Chapter 11 Merik's Plot
“D'is aint good,” Joey said as Arina left the café.
“What are we going to do?” Serenity asked her older brother.
“Serenity, You and me will try to find Yugi and tell him what happened,” Joey said running to the door, “And Ryou, You go and try to slow her down.”
“Gotcha,” they said left the café and split up.
Ryou ran for a little but then slowly started to walk. “So the spirit of the millenium bracelet has awaken?” he said in a cold harsh voice without the accent, “Since she is new to the modern world, this might be an excellent time to acquire one of the more powerful millenium items.” He said and took out the Millenium Ring and started tracking her down with it.
Arina/??? walked around the streets of Cairo, `So much has changed in five thousand years,' she thought, looking around. Though she was looking at all the new and wondrous sights, she kept her guard up out of habbit.
Slowly she began to grow bored then something caught her eye, a sign that said “Our past revealed.” Curiously she entered the building the sign was indicating. She gasped, this building contained items from Pharaoh Atemu's reign! She recognized everything with a scowl.
“Archeologist, Ishizu Ishtar, has recently found this mummy” a woman wearing near a glass case was saying. “We call it the `She Demon' because according to this tablet,” She indicated to a stone tablet, “ one of the pharaoh's bodyguards, who was female, betrayed him by helping plot his murder and assist in a number of cruel acts. Including wiping out a whole fleet of his more loyal guards” the woman look at a group of nearby listeners, “But she was killed in the end by the warrior named Jono. He became the pharaohs number two, and died in high honor. Now over here you'll see-“
Arina/??? walked over to the glass container and blinked. Inside was herself, but as a mummy. She recognized the scar on the mummy's midriff as where that fool of a guard, Jono, had killed her. She clenched her fist out of anger.
She fiddled with he bracelet, it was very uncomfortable seeing herself dead, when she knew she was well alive.
Suddenly there was a bright light and she found herself standing in the air above a cave that was beautifully decorated. She looked around, priest were carrying he body, covered in blood, to a table. And behind that table was-
“Set,” She whispered to herself, eye growing soft.
When the priest put her body on the table set looked at it and started to weep into his hands, and did not stop for quite a while.
“He did love me…” She said, reaching out to stroke his face, only to find she could not reach him.
Set stood up, “Prepare her for the ceremony.” His voice croaked.
She smiled sadly, he still honored her by burring her properly.
“Is everything okay?” a priest asked, concerned.
“Jardina was my love…” Set said, eyes cloudy and unfocused slightly, “And now she is gone from me.” He turned around, “But I will keep my promise that we will meet again….I swear to Ra I will…”
“How?” the priest asked.
Silently Set put something in a vase nearby, “You do not need to know…”
Then, with another flash of light, she found herself looking back at her mummified body.
“I know who you are, Jardina,” A voice said making her turn around and scowl at herself for being caught offguard.
She saw a sandy blonde male standing in the shadows, “Who are you and how do you know my name?” she asked, glaring coldly, instinctivly reaching for her non-exhistant daggers at the side.
“My name is Merik,” The blonde smirked, “And I know you for I have been raised on the scriptures, even going through a painful ritual which inscribed the pharaohs memories on my back.” His eyes seemed to grow cold at those last words.
“Why should I care?” Jardina said walking toward the door, “All I did was try to kill him. I could care less about his memories.”
“Because I know how to get your love back.”
She froze at those words, “How?” she turned to look at him.
“Why should I tell you?” Merik said, looking her in the eyes, voice taunting. He was enjoying tormenting her.
“What do you want?” She asked scowling again, leaning against a wall.
“I want you to kill the pharaoh.” Merik answered.
“Sorry, but the last time I tried it ended unfavorably for me,” Jardina gestured toward her mummy.
“But this time you have an advantage,” Merik replied calmly.
Jardina raised an eyebrow, “What is it?”
“The one who's body you share,” Merik told her, “She has become friends with the pharaoh's host, giving you a easy target.”
“Why do you want the pharaoh to die?” She asked him, “He seems to have many enemies each with their own reason of hating him.”
“Because I want the power that should have been rightfully mine,” Merik snapped, but Jardina wondered if their was another reason.
“So if I kill the pharaoh, you'll help me get Set back?” Jardina said, looking into his eyes.
“Exactly.” Merik replied.
Jardina thought for a moment. “Fine, I'll do it.” She answered leaving.
Somewhere in Cairo a woman sat in shadows, “little does Merik know he's right in the palm of my hand,” She laughed coldly, “simple, simple ego-centric idiots.”
End Chapter.
