"Get in there, slave boy!" The guard growled, tossing the poor boy into the cell. He groaned as he hit the floor, his blue eyes closed, his brown hair dust filled. "Let's see you try and kill the Princess now…" he hissed, closing the door.
The boy curled into a corner, his clothes torn, his eyes filled with anger and sorrow. He looked at the setting moon. The last hours of his life began.

"How many times do I have to tell you! You are FORBIDDEN to leave the palace! The commoners will do anything to hurt you! Do ANYTHING to get your airs from you!" Her father raged on in front of the entire court and royal council. She knelt in front of his throne, her head bowed, eyes blood red, tears flowing from them. "He's nothing but a traitorous slave boy, child!"
"FATHER! I LOVE HIM!" She screamed, standing, her fists clenched. All in the room gasped as they looked at the princess. Her long black hair was tangled, her make up gone from her face, her peasant like clothing disgraceful. "I don't care what you do to me! I beg you, don't have him killed! He wasn't trying to hurt me!"
"He tried to RAPE you, daughter!" Her father screamed at her. He sighed. "You will understand when you're older… Go to your room…"
"But, father…"
"Go!" He demanded. She looked at the guards as he came up behind her, taking her arm to escort her off.
"Yes father…"

He sighed as he continued to look out of the window. He heard the guards preparing the guillotine for him. A tear fell from his face as he saw the picture of the princess he had fallen in love with in his mind. "I'm sorry…" He whispered.
"Sorry for what?" A familiar soft voice said from the other side of his now open cell door. He looked and gasped, seeing his love.
"Princess…" He slowly stood, tired and weak from the wound he was given when the guards first struck him after finding him and the princess together in the stables of the market place.
"Keep watch for us, Tristan…" She told the guard that stood outside the door.
"Yes, Princess…" He bowed as she walked over to him, a small first aide like kit under her arm.
"Easy, Seto…" She whispered, helping him to sit back down. She softly cleaned his wound, wrapping it.
"Don't, love… It's no use…" He whispered, leaning back against the wall, taking her hands in his. "I'll be gone soon, so it won't matter…"
More tears fell from her eyes as she threw her arms around his waist. "I'm so sorry… This is all of my fault… If we would have never met… Oh, this is all of my fault…" She sobbed against his bare chest.
He gasped and lifted her chin in his hands. "No, Jenna… you're wrong…" He wrapped her close in his arms. "If I never knew you, if I never felt this love, I would have no inkling of how precious life can be. And, if I never held you, I would never have a clue how, at last, I'd find in you the missing part of me…" He wiped her eyes softly, kissing her forehead as he looked into her eyes softly. "In this world so full of fear, full of rage and lies. I can see the truth so clear in your eyes; so dry your eyes…" He kissed her lips softly as his own tears fell. "And I'm so grateful to you, I'd have lived my whole life through lost forever… If I never knew you…"
"Princess… It's time…" Tristan warned.
She looked into his eyes. "I don't want to leave you…" She whispered, grasping his face in her hands.
"You never will…" He whispered, kissing her one last time. "I'm always with you, no matter where you roam…"
She then felt Tristan's hands on her shoulders, pulling her from him. She took his hand, holding onto it till the last possible second that she could, her hand still out stretched to his as she was pulled from the small cell. "I love you…" She whispered before the door was closed.
He closed his eyes, a few tears sliding down his cheeks and hitting the stone floor below him. "I will always love you, my princess…" He whispered, waiting dawn.

She sobbed as she ran to her bed as soon as her friend had left her to her room. She gripped the pillows, knowing that once he was gone, she could never be the same again. She looked out her window to the starless sky. "If I never knew you, I'd be safe, but half as real… Never knowing I could feel a love so strong and true… I'm so grateful to you, I'd have lived my whole life through… Lost forever, if I never knew you…" She wiped her eyes, slowly standing as the sun rose in the distance.

