Harry Potter and the Pharaoh's curse
Chapter 1
Duel Monsters
One hot summer's day on Privet drive in London England, Sixteen year old Harry Potter once again found himself awaiting the Daily Profit wizarding newspaper. Ever since Lord Voldemort had been resurrected during his fourth year at Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry, Harry had put in a monthly subscription to the paper so as to be able to keep updated on the Voldemort situation.
~Where is it?~ Harry wondered.
He was currently lying on his bed in the spare room of number four Privet Drive. Then he heard a flutter of wings. He quickly sat up expectantly. But all he saw was Hedwig.
"Welcome home Hedwig." He told the owl.
He then saw something tied to her leg. Harry relieved her of her burden opening the package.
Hedwig hooted in gratitude. In the package was a parcel of some sort and a letter. Harry opened the letter and read it before opening the parcel.
Dear Harry,
Happy Birthday! I hope those muggles aren't treating you too badly. Buckbeak and I are doing fine. I would tell you where we are but I don't want to mention it should this owl be intercepted. No luck on the Voldemort situation yet but I feel like we're really close. I've seen Remus but haven't had a chance to talk with him just yet. I really wish that I could at least be in the same country as you on your seventeenth birthday but duty calls. And to tell you the truth I would rather have you alive and see you on your eighteenth birthday than be in town for this one. Who knows? If Voldemort gets defeated then we can turn Wormtail in and I'll have my name clear! Then without worry of Voldemort trying to murder you at any given moment and if I'm not wanted anymore, maybe you'd like to come live with me? My offer's still open for acceptation. However I would understand if you would rather be on your own after your birthday.
Much love and good wishes
Sirius
Harry smiled. He had forgotten that today (July thirty-first) was his birthday. After today he would be starting his last year at Hogwarts! Then he would only have one year for Voldemort to be defeated or he would have to stay with the Dursleys.
"I think it's about time for me to take matters into my own hands." He told himself.
He began to formulate a plan but before he got very far he remembered the parcel that had come with Sirius's letter. He quickly tore off the brown paper it had been rapped in and opened the box. Harry starred in confusion when he saw what was inside the box. It was another box. Smaller this time. Inside this box was a deck of strange looking playing cards. They had Japanese writing on them and displayed odd-looking creatures. The first card on the top of the deck looked like a human. He was dressed completely in purple and was holding a staff of some sort. Harry was beginning to wish he knew how to read Japanese. Under the deck (which was placed on a royal blue velvet cushion) was another note.
Harry,
I found this in a shop where I'm staying. An old man was running the shop and had trouble telling me that I couldn't pay him in Gallions. Harry starred at the paper for a minute. Needless to say that Sirius had found these cards in a muggle shop. The old man's grandson (who apparently knows some English) told me that they were for a game called Duel Monsters. Now this didn't make any since to me, but the boy…Yuugi I think his name was told me how to play. He also showed me the best cards in the shop. The one on top, dressed in purple. Harry looked at the card, which was still in his hand. Sirius had been right. He was dressed in purple! Harry turned back to Sirius's note. He's the Dark Magician. Or at least that's what I think Yuugi called him. Yuugi told me that the Dark Magician is one of the rarest cards in their shop.
Well I certainly do hope you can find someone who can teach you how to play. Because I haven't the faintest idea how the game works. You see around this point Yuugi forgot that I couldn't speak Japanese and began babbling.
Well that's exactly what I'm doing isn't it?
Happy birthday Harry,
Sirius
Harry began giving the Dark Magician in his hand a closer look-over. He then laid it aside and began looking through the rest of the cards in his newly acquired deck. He wished he knew what they were called.
"BOY!" Someone called from downstairs.
Harry groaned even on his seventeenth birthday he couldn't escape the ever-watchful presence that was his aunt and uncle.
"WHAT?" Harry shouted back.
