Ryou fidgeted, tugging at his bowtie which was tied too tightly around his neck, "Marik! loosen it! I can't breathe!"
"Can't," Marik held a clasp between his teeth as he fitted his master's jacket to his body, "they said for me to tie at that mark."
"Who cares!" Ryou whined.
The Egyptian smirked, "No can do babe," he pinned the clasp at the back of the jacket between the folds he created, "Maybe if you gave me a hand job..."
"No!" Ryou spouted, "leave me alone!"
"Whoa! Ok ok!" he backed off, "I need to save my sexual energy for that hot cousin of yours anyways."
The pale boy flushed and turned away hotly. He's been like this since the night he masturbated; he couldn't bring himself to act casually around Marik, too disturbed by his thoughts about the mocha skinned teen. I'm not gay... he reminded himself again for assurance. Marik seemed to have noticed his mood change and hasn't tried to force Ryou into anything since then, as if slightly unnerved by his master's sudden change of behaviour.
The two stood there in silence in front of the full length mirror for awhile, tension mounting heavily in the air in between them.
"Um...come on...let's go," Marik said awkwardly, tugging on his younger master's arm.
Ryou nodded with a sullen expression and let himself be lead out of the room.
"Relax boy," Marik said softly as he pulled Ryou down the hallway, "no point in getting pissed at me now."
"Leave me alone."
The Egyptian stopped suddenly and dropped the boy's arm. Marik took some deep breaths, his sculpted shoulders moving up and down, before turning to face his master.
Ryou recoiled slightly in fear of getting hit; surely Marik wouldn't hurt him before his performance!
"Look, I'm sorry alright?" Marik's voice seemed strained, but he meant it. The last thing he needed was to watch his young master completely screw himself over in his grand performance; that and Marik knew that the Lord and Lady would interrogate him first if Ryou completely makes a fool of himself.
"You don't mean it," Ryou replied sulkily, taking great interest on the wine red carpet. He trailed his right foot along the material, watching it change to a darker colour as he drug his foot against the direction of which the long fibers were woven.
The older teen let out a long breath of air. "Look," he clenched his hands, glaring at the youth, "I said sorry, ok? I don't apologize everyday you know! If I didn't mean it I wouldn't say it!"
Ryou didn't want to admit it, but his servant was right, and he hated it when Marik was right, of which he usually was. For once the thirteen year old wanted to show he had just as much experience as the teen despite his age. "Fine...I accept your apology."
"Good," Marik seized the slender boy by the wrist again and pulled him along, "now let's go play your violin."
People began to whisper excitedly as Ryou entered the Grand Gallery. The luxurious room's walls were decorated with a pearl white colour swirled in gold, the curved strokes of the brushes slightly embossed by the thick paint. Romantic paintings hung from their respective places on the wall, accenting the size of the already vast room. Ryou felt his stomach lurch for a split second. Rarely did he get nervous playing for others, but the more he contemplated his failing eyesight, the more he began to doubt his abilities to play his violin memorized.
He remembered his mistakes with the teacher and trembled a bit. He looked around for Marik for SOME sort of comfort, but his servant had already taken his place in a corner of the room, like a servant should.
A small wave of relief washed over him, however, when the rogue Egyptian winked at him secretly.
A hush fell over the room when the Duke stood up to speak. He stood over his small son, powerful and domineering, "Ladies and gentlemen, before the party tonight I would like to provide you with some entertainment performed by no other than my pride and joy, my son Ryou!"
Applause followed the speech, some enthusiastic, some polite.
Ryou wandered slowly to the front of the great room, taking care with his steps. When he was a mere boy of 5, upon a performance he walked too fast and failed to notice a small lift in the carpet of which he ran upon. He stared at the circular blurs of peach colours, trimmed with blacks, browns and reds of hair. His precious violin was stuck underneath his nose by a servant, and dutifully he took it. The boy breathed, trying to stop his fingers from trembling; he was nervous, and horrified that he was nervous. What if he messed up? What would his mother and father think, what if...?
A flash of silver caught his eye and he felt a pit sink to the bottom of his stomach; Bakura. Just what he wanted to see before he played. It wasn't unexpected for his cousin to be absent, but this was the worst time to see him. Pretend he's not there...just pretend...
A melody, sweet and pure rose before him and the audience, penetrating through the last lingering noises of the room. It took awhile for Ryou to realize that is was the movements of his bow on strings that created such music. With fluid grace it moved about the room, filling it with its promising wonders and erasing from him his bitterness...
