I carry Ryou into the apartment, saying good night to Malik and Marik and slipping around a curtain into the room that I usually stay in. The studio apartment is large and Malik and I made 'rooms' by putting up opaque curtains. There are five medium sized rooms in all, and since I spent so much time with Malik before this assignment, I had my own room here. More than once I've considered moving in with my best friend.
I set Ryou down on the bed, first working off his boots. I set them on the floor and stand, staring at Ryou, not sure what to do next. The boy shifts, his tank top riding up slightly, and I sigh. Off it goes. After his shirt is off, I close my eyes, count to ten, then open them again. I reach down and my hands shake as I unbutton his pants and slip them off of Ryou's long white legs. He's wearing tight black silk boxers, and I thank the gods for that small blessing. I go into the dresser on the other side of the room and grab one of my tee shirts to dress Ryou in for the night. The shirt is much to big for the small boy, it could pass for a dress.
After I'm finished, I flee the room, finding Malik in the kitchen with his lover, both sitting on the counter, sharing snacks.
"I don't think I can do this anymore, Malik. I want nothing more than to jump the Prince and it's not fucking fair that I have to go and fall in love with the most unattainable of our kind."
Malik and Marik stare at me for a minute before Marik jumps off of the counter and opens the fridge, pulling out vodka and cranberry juice. "You need a drink, my friend. Sit down and explain in full."
I look at Marik and smirk. "You can mix drinks?"
"My lover does co-own a night club and he works the bar regularly. 'Sides, I used to mix them for my sister."
"Thanks kid. Make is strong, please."
I sit down on the floor and lean up against the counter, across from Malik, who chooses to sit on the ground also. "So, 'Kura, explain."
"I'm supposed to be protecting Prince Ryou, making sure that nothing and no one will hurt him. I've been following him around for the last 6 months, okay, I've seen him undress, shower, eat, sleep, hell, I've seen him jack off, and never has he been less than perfect. He's a fucking angel, and I want him. I want to sit down and talk to him for hours on end. I want to hold him and tell him how fucking gorgeous he is. I want to make him come and watch him during the after glow. I want him to be mine. My lover. Who is gonna protect him from me? My affections are dangerous and you know it. I shouldn't have feelings for him, he's a born royal, our lost Prince, the savior of the vampire race." Marik kneels down and hands me the drink, which I take and down half of.
"Why can't you be with Ryou-chan, Bakura-san?"
"No matter what you ever hear, Marik-san, opposites never attract. Besides, he is expected to marry, provide our race with a princess. And I don't know if he's even gay, let alone attracted to me."
Marik laughs. "Oh, he's gay alright, and any sane gay boy would be attracted to you. And it doesn't matter if the two of you aren't alike. If love knows no gender, then love knows no personality, right? As for him marrying... They can't force him to marry, can they?"
Malik shakes his head. "Jyhad would never force his son to go through a marriage that he didn't want. And Jyhad and Bakura are friends, as are Caitiff and Bakura. They both would be over joyed if you and Ryou became lovers, and you know it."
I rub my hands over my face and groan. "I don't know how to go about asking for him from Jyhad and Caitiff. I mean, what if they take it the wrong way?"
"Ba...Kura-san?"
My head whips up and I stare at Ryou, who is leaning against the door frame, hair mussed and eyes half lidded. Well, speak of the devil. I wonder how much of that he heard.
Marik jumps up. "Oh, Ryou-chan! You're awake! Would you like something to drink?"
Ryou smiles at his friend. "Yes, please."
I motion for Ryou to come to me. "C'mon, Ryou-sama, sit."
Ryou walks over to me and sits next to me, very close. Marik hands the boy the drink and goes back to sit on Malik's lap. "Thank you, Marik."
I turn to Ryou, who is sipping at the spiked cranberry juice. "Are you feeling alright, Ryou-sama?"
Ryou sets the drink down and nods. "Yes, thank you. You can call me Ryou, you know. Just... Ryou."
"Okay, but only if you stop calling me 'Bakura-san'."
Ryou rests his head on his knees and smiles. "Deal."
"Are you two done flirting?"
