*Joey's POV *

I woke the next morning in a hospital room. Dim memories floated through my mind. The last thing I clearly remember is seeing Kaiba come and see me. I remember him kissing my cheek, and I remember feeling his soft breath on my ear as he said "I'll be back, Pup."

I remember the old Kaiba, the one who called me things like "Mutt" and "Dog". He's softened the word just a little, calling me "Puppy" now. There was a soft knock at the door and I called out for the person to come in.

My counselor from the DHS, Catherine Martians appeared. She looked very stern today, but then again, I guess she was mad at my dad. She sat down in a chair by my bed and pulled out her little notebook.

"Joey, I am going to ask you a few questions, and please answer them to the best of your abilities."

"I will try, I'm still kinda groggy from some medicines they gave me."

"Okay. Last night, I was about to turn you over to the Domino Boys Home when someone stepped up to take you into their home. Would you feel awkward living in a foster home until you are eighteen?"

"Well first, I'd have to know who, and then I'd tell you."

"Seto Kaiba."

My heart began to beat double time. I knew that Kaiba was always offering me a safe haven from my father. He had a room next to Mokuba's ready for me, but on the few occasions I did stay, I rarely used it.

"I wouldn't mind that, not at all. Seto and I have become friends here of late. He has on of his spare rooms fixed up for me."

"So you've stayed with him before?"

"Yeah, I stayed with him two nights before my birthday."

"Have you ever slept with him?"

My heart almost stopped beating. I haven't really slept with him, but we've had some heated make-out sessions, and we've fooled around some.

"What do you mean slept with him? Had sex?"

Catherine smiled at me; I've never told her that Kaiba and I were really interested in each other. She reached over and took my hand.

"Joey, I can tell by your reaction how you feel towards him. He nearly died last night when I told him you would be in state custody. I know he cares a great deal for you. The only reason I asked if you've had sex with him is because you've been molested."

"I've told him some of what's happened with me, not everything, yet. I don't want to loose him."

"Joey, if he truly loves you, then nothing you could say about what your father did to you would ever turn his heart against you."

"Maybe you're right. It's just so weird though. At Duelist Kingdom, he treated me like crap, calling me a worthless dog, and now, I'm his puppy."

"When did you see a change in him?"

"Well it was just after Battle City. I was walking home, and he asked if I needed a ride. I tried to turn him down, but it was raining so I took him up on his offer, then I realized I didn't have my keys, so he let me stay with him. We sat up all night talking, I told him about how my dad treats me, and he shared about how his dad, then his adoptive family treated him. I realized that his cold hearted nature was only a front."

"When did you realize the nature of his feelings towards you?"

"I think it was last year, he told me he always liked me, but was afraid to admit it, even to himself. I know I always have a safe haven now, and that is both the Kaiba Corp towers and his home."

"Wow, I remember you were always telling me what a selfish, arrogant jerk he was, is it possible you've fallen for him, Joey."

I smiled and blushed. She knew in the past how much I've hated Kaiba, and now, the mere thought of him makes my heart beat faster. A knock at the door sounded again, and Kaiba walked into the room. In his hand, he held a small bouquet of flowers. He sheepishly handed them to me, and there was a card inside. As I opened the card, he took it from me and read it aloud.

"My precious Joey, I know I'll never make up all the pain I've caused you, but know this, I love you, always have, and always will."

His hand reached down to brush a tear that started to roll down my cheek. He'd finally said it; he loves me. Catherine cleared her throat.

"Seto, I spoke with the doctor this morning before I came to see Joey. He is to be released this afternoon, providing that his tests come back good. I'll be at your home at two to inspect his room."

"He normally sleeps with me, but he does have his own room, it's even decorated to his tastes."

"Well as long as I establish that he does indeed have his own space in your home, that should be sufficient. I will also bring some paperwork that I will need you to sign."

"Very well, I shall be looking forward to your visit."

Catherine left the room, and finally I was alone. Kaiba advanced on the bed. He leaned down and kissed me softly. His fingers swept my hair from my face. I could not believe that he actually loved me.

Another knock sounded at the door, and we both groaned at the intrusive sound. The doctor came in, with a clipboard in his hands. He looked at the sheets of paper before looking up at me with a smile on his face.

"Joey, I have some very good news for you, you can go home at noon. Your blood work looks good, though I want you to have bed rest for at least 24 hours. You will also need to make sure you drink plenty of fluids." The doctor handed Kaiba the clipboard and he initialed where he was told his initials were needed.

"Pup, I'm going to go find you some clothes to wear. I'll be back around noon, okay."

He left and I looked up at the clock on the wall. It was ten. Two hours then I'll be in a safe home. I closed my eyes and drifted back into a sleep. The flowers perfumed the air so softly, and I could still smell his cologne. I cant wait till I'm home and in his arms.
