Work he did. Duel Monsters seemed to get more and more popular. The prediction of disappearing fads never lived. It had changed from his original intent, but it still kept his purposes. Only things that had changed was were the cards were going. It was no longer an isolated thing. Everyone played the game. Little kids, grown ups, rich people, poor starving college kids. There wasn't a place in the world that hadn't heard of Industrial Illusions. His was a household name. His game was an unnatural phenomenon. It had become so popular they even started holding tournaments. Those contests had originally been his idea. It wasn't really for the fun of playing either. It was to keep working. To keep working in order to forget faster. In order to forget those eyes.

Pegasus had tried so hard to wipe a set of icy blue eyes from his memory. That was really the only thing he had left. He had already forgotten the name and the face that went with them. He knew there must have been a dammed good reason why he forced himself to forget. For some reason, it was better not to remember. He just didn't remember why. One day, Pegasus hoped to rid himself of those eyes as well.

Memory was a slow thing to erase. Not he wasn't going to let some nagging memory stop him from functioning. He could continue like he always had. He still watched his favorite show. He still read. His preferred reading material were comic books, but every once in a while, he'd pick up a newspaper. Today had been one of those days. The headline had caught his attention. “Rich CEO dead from fall.” No big deal really. Businessmen were always committing suicide. Until the picture caught his eye. A picture of a large man sprawled broken on the ground. Above him, a shattered window. There was a tall shadow in that window. It was slender and obviously masculine. Though just a silhouette, it radiated coldness. The sheer frigidness of the shadow in the picture made Pegasus shiver violently. What made it worse was he knew that house. He had been there once.

Morbid curiosity made him read on. Nothing much that the picture didn't already show. The man was indeed Gozaburo Kaiba. Pegasus couldn't help but smile. A fitting end for a horrible man. Though they had only met once, Pegasus never did like the man. The article claimed it had been an accident. Pegasus knew better. Any fool with half a brain could tell that the man in the shadow had thrown the man out the window.

The report was followed by the atypical excerpt on the Kaiba Corporation. What it did. How much money it had. A little about newly developing technology. Then a name caught his eye. He couldn't help but read it out loud. “Survived by his two sons, Mokuba and Seto Kaiba. Because of cooperate bylaws Seto will take over the family business.”

Those names rung a bell. Especially the second one. For some reason, all he could think about were those eyes again. Only, he didn't know why. He didn't remember ever meeting this Seto kid. For a fun experiment, he called up his computer. “Do a search...” He paused. Why did that name sound so familiar? “Subject: Seto Kaiba.”

The computer sprang into action. There was only one machine faster in the world. Only one computer better, and it now belonged to the person he was presently running a search on. “Subject found.” The computer chimed.

Pegasus looked at the screen. Usually, there was a picture to go along with the text. Somehow, no picture presented itself. But the information he needed was there. That was what was important. He didn't need to see the kid to know about him. As he read, he wanted to kick himself. No wonder the name sounded so familiar. Seto Kaiba was the reining Duel Monsters World Champion. It seemed the boy never lost. Ever. That was an interesting prospect. This boy might just have one of the Millennium Items. That would explain the winning streak. But there was another explanation for his wins. Pegasus had almost fell out of his chair when he saw the readout of the cards Seto played. He scrolled up just to recount.

The kid owned not one but three Blue-eyes White Dragons. Three! There were only four in existence. For someone to have three of those four was rare. More than rare. It was practically impossible. And even more impossible to control those beasts. To control a Blue-eyes meant the boy had skill. Lots and lots of skill.

There was only one sure-fire way to check. That was to see this boy in person. He himself was going to play in a competition soon. It would be simple to invite the resident undefeated world champion. No one would think anything of it. That way, when the boy came, Pegasus could see if the kid indeed had one of the magical items he sought. If so, he'd just take it. If not, they could still discuss business. Even after all this time, Pegasus wanted to get his hands on Kaiba Corp technology. Being new to the world of business, Seto Kaiba wouldn't know what hit him. The boy was a sitting duck either way. This was going to be the easiest take over in existence.

