The night fell silent, and so did Ryou as he slumped his head on his squashy pillow to sleep. School, his Yami, Yuugi and his friends, they were all mixed in his dreams as the young student quietly closed his eyes and fell into a comforting slumber.

"Beep beep, beep beep," the morning alarm rang through Ryou's ears like a siren.

"Ugh…School? Already?!" he alleged and turned over in his bed, and tried, once again, to sleep. He argued with himself if he should go to school that day, but the more intelligent part of him won. Yawning, he then glanced quickly over at his clock and froze.

FOUR O' CLOCK?!!! How the hell did that happen?! Okay…His CLOCK was now playing tricks on him, how great!

"Missed it," he breathed, but got dressed anyway and staggered downstairs.

Munching some rather disgusting burnt toast, even to his distaste, worked on a project for school. It was about supernatural happenings, it would be quite easy for him considering that he was the holder of an ancient item which held a very intimidating spirit inside. Ah well, it WOULD have to be done eventually, right? And what time would be better to do it on than a boring, stupid day when you missed school? Yep, today. Or it would be housework, because his dad was out…As usual. Not sure of why he was actually eating toast when it was around nightfall, he decided that he would just do his project instead of cleaning.

~Yuugi's POV~ (09.30am)

Yawn. Math, I hate it…While the teacher was scribbling god knows what on the blackboard Joey sat making funny faces at me. Sometimes he was a loyal friend, other times (like now) he was a goofy idiot. Hey…Something just occurred to me. Where the heck was Ryou? He hardly ever missed school, though after what happened yesterday he must feel sort of…upset…

~flashback~ (yesterday at 12.30am, lunch)

I sat solemnly beside Ryou and my other friends in the lunch hall. Joey was stuffing his face with food while Tea and Tristen were staring blankly into space.

"Hey, Yuugi" Joey called, and wiped a speckle of cake from his chin.

"Yeah?" I answered, lost in my mind.

Joey poked me, and leaned over to my ear.

"What's wrong with Ryou? He's lookin' kinda…Weird."

"He's fine…Well…Actually, he isn't. Something's been getting to him, I think it's the millennium ring." I whispered. Joey continued his large (maybe I should use a BIGGER word?!) meal, and Joey asked Ryou if he was feeling okay. When Ryou replied "no, not really" he thought that piling one hundred questions on him was a good idea.

Apparently annoyed by him, Ryou pulled away, and sulked outside into the school grounds. The ever-senseless Joey followed and incensed Ryou, who suddenly burst into an outrage.

"Just leave me alone, Ok?! Listen, I would have told you if it was serious! It's none of your business, you irritating annoying freak!" and with that Ryou angrily pushed Joey out of his way, and rushed inside to Geography class.

"Wow…What's eating him?"

"I told you not to…" Joey turned round as I stood behind him, arms folded like an angry parent. Even in class Ryou still had quite a bad temper, for what reason I didn't know. It wasn't like him…At all.

~end Yuugi's POV and flashback~

At eight `o clock that night, Ryou was sitting without a sound in front of the TV. Suddenly the program he was watching flickered and the news came on.

"What the"- he got interrupted by a loud crash outside. He quickly looked outside…Nothing.

"There has been a horrific murder including what looks like teeth marks on the victims neck. It is clear the locals are most terrified, here is a picture of the poor victim before the attack" He heard the news reporter say loudly, and an image ofa boy appeared on the screen. Ryou shrugged and mumbled

"Maniacs…" under his breath, then stood immobile when he saw the photograph of the boy.

"Oh my god…He's in my math class!" Ryou thought quickly. That was it…He HAD to tell Yuugi this. Turning around, he stopped dead in his tracks as a shadow stood beyond the door.

"Who are you? Please get out of my house!" Ryou pleaded.

"You'll learn soon, little Ryou…For you are the next victim…"

Finished! It was okay for a first EVER chapter…Wasn't it? Well, I'll let you decide, and please give me some ideas for the next chapter! I dunno what characters are going to all be in it yet, bu if you want a certain char just tell me! ^_- ~Yami dragon
