Chapter 20: Pain

You were free…that very moment you were free for a minute-in-a-half seconds to save the one you love. You took this time to stand and run towards Bakura before it was too late. "Stop her." Kaiba barked his last order before he raised the sword stake. He didn't even look behind him while raised the silver killer. He just knew that you were after him. One minute was left….Yami and Joey grabbed you as you were about to pounce Kaiba. Forty-five seconds… You had to do something and fast….Forty seconds…You struggled against the two vampires; your strength was weak against them. Turning mortal wasn't easy. Thirty-one seconds… `Come on think! THINK!' You were screaming bloody murder! Twenty seconds… `THINK!' Twenty-eight… `Come ON!!' It hit…it hit you hard. Joey and Yami weren't even trying anymore. They saw the beads in your eyes; they saw the love and compassion for the man. Twenty seconds… They saw the struggle in your heart; they couldn't take it anymore. Fifteen seconds… They let their grip loosen at the same time. `NOW!' Ten… You slipped from their grip…Nine… You broke into a run as Kaiba was raising the stake higher now, Eight… , and slowly bringing it down to meet its target. Your heart was pounding in your throat…Seven… `One step closer!' Six…Kaiba was bringing the stake down faster…Five…. `Three more steps!' Four… `Two more!' Three… `Please let me make it!' TWO… Kaiba seemed to bring the stake down at all costs….O-N-E!

(this time)

You stepped in front of the stake as it sliced threw your back and tearing up your heart in two. The stake was longer than you intended it to be, for Kaiba had used the sword stake that you saw Yami holding before you came to the graveyard.

Pain exploded. It felt like your heart was getting ripped into pieces while you were sucking in air to breath. You looked at Bakura in front of you as Kaiba was slowly taking the stake out. You noticed that the stake had reached him along with you. But Kaiba had reached his target. Bakura's heart.

You fell to the ground as Kaiba stepped back with the stake in hand. "I don't feel any different." Voices were swarming around your head along with the headache forming in your cranium.

Pain…

You heard voices again, but couldn't tell whose they were. Or who they belonged to. But your guess was as good as all of them: Kaiba, Joey and Yami.

"Either do I…"

"Maybe we should go back to the shack."

"Ya…we might be different in the mornin'."

"Leave the girl…she's going to die anyway." You could hear foot steps walk away from you and Bakura. You were left alone. To die. Abandoned. Forsaken. Isolated. Wait…. Bakura!

Pain…rocketed through your whole body.

Your vision was blurry, but it didn't stop you from getting on your knees to look at Bakura. He was still tied to the stone. His head was lolled over on his right shoulder; it looked like he was almost bowing his head in a friendly manner. Almost greeting the agony soon to be in his heart; blood was dripping from his chest like a sink.

Drip…drip…the repeating sounds echoed in your head.

His face was pale. Tears formed in your eyes, `NO…' you pleaded in your mind before whispering the same words out of your mouth again. "no…no nO No NO NO NOOO!" you screamed bloody murder in the last remark while looking at Bakura's limp form in front of your eyes. You tried to stand, using his body to pull you up. You noticed that a silent tear's trail lay on Bakura's cheek. You licked it away hoping he'd feel it and wake up; anxious that this was all a dream and nothing else.

The hole was larger that you expected. "Bakura?" you whispered to the atmosphere, rather that the soulless body in front of you. The empty shell didn't say anything back. "Bakura?!" you started to raise your voice, "BAKURA!" You hollered into the empty night, just like the empty, soulless, stiff, abandoned male in front you.

Beads of tears flowed down your cheeks, "No…you are alive I know you are…you are…alive…" you started whispering slowly to yourself, to comfort you in a way that no one could at this moment.

Pain…Your heart was ripped and forever will be.

"Bakura, come on wake up…" you drifted off the last word as your own blood was soaking into his. "Bakura, I am sorry…so sorry…………. it's all my fault…." You kissed his cold dead lips and remembering the warm soft capture they used to have, "sorry….sorry………sorry." Was all you could say as you leaned against him. "I love you." You reached around the stone including the body and tore at the ropes. He fell forward. Nothing but an unoccupied body that was vacant to any soul.

Pain…

You ignored it. But you shifted Bakura and gently laid him on the ground. You stared at his open eyes. "Come on Bakura, you gotta wake up…I know you aren't..." You couldn't bring yourself to say it. "I know you aren't - aren't….dead."

Pain…doubled the longer you stayed.

You couldn't take it anymore. The pain was too unbearable along with the raspy stingy while trying to get the air in your lungs. You fell on his body as you cried into the night one last time. You reached over at his face and closed his eyes. "You can't leave me here…you just can't…. …I'll meet you my love…I'll meet you." You silenced off as you faded.

Pain…took over and left you unconscious on top of the one person you loved and forever will never forget.

The sun shined on your face making you wake up. But you realized that you were in the graveyard anymore...
