Chapter 1: Talking About It
Serenity entered Domino High School, and walked over to her friends like usual. She greeted Mokuba, who waved her over. “How are you doing?” She smiled and gave him a hug like she did every day.

Mokuba answered, “I’m doing fine,” before hugging her back. Mokuba’s girlfriend, Maria, came over and he kissed her on the cheek. Serenity smiled at the two, looking forward to this afternoon. She was going to go to Mokuba’s house because she needed to talk to him about something.After school was over, Serenity and Mokuba got into his mustang and headed to his house. After they got there, they got their books out of the car. They went into the house and put their stuff down in the living room. They were greeted by the maids as they entered. Mokuba greeted the maids like old friends, while Serenity smiled at them. They both changed, Serenity into a bathing suit, and Mokuba into swimming trunks, before heading out to the pool. Since it took Serenity longer to change, Mokuba went on out to the pool. A little while later, Serenity emerged, her bathing suit covered by a long shirt. “Why are you wearing a shirt? Are you scared that I’ll see your body?” Mokuba asked.

Serenity shook her head. “I just want to wear a shirt.” She smiled and pushed him in the water, jumping in after him. They both came up and he grabbed her around her waist tightly, making her flinch a little. “What’s wrong?” Mokuba asked, his slate eyes filled with worry for his friend.Not answering the question, Serenity got out of his arms and exited the pool. Mokuba noticed bruises on her legs as she climbed out. “Serenity, What happened to your legs...?” Mokuba got out as well, following her to one of the chairs. They both sat down.

“Nothing.... I fell down some stairs.. That’s all...” Serenity lied, feeling extremely guilty, and hoping he would believe it. She hated lying, especially to her best friend.

Due to their closeness, Mokuba could tell she was lying. “You’re lying to me Serenity... I thought that we didn’t keep secrets from each other...?”

Serenity sighed. Knowing that she had been caught, she began to tell the truth. “Fine... My father... He beats me... and rapes me...” To prove her statement, she stood and took off the long shirt, exposing her bruised and beaten body. Serenity then sat back down, looking down into her lap, avoiding his eyes.

“Oh my god... Serenity...” Mokuba whispered, getting up to hug her.

She backed away from him, completely over-reacting and yelling hysterically, “I look horrible! I’m disgusting! You think I’m horrible looking, don’t you?” She ran into the house, and scooped up her books before running out of the door of the mansion and all the way home. After getting home, she went straight to her room. Later that night, her father entered her room, and did the same thing that he did to her every night, beat her and rape her in a drunken rage. He was such a kind man before, when he was sober, but now, since her mom left him, he was always drunk. She cried herself to sleep that night, feeling miserable over the fact that she had confessed it all to Mokuba, her best friend. She had long stopped crying about being raped, she just took it. It was now a daily thing that she could not escape.

Serenity woke up the next morning, slowly crawling out of bed, her aching muscles slowing her progress. She got into the shower, letting the warm water wash over her body, massaging her sore body and cleaning it of dried blood in various places upon her body. Stepping out of it, she dried her hair and body before getting dressed and heading off to school. After getting there, she avoided going over to her friends, trying not to see Mokuba at all that day. She quickly fled to her locker, thinking that no one had seen her. However, Mokuba had, so he followed her. Reaching her locker he asked softly, “Why didn’t you tell me before...?”

The auburn-haired girl thought to herself, Damn... before turning to face him and sighed. “I didn’t think it was any of your business...” She was trying to be honest with him now. What the two teenagers didn’t know was that Maria was around the corner, watching and listening. After having noticed the look upon her boyfriend’s face before he followed Serenity, she decided to do the same to him. “Mokuba, I really don’t want to drag you into any of this.” Serenity added quietly.

Mokuba stepped closer to her, protesting her decision. “I don’t care, Serenity. I will drag myself into it if I have to, because... Serenity Wheeler... I love you...” His voice was a near-whisper, but it could be heard in the empty halls.

Maria gasped silently as she stared at her boyfriend, her eyes filling with tears. She immediately ran off, leaving the two alone as she went to find somewhere to cry. Serenity was just as shocked as Maria was. “I... um... you have a girlfriend!!”

Mokuba nodded. “But... I don’t feel for her the same way I feel for you... Sometimes, I just think she’s with me because of the money. You’re different... you don‘t care how much money I have... you‘ve made that pretty clear...”Serenity leaned her back against her locker, looking down at the floor. “I just don’t think it’s right, Mokuba... I mean, we are best friends. And Maria... she’s my next closest friend after you and... and... I can’t do that to her, it’s just WRONG!”

The raven haired teen in front of her shook his head. “No, it’s not... Not when you love someone!”

Serenity turned away from him. “It is when you’re betraying one of your friends...” She then ran away from him, wanting to end the discussion.
