Disclaimer: Do I look like I own Yu-Gi-Oh? Nope, I'm just a poverty-stricken fanfiction writer like the rest o' ya. I only own the fic and my fragile little mind. And Rokou Chang *grinz and hugs Rokou* The song "Never Is A Long Time" is by Roxette, one of my favourite bands of all time.

"Never Is A Long Time" -- by Roxette

You built it up and tear it down, there's no reason to follow you

You left the song without a sound, you left the story I made for you

Softly angels bow and cry in the stillness of the night

Never is a long time -- goodbye

No answers for the asking

It's a long time -- goodbye

No mercy for the aching

It's a long time -- oh I see no light on the forsaken

Never is a long time -- goodbye

Let's spend the night when this dream has come to an end

Sometimes you laugh, sometimes you cry and yes, I've cried for you

You left me blind in paradise, you've left me hungering for the touch of you

Snow white angels run and hide in the blackness of the night

Never is a long time -- goodbye

No answers for the asking

It's a long time -- goodbye

No mercy for the aching

It's a long time -- oh I see no light on the forsaken

Never is a long time -- goodbye

Let's spend the night when this dream has come to an end

Chapter Two:: Confusions of the Heart

********************

Yugi's narrowed amethyst eyes held nothing but pain and darkness, shadows lingered around his being like they were feeding off something. Feeding off his soul. Ryou blinked, then wiped his own brown ones with the back of his hand. Tears were beginning to form.

'After all this time I've finally found him.........'

"Yugi, I........."

"I don't need your pity," he hissed, slapping Ryou's hand away before it could land on the desk. "I've changed, Bakura. Can't you see that? I've changed since the day you rejected me. I no longer need anybody, I don't want you anymore. I've realized that I've always been alone. And I intend to keep it that way."

'You don't really want me to go, do you?' Ryou thought, giving one last, longing look in those hurt-filled eyes before turning. He ran a hand through his ponytail and sat down at a desk three places to the left of his ex-best friend. 'You want me to stay but you deny it, don't you, Yugi? You claim to be perfectly alright but you're not. I can see your soul's being consumed by the darkness that surrounds you. How long, Yugi? How long until you finally crack? How long has it been since you last had a friend, since you last had someone to lean on?' Delicate fingers laced through the many loopholes of his millennium ring as he gently fingered the gold frames.

"Hey."

Ryou looked up at a boy with long brown hair and a small unibang covering his left eye. He smiled. "You're new here, aren't you?"

He nodded. "Ryou Bakura."

"Rokou Chang. Nice to meet you." Rokou sat next to the silver-haired boy in the desk to his left and glanced at the millennium ring hanging around his neck. "That's cool. Where'd you get it?"

"My father got it for me on one of his archeology trips in Cairo. It's very special to me."

"Mutou used to have something similar to that up until a year and a half ago. An upside-down pyramid if I remember correctly. Back then he was popular alright, extremely popular. Then one day he just stopped wearing it. I was a friend of his and I was worried about what was happening to him. He didn't come to school for three weeks. I wanted to visit him but he'd never answer the door, didn't call me or any one of us. Then he came to school like that, all dressed in black and depressed and stuff."

"Hm? Why's that?"

"Last I knew his only living relative died. I believe it was his grandfather."

Ryou froze, eyes widening. 'His grandfather died? No wonder he's like this. Those two were tight and his grandfather raised him from when he was five. Poor Yugi. But what made him stop wearing the millennium puzzle? What happened to Yami Yugi?'

Before Ryou could ask anymore questions, the teacher came in and class began.

********************

Before he could believe it, an entire month of school had passed. Ryou was rather upset that Yugi was only in his maths class but the cold way the teen had been acting towards him was just.........wrong. Rokou was taking him to a club tonight, some place everyone went to on Friday nights.

Including Yugi.

Bakura watched his aibou get changed, eyeing him critically as Ryou threw on more comfortable clothing, more appropriate for clubs than college. As much as Bakura hated to admit it, the two had gotten close over the last few years, more than what they'd been in Battle City. He'd taught his aibou to defend himself so that he didn't need to be there all the time when Ryou was bullied.

The silver-haired teen hummed to himself as he pulled his wet hair back into its usual ponytail and brushed it before adding silver glitter-gel which made it sparkle. Ryou grinned, finally pulling on the black leather pants he'd managed to aquire over the three years that had passed over his white boxers. With the combination of black and white, he looked like some fallen angel. He wore a white tee-shirt with the words "Bite Me" on the front in blood-red thread, white elbow-length fingerless leather gloves and black calf-length combat boots over the leather pants.

Ryou twirled around, facing his yami with his arms outstretched to the sides. "How do I look?"

Bakura brushed some hair out of his eyes and gave a low whistle of approval. "Beautiful. Just beautiful, aibou."

Ryou grabbed his wallet and stuffed it into a back pocket. "Father's over at the museum helping them with the Egyptian artifacts there. You have the house to yourself and if you want me you can always return to the millennium ring........." He glanced up as his wrist was grabbed.

