For those who find it weird that I'm not calling Joey, Jounouchi, I am sorry, lol, cause I am very attached to Joey, it just gots me. ^-^;; And I figured I better just keep his name as Joey or I might slip sometimes, you know? Anyway, just bare with me. Note: I very much prefer the name Anzu than Téa. :P
"Heal Me"
Chapter 1
Anzu Mazaki smiled happily as she entered the serene scene that was her living room, her hand going to her waist to scratch a small itch. She was wearing a blue turtle neck sweater that fit cozily on her cruves, regular flare-like blue jeans on.
She walked over to the balcony of the apartment her and her mom lived in, the cloudy end of October sky warning everyone that things were going to get chilly and strangely enough, it was already pretty chilly outside. Usually, it didn't get remotely cold until well into December.
She shrugged idly though, going back into the reason she was so happy. Her mom was on a business trip out in New Orleans for a whole week or possibly more, it was the best thing to Anzu cause whenever she got home, she rarely got peace, her mom was always either talking on the phone loudly or blasting her music to do some new Yoga exercise. It was all very irritating. Yeah, she loved her mom alot and they never really fought, they more or less just went on with their own lives.
But for Anzu, peace and quiet was the ultimate key to enlightenment. She giggled to herself, deciding a nice walk would do some good, grabbing her jacket by the door and heading out onto the sidewalk.
As she stepped on various spots on the pavement, she thought about what she might do tomorrow since it was Saturday and all. She figured she could go to the library and check out a few good books to keep her busy, that was one thing she treasured, sitting on the couch, and reading a book. Though, for some reason, something always seemed to be missing when she did this, and she could never find out what.
She sighed, taking a deep breath of the cool air, eyes gazing out at the lake that lay in their park, but something else also caught her eye. Sprawled on a bench a good twenty feet in front of her was a boy with a mop of golden hair.
Joey??
She quickly rushed over to him, gasping, trying to figure out where she could even touch him, he looked broken all over. Her blue hues quivered when he opened his eyes, pained chocolate orbs resting on her. "An--zu?" He croaked.
"Oh, Joey!" She wailed, sitting beside him heavily, her fingers lightly touching his arm. "Don't worry, you're going to be ok!"
He only closed his eyes again, taking the time to breathe, but it was a labored task.
She looked around, trying to see through the tears that blurred her vision. No one was around. No one. She frantically looked back down to Joey, getting her face close to his so he could hear. "Can you walk with me Joey? Or are you too hurt?"
He only frowned a bit, nodding his head.
She paid close attention to his wounds as she picked him up, placing his arm around her neck, her hands gripping his waist as she led him to her apartment that wasn't but a few blocks down the street. She made notes that his legs didn't seem to be broken or his arms, he was just really banged up, though that wasn't exactly any better.
They had a hard time with the stairs, but finally managed to make it into Anzu's home where she laid him on her living room futon, about to get up and scramble for things to bandage him with, but he weakly grabbed her wrist. "S-tay." He whispered, squeezing his eyes shut.
Anzu slowly kneeled by him, taking his hand and holding it gently. "What happened to you, Joey?" She whispered to herself more than to him, her heart breaking.
After a few minutes, she noticed he had finally managed to fall asleep, so she softly removed his hand from hers and scampered lightly into the bathroom and kitchen, grabbing what could be used.
Once she had everything piled on the coffee table, she went to work, taking great care with the cuts and bruises and even more with the larger ones.

Joey's eyes fluttered open as he felt the sun's morning rays fall on his face, his eyes shifting downward to the figure beside him. Anzu, he thought warmly, lightly running his thumb over the top of her hand, her fingers wrapped around his.
She stirred a bit, but didn't open her eyes, just snuggled a bit closer to the futon, her head lightly resting on his side.
He trailed his eyes down the white bandages that covered his arms, noting he was still in his dirty T-shirt and tattered school pants, his jacket laying on the ground nearby.
He almost forgot about the fact that he felt like he had been hit by a train, but it came searing back when he tried to move his legs, causing him to hiss and arche his back in pain, Anzu waking up.
