Chapter 17
Remember, “Until Death Do You Apart?"
---
“Aurora! No!” Jeto cried for his brother repeatedly, wanting him to get up, but the older teen just didn't move. There wasn't even a twitch of a finger. “You son of bitch! I'll kill you for this!”
Osiris faced the younger Kaiba with a smirk playing on his lips. “Oh really?” He snarled. “How are you going to do that when you're chained down?”
Jeto grunted in defeat. He gave one last tug on the chains for measure. “...my brother…he's dead…” His head fell forward in grief.
The lion passed the grieving teen into his cove. “Awe, don't cry kitty! From what your brother said, you have other brothers to care about.” He laughed loudly, his amusement echoing through the alleyways, scattering the rats into their hiding places.

Tet blinked. Was he hearing things? /Did I just hear a chimera laugh? / He lowered his window and stuck his head out then waited a moment before pulling back and leaned in between the driver and passenger's seat. “Hey, dad! I think I've found them!”
“What makes you so sure?” Seto asked, staring at his son from the corner of his eye.
“Cause I just heard a chimera laughing. If I'm not mistaken, it came from the west side of town.” Tet sat back in his seat and gazed at Tristan. “The laugh sounded strange, like one I haven't heard in a long time. Not very many chimeras can laugh…if they can it's sort of like a half roar.”
Tristan nodded. “Are you going to listen to him or not, Seto?”
Seto sighed. “I suppose we could check it out. Let's go Bast.”
Bast spun the vehicle around in response and grinned wickedly. “As you wish, sir!”
All three passengers could tell that Bast enjoyed his job a little too much as they grabbed on to anything for dear life.
“If my job doesn't kill me, I'm sure Bast will, dad!” Tet exclaimed as he accidentally slid into Tristan.
The detective groaned in pain from Tet crushing his right side, but not badly. He had to agree with the teen though. His line of work was less hazardous than Bast's driving.
Seto smirked. “Bast knows exactly what he's doing, so relax.” He tried to hide the fact that the action startled him as well. His eyebrow twitched slightly as he crossed his arms over his chest and gave a suggestive grin at the two dumbstruck, backseat passengers. “It'd also help if you buckled up.”
As they hastily drove down the highway, Tet kept his eyes open for a dark pathway that may lead to the kidnapper, Aurora, and Jeto. He gasped when he spotted one on the driver side. “Stop the vehicle!” He demanded.
Bast abruptly pressed his foot against the brake, sending Tet into Seto's seat with a soft thud.
Tet glowered. “Damn it all!” He stumbled out of the vehicle, but not before, he heard a snicker from the driver. He snorted and ambled into the alley. Tet slowly made his way down the passage, feeling what anyone felt deep in their gut when something was about to happen. He wiped the sweat from his brow as his breathing became heavy. “I know they're down here…I can feel it.” He stopped when he came across a split in two other directions. There was one on his left and one on his right, forming a T. He cursed under his breath.
Tristan came up behind the teen looking in both directions. “So which way?”
The teen kneeled when he noted some white fur heading to the right. He pointed in the direction it was heading to Tristan. “He's that way.”
“Okay, I'm calling for reinforcements.” Tristan turned away from the teen as he pulled out his cell phone and called the police.
Seto approached the detective and halted beside him. “Where did my son go?”
Tristan blinked in confusion. “What do you mean? He's right…here?” He frowned nervously.
The CEO growled. “Tell me, Tristan. Do you have any children?”
The man shook his head. “No.”
“Good! Cause I'd hate to think what would happen if you did!” Seto looked in both directions and then at the detective again. “Which way did he go?”
Tristan pointed to the right that Tet had showed him.
Seto nodded and started running in the direction his son headed.
“Wait! Seto don't go! It's dangerous!” Tristan murmured something under his breath as he followed pursuit. “I'm going to have to get another job, maybe as a chef.”
Bast shrugged and leaned back against his seat. “I might as well wait and have the Hummer ready if we need a quick getaway.”

Tet stayed further ahead to where Seto and Tristan couldn't see him. He came to a sharp turn on his left, sliding on his heel when he turned and still kept moving. He could see another alley ahead of him that turned left again. He slowed to a walk and pressed himself against the wall. “He's just around this corner. I can hear him snarling.” He searched through his coat pockets for his weapon. “Oh…shit! Someone took my Light Gesture!” The teen groaned in aggravation and rammed his fist against the wall. “How am I going to save them now?”
Jeto's ears perked to the sound of someone complaining. He shifted his gaze down the alley, straining to see through the darkness. He couldn't see anyone, so he or she must be hiding. He lifted his head to see if Osiris had noticed. Apparently, he hadn't. The lion was too busy gnawing on something he had found in a garbage can earlier this morning. The young teen searched the ground for the weapon his brother had earlier. It was lying on the other side of Aurora's body. A streak of sorrow shot up his spine, causing him to whimper slightly.
Osiris turned his head in Jeto's direction. “What? Still thinking of what I did to your brother?”
Tet stiffened when he heard the captor's voice. He peeked around the corner to get a glimpse of what he was going to fight. His eyes widened in astonishment when he saw the white lion slinking out from somewhere in the wall. It was Tet's first time to see a lion chimera, and it was a lot larger than any other chimera he had fought before. /Holy shit! / He noticed something at the corner of his eye lying on the ground next to Jeto's feet. /Oh…gawd…Aurora. / He covered his mouth and looked away in disgust.
