//Where should I start, disjointed heart

I've got no commitment to my own flesh and blood

Left all alone, far from my home

No one to hear me, to hear my ill heart//

Mutou Yuugi sneezed a little, bringing a hand up to his nose to wipe it. He had a headache and he was pretty sure his eyes were bloodshot from all his crying last night, they were sore anyway. It seemed lately that all he could do was cry -- everyone, even his grandfather, had left him for his darker half, his cool side. The brave, oh-so-wonderful ex-Pharaoh and Game King. He should have known never to trust, never to open up as everything was torn away from you in the end. It had happened to him more than once but this time by the one person he thought he could trust.

Yami.

Why did everything have to revolve around that Pharaoh no bonkotsu? What was so great about him anyway, he was just a spirit. And here he was, weak, pathetic little Yuugi practically begging for everyone's attention when Mazaki Anzu and Hiroto Tristan told him to stop following them around like a lovesick puppy. It was true, Yami......all of them didn't care about what happened to him. If they had, one of them would have gone after him in the rain last night.

He had run to the only place he could think of.

The only person he was sure would care.

There was a knock on the door and the raven-haired boy entered the room, smiling slightly when he saw the blood-shot amethyst eyes. Otogi Ryouji cared about Yuugi, he had once said to the other that if he ever needed something or wanted comfort to go to him and that was what had happened last night. He had heard the others in the hallway after school, watching them laugh when Mazaki and Hiroto told them they'd told Yuugi to "fuck off and never bother them again". Otogi had been furious -- why would anyone want to hurt an angel? Yes, the small one was an angel to him, having brought him out of the darkness and into the light once more. He had slammed Tristan into the lockers, yelling at the four of them that they had no right to treat little Yuugi like that after all the little one had done for them. He had helped the make inu get the money for his sister's eye operation, saved both idiots from the school bully Ushio from what he heard, found a practice place for Mazaki to dance and most of all had set Yami free from the puzzle.

Needless to say that had been when Bakura Ryou, Ishtal Marik, their yamis and Kaiba Seto had showed up, wondering what all the yelling was about. Once the raven-haired teen had told them the hikaris had to physically restrain their yamis from sending the Idiot Club to the shadow realm. The six of them had spent the afternoon looking for the small angel but to no avail, as they had found the puzzle discarded in the school courtyard, the small one's deck lying scattered beside it.

And then Yuugi had showed up at his place in the middle of the night, shivering from the rain and cold.

"How are you feeling, Yuugi?" Otogi asked softly, placing a bowl of hot soup on the bedside table and sitting down. The small teen looked away, feeling ashamed for having not noticed the lies for so long. The other sighed, taking one tiny hand in his own. "It would be better if you talked about it with me." He noticed a tear trail down the freshman's cheek and wiped it away, only to have more follow.

"Mou, how could I have ignored the truth for so long?" the little one whispered, swallowing deeply and wincing as hot, fresh tears ran over his dry red skin. "They never cared, they only wanted him, never me." Yuugi laughed bitterly, amethyst orbs saddening. "But it was nice......for a while. Then everything came crashing down yesterday, I don't even know if I have a heart anymore since they let it fall to the floor and smash."

"I heard about what happened." Otogi's smile grew slightly. "I got Hiroto for you, they didn't even deserve to be called your friends if they only wanted that fuckin' asshole."

"I'm tired of being ignored," the angel said, as if never hearing his words. "I'm tired of being stood up for." Amethyst met emerald.

"I'm tired of living in a fantasy world. I want......I want to start a new life, Otogi-kun, a new attitude, a new style, a new hobby. The buckles and leather belong to Yami, as far as I'm concerned to them I'm just a copycat, exactly like the card." Yuugi's tears stopped and the raven-haired designer gave a brief smile.

"I'll help you start over, so will Ryou, Bakura, Marik, Malik, Mokuba and Seto. We all care for you, not that bastard that ruined your life. We're not going to betray you for him." There was a soft knock on the door and it opened, revealing Ryou and the others, including Mokuba. The half-albino smiled, bowing and they took positions in the room.

"Sorry for eavesdropping," the tall brunette apologized for them all as his little brother bounced onto the bed, crawling up halfway. "You want to change, hm, Yuugi?" The smaller duelist nodded, giving a half-hearted smile. "Yes. I don't want to be the one they threw away like trash," he replied as Otogi let go of his hand.

"Then we'll help you," Marik commented, motioning to himself and the two yamis in the room in his next sentence. "After all, you helped us make a change, why can't we exchange the favour?" Bakura grinned, hands in his pockets. "Un. When we're done with you, those heartless bastards won't even recognize you."

Yuugi bowed his head, familiar warmth flooding his rain-cold heart. "Arigatou. It's nice to know I'm wanted."

The teacher looked over her class list for the year, adjusting her glasses when she noticed a new name on it. Grumbling slightly and looking towards the door, she did a double take. The new student looked almost exactly like Mutou Yami......

She cleared her throat before whistling. The class shut up and sat down. "Class, it seems there's a new student today and I wasn't informed of his arrival." The six in the back row exchanged knowing glances, smirks on their faces. They had done a lot to change him, helped heal the shattered and broken heart the others had left them to pick up. "Please welcome Yumah Ishtal to the school, Malik and Marik's cousin from Egypt. He'll be joining us this year so be nice."

Yami looked up from his duel and his crimson eyes went wide when the new student entered the classroom. It was Yuugi, he was sure of it......but why the drastic change? 'Ojiisan will be glad to know he's alright,' the spirit thought to himself.

One of the students interrupted his thoughts. "Dude, are you sure you're related to the Ishtals? You look more like Mutou than them."

Amethyst met crimson in a cold gaze before turning back to the student. "I've never met him before in my life," Yuugi/Yumah replied cooly before going to take the seat Bakura had reserved for him between the two yamis, never breaking their gaze until he sat down. Malik clapped him on the back before class began.

It was certainly going to be an interesting year.........
