***************
Two figures lay together in the darkness, limbs entwined. Both were slim and pale, with long manes of silvery locks cascading down to their mid back. They seemed to be in their mid teens. But they were far older. Neither one knew any longer. All they knew, was that the larger of the pair, was 5000 years older than the smaller one.
They were Ryou, and Bakura, the twin spirits of the powerful and ancient Millennium Ring. Long ago, when Ryou still lived, he had fallen in love with the Egyptian Spirit, Bakura, and, at through the favor of a friend, was sealed within the Ring, to stay with his lover forever. But that was long ago. They didn't know how long. They figured it had been around a few millennia. A few millennia since they had last been free to wander the world outside of the Ring. But they had each other, and that was all that mattered to the albino pair. Now they slumbered peacefully, not caring what my be happening in the world. It wasn't their concern. It never had been. Until now.
Their soul room gave a sudden lurch, and the boys were thrown to the floor, waking instantly, one in a fearful panic, the other in wary alertness.
"Bakura?"
"Hai?"
"What, what was that?"
"I don't know." Bakura muttered, looking around.
"Are we being freed again?"
"Iie. I doubt it."
"Then what-"
"Shhh…" Bakura hissed, and looked around. Everything was silent. Suddenly, and blinding pain ripped through the darker of the pair, and a shriek filled Bakura's ears, alerting him to the fact that he wasn't the only feeling the mind-numbing pain. He fell to his knees, and dragged himself over to Ryou, who was writhing in agony on the floor. Suddenly, the pain stopped, and there a loud cracking noise. Their soul room shattered around them, and they fell into black nothingness. Bakura reached out to Ryou, who was screaming in his fright. They fell for what felt like hours, until, with bone shattering force, they slammed into something solid. All went black.
***************
Bakura was the first to awaken. He crawled over to his small lover, and shook him.
"Ryou-chan…." He called, softly. "Wake up, tenshi." Ryou's eyelids fluttered.
"Bakura-chan…?"
"Hai?"
"What, what happened?"
"I'm not sure. I, I think the Ring…." He swallowed, and Ryou sat up, staring at him. "I think the Ring has been destroyed."
"Nani?! Destroyed?!?"
"Hai."
"Demo, then where are we?"
"I don't know."
"You are in the Hall of Judgment." Both boys jumped at the booming voice. Bakura stood, looking around. Slowly, through the darkness, a figure appeared. When Bakura saw it, he paled, and swallowed, then fell to his knees.
"Lord Anubis…." He murmured. Ryou, still on the ground, stared. The Jackal headed Egyptian God of Death stood before him. The darkness around them parted, and a large Ammut of golden scales appeared. Standing beside them were two more figures. Thoth, the Ibis headed God of wisdom, and scribe. And another figure, frightening to behold. It had the head of a crocodile, the front half of the body was that of a lion, and the back half a hippo. It was Ammut, the Devourer of Souls. Ryou swallowed.
"Your souls are to be weighed." Anubis said, and reached out. Ryou was closer. Ryou stared in horror, as the God's hand passed into his chest. He gasped, when he felt the hand close around his heart, and remove it from his body. It was painless, but uncomfortable. He and Bakura watched, as Anubis approached the scales, with Ryou's heart in his hands. He laid it on one side of the scales, and Thoth laid a feather on the other side. They stood back, and Ryou and Bakura held their breathe as the scales tipped back and forth a moment, before the feather sank, outweighing Ryou's soul. Bakura breathed a sigh of relief;
"Judgment is passed." Anubis said, and Thoth scribble don his papyrus scroll. "Your soul is pure. You may enter the Kingdom of Osiris." Bakura hugged Ryou. But his relief was short lived, when Anubis approached Him.
Bakura wanted to run and hide, return to the Millennium Ring, but it was gone. Now, he had to face his fate. He grit his teeth when Anubis took his heart. Ryou stood by Bakura's side, silently praying to whatever god may be listening. Bakura's heart was laid on the scales. They tipped back and forth, weighing his life with the feather. Then, the scales tipped dramatically, and Ryou felt his heart fall, when he saw Bakura's fall.
"No…." Ryou whispered.
"Judgment is passed." Anubis said, and Thoth recorded the results. "Your soul is not worthy of eternity. You will find your destruction within the jaws of Ammut." Bakura sank to his knees, staring at the ground. It was over. Anubis lifted hi heart from the scales, and turned to the Devourer of Souls.
"No…" Ryou murmured. "NO!!!" He shouted, and ran towards Anubis.
"Ryou! Stop!" Bakura cried out, fearful of what the god my do to his lover.
"Don't! Give him another chance! Please!" Ryou pleaded, falling to his knees, gripping the jackal-god's tunic. The god looked down at Ryou, with a hard stare.
"He has been judged. The scales have spoken. He is not worthy of the realm of Osiris."
"Please!" Ryou begged, tears streaming down his cheeks. "He's changed. It's weighing all the evil he's done! He's changed. He's not what he used to be! Please! I love him…." Ryou whimpered, pitifully. "I don't want to live without him."
"You will spend eternity in the Kingdom of Osiris." Anubis said. For the first time, in all his eons of existence, the god was truly baffled. He turned, ad looked to Thoth, the soft-spoken God of Wisdom. "Brother?" He asked. Thoth, feeling pity, strode up to Ryou and Anubis, looking curiously at the boy, as if he had never seen such a thing as Ryou.
"Why do you ask this, little one?" He queried. Ryou let his gaze drop.