"Don't you use that tone of voice young man!" Aunt Petunia hollered. "We have new neighbors moving in today and I want you to be on your best behavior"
"Why don't you just leave me at home?" Harry asked. He was unwilling to miss the Daily Profit.
"Because, two of them are your and Duddly's age. They already know about your existence somehow and I don't want them to think we treat you like a freak."
"But you do treat me like a freak." Harry reminded her.
"But they don't need to know that!"
Harry rolled his eyes. Getting off his bed. He walked to the head of the stairs.
"Change out of those awful cloths." Aunt Petunia commanded.
"Why?"
Harry thought that his cloths were perfectly suitable. They consisted of black jeans, black boots, and an untucked black dress shirt.
"I don't want them to think your gothic or anything." Aunt Petunia told him.
Harry rolled his eyes again.
"You never seemed to care about my appearance before."
"Oh just shut up and come on!"

Seventeen-year-old Yuugi Motou walked up the walkway to his new house.
"Why'd grandpa have to move to England anyway?" His counter-part Yami asked.
"I already told you, I don't know!"
Yami sighed in defeat.
"So do you think there'll be anyone interesting in this place?" Yuugi asked.
Yami shrugged.
"Dunno."
After having put the box of things in his new room Yuugi headed back out to the moving van.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*
"Hurry up!" Uncle Vernon ordered pushing Harry ahead of the group.
"But why?" Harry growled trying his best to resist his uncle.
"Because I saw the older of those two and I think that you'd get along with him better than Duddly."
"I think anything could get along better than Duddly." Harry murmured.
"What did you say?"
"Nothing." Harry snarled.
When they reached the house which was a few doors down Harry didn't see why he'd had to come. He would have been very happy just to wait at home for his paper.
"Do you think their home?" Aunt Petunia asked.
Duddly just starred around looking stupid. Harry heard someone laugh and turned to see who it had been. There standing behind them was a short teen wearing blue jeans; a black tank top and a black leather dog collar. He had tri colored hair that was spiked into a fan like shape.
"Uh…could you please move?" The boy asked.
"I told you we shouldn't be here!" Harry snapped.
"Bite your tongue boy." Uncle Vernon snapped back.
The boy shook his head.
"Oh no! I didn't mean you had to leave it's just that this box is really heavy." He said indicting to the large cardboard box he was carrying.
Harry and the Dursleys quickly jumped out of the way.
The boy headed for the door then stopped and smiled.
"Oh by the way. I apologize for my rudeness. I'm Yuugi Motou."
Harry gasped.
"Yuugi Motou?" it was just like in Sirius's letter. "Do you live with your grandfather?"
Yuugi nodded carelessly.
"Hey Aibou? What do you want me to do with this?" A voice asked from behind them.
Yuugi sighed and turned.
"What is it Yami?"
"It's the left over stock from the game shop."
Yuugi looked relieved. And began to continue into the house.
"Put it in the basement." Yuugi called.
Then Yami came running up the path carrying another large box. He took no mind to Harry or the others but just went inside.
"Who was that?" Harry asked.
Yuugi stepped backed outside.
"Don't pay attention to him." Yuugi said smiling. "Yami's going through an…er…difficult in his life."
"Oh…okay." Harry agreed.
Yuugi ginned at Harry's utter bewilderment.
"Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, would you like to come inside?"
The Dursleys nodded quickly and rushed inside. Harry hung back with Yuugi, who was starring in shock after Harry's relations.
"Sorry about them." Harry muttered.
Yuugi smiled.
"That's okay. I'm used to having weirdoes hanging around. I was always the smallest kid in my school and generally got beat up a lot by students who were bigger than me."
Harry was in shock. It was like the story of his life.
"Same here…" Harry said astonished.
Before Harry had begun his education at Hogwarts, and also before he had become a public idle to the wizarding world, he had always been picked on by people who were bigger than he, although most of the time it was just Duddly.
Yuugi gave a short nervous laugh.
