He drew his next card. "I play one more card face down and end my turn"

Yami was in a tight spot. His opponent had two face down carda and a powerful monster, while he had nothing but the swords of revealing light. He ha been in much wrse places though, any there were many cards that could get him out of this one. He drew and played Pot of greed. Then, drawing two more cards, he gave a smile. "I will put one monser in defense mode and one card face down" He announced. "That ends my turn"

"I will play one more monster face down and end my turn" His opponent said "Just one more turn."

"You won't need to wait" Yami said smugly "I play Dark Magician in attack mode" His ultimate creature appeared on the field.

Dark Magician: 2500/2100

The Dark Magician stared into the eyes of his advesary, piercing his very soul. No matter how many times he saw that monster, it would never cease to remind him of the past. How many times his friends had fallen to that Spellcaster. It struck him with horroble memories of defeat.

"Now I will play Book of secret arts to raise his attack" The book appeared in front of the Black Wizard and in only afew minutes, it raised his abilities.

Dark Magician: 2800/2400

"Now my dark magician will destroy your monster with Dark Magic" The enhanced Mage merely need to raise one hand to destroy it's enemy. The Skull knight shattered into small pieces which scattered to the wind.

"Wierd..." Yugi said in disbelief

"Wha is it Aibou?" The spirit asked

"Well, he's had those to face down cards for a while, but he hasn't used them yet" Yugi explained

"Maybe the chance just hasn't come up yet" Yami speculated.

"Maybe..." his other half said skepticly.

"Don't worry my light, I have a plan" He said reassuringly.

The cloaked man drew yet again and continued to stall "I play one monster in defense mode and end my turn" His plan wouldn't work until the swords of revealing light went away.

Yami didn't hesitate "Attack Dark Magician" The face down card became Terra the terrable just in time to be destroyed. "I end my turn"

Jounouchi watched from the sidelines. There were no hologram projectors, so how were they making those monsters appear? Were they real? He might have thought that was insane a year ago, but he had already seen some pretty wierd stuff. Not to menion the fact that most of it was related to this game as well.

The cloaked man laughed "Now that your swords are gone, I can begin to put my plan in action. First I'll play Dark ruler ha des in attack mode"

Dark ruler ha des: 2450/1600

"Now I activate Dark energy, to raise his attack"

Dark ruler ha des: 2750/1600

"Then, finally, I will play mystical space typhoon to destroy your book of secret arts"

Dark Magician: 2500/2100

"And now I'll attack your Magician!" He said, satisfied.

"Not so fast" Yami said with a half smile "I activate magical hats to conceal the Dark Magician" One hat covered the Dark Magician, that then spread to three by coping one on each side, which spread to four by coping one more on the left side.

"Ha des, attack one of the hats" The cloaked man commanded. He did so and completely obliterated one of the hats revealing absoluely nothing underneath. "Damn" he said under his breath.

"I will play one more card under the magical hats and end my trun" Yami said emotionlessly

"Great" his opponent said to himself "Now I don't know if it's a magic, trap, or monster" He decided to take precaution. "I'll put two cards face down and attack another hat" His monster charged up a blck energy ball and shot it at at the second hat. Once again, nothing was revealed.

Yami merely drew and ended his turn immediately. "You only habe two choices now" he explained "One leads to te destruction of my most powerful monster, while the athoer leads to your own demise"

"I wouldn't be so sure" He said "I activate Brain control on your Dark Magician" The brain shaped magic card appeared and using two big hands it tore through one of the hats to get to the Dark Magician. "Now, the dark Magcian will attack your last remaining hat"

The possessed Wizard mindlessly moved towards the final hat. With a blast from his staff the trap card Spellbinging circle appeared. "The best part is, since it's your wizard that attacked, he is the ne that gets hit with you trap card" The circle insnared the spellcaster in it's magical web. With his arms locked at his side, he was forced to drop his staff.

Dark Magician: 1800/2100

"That will end my turn" He said as a weakened Dark Magician returned to his side of the field.

Yami had toadmit, that was a pretty good move, but neither player had lost any life points so it wasn't to late to turn this back around a again. He looked on hisside of the field and noticed something. In all of the confusion ha had forgotten about playing the Mystical elf face down. He tried to the of how she could help him, but he couldn't figure anything out. He looked at his next card. "Yes, I knew the heart of the cards would noe fail me." He said to himself, then aloud he said "First I will play kuriboh in attack mode"

His oppoent that that that was wierd. Why play the weakest monster in the game in attack mode? Maybe he was strating to lose it. However, his plan became appearent very quickly.

"Next, I will Sacrifice both my dark Maigician and kuriboh to play the Chaos magic ritual" The ritual showed up on the field, takeing the Dark Magician on one side and Kuriboh on the other. "Meett the Ultimate Magician, the Magician of Black Chaos"

Magician of Black Chaos: 2800/ 2600

"I would be a fool to ignore you Magic card, so first I will activate Heavy storm to blow it away" The hurricane appeared in the middle of the field and towards tha claoked man's magic card card. It was turn face up and shown as adhesion trap hole right befoe it was shattered into pieces.

"I coldn't have you weakening my monster just as it attacks, now could I?" Yami said mockingly "Now my Magician, attack His Dark ruler"Wih a few spins of his cane, the new, more powerful Wizard blasted at his opponent, leaving no trace of him in the end.

Mysterious man: 1150

He cringed at the destruction of his monster. Somehow he had let the Pharaoh regain control of the situation. He could now see wh he was called theing of Games, he was able to get out of almost any situation.

Without hesitation, the cloaked man made his next move. "I'll play one card face down and one monster in defnense mode to end my turn"

Yami didn't want to attack without backup, so he put one face down card on the field as well. "Now, I'll destroy your face down monster" His monster went up to the card and, usin the tip of his staff, slashed through it.

"You've destroyed my big eye." His opponent proclaimed as he laid the card from his hand."Now I can rearrange the top five cards of my deck in any order" He picked up the top fice cards from his deck, then rearranged them, and put them back down. He then took his turn. "I'll play reasoning" he aid, putting the card on the field "Now, you pick a monster star level, and if it's at the top of the deck, it goes to the graveyard. However, if you pick the wrong numer it is special smmoned to the field.

Yami figured that he was probably trying to summon a powerful monster to deal with his magician. Since he knew the order of his next four cards, it was the perfect time to play this card. "I'll pick six stars" he said.

"Wrong" He said "I figured you'd pick a high number so I put this on the top" He flipped over the top card and revealed the Pitch dark Dragon.

Pitch dark Dragon: 900/600

Yami wondered what he was planning to do with that monster, it was very weak afterall.

"Now I will play the Dark Blade in attack mode" the cloaked man said as the Warrior appeared on the field.

Dark Blade: 1800/1500

"When these two monsters are on they field, they can unite to become even more powerful" Yami watched as The Black Warrior mounted the Dragon like a horse.

Dark Blade: 2200/1500

"Now I will add the magic card Dragonic Attack to make them even more powerful"

Dark Blade: 2900/1500

"And now that my monster is stronger than yours, I'll attack" The Dragon riding monster flew towards the spellcaster, slahing through it with it's sword at lightning speed.

Yugi: 1550
