Tea giggled softly from where she sat across the table from Yugi. “You really need to get yourself a girlfriend, Yugi.”
Yugi blinked, looking up from his bowl of ramen, a baffled expression on his face. “What makes you say that?”
“Well…” She blushed faintly and looked up at the ceiling. “I just mean, you've never had one… isn't it about time you got one?”
Yugi set down the bowl and looked at the tabletop, his own cheeks turning a soft pink. “I suppose I never thought about it.” A small moment of awkward silence fell on them before he tilted his head up slightly to look at her, the soft pink turning into a shade of red. “You know, you've never had a boyfriend… don't you need one, too?”
Tea avoided his gaze as soon as hers met his. “W-well, I suppose…”
“Then,” he choked some before asking in a small, shy voice, “well, would you be my girlfriend… since I need one and you need a boyfriend?”
A soft, gentle laughter bubbled past Tea's lips as she leaned over the table and gave him a small peck on the cheek. “Of course!”

At least, that's how it was supposed to go.

“You know, you've never had a boyfriend… don't you need one, too?”
Tea's expression brightened. “Oh, didn't I tell you?”
Yugi paused as the blush instantly faded. Something about the way she said that made him think what she wanted to say was, 'I was hoping you'd ask, I've been dying to tell you something you really don't want to hear.' He put on his best smile and tilted his head to the side in a curious manner. “Tell me what?”
“Joey and I are going out… I thought you knew.”
In other words, 'I'm dating your best friend, just thought I'd rub it in your face after pointing out you're single.' Wonderful.

Yugi sighed, his hands in his pockets as he walked down a sidewalk away from Tea's house. He had always had a crush on Tea… but Joey was always looking at her in that longing sort of way that he never acted on that crush. And finally he got the courage to let her know how he felt, only to discover Joey beat him to it. Second place meant nothing on the dating scene. Why hadn't Joey said anything about it, though?
“Hey! Yugi!”
Speak of the devil himself.
Yugi blinked as he turned to look at Joey, who was running down the sidewalk to catch up with him, a big, goofy grin on his face.
“I saw ya leavin' Tea's house,” he said, panting some once he finally stopped running a few feet away from Yugi to catch his breath. “What were ya doing in there?” He looked up at Yugi, his goofy grin now a boyish, suggestive one.
Yugi's face became a serious one. How could Joey act like that about his own girlfriend? It was almost sickening. “You shouldn't talk about your girlfriend that way.”
Joey's eyes widened some and he straightened up, grabbing Yugi by the upper arms. “Who told you that?!”
Was he honestly going to keep it a secret from him? A battle raged within Yugi. He couldn't be mad at his best friend. After all, it was just a girl. Nothing to ruin a friendship over. But then again… Yugi put on a small, evil little smirk that ended up looking more cute than evil. “You did.”
Joey let out a small sigh of relief, a bit of laughter interlaced within the sigh. “Oh… damn, I thought someone was startin' another rumor.”
Yugi's smirk faded, and after a bit of thought, he said softly, “Someone is starting a rumor, Joey.”
“Who was it?” Joey grinned. “I'll go rough `em up for starting such a stupid rumor.”
Yugi shrugged Joey off, slipping out of reach and turning, his back facing him. “… Tea `started the rumor'.” His head bowed as he closed his eyes halfway. “You don't have to pretend anymore. Tea told me all about it. I'm not hurt that you're dating her.” He started to walk away, saying in a soft, fragile voice, “I'm hurt that you'd keep something like that from me.”
Joey clenched his jaw shut. “Yugi! Damnit, wait up, let's talk about this!”
Yugi said nothing and continued walking despite Joey's shouting. What was there to talk about? Joey got the girl. He didn't feel like talking to Joey about anything right then, anyway.

Yami Yugi sat in his soul room, his head tilted to the side. Poor Yugi! He frowned. Yugi's sadness was affecting him, too, however.
“He wasn't doing it to be harmful, you know.”
“Friends shouldn't keep these kinds of secrets.” retorted Yugi a bit bitterly.
Yami sighed. “Joey wouldn't hurt you intentionally. You know that. I'm sure there's a perfectly good explanation from it.” He waited a few moments, frowning when he got no response. “Are you ignoring me?” He sighed when more silence followed and stood, stretching some of his sore muscles.
Yugi wasn't going to take care of this bitter sadness, was he? No… Yami could already tell that. A wry smile played with Yami's lips as he closed his eyes, taking control over Yugi's body. He couldn't stand it when Yugi was hurting. It only made sense to do for him what he wouldn't do for himself.

Yugi blinked as he looked around. “Yami! Give me my body back!” His eyebrows arched inwardly, furrowing with confusion, as he got no response. “All right, I'm sorry for ignoring you. You win.”
Yami chuckled. “I'm not being petty and ignoring you as you ignoring me, Yugi. I'm trying to help you.”
Yugi lifted his gaze to see what Yami saw when Yami commented that he was `there', wherever there was. His eyes widened slightly. “How do you plan to help me… by taking my body to a strip club?”
