I Got U

Bakura smiled down at his hikari. They were sitting on the sofa together, Ryou leaning against Bakura's left side, his head resting against Bakura's chest, sound asleep. Bakura's left arm was wrapped around his shoulders, his hand gently stroking the boy's snowy white hair. It was true, he loved his hikari. Even though they got off to a rocky start, Bakura grew attached to the boy and grew to love him. He wasn't super protective of him or anything, just made sure that no one dared to hurt his hikari or threaten him in any way. If someone did, they usually ended up in the Shadow Realm.

Ryou felt much safer now that him and Bakura were so close, and it also helped since Ryou's father was always away on archeology digs in Egypt, so having Bakura around for company was great. He loved Bakura, even at first when they didn't get along so well. Bakura himself never physically hurt Ryou, but he didn't do much to protect him either.

All that changed during Battle City. Bakura had slowly been coming around by then, his feelings for the boy growing. He could tell these Rare Hunters were up to no good, and he wanted to keep Ryou safe from them. True, the Rare Hunters were said to be only after the three Egyptian God Cards, but Bakura knew better. He knew from talking with the leader of the Rare Hunters, who was out for one particular card, the only card capable of beating a God Card. The Pyramid Of Light card. The same card Ryou's father had brought home for him after one of his digs.

Bakura knew that if word got out that Ryou possessed that card, he'd be in danger. Bakura told this to Ryou, and insisted Ryou give him the card so they'd leave him alone and go after Bakura himself instead. Ryou was touched that the spirit of the Millennium Ring cared enough for him to put himself in danger to keep his hikari safe. Ryou gave the card to Bakura, though reluctantly, as he felt he was putting Bakura in danger, but Bakura had Shadow Magic on his side, and Ryou knew that.

Now Bakura was faced with another problem; What would happen to Ryou if something happened to him? Who would look out for him? Who would protect him?

Bakura looked down at Ryou as he stirred a bit, pulled away from his thoughts. He smiled slightly as Ryou curled up against him, hugging him around the waist, before settling back down contently. Bakura chuckled slightly as he remember what he did in order to keep Ryou safe, and the reaction he received from the Pharaoh.

'Oh Ra... I really hope I made the right choice,' Bakura thought to himself, walking slowly around the room, which was made up of many stairways and doors. It seemed like an endless maze to Bakura, and he was having second thoughts as to wether or not Ryou would be safe here. That is, until he found his way out from that room, and saw another door across the dark hallway. He opened it slowly, smiling as it looked like an ordinary bedroom, only with toys strewn around the whole room. That made Bakura feel a little better. Just a little.

"What are YOU doing here?!"

Bakura spun around, the door snapping shut. Before him stood Yami, the spirit of the Millennium Puzzle, arms crossed over his chest, a look to kill on his face. Bakura couldn't help but smirk. "Well hello Pharaoh... long time no see."

"Can it Robber," Yami growled, angered that someone was in the puzzle who didn't belong, even more angered that it was the Thief King himself. "Now tell me, what in the name of Ra are you doing in the Millennium Puzzle?!"

By now, Bakura looked serious. "Alright look, I don't mean to.. impose on your Puzzle and all, but I'm sure you're aware of all that's been going on lately, with those Rare Hunters after the God Cards and all..."

"And what has that got to do with you being in my Puzzle?!" Yami demanded. Bakura rolled his eyes, "I'm getting to that!"

"Well I met up with the person who runs the Hunters, after he almost ran me over with his stupid bike. Anyway, he mentioned being after the God Cards, but also the one card that can defeat the God Cards." By now, Yami looked interested. "There's a card that can defeat the God Cards?" he asked, looking a bit interested. Bakura nodded. "Yes. The Pyramid Of Light card. He's after that one as well. He claims that once he has all the God Cards, he wants to have the Pyramid Of Light as well, just to ensure no one can use it against him."

"Makes sense..." Yami trailed off thoughtfully, "But what does that have to do with you being here?"

"Well, remember when Bandit Keith dueled against Yugi? Then he smashed the Puzzle, and Ryou was there to help him-"

"And let me guess, it was you all along?" Yami guessed. Bakura nodded. "Yes, it was. True, I did give all the pieces of the Puzzle back to Yugi, except for one. I used that piece and the powers of my Millennium Ring, and transferred a part of mine and Ryou's soul into that piece of the Puzzle. I only did that because of this," Bakura paused, showing the Pyramid Of Light card to Yami, who's eyes widened considerably, "Ryou's father came across it while on a dig in Egypt. He gave it to Ryou, but once I heard the Hunters were after this card, I made Ryou give it to me. So they'd come after me and not him."

"You really did that for Ryou?" Yami asked, his tone softening as he realized Bakura must really care for his hikari afterall. Bakura nodded, "Yes, I did. You can asked Ryou yourself if you don't believe me. Also, I transferred a part of mine and Ryou's soul into the puzzle, because I wanted to know Ryou would be safe. I did take the card from him to keep him safe, but what would happen to him if something happened to me? He wouldn't have anyone to look out for him, to keep him safe. So I figured if he had access to the Puzzle, then you and Yugi could look out for him for me. I just needed to know that Ryou would be safe, even if something were to happen to me. So he'd at least have you and Yugi to be there for him."

By now, Yami almost had tears in his eyes. "Bakura... that's... that's so... so heroic of you. You put yourself in danger to keep Ryou safe, and if something were to happen to you, you made sure Ryou would have somewhere to go and someone to look out for him..."

Bakura couldn't help but smile at that memory. Yami had agreed to protect Ryou in the event something happened to Bakura. Bakura also told Ryou of that plan, even showed him the memories of his talk in the Puzzle with Yami. Ryou was overwhelmed with emotions. He couldn't believe someone would got to such lengths to keep him safe. But Bakura loved Ryou, and would do anything to ensure his hikari's safety.
