Nine Ladies Dancing

It was the eleventh of January, and the hype of Christmas and the New Year had slowly subsided. Malik had returned from Egypt, Jou was back at work, and Ryou had been applying for different colleges like crazy, to see which ones he might get accepted into. Jou and Ryou were still dating, as far as they were concerned, but there was still something that haunted Jou's mind every day - Christmas Day at the Kaiba mansion, and what had happened that night. He saw Kaiba's initials on all sorts of products around the city, including giant billboards to advertise his new technology, and couldn't help thinking about what he had experienced with him.

Jou was driving home from work later that evening, lost in his thoughts. He didn't even notice the steady rain that was starting to come down. Kaiba was driving him crazy - but not in the same way as usual. He had had sex with him, hadn't he? He couldn't just dismiss that factor. Sex wasn't something that you just… left alone. I've got to talk to Kaiba, Jou mused, I need to know where we stand, and how he feels about what happened. My relationship with Ryou and Bakura could be at stake here…

Jou came to his apartment door and took out his key, unlocked the door and stepped inside, peeling off his winter layers. The apartment was warm, but it didn't seem that anyone was home. The television was off and the lights were all off, so Jou flicked on a couple of lamps in the corners of the room. On the coffee table between the couch and the TV was a note. It was written in Ryou's handwriting.

Jou read the note aloud to himself. “We're out of food. Be back around nine. I love you. Ry, kiss, hug, kiss, hug.”

Jou put down the note and looked at the clock on the wall. It was just after eight; they must have just left. That will give me time to give Kaiba a call… Jou thought uneasily. Wait, what the hell am I thinking?! I need to see him, not call him. Then again, I can't exactly just turn up uninvited… maybe I should just call him anyway. Jou picked up the phone and found the number for KaibaCorp in the phone book. It was night time, so there was a 99% chance he probably wasn't there, anyway. Then again, this was Kaiba, the workaholic who was shuffling papers, in conference meetings and on the phone twenty-three hours a day. Jou dialed the number.

[Welcome to Kaiba Corporation. Press “1” to leave a message for Mr. Kaiba or Mr. Kaiba's secretary, “2” for…]

Great, he's not here. Jou thought, but pressed “1” on his phone anyway. The phone started to ring through. Jou was hardly expecting an answer, and was startled so when a voice answered that sounded deeply deprived of sleep. [Kaiba speaking.]

Jou's heart suddenly began to throb in his throat. “Kaiba…?”

[Who is this?]

“It's me… Jounouchi,”

There were a few moments of silence before Kaiba registered. Then an irritated sigh sounded. [Can I help you?]

“Uh… I need to talk to you about something. Are you busy?” Jou sputtered out.

[Is it important?]

Jou could tell he was wasting Kaiba's time. “It is to me.”

[I'm very busy, but if you must, then come up to my office. I'll be here for another hour, or so.]

Jou expelled a breath he didn't know he was holding. “Okay… I'll be there soon, then.”

The phone abruptly hung up, and a dull dial tone sounded. Jou gritted his teeth, put the phone back on the charger and grabbed his coat, heading for the door. He switched out the lights, locked the door and headed down fifteen floors to the parking lot, and the long, cold drive into the city that awaited him.

Jou parked on the street outside the immense skyscraper towering eighty-eight stories into the sky. Kaiba Corporation was still the tallest building in the city, surrounded by beautiful gardens, fountains, billboards and structures advertising his new technology. The building was made almost entirely of glass - a giant sheet of glass separated by steel frames and floors. It reminded Jou of the hard coolness in Kaiba's blue depths that could put an arctic wind to shame. He shivered and started toward the entrance of the colossal building.

“Where the hell am I supposed to start here? What story would Kaiba's office be on? The top, probably.” Jou mused out loud, and pushed number eighty-eight and stepped into the elevator. A few minutes later, he arrived at the top.

He searched the lobby with his keen brown eyes as soon as he stepped out of the elevator. There were automatic glass doors all around him, and the floor was of dark grey granite. Everything looked rather expensive, just like inside Kaiba's mansion. Lights dimly lit the hall veering to the right, and Jou noticed that there was light seeping from underneath the twin doors at the end of the hallway. That's gotta be his office… Jou thought.

With a quaking fist, Jou knocked on the wooden door and waited a few moments. Instead of opening out in front of him like he expected, the slid apart into compartments like electronic glass doors. He quirked an eyebrow and looked at Kaiba in perplexity, sitting behind his desk. He lifted his index finger off of a small button that was hardly noticeable, at the side of his desk, and smirked at Jou. He brought his elbows up, entwined his fingers and leant his chin on them.

“Good evening, Jounouchi.”

Jou felt his blood run cold. There was something about Kaiba's sinister voice that set him on edge every time. “Ohayou, Kaiba…”

“Sit.” Kaiba resisted the urge to smirk.