He sent the message right before he left. Pegasus knew the boy would come. Who wouldn't? No one turned down Maximillion Pegasus and got away with it. So the kid would be there. Besides, no self-respecting duelist would miss a chance to watch the Duel Monsters creator go head to head with the infamous Bandit Keith.

Pegasus almost felt sorry for Keith. Because, he wasn't about to lose. Not with his chosen guest there. And definitely not to a man who called himself a bandit. And really, Pegasus didn't have to worry about Keith at all. If he had to, he was more than prepared. He had the Millennium Eye to give him an edge over the competition. Sure, using magic to further your goals could be considered cheating, but as the saying went, all was fair. This was most definitely a war.

***~~~***

Maximillion Pegasus arrived at the stadium late. He had meant to. That way, he could make a more impressive entrance. And at the same time, he could search the audience for Seto Kaiba. His good eye landed on the chair he had set aside for the boy. It was empty. That made the white haired man a little angry. The boy had refused his invitation. No one had ever refused him before. He did understand that the kid might still be grieving over the loss of his father, but he could have had the decency to write him back.

Bandit Keith took his place at the card table. Everything hushed quickly. Pegasus smiled at the burly man. Keith smiled back. The man was rather rough around the edges. He had the look of a biker. He was handsome. Pegasus could admit that. But the bandit wasn't his type.

He was about to make his first move when his type walked into the stadium. The boy was in his older teens. He could tell that kid was in high school. It was blatantly obvious. He still wore the Domino High School uniform. He was slender, yet Pegasus could tell he was also well built. The boy's smooth stride spoke of years of fighting. And his face. The boy was most undoubtedly the most handsome thing he had ever laid eyes on. That face was serious and perfect in every way.

Pegasus tried to watch the boy and play cards at the same time. He needed to see where this angel sat. So, as he watched, he played games with poor Bandit Keith. A little word play here and innocently placed card there. But the games were making Keith angry. “Stop playing around and take this seriously, Pegasus.” He growled.

Pegasus put on his most innocent face. “But I like playing games, Keith.” His good eye remained glued to the game play after that. But that did stop him from watching the boy. From under the fall of white, he used the magic of the Millennium Eye to keep track of him.

“My angel seems to be looking for someone.” He muttered, crestfallen. Knowing his luck, the boy was probably looking for his girlfriend. Whoever that girl was, she was very lucky to have his angel.

Pegasus shook his head. He had to laugh at himself. Here he was, not even knowing the teen's name, and he was already thinking of him as HIS angel. Though, angel didn't really fit the boy. Angels were supposed to be androgynous, blond beauties. The teen was a very fine specimen of man and he had short, rich chestnut colored hair. It swept forwards, almost half covering his eyes. His eyes....

“Your move. Pegasus.” The voice brought him back into reality. “Pegasus, are you even paying attention to the game? You're just playing with me again aren't you!” Bandit Keith demanded.

Pegasus got over his shock quickly. Just to be shocked a second time. His angel was sitting down. Sitting in the chair set aside for Seto Kaiba. There was a bored expression on his face. Almost like he wanted to be anywhere but there. That boredom never reached his eyes. Those eyes were cold. Distant. Icy. They were also the most vivid blue he had ever seen.

Those eyes. Eyes he had tried so hard to erase. Memories he thought had vanished came back. The beautiful boy playing chess. He had indeed grown in to fine young man. Feelings returned with those memories. Pegasus didn't have to quelch them now. He allowed the lustful thoughts to run free. After all, the little boy was all grown up now. Grown up and legal. But not only that, he had grown into Pegasus's dream man.

Keith was getting visibly annoyed. Pegasus seemed to be distracted by something. He had stopped playing games. In fact, he had stopped playing the game in question. He just sat dazed. In the dazed state, he had laid down a very weak card.

“You're getting sloppy Pegasus.” Keith stated.