Ryou glances up to glare at his friend, bottom lip sticking out just slightly. "We weren't flirting, you nymphomaniac." The boy begins nursing his drink again, still looking terribly tired.
"Ryou-sam... Ryou... Are you sure that you're okay?"
"I can't believe that I said that to my father. I can't believe it. For seven years I have cowered in fear of that man, then... I'm rescued." He sighs, then giggles. "He looked so pissed. God, I would have loved to get that on tape."
I laugh and lean my head back against the cabinet. "Well, my Prince, he won't bother you anymore. I'll make sure of that."
"I feel more like a princess than anything else right now."
Marik laughs. "You look like a princess, Ryou-chan."
Malik flicks his lover on the ear. "He does not. Ryou-sama is simply very pretty, in a very feminine way."
"Like that's any better?"
"Yes."
"You're sexy in a very feminine way."
"I am not feminine."
"I still called you sexy."
Ryou giggles at the antics of the two blond Egyptians sitting across from us, toying with his mussed hair. "Marik, you gave me alcohol, didn't you?"
Marik's eyes grow wide and he jumps up. "No! Of course not, why would you think that?"
"I've been tipsy before, I know how it feels. I think I'm a bit tipsy. You spiked my drink, you little strumpet."
Marik grins at me and begins to drag Malik out of the room. "Well, I'm tired! Night you two!" He reaches the door and mouths to me. 'Have fun, Bakura-san.'
Ryou buries his head in his hands and shakes his head. "Blasted evil friends who know that I have no tolerance to alcohol." I laugh and Ryou looks up at me, cheeks flushed and eyes slightly clouded. "What's so funny?"
"You," I answer back honestly. "You're cute."
"No I'm not."
"Who're you looking at in the mirror? Ryou, you're fucking... beautiful."
The boy stares at me, with those big doe brown eyes and rosebud mouth coupled with his flushed cheeks. How could someone so beautiful think that? He makes me want to just pin him down and kiss him.
"Bakura-san... are you hitting on me?"
I laugh, catching my bottom lip in my teeth, biting my lip. "What would you do if I said yes?"
"I don't know. I think I'd like it if you did though."
"Why?"
"Cause you're attractive... Handsome, sexy. You saved me from my father- Viktor. You're like my prince. Prince Charming. You protect me. You make me feel safe and warm and... and... pretty. I like you. Lots."
"I like you too. I've liked you since the first time I laid eyes on you. But that 'like' has changed into an entirely different sort of 'like'."
"Whaddya mean?"
"I was there when you were born because your mother wanted to make me your godfather. I was fond of you from the start."
"Can you tell me about my parents?"
I lean over and wrap my arms around Ryou, pulling him into my lap. He stiffens in shock, but almost instantly melts into my embrace, returning it. "Your mother is a beautiful albino woman, who is strong willed, brave and wise. Our whole race loves her because of her kindness, but no one messes with her because she can really kick ass.
Your father is tall and pale, with blond hair and brown eyes- you have his eyes, but yours are more gentle. He is strong and courageous, and listens to no one, except your mother. He would die for her and vice versa. Caitiff has him wrapped around her finger too."
"How did they meet?"
"Caitiff wanted a child, as did Viktor, but try as they would, they couldn't have a child. Viktor was sterile. Caitiff ran from him that night, and stumbled upon my nightclub, where she proceeded to get shit-faced. Later that night, after we had closed, I found her crying in the bathroom, a wreck. I took her down into the coven and into a spare bedroom, where she told me how her husband could not give her the child she asked for. Apparently, she had married him simply because it was expected of her to, and all she wanted was a baby. She fell asleep and I watched over her until she woke. We were then about to leave the coven when Jyhad happened upon us. It was love at first sight. They began courting, and then, soon after, it was discovered that she was pregnant. Seven months later, she began to move out of Viktor's house, demanding a divorce. Viktor tried to kill her, but thankfully, Jyhad saved her from him. She was badly injured, and went into labor. We did everything we could to save her, but she was dying, so Jyhad changed her as she gave birth to you. Because pure blooded vampires think hybrids like yourself are a discrace to the Vampire race, you might've been killed, so your mother cut off all contact with you when you were five."
"Bakura?"
"Hm?"
"Will you sleep with me tonight?"