"Weird." He said.
Harry was absolutely amazed by this strange Yuugi Motou.
"So…" Yuugi said awkwardly, "You wanna come in?" he asked.
Harry nodded and stepped into the small light blue house.
"Wanna come on up to my room?" Yuugi asked.
Harry nodded again and followed Yuugi up the stairs. Inside Yuugi's bedroom, sitting on one of the two beds was the older youth Harry had seen earlier that day, Yami Motou. He was shuffling through a deck of cards with one leg dangling off the edge of his bed. Harry recognized the back of the cards as the game Sirius had sent him that morning.
"Hey aren't those cards for that Duel thing?" he asked.
Yami's crimson eyes shot up to meet Harry's green ones.
"Monsters." He corrected.
"What?" Harry asked startled. This was the first word Yami had said to him.
Duel Monsters. Not Duel thing as you so rudely called them." Yami snapped.
"Sorry!" Harry scoffed.
"Yami remember what I told you on the way up here." Yuugi said in a warning tone.
Yami growled in distaste but he merely turned back to his deck.
"Sorry about him." Yuugi said turning back to Harry. "He's very passionate about dueling."
Yami grunted.
"Yami, he won the Duelist Kingdom tournament. Thus named King of Games." Yuugi announced. "So Harry," Harry had told him his name on the way upstairs, "Do you Duel?"
"Well not really." Harry admitted blushing.
"Then how come you knew about it?"
"My godfather sent me a deck, but I don't know how to play."
Yuugi's grin widened.
"Well if that's the case then I know the perfect person to teach you how."
"Who?" Harry asked for the second time that day bewildered.
"Yami!" Yuugi called.
Yami's eyes flickered up dangerously from his cards.
"What?"
"I have a new student for you." Yuugi said happily pointing to Harry.
Yami sighed.
"Okay I could use a fresh opponent to crush." Yami said a small dangerous smile curving his lips upward.
"But I don't know how to play!" Harry countered.
"Learn the way I did. Play from experience." There was a glint of power and malice behind Yami's crimson eyes. "So break out your deck and let's get this show going.
Harry attentively removed his dueling deck from his pocket.
Yami smirked.
"DUEL!" He shouted.
[LP: Harry/2000::Yami/2000]
"I'll start things off." Yami said, holding a card up in his hand. "Celtic Guardian, defense mode." [Celtic Guardian: 1400/1500]
"Defense what?" Harry asked in confusion.
Yami sighed.
"Each monster has an attack and a defense. The weaker monster loses. Attack monsters cause offensive damage and cause defensive damage as well. All clear on the rules? Oh yeah. First person to obliterate their opponent's Life Points loses."
Harry nodded; not having the faintest idea what was going on.
"Umm… I play the this card in attack mode." Harry said praying that was a good move. And by Yami's look of astonishment he guessed it was. [Cosmo Queen: 2900/2450]
"Where the hell did you get a card that rare or powerful?" Yami asked in disbelief.
"I already told you. My godfather gave my deck to me." Harry said defensively. "I can't even read Japanese! I don't have a clue what's in here."
"Harry? You might want to attack now." Yuugi suggested.
Harry nodded.
"Attack Celtic Guardian." He commanded.
Yami looked slightly annoyed by this turn of advents. He drew his cards and smiled mysteriously.
"I summon the Dark Magician in attack mode." He said. [Dark Magician: 2500/2100]
"Yami that was a terrible play for this situation." Yuugi commented dryly.
"I'm not finished yet Aibou!" Yami snapped. "I equip my Dark Magician with the magic card Malevolent Nuzler. This magic card raises my attack strength by seven hundred points! Raising my Dark Magician's attack points higher than your Cosmo Queen." [Dark Magician: 3200/2100] "Dark Magician, Dark Magic Attack! The Dark Magician destroys your Cosmo Queen. That lowers your score by three hundred points!"
[Harry: 1700::Yami:2000]
Harry sighed.