Pegasus smiled briefly and took out a sheet of paper. For a moment, there was a flash of gold from his hidden eye. “I needn't play anymore. A child could beat you. In fact...” The man trailed off and pointed to the crowd beyond where Seto Kaiba sat.

The boy's stony expression never changed. Even as he led the kid he had picked over to the table. Handing the child the paper, Pegasus said, “Just follow the instructions, and you'll win.” Then he returned, to take an empty chair beside his ever-growing obsession.

The youth was even better looking up close. Full, kissable lips, nice strong body. It took all of Pegasus's will power not to grab the boy right there. The want to touch Seto wouldn't be suppressed. He made brief contact with the boy, accidentally stroking his hand, in an effort to get more comfortable. That brief contact gave him chills. Those pleasant chills turned frigid when the boy crossed his arms over his body defensively, and aimed a smoldering glare his way. It seemed that was Seto's only magic. Those gorgeous eyes. He didn't have an item. That was good.

“I'm glad you took time out of your busy schedule to accept my invitation.” He started, once he found his voice.

“Cut the crap, Pegasus. I'm not here to play games. What do you want?” If it were possible, Pegasus could say that the young man was more imposing and much colder than his predecessor. It seemed that there was nothing left of that little boy he had seen playing chess. Absolutely nothing.

Pegasus forced a smile. Something must have made the boy like this. He wanted to get to the bottom of it. As much as he liked the sheer sexiness of the coldness, he didn't want it. Love. Passion. Those couldn't be shared with such a cold individual. Though rationally, it could be a reaction to his father's death. “First, I'd like to offer my condolen..”

“I don't want your pity, Pegasus.” Seto snapped. “He died. It's over with. Kaiba Corporation now belongs to me.” No sadness, no remorse. Not even guilt. It was like Seto Kaiba was quoting a weather forecast. Pegasus had a sudden suspicion about the figure in the picture. The shadow by the broken window. Not that his angel would do such a thing. Seto might act cold, but he was too gorgeous to be a murderer.

“That's what I want to talk to you about. Your business is rather large, and you're so very young still, Kaiba-boy.” Pegasus didn't know where the nickname had come from. But it was either that or call him what he'd been thinking. The way Seto reacted to that name indicated that he would have taken much worse to being called “my angel”. Then again, Pegasus remembered how much he had hated being called a boy. Really, Seto was young. But not too young. He was the perfect age, especially for what Pegasus wanted to do to him.

“Running a business is such a big responsibility. I could help you out and remove some of that responsibility. Remove that burden from those handsome shoulders of yours.”

The teen blinked. Had he heard right? Yes, he had. Pegasus had called him handsome. Buried deep within his psyche, emotions tried to flare. Seto had too much control for that. The emotions, all of them, were repressed almost before they were ever born.

Pegasus didn't miss the brief flash though. For a second there was something there. The old Seto. The little boy. The angel. Then the angel froze again. He was beginning to realize he hadn't fallen for a man. He had fallen for a walking iceberg. Or more correctly, a standing iceberg.

Seto seemed to hover over him for a second. His was close. So close, Pegasus could feel the boy's light, calm breath hitting his face. So close their noses almost touched. Close enough for a kiss, had he leaned forwards. “Like you said. Kaiba Corporation is my company. My responsibility. And no one is going to take it away from me. No one.” Then the boy left, not even bothering to congratulate the winner of the tournament.

It seemed that the white haired man had done something to see the cards Keith was about to play. Seto didn't understand how, but that ability was a dangerous one. But, the teen could be three times more dangerous than his favorite cards. The master of the Blue-eyes White Dragons would definitely be looking into the creator of the game he liked so much. The man reminded him of someone he'd met a long time ago. From a time he's rather not remember. Anyway, Maximillion Pegasus was definitely someone to look into.

Pegasus presented the winner the trophy. His mind wasn't there anymore. Neither was his heart. His heart had left with the boy. His thoughts were all centered on Seto Kaiba as well. Everything was centered on the angel stalking out of the stadium. “But I don't want Kaiba Corporation. I want you Seto Kaiba. I want you.” He muttered.