Bakura sauntered over to his younger cousin when the recital ended. He stood proudly, smirking at his relative, "Nice performance."
"Thanks," Ryou mumbled, glancing down. Bakura decided to launch a verbal attack as people began to stand and leave for the dining hall, the bustling movements and mixed voices rendering them deaf. "Was your boyfriend watching you, pretty boy?"
The smaller boy clenched his hands, "I'm not gay Bakura!"
"We're not living in the Middles Ages anymore for Satan's sake!"
Ryou flinched at the mention of the Devil.
"You're acting like those old homophobes!"
"Leave me alone!" Ryou cried, glaring as he stood from where he had sat to rest, his lip trembling like he was about to cry.
Bakura casually followed his cousin's gaze as the boy rose, when he realized there was someone behind him. He was taken by the sight. Before him, standing lazily with a bored look upon his face, was the sexiest guy he's ever laid his eyes upon. He cocked an eyebrow, his lips tugging into a crooked smile as he turned his attention away from his younger relative, "And you are...?"
"The boyfriend who was watching his pretty boy," the taller adolescent drawled.
"Really now?" Bakura's lips quirked a bit.
"Marik, put Ryou's violin away and then escort him to the dining hall."
"Yes, my Lord," the boy called Marik replied, much to Bakura's surprise as he followed his uncle's retreating back.
"So you were saying..."
"I lied." Marik picked up Ryou's violin, which laid beside the young teen and turned to return it to its protected stand.
"Shame, what a waste of goods," Bakura said slowly, drawing out its meaning.
"Ah, so you share the same thoughts I do."
Heat tingled delightfully between Bakura's legs; the feeling was mutual, good.
Ryou, not quite catching their indirect messages, but angered by being ignored nonetheless, sniffed loudly and announced, "I don't need you, you just clean up the room!" and he left, his small legs carrying him stiffly from the room.
"Spoiled brat, he acts like..." The older white haired boy said, pretending to be thoughtful.
"Only when he's mad, he likes to take his anger out by showing he has more power over someone; it's perfectly normal, he's only 13 after all," Marik said offhandedly, stacking up chairs, "it's no different from someone cussing their brain out when they rage."
"True." Though a servant, this dark skinned beauty seemed to understand situations more than he thought. "Let me help."
"No no," Marik waved his hand dismissively, "You're my master's relative and I'm his servant; I do all the work around here."
"Oh fuck the rules," Bakura stacked a chair, pushing on them until they fit neatly, "I've never cared much for all these archaic customs. This is the modern world!"
"Feh," The Egyptian snorted, "The world isn't that modern where I lived. Many women still hide their faces; men still are deemed to have more power. No, I would rather follow the old rules; I'm more comfortable that way."
"I don't care; I'll do what I want to, and I feel like stacking chairs."
"Do what you want then," with a grunt Marik hauled a large stack of chairs to a corner of the room, "just don't see it as helping me." He took note of his rumpling outfit, "Damn, I'll take care of these later. My Lord will have a fit if he sees me not properly attired in front of his guests."
Bakura smirked, "And what are you going to be up to after the reception hmmm?"
"See my Master to bed, put away these chairs and then go to bed." Marik knew immediately what the older cousin was about to suggest, but he was going to wait for the other to initiate it. And he was waiting eagerly though his face remained composed.
"Would you like to spend the night in a much fancier bed?"
Marik snickered to himself mentally, Aristocrats, so easy to understand… "I'd love to…how?"
"As long as you're serving Ryou," Bakura sauntered up to the taller teen, his arms snaking their way around the slim waist and his leg fitting between the other two, "how about serving me as well?"
Marik pulled away coolly, "Don't make me mess up my pants at so early in the day," he returned the smirk that Bakura had on his face, "I'll see you to your rooms after putting away the chairs tonight."
"Deal."
Pushing the last stack of chairs to the walls the two headed out of the room. What a little devil…Marik thought as he shut the doors behind him, at such a young age too…
He almost laughed at how much like an old man he sounded to himself. Bakura was in fact, only a year younger…
Ryou was stuffing himself full of cream puffs, calming his frazzles nerves when his servant and cousin arrived. Knowing his relative and Marik, those two together could be deadly. How annoying! He shoved another cream puff into his mouth, savouring the sweet taste as it melted in his mouth. Those two were probably going to have wild sex and-
He shivered and swallowed. No way is he thinking about that scene! Gross! Why do teenagers love doing that so much anyways?! If that's what being a teenager does to him, he doesn't want to grow up!
