"So what do we do now?" Seto inquired softly. Time to change the subject before they started going at each other again.
Jounouchi raised an eyebrow. "What'cha mean 'what do we do now'? We have ta' go back ta' da' scene o' da'… catastrophe and find out what's happened."
"We?"
The blonde nodded, getting off Kaiba's bed and walking around the room, he wobbled a bit, as if he was faint, but Seto watched as the puppy determinedly pushed on. There was something about Jounouchi's wonky walk that just got Kaiba hot under the collar. It was probably the fact that if Jounouchi did fall, Seto knew he would catch him, bend him back and… the vampire shook his head, no, that wasn't very proper, and besides, Jounouchi was… um… weak, yes, weak with blood loss! It would be taking advantage of that hot body, and those smooth thighs, if only the blonde were wearing those short pants he used to wear in gym class.
So yes, if Jounouchi fell Seto would just laugh.
"Yes 'we'. You fucked 'dis up, you're gonna' help me fix it."
Seto narrowed his eyes. "And if I say you're not leaving this room until I say so?"
Jounouchi held up a hand and muttered something in a language that sounded wispy and floaty, as if the words themselves would blow away if he said them too loudly. A globe of fire appeared in Jounouchi's hand. "First off, dickhead, I don't care what you say. Secondly, since yer' a fuckin' retard with magic, how are ya' gonna stop me? And thirdly, because if you don't let me leave 'dis room the Court will come for me and *no one* wants that."
The brunette stood as if pulled by strings and walked toward the blonde. "Watch your mouth, mongrel, you're lucky to be alive."
Jounouchi stepped closer to Seto, bringing the line of their bodies almost into contact while maintaining eye contact. "Where's my walkie talkie?"
Seto pointed to the door. "It's in my lab."
"Take me there."
"Ask nicely."
They growled at each other, eyes heated at the underlining danger spoke volumes. If something didn't give soon, they were going to tear each other to shreds. Violence radiated around the pair and their history of bickering didn't help.
"Please." Jounouchi ground out.
Seto smirked and stepped back, roughly patting the blonde's head. "There, was that so hard, puppy?"
Jounouchi swatted the vampire's hand and extinguished the flame in his hand. "You're such a bastard Kaiba. You'd think you'd of grown up a little in the past 20 years."
The overwhelming need to close the distance again, grab Jounouchi and molest him with a simple 'you'd be surprised just how much I have grown up' consumed Kaiba, but he was used to this aching for the blonde, he'd put up with it all through their school lives. He contained himself with an effort.
"Well, are ya' gonna' show me where your lab is?" Jounouchi asked incredulously.
"This way." Seto turned and retreated through the bedroom door, he didn't check to see if Jounouchi was following, the blonde would be; and after all it seemed Jounouchi needed his help. Okay, so Jounouchi probably was still light-headed from the blood Seto had taken, which meant that Seto had sort of crippled the Fairy, but still. Seto felt a little laugh welling up in his throat that curved his lips ever-so-slightly. Even after so many years he was still screwing up his puppy's life.
"It'd serve ya' right if one day ya' wake up alone without any family because ya' drove them all away. I'm surprised ya' let your brother take over the company. Does he have a life yet? Or is he still your slave?"
Seto frowned. "Shut up, mongrel."
They turned a corner and Seto pressed his hand into a piece of the wall. The metal slid noiselessly away to reveal a fingerprint scanner. The vampire placed his gloved hand palm down and looked at Jounouchi. The blonde Fairy was leaning against the wall, eyes slightly defocused. With a mild amount of concentration Seto picked up the Fairy's heartbeat, it was erratic and Jounouchi's pulse was hammering in his throat.
"What'cha staring at?" Jounouchi asked, his voice was a little breathy, but not as much as it deserved to be; he was hiding the symptoms of blood loss pretty well.
"How badly is the world swimming, Jounouchi?"
"Badly enough." The answer came without thought before Jounouchi sighed. "You can tell from my voice, can you?"
"No, your pulse and heartbeat is a better indicator."
"Shit. That's good hearing."
"And eyesight."
They stood there for a few seconds before the Fairy pushed off the wall, feet spreading to take his weight. "Look, don't act as if ya' give a damn, Kaiba, 'cause I know ya' don't. I'm fine."
"You don't have a clue what I think, puppy." Seto motioned to the door that had appeared from the confirmation of the fingerprint scan. "In here."
They walked into the room and Jounouchi glanced around briefly at the large computer bank, the screens displaying various parts of the compound, the lab benches and several dissected machines on some of the benches. The russet eyed immortal located the workbench with his equipment and went to it. He began by putting the utility belt back on and then filling it's pockets with the various gear that had been needed to complete their mission; a few clips of ammo for a shotgun, a roll of duct-tape, a pair of wire cutters, a meter of three different kinds of electrical wire, pins, two grenades (there were three empty places along the belt where the grenades fit, which was enough of a clue to Seto as to where their brothers were,), a stick of C4, a low grade explosive, a little computerish thing that just had a bunch of numbers displayed and a half-opened packet of chewing gum. The vampire watched as Jounouchi put all this in various pockets of the belt and on his person, most of the pockets were Velcro, but there were a few buttons and zippers.
Why the chewing gum had been used was a mystery Seto Kaiba figured he didn't want to answer. The last thing that the blonde picked up was the walkie talkie which he held in his hand as he spoke. "How long was I unconscious, Kaiba?"
Seto shrugged. "About four hours, give or take."
