In the Eyes of the Beholder

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* ~

Ryou felt like the world slipped off his shoulders almost, when he walked out of his 9th period classroom. He thought he was home free. But home was the second to the last place he would want to be.[1] Bakura was there, and whenever Bakura and he were alone; there would always be a lesson involved.

Bakura acted as sweet and kind to Ryou as he could when his friends were around, and the nicer he was, the more painful the lesson would be when he got home. That's why Ryou never liked going out in public with his Yami.

Ryou was approaching the bus stop when a little blond boy, Yugi, came up to him, wearing his usual smile.

"Hi Ryou!"

"Hey Yugi…" Ryou wasn't in the mood.

"So do you wanna come over to the Game Shop?" He didn't want Ryou to refuse, so he tried the infamous puppy-eyes.[2]

This Ryou had to think about. He had refused exactly 12 invites from Yugi, and his friends might get suspicious. He didn't want his friends to think he was a slave in his own household, at Bakura's every beck-and-call. He knew if his friends suspected anything, they might tell the Spirit of the Sunnen Puzzle.

They meant well, they cared for Ryou, but he didn't want them having anything to do with him and his Yami.

"Sure. I'd love to!" Ryou tried putting his happy face on.

"Yay! That's great!"

And that left Ryou and Yugi to wait for Jyounichi, Honda, Anzu, and Kaiba.[3]

When the group arrived, they walked to the Mouto resident.

It was 6 o'clock when Ryou decided to head home.

"It was nice of you to come over, Ryou!" Yugi had told him before showing him the door.

"Thank you for having me, Yugi. Tell the others I said 'bye" Ryou bowed and left the house, closing the door gently behind him.

The spirit of the Puzzle materialized.

"Is he gone?"

"Yep!" Yugi nodded happily, scampering upstairs.

Yami grinned and followed.[4]

Ryou ran home.

He couldn't risk his Yami literally beating him to a bloody pulp.

He reached his front door, panting heavily.

He checked his digital watch, which he kept in his school case.[5]

"Oh, Kame-Sama……" He was to frightened to speak aloud, so he whispered.

It was '7: 23'.

Bakura was home, no doubt, he was pissed off, no doubt, and, Ryou just left himself for dead, no doubt.

Ryou was to afraid to open the door. He knew once he went inside, he would have to endure one of the most painful lessons of his life. What scared him the most was him knowing his Yami was just waiting in the dark hallway, knowing his 'Aibou' would walk into his trap.

This was like a complicated game of Duel Monsters. Ryou had no choice but to play into Bakura's Trap Card.

Ryou took in a deep breath and let it out, before making the last steps into the house.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* ~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Ryou had managed to put his book bag, and shoes away without any problems.

Maybe it would be different this time. Maybe he would walk away without any cuts or bruises. Maybe. Just maybe.

He was walking into the hallway to retreat to his room. That's when he felt a strange aura around him. It was the familiar energy of his master- his Yami.

"And where the hell have you been all day?" He sounded like he wouldn't do anything. That's how he got Ryou's hopes up in the past.

"I…I was just at-" Ryou was cut off.

As Bakura moved closer to Ryou, he had a smile on his face. The same smile that meant the demise of many men. The same smile that meant innocent people would get hurt. The same smile he saved for Ryou and no one else.

"You were at Yugi's house, hm?" He lifted the lighter half by the shirt collar and stared into his chocolate brown eyes.

"Y….yes….yes I was, Bakura-Sama…." Ryou kept his eyes downcast.

Ryou tensed up to absorb another familiar stinging tingling sensation that was a slap, but he wasn't ready for a punch in the stomach.

Ryou was suspended in air, so he couldn't curl up to ease the pain.

Another punch and Bakura's knee followed. The knee was so forceful it sent Ryou to the wall.

The hallway wasn't to far apart so his back hurt as well.

"Did you think wouldn't notice? Do you actually think Im that dumb?!" Each time Bakura ended a sentence, he fiercely kicked Ryou in the gut.

Breathing heavily, Ryou kept his eyes closed shut tight. He couldn't imagine going through that again.

When he found him crying….

The dark spirit growled, grabbed one of Ryou's snowy white locks, and lifted him to eye level.

"Well?!" Bakura growled some more.

Ryou responded with a whimper.

Bakura snarled and slapped him hard.

"LOOK AT ME WHEN IM TALKING TO YOU!!!" Bakura was having fun torturing his 'Aibou'.

Ryou reluctantly, opened his eyes. Bakura was expecting to see that familiar emotion of fear and utmost respect for the torturer. But that was far from what he had seen in his Hikari's eyes.

Then the emotion the eyes held. They were like…crystal balls holding all of Ryou's feelings. Bakura wanted to take a look into Ryou's mind. To mock and toy with his emotions so he could give Ryou a lesson about them later.

He couldn't hold them in anymore. The tears in Ryou's eyes suddenly spilled out. Feeling the heat of the tears on his cheek, Ryou soon began to fear for his life.

No sudden movements, no sounds, nothing. Neither of the beings moved. Both were lost in their thoughts of confusion.

'Why isnt he hitting me? Why is isnt he going to kill me yet?' Ryou was scared out of his mind.

For all he knew, his Yami was thinking of a plan to torture him to a slow death. But, maybe he'll let him go.

'Why….why is there pleasure in his eyes?'

Ryou's eyes concealed the emotions of sadness, but at the same time, pleasure.

You cant be sad and pleasured at the same time. Why…..was he happy to be beaten like this?

Did he enjoy being hurt?

'M…maybe he's become a masochist…yes…h…he's a masochist….'

Bakura tried to fool himself. He couldn't even convince himself Ryou was masochistic.

He brought his attention back to his victim.

He was in to much of a predicament to hurt him further for crying.

'No matter. He'll just pay for it later….'

The Dark Spirit tossed the boy briskly and trudged up the stairs to his room.

He would have opened the door, but someone caught his attention.

"AAH!" He heard Ryou scream for some reason.

Bakura grumbled and quickly padded down the stairs to see what his problem was.

"What the hell cra-" Bakura cut himself off.

His Hikari's hand was….limp….