I blink, looking down on Ryou. "What?"
Ryou blushes and laughs nervously. "N-not like... like that! I meant, like... Will you stay with me tonight? In the same bed, nothing sexual, I swear!"
I grin and hold Ryou tighter. "I won't mind if you try to molest me."
Ryou's blush deepens and he ducks his head. "O-Okay."

I lay down in the bed, eyes glued on Ryou, who is standing next to the bed, playing with the hem of the shirt he is wearing.
"Are you going to lie down?"
"Y-yes."
Ryou slips into the bed with a quiet whisper of fabric, laying close to me, but not as close as I'd like, so I pull the boy to my chest, curling around him. "Good night, my prince."
"G-good night, Bakura."
Ryou rests his head under my chin, letting me smell his hair. Roses. I wonder what body wash he uses? His arms wrap around my middle tentatively, and I smile. I certainly 'like' Ryou.
I certainly, certainly do.

I wake up to feel someone poking my cheek, and someone whispering in my ear. "'Kura, wake up, c'mon, please?" I open my eyes, to glare at Malik, who pokes me again. "In case ya don't remember, you haven't fed in quite some time. C'mon, we need to get you blood."
I begin to sit up before realizing that I have a little angel asleep on my chest. The boy has his face resting against my collar bone, and he is lying almost completely on top of me. "Malik, I think I can wait..."
"Get your ass up, 'Kura. I'll warm up some of the blood I have in the fridge, and I wanna talk to you." Malik leaves and I sigh, slowly shifting under Ryou. I set the boy down on the bed and stand, lingering for a bit longer before following Malik into the kitchen.
My friend is standing near the stove, stirring a deep crimson liquid in a small pot. The scent of blood becomes evident, and my fangs lengthen instinctively.
"Don't need blood, do you?" I glare at Malik, who just shrugs and turns off the stove, turning to pour the warmed blood into a tall glass. "Drink up, Kura."
I snatch the glass from him and lean against the counter. "So, what did you want to talk to me about?" I put the glass to my lips, slipping the intoxicating liquid slowly. My heart flutters slightly, and I quickly drain the glass, willing away arousal.
"Well, when I was in bed last, I was thinking about you and Ryou-sama. The two of you seem as different as night and day... Or... Yami and Hikari." My head snaps up and I narrow my eyes at the blond. Yami and Hikari. Darkness and Light. Two halves of a soul. It was a belief among many years ago that each soul had two parts residing in two different bodies, and the two halves of the whole would one day meet and become one. Malik had been especially interested in this little belief. He liked the thought of having a soul-mate somewhere out there. "I mean, 'Kura, think about it. It's like you guys are meant to be together! And, shit, he likes you! He likes you! 'You make me feel safe and warm and pretty?' You can't say that there isn't something there!"
"You were listening in on my conversation with Ryou?"
Malik grins. "Well, Marik convinced me to." I sigh and shake my head, muttering. "Go in there and kiss him, then tell me that there isn't something between you!"
I glare at the man. "I am his protector and he is my charge!"
Malik gives a frustrated growl and throws his hands up. "I give up! You're such an asshole!"
I raise my eyebrows. "You realized this when?"
"When you went and fell in love then decided not to do anything about it!"
"Who says I'm in love?!" Malik closes his eyes and shakes his head, obviously annoyed with me. I lower my voice to a whisper, staring at my feet. "Ryou was raped by Viktor, Malik. He lost his virginity to that monster, and an intimate relationship with me, of all of the fucked up people in the world, isn't the best idea. Again, I'm supposed to be protecting him. I can't let my emotions get in the way."
" 'Kura, I couldn't think of a better person for him than you. You know how much pain he's gone through... And still, the Prince is as pure as snow, even after everything. You can show him the pleasure of making love! Something that he has never felt, 'Kura. I'll tell you something, he's still a virgin in my eyes."
I slip down to the floor, shaking my head. Whatever argument I had was just killed. "I'm a coward, Malik. I don't want him to hate me."
I carry Ryou into the apartment, saying good night to Malik and Marik and slipping around a curtain into the room that I usually stay in. The studio apartment is large and Malik and I made 'rooms' by putting up opaque curtains.