She sat up quickly, looking a bit dazed but gasped. "Joey, you're not suppose to move silly!"
He gritted his teeth, but relaxed as she ran a gentle hand over his chest, whispering softly. "Joey? Who did this to you? Can you talk about it?"
He looked at her through half-lidded eyes, then at the back cushions of the futon. "You won't tell anyone will you?"
"Uhm um." She said, slowly shaking her head back and forth. "Not if you don't want me to." She seemed a bit remorseful though.
Joey hesitated, looking back to her. She only smiled lightly, taking his hand and giving it a small squeeze.
He pursed his lips. "M-my father--he did this."
Anzu's brows slanted into an angry look, but at the same time, a hurt one. "When did this start?"
"When I was seven--when my mom passed away."
Anzu's mouth slightly gapped. She couldn't figure out if she wanted to slap him or hug him. "Why didn't you tell anyone, Joey?!"
"I-I couldn't." He said, closing his eyes. He then made a painful move to sit up. "I think I'll go now-"
Anzu put her hands on his shoulders, forcing him to lay down again. "Where?! Back to your father?? It's cold out, I don't want you to catch anything! Plus, what if he just beats you again?? You might not survive one of these times!!" She cried, tears springing from her eyes. "I was so worried about you! Do you know how worried I was?? I couldn't sleep all night! And-and I refuse to let you leave that front door! Not like you are-" She was hushed when he put a finger to her lips.
She frowned, pushing his hand away and sitting on her tucked legs, her face going into her hands, muffled sobs present.
Joey sighed, managing to sit up and hug her. "I'm sorry, Anzu. I didn't mean ta worry ya so much. I promise ta stay until I get better."
"We need to get you somewhere to stay." She said in a stuffy voice, sniffing. "You're not going back to your house, ever!" She pretty much demanded.
Joey pulled back slowly, making her look in his eyes. "I have ta, Anzu."
"No you don't." She squeaked.
A warm smile spread across his lips and he lightly brushed a hand across her cheek. "You worry too much. Relax, I'll be fine. I'm Joey." He stated matter of factly.
"That's what worries me." She sniffed, trying to smile.
He grinned. "If you're really worried---I guess I can find somewhere to go."
"Yugi probably wouldn't mind." She suggested.
He shook his head. "Then I'd have ta tell him. I don't want him ta know. If he ever found out, he'd be throwin' twice da fit you are."
She frowned again. "I'm sure he'd understand! You don't need to be going back to what you live in! I won't let you." She said firmly, crossing her arms.
Joey laughed lightly. "Fine den, I'm hungry, what da ya gots ta eat?"
Anzu rolled her eyes, she was pretty sure if he was ever at a funeral and he got remotely hungry, he'd interupt everyone just to fill his gut again. "I don't have anything really, I was planning to go to the store, can you wait for like thirty minutes?"
Joey's eyes widened. "Thirty minutes?!"
Anzu stood up flapping her hands to her sides. "Ugh! You and your belly!" She headed into the kitchen, coming back with a whole 2 liter of coke and a can of pizza flavored pringles, almost throwing it at him, but remembering his state. Though as she approached to hand it to him, a large smirk formed on her lips.
Joey had his hands outstretched to her, wiggling his fingers, but she was still about a foot from his reach. He was unable to stand up much, seeing as the bruise that had formed on his leg last night had practically mutated into a bigger one. "Why'd ya stop, get over here!" He whined.
Anzu spouted off a string of giggles, waving the two snack favorites just out of his reach.
"Dis isn't funny! Come on, I'm hurt and you're just takin' the time ta laugh at me!"
She laughed a bit louder, but stopped, humming as she leaned forward, his hands able to grasp the items, which he took greedily and held close, glaring at her.
"Piggy."
"Meanie!"
Anzu rolled her eyes. "Try to make that last and I'll try to hurry, be back soon." She told him, walking to the front door, grabbing her jacket, but before walking out, she turned to him. "Piggy."
"Meanie!" He cried before she could completely shut the door.