The lion made his way back into the warren to finish his meal. Tet then made his way down the passageway, taking careful steps. He had to hold in his anxious breathing.
Jeto smiled when he saw Tet approaching him with slow steady steps. He hoped with all his might that Osiris would remain in the cove until Tet could get his weapon.
There was a slight rustle from the lion, but nothing more. However, it did cause both teens to hold their breaths in apprehension.
Tet kneeled beside Aurora's body, observing the deep wound. He tore his eyes away from the torment and reached out for his weapon. He became fully aware of the violent trembling in his hand. You weren't supposed to show fear in this line of work. Like any animal, chimeras could sense the anxiety from a human. He shook his head from the images to calm himself, but that was short lived when a hand grabbed his wrist. He didn't scream and he didn't panic. He just reached for the other's hand and held it warmly. “…brother?” He whispered.
The younger teen flinched from the action, but remained silent. /He's still alive? / His bottom lip trembled as he tried to hold back his tears.
Aurora cocked his head to where he could gaze at his brother. “…finish what I couldn't…” He murmured. “…I've become a failure.”
“No…” Tet shook his head. “You're not a failure, brother.” He grabbed Aurora's body and steadily sat him up against the wall. “Just…don't move. We can still get you some help.” He lifted Aurora's right hand and rested it near his wound.
“I wouldn't count on it,” Osiris growled. “Once I'm finished with you, I'm going to make sure there's not a single trace of hair or bone left from your bodies.”
Jeto gasped. He didn't even notice the lion crawl out from his den.
Tet glowered at the white chimera. “Not unless I finish you off first.” He immediately grabbed the weapon from the ground and aimed it at Osiris.
Osiris laughed. “You don't think that's going to work do you? I'm one of the fully evolved chimeras. I can dodge your worthless shots with ease.”
“I know that,” Tet stated. “Just by the way you walk, talk, and think, I know you're fully evolved. You can change at will. You must of have lived the sheltered life. Why do you kill?”
“I have nothing better to do,” Osiris leered. “I'm just one of those animals who got too much taste of the human blood.” He grinned menacingly, showing off his large canines.
“I'm going to send you to hell, you monster!” Tet clinched his teeth together in rage. “He couldn't stand chimeras that killed at their own leisure. Mindless killers are a different story.”
Osiris let out a roar as he lunged at Tet and landed on top of him. “Then you're going down with me!” He lifted his claw into the air, ready to slash at Tet's face.
Jeto screamed at the top of his lungs. “No! Stop it!”
There was a loud blast and then everything fell silent for a moment.
Osiris flung back onto his feet, holding his injured shoulder. “Damn you, chimera slayer!” He removed his hand to reveal a deep gash that pierced his shoulder all the way through. He growled disgruntled. “I guess I'm lucky I was really close, otherwise it would have taken all of me.”
Tet sat up, a relieved expression over his features. /I was almost a goner. / Just as soon as he stood, the chimera was up in his face and grinning.
“Well, well. You shouldn't look away from the predator, slayer!” Osiris smirked.
Tet tried to move away but Osiris quickly shoved him to the ground and ripped the weapon away from his hand just to have it disappear into the shadows.
“Now you don't have a way to destroy me, Tet!” The chimera opened his jaws and straddled the slayer's lap. “You're all mine!” He wrapped his jaws around Tet's arm and sunk his teeth into the flesh.
Tet screamed in agony and tried desperately to push the lion off. He screamed again, when Osiris' claws slashed his shoulder. He couldn't move with the lion straddling his legs. He used his other good arm and punched Osiris in the stomach, causing him to fall over onto his side in pain. The slayer leaped up to his feet and started searching for his weapon, which was too far to snatch, even if he ran for it. The lion was back on its feet in no time and tackled Tet to the ground once again, but face down.
Jeto's heart pounded against his chest. He was growing desperate from watching the unbearable situation. “…no…no…this can't be happening…” Then, as if his father smacked him for no apparent reason, he finally snapped. His outrage blinded his vision. He fought against the chains as they tightened around his ankles and wrists from the black fur emerging from his skin. His face extended into a cat's snout with sharp canines and whiskers that followed. His heels grew longer as did his claws. His brown hair melded with the black fur, giving him a main. He reared his head up and roared ferociously, his visible breath evaporating into the cold air.
A dark figure leaped into the alley from the rooftop and hastily made way to the trapped cat.
Jeto growled as the figure appeared from the shadows. It was Hasunuma.
“Its okay, Jeto. I'm here to help you.” She revealed an ax from behind her and swung it at the chains one at a time, snapping them all in half.
Jeto fell to the ground with a grumble and approached Osiris from behind. He lingered over the white lion, snarling loudly.
Osiris pulled back from biting Tet and peered over his shoulder. “Wha-?”
“I told you I'd kill you for this, Osiris!” Jeto sneered and then lunged at the lion, knocking him off Tet's back.
Tet looked up in astonishment. “J-Jeto?”
Both chimeras rolled on the ground, snapping at each other's neck.
With a loud growl, Osiris flung Jeto against the brick wall. However, it wasn't hard enough to knock him out. “I knew it!” Osiris exclaimed. “I knew I wasn't seeing things last night. You were a chimera!”