"Move it, boy!" The guard hissed, pulling him to his feet a few hours later. Had he fallen asleep? He didn't know. All he could think of was his love.
I thought our love would be so beautiful
Somehow, we'd make the whole world bright
I never knew that fear and hate could be so strong
He grunted as the ushered him outside. "Not so hard… I'm not going to fight you…" he whispered, feeling as if his arm would break under their grip. Lookers on threw things at him as he kept his head bowed, walking slowly towards the platform in the center of the town square.
All they'd leave us were these whispers in the night
And, still, my heart is saying we were right
Oh, oh
The king sat on his throne near the platform. He had been awake all night listening to the prolonged sobs of his beloved daughter that came from her chambers. Maybe the boy wasn't trying to hurt her? He thought, remembering what she had said. She said she loved him.
"I don't care what you do to me! I beg you, don't have him killed! He wasn't trying to hurt me!" Her voice echoed in his mind as he saw the guards bring the young slave boy out from the dungeons. People from the kingdom had already gathered to watch his young life be put down.
Many screamed at the king to stop, knowing that the boy would never harm his daughter, would never take advantage of her. But, others screamed differently. Said that he was a thief, was untrustworthy. The king ignored them.
As the priest whispered a small prey beside him, he watched the guards force the boy to his knees and cover his head. Just before the black cloth had been placed over his eyes, he saw the boy's fearless, yet pleading gaze look at him. It was then, as they placed him down below the blade, he knew he was wrong.

She sobbed as she looked on from her balcony. It was too painful. She turned away. It was her fault, she knew it. She couldn't watch him die knowing she could never feel his honest, true love ever again.
If I never knew you
(There's no moment I regret)
He closed his eyes behind the mask that covered his face, remembering all of the times they had spent together. She had changed his life around, made him a better person. Why couldn't anyone see that?
If I never knew your love
(Since the moment that we met)
She drew a knife out between her mattresses in her room, looking at the cold steel blade. He had made it for her, fashioned it with gorgeous roses and angel feathers. "If you ever need protecting… This blade will fight for me until I come to your rescue…" She remembered the words he said as he gave it to her.
I would have no inkling of
(If our time has gone too fast)
A tear fell down his face. He cried for her, not for hisself, he knew that. He was never worth the tears. But, the thought of her suffering killed him slowly inside.
How precious life can be
(I've lived at last)
The king growled as he stood, calling the guard away from the rope that would let the blade fall down onto the slave's precious neck. "Let him go!" He demanded. Everyone gasped, puzzled. "Take that mask off of him! Untie his hands!" He barked.
The guards did as told.
I thought our love would be so beautiful (so beautiful)
Somehow, we'd make the whole world bright
She sat on her bed, looking at the blade. She heard a cheer from the crowd, not knowing that it was a cheer of joy from the boy's release. "I can't do this!" She sobbed, holding the hilt of the blade to her heart, jabbing it deep within her skin. She gasped, pain racing through her, cold blood running down her chest.
I thought our love would be so beautiful
We'd turn the darkness into light
"Seto…" She gasped, falling weakly to the floor, the knife once more in her hand, covered in her life giving crimson. She lay on her back, looking at the ceiling as her vision began to fade. "Forgive me, father…" She whispered, slowly closing her eyes, a smile on her face.
And, still, my heart is saying we were right
We were right
The king called to him, "Hurry, child! She'll want to see you!" He called to him, smiling as he darted for the palace, not knowing that his happiness was to be short lived.
He ran through the town and to the palace, skidding to a stop as he looked out over the gardens for her. "Jenna! Princess!" He called, running towards her study. "Princess?" He then smiled, running to her room. He knocked on the door. "Jenna, I…" He gasped, clasping his hands over his mouth as he saw her on the floor after opening the door. "JENNA!" He screamed, horror in his face.
Seto ran to her side, picking her up into his lap, cradling her. "Jenna!" He shook her, tears flowing fast from his eyes as the knife in her hand made a small clink. He ignored the servants that called for help, screaming the word of the princess' suicide. He buried his face against her chest. She was gone.
And, if I never knew you (if I never knew you)
I'd have lived my whole life through
He sobbed against her before looking up. He saw the knife. It was the one he had given her. He laid her down a moment, his hands covered with her blood as he picked the blade, looking at it. He shook his head hard. "NO! This is all of my fault!"
Empty as the sky
Never knowing why
He then slit his wrists, screaming in pain and sorrow as the blade plunged into his chest, hitting his heart. He fell beside her. As blood gushed from him, mixing with her own on the floor, he reached over, weakly pulling her to him. "Jenna…" He whispered, looking at her serene face.
Lost forever
If I never knew you
He heard the faint cries of the guards fill the air, the voice of the king as he continued to look at her face. Bringing it to his chest, he laid his head against hers. "At… At least…" He gasped with his last breaths. "We can be…. Together…" He then closed his eyes forever.

He felt warm, comfortable. He groaned, a slight pain hitting him as he tried to open his eyes. "Shh, Seto…" He looked up, smiling at his princess.
"Jenna… my angel…" He whispered, closing his eyes once more, sleeping in her arms forever, never to leave her side again.