"I love him. I love him more than anything. If, if I must spend eternity without him, then I do not want eternity. If he is to be destroyed, then so would I." Thoth and Anubis exchanged shocked glances. Thoth knelt, and placed his finger under Ryou's chin, tilting his face up, to look the boy in the eyed.
"You would suffer destruction rather than be separated from this unworthy soul?"
"Yes." Ryou whispered.
"Ryou, no…" Bakura gasped.
"Your souls have been weighed. That is the final judgment." Anubis said, firmly.
"He's my other half. I lose him, I lose half of my soul…" Ryou whimpered. Then, he froze. "No….." He looked up at Anubis and Thoth. "We are two halves, are we not? Yami and Hikari. Darkness and Light?" Thoth nodded.
"You are."
"Then, you weighed us incorrectly." Thoth and Anubis stared at Ryou, completely bewildered. "You cannot weigh the light and dark half of a soul separately."
"W-what?" Anubis gasped. Thoth blinked.
"We are one soul…" you pleaded. "you, you must weigh us together!" Thoth's eyes widened.
"He, he's right…." He admitted, amazed.
"But their two souls!" Anubis sputtered out.
"they are two, but one…." Thoth mused.
"Two souls would tip the scales against them, no matter how pure…"
"Then we must way them against two feathers." Thoth said, slowly.
"Yes!" Ryou pleaded. "Weigh out souls together. Let mine counter-act his!"
"Ryou!" Bakura gasped, finally finding his voice.
"If the scales tip in our favor, we both go to the Kingdom of Osiris…" Ryou said, softly.
"If they tip against you," Anubis said, "You both go to Ammut."
"Ryou, no! Go now, when you have the chance!" Bakura screamed.
"Agreed." Ryou said, ignoring Bakura's scream. Anubis turned to Thoth, who nodded. Anubis sighed, and placed Bakura's heart back on the scales, Ryou's beside it.
"You idiot…" Bakura breathed, when Ryou ran to him.
"I love you. No matter what happens, I love you…" Ryou whispered, throwing his arms around Bakura's neck.
"I love you too, Ryou." Bakura murmured. They turned, when Thoth laid a second feather on the scales by the first. He nodded to Anubis, and the jackal god released the scales. They tipped back and forth. They seemed to move agonizingly slow.
"Please, please, please, oh Ra, please…." Bakura whispered, clinging tightly to Ryou, who watched the scales. Slowly, they stopped rocking back and forth, and held still. Ryou, Bakura, Thoth, and Anubis stared. Thoth blinked.
"They balance. Evenly…." Anubis whispered.
"What does that mean…?" Ryou asked Bakura, softly.
"I, I don't know. Thoth will decide." Bakura whispered back. The Ibis-headed god nodded, slowly, inspecting the scales. He then turned to Bakura and Ryou.
"The Hikari's soul balances out the yami's. Ammut will go hungry tonight." With a flash, a portal opened beside Ryou and Bakura. "Enter the Kingdom of Osiris." Thoth said, and vanished, along with Anubis, Ammut, and the scales.
"We did it…" Bakura gasped. "Ryou, you did it. You…." Bakura stared at Ryou. "You saved my soul….."
"Ashiteru…" Ryou whispered, pressing his lips to his dark's.
"Are you two coming, or not?" A voice reached their ears. They released each other, and whirled to face the portal.
"Yeah. You're late enough as it is." A second voice said.
"M-Marik?" Bakura gasped. "Malik?"
"No, it's Cleopatra and Mark Antony." Malik drawled. "Of course it's us, you idiot. Where the hell have you been?" Ryou grinned, excited to see his old friends.
"Malik! Marik!" He cried, and ran to them. Marik and Malik caught the pale Hikari, and hugged him close.
"Hey, kiddo." Marik growled. "What kept you?"
"I'm so glad to see you!" Ryou cried. "And the others? Yami and Yugi?"
"Right behind you, Ryou." A regal voice chuckled. Ryou and Bakura whirled. Yami and Yugi stood before them, grinning.
"Yugi!" Ryou cried, and ran to embrace his friend. "Joey! Tristan! Ammuto! Otogi! Mikado! Ahmose!" Bakura smiled at Ryou's joy, and turned to face Yami.
"Pharaoh…" He said.
"Bakura." Yami answered, nodding to the former tomb robber. "It's about time you got here. We've been wondering about you two."
"I, we, he, Ryou, he…"
"I know. We saw it all. Welcome home Bakura. It hasn't been the same without you." Bakura stared at Yami. He tried to fight the tears that threatened to fall, but it was useless, and he knew it. He stepped forwards, and Yami met him. the pair embraced. "We missed you…" Yami whispered.
"I, I missed you too. We both did." They stepped back, and hastily wiped their joyful tears.
"Hey, where's Tea?" Ryou asked. Yami fidgeted, nervously.
"Errrr…." He turned slightly red.
"Pharaoh, what did you do?" Bakura asked, smirking.
"I, uh, I cut a deal with Osiris….."
"And…." Bakura prompted.
"She's, uh, restricted to one area of the Kingdom. Over there. Far, far away…." Bakura snickered. "Even in the after life, she wouldn't quit hitting on me…."
"Spending eternity, with my friends, lover, and no dealing with Tea?" Bakura asked, putting his arms around Ryou. "Now this truly is paradise."

Just another one-shot fic to add to my collection. I hope you all liked it. This is like the Epilogue to the series I'm writing, starting with Koibito Yami. It happens quite a few millennia later. Oh, Millennium Balance isn't posted yet. Oh, and there will be a sequel to I Hate It. I Crave It. It will be entitled I Want It. I Need It. It should be up in a few days. Oh, and go check out How The Mighty Hath Fallen and Solar Eclipse!