"I'm coming with you." A cold smirk curled on Bakura's lips. "After all, it wouldn't do us any good if you were to be beaten up now, would it?" He disappeared inside the millennium ring still around his aibou's neck.

Ryou shook his head, stroking the ancient ring fondly. "I can't go anywhere without you worrying about me, can I, Bakura?"

//Shut up!// came the soft growl in his mind. He laughed before hearing a horn beep.

"That's Rokou-kun!" He ran down the stairs, grabbing his keys on the coffee table on the way out and locking the door.

"Hurry up, Ryou!"

"I'm coming! I'm coming!" Ryou jammed the keys into his pocket and leapt over the side of the passenger's door of the black convertible.

Rokou whistled approvingly, eyeing him. "Nice clothes, Ryou. Now buckle up. We gotta get there in fifteen."

********************

Yugi wiped the sweat away from his forehead as he danced. Everyone, as always, was too jammed onto the dancefloor, bodies moving against each other almost erotically. Then again, almost everything went in this club as long as it was consensual. There always somehow seemed to be a space around him though and the coloured lights avoided touching him. He didn't care though. As long as people stayed away from him it was fine.

He frowned as Ryou came into his mind. When was the last time someone had actually come that close to him? Probably before that day......that day his grandfather died. And Rokou had dragged Ryou into his little game of so-called friendship.........

******************** FLASHBACK ********************

Yugi tried to struggle out of his chains that bound him to the silk-sheeted bed, that had him trapped. The cold, light-crimson eyes above him seemed to smirk as a delicate, pale hand trailed down his cheek, drawing up the tears rolling.

"Rokou-kun, why?" he sobbed. "Why??"

"Why, Yugi-chan?" A cruel, rough tongue pressed against his cheek, licking up the trail of tears. "Because I like innocents like you. Because I like having young, beautiful ones like you beneath me, begging to be released, begging to be loved."

[Why did I leave the millennium puzzle at home? Why did I become friends with this creep?] "Yami......" Yugi whispered softly.

"And I know you're going to love this," Rokou hissed before thrusting deeply into the shorter teen. Yugi cried out in pain, the pain that racked through his body......and the pain in his heart............

******************** END FLASHBACK ********************

Yugi felt tears beginning to prick his eyes, but he blinked them away. No, he wouldn't cry. He hadn't cried since that time. All his tears had been drained, all his happiness taken away. Now he thrived on other people's pain, but it was nothing compared to the pain Rokou had made him feel. He'd left the millennium puzzle alone since then. Yami wouldn't understand, he'd been a pharaoh for crying out loud! He wouldn't understand the feelings of a commoner.

"Alone," Yugi whispered, his voice drained out by the loud heavy metal music. "Forever............"

********************

Ryou whistled lowly as Rokou led him in, running a hand through his hair. This was the most outragous club he'd seen yet. Teenagers and young adults alike were on the dancefloor, some positioned at the tables around the room. The music was very heavy-beat and it was something even he himself could dance to, and he wasn't the world's greatest dancer.

"Pretty cool, huh?" Rokou shouted over the roar of the music. The brunette had already begun to walk towards the dancefloor. Even those who weren't on the dancefloor were dancing. Those who couldn't fit on there that is.

"Yeah. Listen, I gotta go to the can, kay?"

"Okay! Second door down that corridor." Rokou pointed to a dark doorway near the bar and disappeared into the crowd of dancers. Ryou stared after him, then made his way through the sidelines. Rokou was a strange one.........

Unknown to him, Rokou watched him leave for the men's room, a cold smile curling. "And another innocent bug crawls into the spider's trap," he whispered before bumping into someone. He looked up into cold, unforgiving amethyst eyes and was grabbed at the scruff of the shirt.

"Listen, Chang," Yugi's voice hissed in his ear, voice filled with hatred and venom. "You may have been able to fool me and others with your little nice act but Bakura's different. I advise you lay off him or you'll be at death's door. My way or his way." 'At least he's safe. He's still wearing the millennium ring after all these years.........'

Rokou's smile became a smirk. "Oh really, Mutou? And here I thought you didn't want that little angel around you. Or has your mind changed." He clicked his tongue. "Make up your mind, my little toy. For soon his innocence will be wiped away. For good." He unlocked Yugi's hand from his shirt and disappeared again into the crowd calmly.

"Little bastard," Yugi spat, wiping his hand off on his trenchcoat. He noticed Ryou return from the bathroom at the back and sighed softly. "It's up to you, Bakura. I've given him the warning, he's not going to take it seriously........."

END OF CHAPTER TWO

In the next chapter of "Forever Is A Long Time"::

Unknown to Ryou, Rokou has his eye on him and would do anything to get him into bed, just like all those other little innocents he's had in the past. Meanwhile, fighting against the turmoil inside his mind and heart, Yugi must decide what's best - sacrificing Ryou's innocence to keep what little of his own is left, or step in and save him from Rokou.
