He was floating in darkness, in nothingness. Faces floated overhead, the flashbacks of how things had begun to crumble around him in front of his dulled amethyst eyes. The cold wind whipped over his naked body and he began to hear voices.

-He's not ready yet! Can't you see that the darkness needs to fully take control of his fragile body and mind?-

//That accident with those fool girls was perfect for the darkness to begin its descend. Soon he shall carry out our dreams for his world to see......//

A dark chuckle echoed through the emptiness. <They have yet to realize how precious their little Yugi is to our darkness. The death of someone dear to him should send him over the edge, don't you think, my friends?>

The three voices laughed and as he regained consciousness, the last thing he saw was Anzu kissing Mai...............

********************

"Yugi? Hey, man, what's wrong?" Jounouchi Katsuya waved a hand in front of his friend's eyes, cursing at the empty look in them. Since that day months ago when he'd found the two bitches kissing, he'd been distant, as if allowing it all to sink into his mind. Jounouchi had once feared that his dueling partner had gotten himself too engrossed with the brunette girl, that his young heart would break and that undeniable innocence would be shattered if she didn't return the feelings he had once held so deeply for her.

He was right. Now all that was left of the Yugi Mutou he once knew was a shell, the boy having built up barriers and walls to protect himself from anyone else hurting him. Jounouchi himself was beginning to become afraid of him. His amethyst eyes that had once shined with life were now dulled and filled with pure black hatred. His once ever-cheerful voice filled with nothing but malicious intent, nothing but cruelty. His entire world as he knew it, destroyed. His heart shattered. All because of that bitch Anzu Mazaki.

Jounouchi gently shook his shoulder before the smaller teen came to, blinking at first, then looking at him with apprehension before pushing him away roughly. Yugi didn't even trust his only friends anymore, expecting them to backstab him the same way or different. He never allowed himself to be open anymore, for letting out too many secrets could mean disappointment. Hell, half of the school knew some of them, rumored by Mazaki herself. And everyone had always wondered why she hung around boys. She knew how to push their buttons, knew how to get what she wanted from them.

"Get away from me," he spat before turning and leaving the school grounds, head lowered and hands in his pockets. The blonde sighed, running a hand through his hair before turning to look at the three other boys and shrugging. He just didn't know what to do for him anymore. They all didn't.

"Tadaima," he spoke softly, coming through the entrance to the game shop. Yugi's eyes caught the sight of blood on the floor and looked up slightly, breath becoming caught in his throat before dropping his backpack and running over to the one person he could ever trust who was limp across the countertop, a knife in his aged back.........

******************** - six months later - ********************

Jounouchi rubbed his bleary eyes and looked at the red lights from his digital clock. Damn, 2:30. He yawned and logged off, shutting the computer down before undressing (O.O *drools*), leaving him only in his boxers as he slipped into the bed on the far end of the room. Six months had passed since he'd last seen his best friend. Some of the kids in the school had rumored that he'd gone insane. But Jounouchi knew Yugi better than that, better than to think the shorter boy had killed his own grandfather. Only there had been no trace of him when the sun rose and the blonde had gone to pick him up for school.

Closing his chestnut eyes, the room suddenly felt cold and he pulled the blankets up more, shivering slightly. Something was wrong, definitely wrong. Words were whispered into his ear, a cold breath brushing over his cheek before ghostly fingers gently trailed the curves.

"Boku mo aishiteru, Jou-chan. But the light you shine cannot save me from the darkness anymore. I have been chosen, chosen to drown this world in shadows. And it will be glorious, my Jou-chan. I shall return for you. I promise."

Jounouchi's eyes snapped open and a hand flew to the touch lamp, turning it on. Light flooded the room, but nothing met his gaze. No image of those amethyst eyes that had plagued his sleepless dreams for months. He knew the owner of that voice, that voice that held only malice, only cruelty.

"Yugi............ Boku mo aishiteru, Yugi."

END OF PRELUDE

Translations -

Boku mo aishiteru - I love you ["boku" being the boy's way of saying "I", aishiteru "love"]

Tadaima - I'm home

End musings: Well, that was pretty much the beginning of my new Yugi angst fic. You can just write so many about the little guy! *hugs Yugi* He can be so angsty sometimes. This is an AU. See if you can guess who the voices were? I'll give you a hint - three yamis we all know and love, two which are usually bent on either world domination or millennium power, one which is bent on protecting his hikari. Gee, that wasn't too big a hint now was it? I'd love your reviews (please do, some people read fics and don't review! I hate those kind of people! They are not worthy!) Sorry, I'm just babbling. Constructive critisism is welcomed and flames will be used to roast marshmallows to make s'mores.