Jou frowned and sat down opposite Kaiba's desk. Kaiba's antics still hadn't subsided since the tournament, obviously. “I want to talk to you about…about what happened between us,”

Kaiba's cerulean eyes narrowed. “What's there to talk about? Honestly?” Kaiba asked as he got up from his chair. He walked across the room and looked out over the city through a large pane of glass. “Jou… we had sex. What more is there to add to that?”

Jou swallowed a risen lump in his throat. His palms were becoming sweaty. “So that's it? You don't care about what we did? At all?”

Kaiba continued to look through the glass, but not seeing anything. “I don't feel that it's my place to get involved, Jounouchi. You're not for me to take; you're with Ryou and Bakura.”

“Kaiba, listen,” Jou said, and got up from his chair and walked to the window. “You and I wouldn't have made love that night if it weren't for feeling something between us.”

Kaiba turned and looked down at Jou. “Physical attraction, perhaps.” He replied. “I can't say we `made love' exactly, since we're not in love.”

“So that's where we stand? Like nothing happened?” Jou asked, almost feeling a welling up of tears inside him. He hated to admit that he felt used.

“I guess so.” Kaiba replied. “But tell me, Jounouchi, what else can we do? I'm attracted to you - that's obvious - but you're with Ryou. I don't want your relationship to turn into a love triangle… square, rather.”

Jou swallowed the heavy lump in his throat and followed Kaiba's gaze out across the city. “I guess you've got a point… I'll go, now.”

“Jounouchi,” Kaiba said sternly, putting a hand on his shoulder to halt him. “You know the way I feel for you isn't going to go away easily.” He said, slipping his hands down Jou's sides under his arms. “Please… at least keep in touch with me. I mean it.”

Jou, leaning lightly against the CEO's shoulder, frowned a little. “I'd love to keep in touch with you…” he murmured, winding his arms around the taller man's body.

Kaiba closed his eyes and indulged in Jou's sweet softness and warmth, trying to make the moment last forever. He knew he probably wouldn't get this close to the boy with the flaxen mane for quite a while - if ever again. He pulled back and looked into the almost-ebony depths that were near his eye level. Jou's eyes looked almost black in the little light that filled the room. He remembered the first time he had looked into Jou's eyes before they had kissed, and the feeling that raced through his veins before throwing caution to the wind…

Kaiba stared at Jou with some sort of expression that was hard for Jou to depict. His emotions had always been hard to pick up. They continued to stare at each other a while longer, Jou's hands still on the muscular arms of the youngest billionaire known. Jou almost felt a tingling sensation erupting inside of him as he lowered his hands from Kaiba's shoulders, and nearly had a heart attack when Kaiba grabbed one of his wrists and plunged his mouth onto his…”*

“I wish we could have that night, all over again.” Kaiba whispered into the honey strands resting against him.

“So do I…” Jou said, clenching his eyes shut, not allowing tears to break forth.

Kaiba pulled back, and noticed that Jou's eyes were becoming wet. “Do me one last favour, before you go.”

Jou blinked back the unpitying tears and, in a croaky voice, replied. “What?”

Kaiba needn't say another word. He leant down a couple of inches and kissed Jou with utmost tenderness and fragility. The two male youths kissed with unbridled passion, Jou feeling weak against Kaiba's reign. His senses were drowned in lust, a lust like he had never felt before. Feeling dominated by Kaiba was different to Ryou; he was stronger and more forceful, but it was just as much of a turn on. Jou knew if he didn't leave Kaiba alone - or vice-versa - he was bound to get attached, like he did with Ryou. It would only complicate things.

Jou pulled away, in need for air, but knowing he had to go at some point. “I have to go,” He said. “This is going to get out of hand, otherwise.”

Kaiba nodded, and exhaled silently. “See you.”

Jounouchi's bottom lip wobbled with emotion, more tears spilling out of his eyes, but he knew he had to go. He had to get away from this forbidden love. “Goodbye, Kaiba.”

Jou left without turning back. It hurt… it hurt like a thousand daggers hitting him at once. He wouldn't be unfaithful to Ryou or Bakura. He didn't want to turn out like his bastard father, even if he was bisexual. He was sure Kaiba cared for him more than he let on, but he couldn't let that get in the way of what he and Ryou had together. What he had was good - he had a roof over his head, clothes on his back, food in his stomach, and a boy who loved him. That was all that mattered to make him happy, as far as he was concerned. As painful as it was to try and forget about Kaiba, he couldn't ruin what he had, or he knew he would end up second best. And that sure as hell wasn't going to happen.

Jou walked outside and let the rain wash away his sorrow, letting the icy cool air refresh him and clear his head. He realized how hot and muggy it had been inside Kaiba's office, which only added to the intensity of the kiss, and the fact that his testosterone had given him a little present that needed to be dealt to. He groaned, frustrated, and got into his car, started it, and started on his way home.
