~The Next Day: After the Duel~
"Well then, we shall meet again in six years I take it?" The Pharaoh of Upper Egypt asked
"Six!? B-but, our sons are getting along so very well, even after losing at that Shadow Game" The lower Pharaoh cried, then added under his breath "save for it was just a huge fluke." Choosing to ignore the snide remark Yami's Father said
"I figured we should wait till our boys come of age, we both still have life in us do we not!? We won't be seeing Osiris soon then will we?"
"I suppose so, but. . ." The father of Seth thought a moment, and then an evil and ingenious idea came to him. "What if one of us was to meet an untimely end? Ra forbid."
"Well, then we'll just have to see the circumstance won't we? It is my greatest wish to unite our two lands my friend. I shall see you in 6 years." The Pharaoh turned to his chariot. "Captain Ishtar!"
"Sir?" The blond Egyptian asked
"It's time to return home. Lead on then."
"Yes my liege." Malik turned to his small troop "Okay men, lets go!" They rode on for a few hours without anything too eventful. But then from nowhere an arrow appeared, it's tip darted through the unresisting air and strait into it's target, the Pharaoh's back, between the shoulder blades, right in the heart! "Your Highness!" Malik stopped the chariots
"Father!" Yami shouted
"Pharaoh!" Yelled the three other guards. The king graciously fell to the ground, flat on his stomach.
"Father!" Yami yelled again, rushing to his fallen parent. Yami shook his father's shoulders "Please wake up father!"
"Yami, my boy." Pharaoh whispered. Yami's cheeks were streaked with tears
"Father do not move, we'll get the arrow out ok." Yami tugged at the arrow only to have the shaft break off. "Damn it!"
"Yami, my son, watch your language." The Pharaoh gasped out, laughing slightly.
"We have to get him to a healer!" Yami yelled at the guards.
"No my son, the arrow's tip have driven further towards my heart, it's been poison tipped as well, do not waste time." He did his best to sit up, Pharaoh held his son in a tight, final embrace. "C-captain Ishtar."
"Sir!"
"Take Yami ba-back t-t-t-o Lower Eg-g-ypt. Unite the lands my son. Go, leave me here."
"Your highness, I cannot leave you in the middle of nowhere."
"Ishtar, the assassins may strike again, p-p-protect Yami from harm. Protect my son." The Pharaoh's eyes rolled back into his head.
"Pharaoh is dead." Malik said quietly. Another arrow hit the ground next to Malik. A warning blow, it was a miss on purpose. "Men! Formation Gamma! Yami," he looked at the prince who was weeping on the ground next to his Father "You'll ride with me." He scooped Yami up and set him in his own chariot. "Hold this prince." He handed Yami an overly large shield. "Where I can't protect you this shield will. Men, back to Lower Egypt!" They went off at full speed. Two men in the back, one in the front and Yami and Malik in the middle. An occasional arrow fell but no one else got killed nor injured. They rode past the city gates and head strait to the palace. They found the Pharaoh "excuse me your grand highness of Lower Egypt."
"Yes?" The pudgy man asked in a drawling voice "Why are you here, has it already been 6 years?" he laughed "And what of my friend, Pharaoh Sekhmet? Were is the old jackal?" Malik lowered his head.
"Sir, my Pharaoh has been killed."
"What!?" The other shrieked
"Yes, as his dying wish he wanted Egypt united, he wants the marriage as soon as possible." Malik said, clutching the small prince in his arms. The other Pharaoh pretended to think about the situation
"Yes of course, well have the marriage in two days." He clapped his fat hands, jewelry jingling "Hoptep! Hote! Show our future ruler and his men to their chambers."
"Right away sir." The two guards escorted them away. After they were out the ear shot the short Pharaoh laughed
"Heh, now that that old jackal is dead just like I had planed, soon my son will marry that little brat. Then it will only be a matter of killing both boys off. Then I shall rule over all!" he smirked "Amun!" A gangly guard appeared "Fetch me my son." In a few moments the guard returned
"What is it, sir?" Seth spat.
"In two days you shall marry Prince Yami."
"What! Why?"
"Because Yami's father wished it so. Now you listen to me you little monster, you'll get Yami's guard down after you marry him, then I'll send in some one to kill him." >and you< thought the psychotic man.
"Really father, Yami and I are young, we aren't interested in that sorta thing! And besides, why would you kill my Ya- I mean prince Yami?"
"I want you to have full control over the lands my boy; besides, you don't love that brat do you?" The Pharaoh asked after his little lie. Seth looked away
"O-of course not father." But his eyes told the truth.
