Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Forbidden Wishes ❯ Winds of Change ( Chapter 3 )
Winds of Change
Yugi woke a few hours later and looked up at the clock, it was only a little after noon. He rolled over and found his bed empty. He sat up and found that Yami wasn't there. He heard sounds coming from the kitchen and could smell cooking. Was Grandpa home early? He sniffed at the air. No, Grandpa almost never fixed grilled cheese sandwiches anymore. He got up and went into the bathroom, after he finished, he washed his hands and face. Then he went to his closet and pulled out some sweat pants and a tee shirt. As he put them on, he heard a bang followed by a sharp curse.
/Is everything ok down there/
//Hmm, oh! You are awake. Sorry about that if I woke you. I'll have some lunch ready in a few minutes. //
Yugi smiled to himself and finished dressing. He picked up the Millenium Puzzle, which sat on his desk. It had a deep onyx set in the hole that was once was in it. The jewel had allowed Yami to resume his form, but still allowed him to access to the secrets inside it. Yugi blocked the memories of how that stone had come to be, but they washed over him anyway.
**Flash back**
Yugi and Kajika walked through the park towards Ryou's house. They talked of their plans for the next day, since there was no school. She promised to meet him at the game shop and they'd spend the day together.
"Maybe we could go to the museum, Yugi. I love this culture and I want to move back here after I graduate high school." She smiled and turned to Yugi. "And I love you."
"Kiki, I love you and I only want you to be happy. If it is in your destiny to come back to Domino, We will be together again." Tomorrow was Kiki's last day in town. She and Yugi wanted to spend it together before she left Monday morning.
They passed a group of low bushes, and stopped. Fireflies lit them up as though someone had put Christmas lights on them. It was beautiful. Yugi closed his eyes and leaned toward her for a long kiss. They broke apart and she looked at her watch.
"Oh no! If we don't hurry, I'm going to be late." Ryou's mom had set a curfew for her to be home my 11pm. It was now 5 minutes till. They ran for the last block to her host's home. Once outside, she leaned in to give Yugi one last kiss. It was the last kiss they'd ever share.
A man stepped out from the bushes, and Yugi felt Yami emerge from the puzzle. He didn't take over Yugi's body as he normally did. That was weird. What's happening?
// I don't know, little one. Be careful//
/Ok. /
Yugi didn't get to finish what he was going to say, as the man pulled out a gun and held it to Kajika's head.
"It's time for you to die, bitch. Did you really think coming here would stop me from killing you?"
He fired the gun and Kajika slumped to the ground.
"NOOO! KAJIKA!" Yugi screamed and dropped to her side. To his side, he saw Yami. He was glowing. His spiky hair whipped about his face as he held out his hand. An eye glowed in the middle of his forehead as he spoke.
"Soul Stalker, you have met your last and your fate. I banish you to the shadow realm. OBLIVIATE!"
The man's body glowed too. Then it separated and one body fell to the ground, a man who looked to be nearly 18 and one that remained standing looked like the man who shot Kajika. To Yugi's surprise, the body that hit the ground first looked like. /Yami? /
//Yes, Yugi? //
Yami reached down and picked up a small onyx stone from the ground. Its setting was an exact match to the face of the millenium puzzle. This is what allowed him to have the man's body. Yami looked over at Yugi, whose face was covered with a mixture of blood and tears. His eyes beginning to close
Yugi closed his eyes and willed the pain to go away. He kept his eyes shut the whole time he was at the police station. Yami told the police everything, and Yugi just nodded his head to the questions asked of him. After several hours had passed, he felt someone lift him and carry him out to a car. Once he was inside, the person got in next to him and held him close. The car stopped outside the game shop and Yami got out first then lifted Yugi, cradling him close. He carried him up the stairs, and to the adjoining bathroom in Yugi's room. He stripped off the blood soaked clothing from Yugi's body, and then from himself. The only thing he left on was his boxers. He eased them both into the hot bath Yugi's Grandpa had ready.
** End Flashback **
A gentle hand brushed a tear from Yugi's face. He looked up. Yami's eyes met his, and they were a strange shade of red. Yugi knew that when Yami was upset his eyes were a fierce shade of red, but here more recently, they stayed a deep purple. It wasn't hard to disguise the look of concern that Yami wore.