"I play this green card!" Harry proclaimed.
He lay down the Swords of Reviling Light.
"No way! Where are you getting all these great cards?"
"I'm not done." Harry mocked Yami. "I also play this other green card. I've always been a fan of uncontrollable lightning!" Harry said grinning. "Oh and I think I'll summon a Dark Magician of my own." Harry seemed pleased with himself.
Yami starred in horror at the magic card Ragiki.
"That card has the power to destroy all monsters on your opponents side of the field…" Yami murmured as his Dark Magician was destroyed. "The Dark Magician was the strongest card in my deck…there's no point in continuing this. I think you get the idea." Yami said placing his hand over his deck.
"Hey what are you doing?" Harry asked.
"When a duelist places his or her hand over their respective deck it means he or she has forfeited the duel."
"Forfeited?" Harry repeated quietly.
Yami stood and left the room.
"Yami wait!" Yuugi called after him, following. He turned back to Harry. "I think maybe you'd better go now." He told him. "It was nice meeting you Harry."
Harry nodded. He stood and headed for the door. As he passed the kitchen Aunt Petunia called after him:
"Where are you going?"
"Home." Harry growled.
He walked down the street and through the door of number four. He headed up the stairs and slammed the door to his bedroom. Upon entering the room he saw the Daily Profit on his pillow. He ran over and grabbed the paper and opened it to the front page. His eyes widened when he saw the main headline.
Murder killed by Dark Lord
Wanted murder Sirius Black was found dead by a forest in Albania.
Magical doctors say he was killed by the dreaded Avada Kerdavera curse.
Who would sink so low as to use an unforgivable curse even against Black?
Only one person, Lord Voldemort.
Those close to Black before before joined the Dark Side will surly mourn his death
Harry couldn't believe his eyes. Sirius…dead? How soon had this occurred? How long had it taken Hedwig to find him and get back home? Questions such as this were whirring around in his mind. Harry could feel tears welling up in his eyes.
"I'll miss you godfather…" he murmured.
Harry hugged his pillow and let his tears fall freely. Hedwig tried her best to comfort him but he batted her away. Just then an owl flew through the still open window and landed with a small flump next to Harry. It made several weak attempts to bounce around the room but finally gave up. Through his streaming tears Harry recognized it as Ron's owl Pig. He removed the letter from Pig's leg and it took of with much energy.
Dear Harry,
I'm really sorry about Sirius. I know this won't make you feel any better but my great aunt Feonia died last month. Well anyway, thought you might need a break away from the muggles so mum asked Dumbledor and he said he thought it was safe for you to come for the rest of the summer. I hope you'll come and that we Weaslys can get your mind off certain things.
Hope to see you,
Ron
Harry smiled a little. Poor Ron, he really tried. But he just couldn't help but be his bumbling self. Just then a tawny owl flew in and dropped a letter at Harry's feet.
Harry,
I'm really truly sorry about Sirius. Have you gotten Ron's own yet? I'm staying for the rest of the summer. It's like my mum always says. 'There's strength in numbers Hermione'. Well I just thought I'd try to cheer you up. Again, I'm really sorry about your loss.
Hope to see you at the Burrow,
Hermione
Harry gave another weak attempt at smiling. Hermione with her constant jabber. He sighed and allowed himself to fall back onto his pillow. Once again his tears fell freely.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*
The next day at the Motou residence:
Yami and Yuugi were eating their breakfast of cereal and orange juice. When an owl flew through the open kitchen window. It dropped something that, much to Yuugi's dismay, fell into his Cheerios. Yuugi groaned when he realized that this new development disabled his eating ability with his breakfast. Yami tenderly picked the note out of Yuugi's cereal and made an attempt to read it.
"What's it say?" Yuugi asked.
"I have absolutely no idea." Yami stated.
To be continued…
Mistress: Was that a very bad idea? I hope not. Oh well R&R!