Anzu rolled her eyes yet again as she journeyed onto the sidewalk. Joey, ah, what could she even say about Joey? He was basically--Joey. A small smile formed, her eyes gazing to her feet. He was one of her best friends and she loved him, yep, she loved him, not in that kind of lovers way, though she knew there was a bit of that in there somewhere. She preferred to deny it alot of times. As she was idly blabbing to herself, she wasn't watching where she was going, so she ran into someone. "Ah, sorry!" She quickly spat out, stumbling back a bit.
When she looked up, Seto Kaiba stood before her, though he didn't seem to look like himself. "Hm, watch where you're going." He mumbled awkwardly, trudging forward, his steps a bit wobbily.
She blinked, her brain functioning the fact that his skin had seemed rather pale and as much of a jerk as he was at times, she couldn't help but worry, so she turned around and walked the few feet he had managed to cover, tapping him on the shoulder. "Are you ok, Kaiba?" She preferred more in calling him by his first name, but the last time she had, he'd gotten a little more than touchy.
"I'm fine you stupid girl." He replied rather tiredly. "Get lost."
Anzu furrowed her brows. "You don't look like it, can I walk you home? Are you sleeping? What are you doing out here?" Ack, there she went again. She just cared way too much! Ugh, and about Kaiba too, but hey, she was sure if anyone else saw him like this, they'd be curious too. Besides, Kaiba could be referred to as a friend in her book seeing as he had helped Yugi out over the past year.
He looked at her, annoyance clear in his icy blue eyes. "I said get lost!" He growled, raising his voice, but it didn't seem like this was a good idea, for he winced and stumbled forward. He most likely would've fell if Anzu hadn't balanced him.
"Please don't be stubborn. Just let me take you home, Seto." Whoops, that slipped, oh well. She put his arm over her neck even though he protested, but she guessed he was really out of energy, cause it didn't last long.
As she walked him slowly back to his mansion, she was wandering why he was like this, and what Joey would say if she got home later than told. He'd probably eat the kitchen table.
When she rang the doorbell by the gates, no one answered, so she just pushed them open, seeing as they weren't locked and made it to the front door. The whole process reminded her completely of when she had to get Joey to her house.
She had to stop for a moment and find Seto's house keys, before entering the mansion and sitting him on the couch, completely dumbstruck by the fact he had no maids around or anything. She figured he would have people everywhere.
Seto emited a low groan, sitting back on the couch, his eyes remaining closed.
Seeing as he wasn't in a state to argue with her, Anzu put a hand to his forehead. He was clammy and cold, not to forget, his face was still pale. So she picked up his hand, pulling his sleeve back to take a pulse only to find red dampened bandages. Her eyes widened and she looked up to Seto. Either he was asleep or resting his eyes, she couldn't tell, but she guessed he had fallen asleep. So, given the opportunity, she gentle unwrapped the bandages, her jaw dropping. She wanted to look away and vomit, but she held her gaze on two large gashes in his wrist, they seemed finely slashed, so the only thing she could come up with---was that he had cut his wrists. But why? Why would he do something like this?!
She shook her head, placing a hand over her mouth and quickly getting up, playing nurse once again.
When she had him laying down on the couch, around three blankets covering him and his wrist thoroughly bandaged, she looked to her watch, proud she had done this all fifteen minutes tops, which left a quick ten minutes to get to the store and home before Joey got worried and tried to get up.
She grabbed Seto's keys, gazing worriedly at him, intent on returning when she was done with her errands.
While at the store, her mind still raced at the fact that Seto would go and slit his wrists, why?? Why? That was all that went through her head. And why was all this madness happening around her?? And to her friends none the less! Agh! She then sighed heavily, wandering if she had placed enough blankets on Seto. He'd lost a good amount of blood from the looks of it and therefore he would need as much heat ensuring material as he could get.
When she finally entered the her home, Joey practically screamed in excitement. "Man! You took forever!" He cried, digging through the bags of groceries she had set before him on the coffee table, though he looked away when he noticed her heading back to the door. "Where ya goin'?"
"I just found out I have to babysit my friend's little brother, I'm sure you can get along for a few hours without me?" Anzu smirked, looking to the food.
Joey seemed reluctant to have her go, but shrugged. "Alright, be careful den."