// That's the first time you remembered that much of what happened. I'm proud of you. Do you want to eat now? //
Yugi nodded and followed Yami down the steps. Once in the kitchen, Yami gathered Yugi into a hug. He remembered the night a lot more clearly than Yugi did. Memories were slowly coming back to the boy. They'd only been back from Hawaii for a few days, after going there for Kajika's funeral. Yugi had kept to himself the whole week they were there. He'd hardly spoken and been nearly inconsolable during the funeral. Tristian and Joey had gone with them but had left after the funeral. Yugi's pain had affected everyone there. The only time he saw Yugi smile is when Kajika's sister and Ryou had encouraged Yugi to go snorkeling. Being under the pristine Hawaiian waters was enough to bring a slight sparkle back to his eyes. He'll remember more as time goes on. I wish I could do more for him, but he has to be ready to face these memories.
Yugi remained silent as they ate. Yami felt afraid that he might go back into the silent state he'd been in for the past few weeks. Grandpa had allowed Yugi to miss school when he was like this. Gently he probed the boy's mind, to see if he could get Yugi to speak. After a few seconds he finally heard Yugi's voice.
"Sorry, I guess I'm lost in my thoughts, Thanks for the lunch, Yami. You are getting better at cooking."
"If you call cooking making these sandwiches and opening a can of soup to warm, then I guess so." Yami chuckled. Yugi now wore a small smile on his face. Yugi was also looking at the TV. There was a movie coming on that Yugi liked. They quickly did the dishes and settled down on the couch to watch the movie. Yugi lay on the couch and Yami sat at the end, near Yugi's feet. Yami wanted to hold him right now. Yugi's feelings had been so erratic here of late. Yami wondered if his feelings had infected Yugi's thoughts. As far as he knew, Yugi liked girls, so where these feelings were coming from baffled them both. When Yami was Pharaoh, he'd had lovers of both sexes, and didn't mind giving in to Yugi's curiosity. He only wished that Yugi would wait till he was truly ready for them.
The movie turned out to be a sci-fi thriller about some family that gets trapped in space. The special effects dazzled Yami. Such magic, such realism. He looked over at Yugi. He'd fallen asleep again. Yami tenderly picked him up and carried him back up the stairs to their room and tucked him into bed.
Yami then went into the bathroom to take a shower. He liked to shower when he wanted to think. As the steamy water rained down on him, he thought about the events of the day. He didn't know if he could handle much more of Yugi's curiosity. He turned off the water and stepped out of the tub. He dried off and began to get dressed when he heard Yugi screaming. Fearing it was another nightmare; he bolted into the bedroom, only to see Yugi cringing at the furthest part of the bed from a small black spider. Yami quickly knocked the spider off the bed and killed it.
//(Chuckling) You gave me a fright over a tiny spider? My poor little one let me hold you. //
Yugi didn't need to be told twice, no sooner then Yami sit down on the bed; he buried his face in Yami's neck.
/ It landed on my cheek, it scared me. /
Yami could feel Yugi trembling. He knew the boy was deathly afraid of spiders. Joey had dared Yugi to watch some movie called Arachnophobia on the fight home from Hawaii. Yami chuckled at the memories of him having to pry Yugi off of himself only to see him attach himself to Joey. After that, Joey took the headphones away from Yugi and covered his face with the blanket the airline had lent them. Joey felt bad for that though, He'd spent the rest of the flight holding his friend, crying for making him so scared.
Slowly the trembling gave way to the sounds of one in a deep sleep. Yami decided to try sleeping in his own bed tonight. He'd been doing that for a few days now, but the nightmares either drove him to Yugi's bedside or he'd be woken up when Yugi would crawl into bed with him crying.
This was going to be hard. Grandpa had already told Yugi that the school was going to let him take three weeks off, because he'd lost his love, and witnessed a brutal murder. That was going to take time to get over.
A/N= This chapter was mainly used to explain how Yami got his body, and will be the only non Yaoi chapter of the fanfic.