"Good. That means they still should be in the area." He flicked the on button and spoke into the machine. "White Sparrow to Silver Feathers, come in?"
There was only static.
Seto frowned. "Shouldn't they be replying?"
Jounouchi nodded and leaned his pert ass against the workbench. "Silver Feathers, come in."
The static resumed.
"Guys, this isn't funny, it's Katsuya here…pick up!" He turned to Kaiba. "Are we underground? I might need to be out in the open for it to work."
Seto nodded. "I'll take you back to the area and we can try from there."
Seto lead the way from the room and down the hallways to the lift, he waited until the puppy was in the lift before activating the fingerprint scanner.
"Is this whole place on fingerprint scanner? What are you guys so afraid of being found out?"
"It is, and it's mainly for my own safety." The brunette replied.
They came up on the ground floor and the vampire glanced at the night-shift guard. "Do you know any concealment spells or whatever? I can make him not notice me, but I don't think it works on other people… or at least I've never tried it." Seto whispered softly, mindful that talking might arouse the guard.
"How did you get me down there in the first place?" Jounouchi whispered back, hands already in odd motions.
"I went through when he was on break." Well, not really, Seto had walked across the ceiling, but Jounouchi didn't need to know that.
The blonde whispered a few words in that whispy language and motioned. "Let's go."
They walked across the foyer quietly, Seto was quiet because he didn't want to alarm Jounouchi, and the Fairy probably because the spell needed silence to work effectively. They made it to the revolving doors and Seto took the lead, spilling them both into the night.
"Shit it's colder out here than I remember."
"That would be the blood loss, puppy."
"Oh."
"Try your walkie talkie again."
"I am. Shut up so I can." The Fairy gave the other immortal a glare as he raised the black box. "White Sparrow to Silver Feathers, come in?"
There was still only static.
"What kind of backup plan did you guys have?"
"We didn't. We weren't counting on this kind of thing going wrong. We thought we only had to deal with humans and a possible Elf." Jounouchi flicked the channels through before arriving back at the right one. "White Sparrow to Silver Feathers, come in."
"That's a bit slack, Jounouchi. Not even I make mistakes like that." The cold words were only just out his mouth before the Fairy spun on him.
The blonde grabbed a fistful of Seto's shirt and pulled himself closer. "I think I speak for everyone when I say that ya' have no fuckin' idea what it cost us to go back inta' this kind of lifestyle. I fought in the Fae Wars for a very long time and I'm not inclined ta' try it again. I've been after 'dis thing for almost 100 years, and as far as I know, you're only half that in age. I'm old enough to be your great grandfather 30 times over, so shut 'da fuck up! ya' don't even comprehend da' situation."
Seto pushed the Fairy back down. "I don't care how old you are Jounouchi, not even I would make such a sloppy mistake."
"Oh yeah? Ya' don't seem ta' be right on da' top o' da' scale from where me and my stolen blood are standin'."
The vampire hissed, showing his fangs. "You'd do well to remember that if I hadn't of realized who you were I wouldn't have stopped."
That put them in silence for a moment as Jounouchi's eyes widened; Seto mentally hit himself on the head. Oh yeah, real smart. They were staring at each other from so close and the desire that welled in Kaiba's heart was almost unbearable. What would Jounouchi say if the vampire threw him into a wall and kissed him, what would the puppy do if his master started molesting him.
Jounouchi snapped first, he turned and continued walking. "White Sparrow to Silver Feathers, pick up."
The radio made some more static.
Seto shook his head and followed the Fairy. Close encounter. He watched the back of Jounouchi's head, the Fairy was sweating, all the physical indications said he should have collapsed about five minutes ago, but it seemed sheer force of will alone was driving him onward. The brunette had always liked that about the blonde, how he could overcome the odds and keep going, it reminded him of that Duel over 20 years ago aboard the floating airship, Jounouchi had won simply because he stood back up first, but you could easily see how much it had costed the blonde.
"White Sparrow to Silver Feathers… please come in."
They rounded a corner and Seto heard the walkie talkie hit the ground before he actually came around.
The sight that greeted them was a bit like a jigsaw puzzle. Someone had taken perfectly good people and mutilated them almost beyond recognition. But it was worse. The bodies, or bits of bodies, had been hacked and pulled and sliced, and then strung up on a line of wire that went from the building to the nearby lamppost. Blood and thicker, yellow and blue bits of unidentifiable gobs dripped on the pavement, a scrap of black cloth floated in the thicker area. The blood pooled around the bodies and trailed down to the gutters. Sightless eyes stared at the two immortals, horror locked in the last moments of life. The lower half of someone's jaw was slowly swinging back a forth in the breeze, teeth bloodied and red, one half of the jaw at an angle that said it had been wrenched out and twisted. They had been people, walking, talking breathing people that had been reduced to something you found in the back of a butcher's shop.
Kaiba swore he heard Jounouchi's heart stop beating for a precious moment before the organ made a thud and quick few re-assertive pumps.
Blood rose in the back of Seto's throat and he fought to keep it down. "Sweet Jesus." The vampire had to avert his gaze. "What did this? What does it mean?"
Jounouchi's voice came out faintly, like the blonde was underwater or choking on the words. "Dear Queen… it means war."
And then Jounouchi passed very thoroughly out.

Sweets: probably not. Don't worry Seto; I'm sure it'll get worse.
Seto: That's not comforting!!!
Jou: Yeah! And what's with me and fainting?
