~I Wonder If He Likes Stars~

"Prince Yami. Prince Yami! Your Majesty pay attention!" Yami was roused from his thoughts by the yelling of his teacher.

"Huh? W-what is it?"

"If you had been paying attention you would know. Do you wish for me to tell your father, Pharaoh?" Yami gulped at the mention of his father.

"Oh, uh, there's no need to involve father! I-I'll pay attention, honest I will." Yami said hurriedly.

"I don't know my young lord; you've been acting like this during my lessons, for many moons now. Do they bore you?"

"What bores me?"

"My lessons!"

"Oh, no! Your lessons aren't boring! Of course not! They really interest me."

"But there's something else that interests you more?"

"I believe you are right my Priest." The Pharaoh said

"O-Oh your Lordship, Lord Pharaoh, I didn't hear you approach." The priest bowed, Pharaoh gestured him to rise.

"F-Father, h-how are you today?"

"Old my son, old and tired."

"Father you should sit down."

"Look at you my boy, you haven't yet seen the change of eight years, yet you feel great responsibility." The Pharaoh smiled with pride for his son. Priest Simon interjected

"But one may wonder with what."

"I believe I can enlighten you. In my old age I had realized that if something weren't done Lower and Upper Egypt would never be united. So, before my darling boy was born I and the Pharaoh of the Lower lands made a deal. We would have our first born offspring wed, to unite the lands. And the gods granted the Pharaoh of the Lower lands a son, but the gods also gave me a son. Nonetheless, they are still to wed. You see my point is, I've told Yami this a few moons ago. He must be distracted by his upcoming wedding. And, he has yet to meet the prince of Lower Egypt. Is that it my child?" Yami nodded.

"Father?"

"Yes, my son?"

"Must I marry him? I'm so young, and I've never even met him, what if I don't love him?"

"You must my son, and you shall love him."

"But what if *I* don't?"

"Well, would it put your mind at ease if we were to meet your betrothed?"

"Oh yes Father! Greatly!" Yami's head bobbed up at down.

"Very well my son, we'll set it up. Simon."

"Lord?"

"Tell the scribes to get a letter made and have our fastest messenger send it strait away. Understood?"

"Understood my Lord." Simon ran off as fast as his old bones could go. Pharaoh departed as well, leaving Yami alone in the chamber. The Prince of Upper Egypt sighed.

"I wonder what he's like." He said aloud to himself. Then a horrible thought struck him "W-what if I do love him, but he doesn't love me, or he is cruel? What if he'll hurt me? N-No, I'm sure the Prince of Lower Egypt is nice. But. . ." questions littered Yami's young mind as he walked to his bedchamber. He closed the gilded doors behind him and crawled into his bed. Yami's crimson eyes gazed out at the stars outside his window. Their twinkling made him at ease, the last question in his mind before he fell victim to slumber was an innocent and shy one, one that only a young boy like him would worry about "Can he see the stars too?" the prince gently sighed as he curled up and his eyelids fell closed, then he said in the one breath before sleep "I wonder if he likes stars. . ."