Anzu nodded. "Ok, piggy. Don't try going anywhere."
He only glared at her playfully, digging back in the bags.
* * * *
Anzu sighed as she reentered Seto's mansion, guessing this was the most she had walked in one day. She turned around to the living room couch, blinking when she noticed no one was there. Where'd he go?!
She would've screamed if not for the hand that roughly covered her mouth and the other that shoved her into the wall. She was frozen in pure terror as blazing blue eyes met hers. She couldn't help have the shit scared out of her since she'd been so rudely grabbed and all.
"What do you think you're doing?" An icy and threateningly low voice hissed at her.
Anzu realized by now that the person was Seto, but she was still scared, if looks could kill, she'd be a smoldering pile of ashes. "I-I was just worried cause uh--you were hurt and I-" She squeaked, whimpering as he narrowed his eyes. "S-Seto-" Another mistake, she cried out in pain as his hand painfully tightened around her wrist.
"How dare you just waltz into my house!" He growled angrily.
Anzu felt her instincts start to set in as anger seeped through her veins. She pushed away from him, glaring. "I'm sorry! I just saw you walking on the sidewalk and you didn't look too good, so I helped you out! You should be grateful, you could of died!!" She shouted.
"Why should you care?!" He shouted back.
"Cause maybe I'm human and decided 'hey, that guy doesn't look too good, maybe he's hurt!!!!'"
"Don't you get smart with me!" He hissed, stepping closer, just wanting her out of his house. He knew she was Anzu, he'd seen her plenty of times hanging with the care bear bunch and if anything, she was the freaking leader. Having HER in HIS house wasn't all too pleasant, neither was waking up on a couch, blankets practically sufficating you. "You should have minded your own business, Mazaki!! Now get out of my house!"
Anzu stomped her foot angrily. "FINE! That's the thanks I get for saving your ass!! Oh oh, wait! Let me ask YOUU something Mr. C-E-O!! Why are you cutting your wrists?? Can't be an accident can it?! What if you died?? What would Mokuba do, Seto?!" She ranted, ignoring the fact she'd said his first name. He could just damn well deal with it!
Seto seemed to go a bit rigid when she mentioned the whole wrist-cutting thing and he quickly tried to walk up the stairs, but she blocked his way.
"I'm not leaving no matter what! Tell me why!"
"It's none of your damn business!" He hissed. "Now get out of my house before I call the police!"
"Tell me why!"
"I said GET OUT!"
"WHY?!"
"BECAUSE I LIKE IT!!" He shouted suddenly. "I like feeling the pain, seeing my blood as it runs over my fingers!! I like knowing that I'm still alive, that I'm not just dreaming." He said, his voice going to a whisper at the end, his pupils becoming smaller for a moment. .
Anzu watched him with wide eyes. "That's stupid Seto. If you think you're dreaming, just come to me and you can see you're not!!" She cried, slapping him harshly across the face. "Does that hurt?! Does it?! Well I hope it does you stupid idiot!!" She quickly wrapped her arms around him, hugging him tight. Her cheeks flustered and her eyes glossy. "You could've died! Do you not comprehend that?!! Mokuba would have been grief-stricken, I would've been grief-stricken---even Joey, and especially Yugi!!" Not to mention, where was Mokuba??
Seto's face was still turned to the side from the force of the slap, his eyes staring out across the living room, his body unmoving. He couldn't find words or it was the fact that if he tried to say anything, his voice might crack and tears of his own would fall. He clenched his fists tightly. With her arm so protectively around him, he felt vunerable to his emotions. He wanted her to leave, leave him alone. But the seven year old inside him wanted to stay in this warm safety, knowing the fact that someone cared. Cared so much--even though he was so cold.
Anzu was about to say something else, but she took a sharp breath of air, surprised when Seto's body seemed to go limp in her arms and his own arms hesitantly wrapped around her body, both eventually sitting on the floor, embracing each other.
Her gaze softened as she felt the light shudders wash over his shoulders, her right hand softly rubbing his back. "It's ok." she whispered, feeling his hands clench the back of her jacket. "It's ok."