"You're going to get fat," said a soft voice from behind him.
He didn't need to turn and see who it was. "Yugi!" Ryou wiped his mouth before turning and flinging his arms around his friend, "I didn't even know you were here! Father said something about your families needing to attend some business and couldn't come!"
"I came late!" The boy said sheepishly, "My father managed to solve his problems with the king sooner than we expected so we caught a later jet over. How are you doing? Is your servant still giving you trouble?"
"No, he seems to have stopped fooling with me. But…" he leaned in and whispered, "he made me give him a blow job!"
"Omigod!"
"SHHH!!!"
Yugi lowered his voice, "Maybe you should get a servant your own age! And not gay!"
"I know, I was scared."
"Why won't you tell on him?"
"Well…"
"He can't threaten you, you know."
"I know but…" Ryou blushed slightly at a loss for words, "it was the first time…I think he was just desperate as he's always explained over and over…I don't think he'll try it again…"
"You're hard to understand you know that?" Yugi sighed, "My brother says how so many guys are… jack…erm…asses- Ooo! I swore!- and how they always just want sex. He said he'll kick your servant for you if he gets annoying again." He giggled, "Yami even says he's a ….jack…ass…sometimes because he's a teenager. He says at least he knows that though and is smarter that way."
"Marik sounds exactly like Yami describes him. Bakura too."
"Your cousin?" Yugi glanced around, catching the only other mass of white hair in the room, standing off to the wall, deeply immersed in conversation with Marik who was standing dutifully at his place. "Ugh! Those two together…no offence."
""No offence taken." Ryou squinted at his hands, trying to pick out if any icing was left upon them, "I know what you mean. Is your brother here?"
"Over there," the tri-coloured haired boy pointed to the opposite side of the room.
"Can't…see…" Ryou tried to focus his eyes, but if he can't even see the hands clearly in front of him…
"Do you see a blur of red and blond on black?"
"Ummm…." Ryou scanned fiercely, finally seeing a contrasting yellow and black in the crowd, "Oh oh! I see him!"
"He doesn't look too happy…too many people seem to be asking him things."
"He is going to inherit your dad's place as Baron soon."
"He still doesn't like talking to people."
"You mean old annoying people!"
"Shh!!!" Yugi and Ryou snickered. "He said once he turns 18 he'll no longer be a teenager but an adult and is extremely proud of that."
"I would be too if I were a teenager."
"I don't want to grow up," Yugi huffed, "and I'm already a teenager! At 14!"
"Most people really want to be a teenager too."
"Not me!" The smaller boy looked slightly irritated, "my brother says that when you're a teenager it feels like you're too old to be a kid but too young to be an adult so no one ever takes you seriously but you can never get away with things either!"
"I'm glad you're telling me this," Ryou joked, "now I will no longer look forward to being 14!"
Silently, Ryou wondered if there really was anyone who didn't want to become a teenager. Most people couldn't wait…but unlike most others, Ryou didn't want to grow up. Is it because he's been through more and understands what it is like to be one? Or is it just because…he was different?
"Just don't tell anyone what I told you," he suddenly blurted out urgently.
Yugi gave the white haired adolescent a quizzical look, "Why would I tell on you? I don't tell on friends everything we say is a secret!"
"Good," Ryou sighed, "sorry, no one else knows…what he did to me but you."
"Are you sure you don't want to tell? He can get fired…"
"No!" Ryou covered his mouth and tried to calm his sudden rush of adrenaline, "I mean…don't because then…well I know him best and he knows all about my eyesight and takes care of me fine and I'm sure he just got a little…wild that night and…just please don't let Father know." Ryou looked at the floor, slightly ashamed at his blustering before he continued, "Besides, he's the only person who really talks to me in the house, you understand that don't you? I don't want to lose that and get a stranger as a servant…he's been with me for years."
Yugi was silent for a while before a tiny smile of knowing passed over his face. Ryou was still just a bit too young to sort his mixed emotions out, but he could piece the meaning behind the jumbled words. The smaller teen may be still young at heart but his mind has been sharpened over the years of his brother's care and training.
"What?" Ryou inquired.
"Oh! Nothing," Yugi quickly hid his smile, "alright Ryou, just don't let him bug you anymore alright?"
"Alright…oh! They refilled the cream puffs!" He whirled and walked back (he wasn't allowed to run) as quickly as he could to the table from which they drifted away from, a small mountain of shoo cream pastries just waiting for him.
