Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Insomniac ❯ Just for... ( Chapter 2 )
Velvetina: Hi guy's…ok its been ages since I updated but I started to write this chapter and I had all of these ideas but I just couldn't get them down on paper in a way which satisfied me, so I ended up writing a paragraph a day and going over it until I was happy, which I'm not ^_^ Anyway a shout out goes to my new awesome beta DEME and this chapter is dedicated to her. As always Yu-gi-oh! doesn't belong to me and the song is by Nickelback.
Chapter two: Just for
Jou walked home deep in thought; which was very unusual for the blonde. He didn't know why the incident with Kaiba bothered him so much, but it did. Shrugging off his worry, Jou entered his house and called out.
"Dad, I'm home." He went into the living room and blinked when he couldn't see his father slouched on the couch with a can a beer in one hand.
"Hey Jou." Jou span round and stared gob smacked at his father who was dressed in a suit.
"Dad, what's going on?"
"I went and joined an alcoholics group and got a job." Makimo Jounouchi led his son to the couch and sat him down. "I heard you talking to your friends about getting a full time job and doing college part time when you graduated and I realized I should be doing more to support us. You're just a kid and I've been wallowing on that bitch who is your mother for far to long."
"That's great dad. Where are you working then?"
"I'm doing some admin work at KaibaCorp. They said that with my old degrees, I'm exactly what they need. I even got part of my payment today to help us along. I don't know what the owner is like, but he sure as hell is generous when it comes to pay."
"Kaiba, generous?!" Jou yelled
"That's right, he's in your class isn't he. Listen Jou, I know you two don't get along, but please don't annoy him too badly now I'm working for him."
"But…"
"No buts kid, we really need this. Now why don't we go out and celebrate." So they did, go out to celebrate that is. Makimo took them to a new bar that had opened up; father and son ate better than they had in years. They got home at eight and when they stepped in the door the phone was ringing. Jou ran and picked it up.
"Hey?"
"Hey Jou, it's Yugi. I was wondering if you wanted to come over for a couple of hours to do math homework together. It's algebra and I know how you hate that."
"Cheers Yug, let me just ask my dad." Covering up the handset, Jou turned to Makimo and asked permission. "Yeah it's ok as long as I'm back by twelve, which means I leave yours at half past eleven." Jou quickly grabbed his stuff and yelled goodbye to his dad. Thinking to take a shortcut to the game shop, Jou went through the park and came out on the far side. This meant all he had to do was double back along the roads for five minutes; taking him ten less minutes to reach Yugi's. As he walked along the streets Jou slowed slightly to gape at the mansions on either side of him. Sure he'd walked this way a million times, but he'd never paid much attention. Suddenly the amber-eyed boy came to a complete stop as a familiar figure walked out of a gateway from one of the most impressive mansions.
"Kaiba." Jou breathed softly watching the taller boy. Normally Kaiba stalked everywhere, but this time the brunette looked defeated. His head and shoulders were tilted downwards and the footsteps faltered as if the owner of them wasn't walking towards any particular destination but towards some unknown goal. Wherever he was going, Kaiba was heading the same way that Jounouchi was heading. So the blonde stayed back watching the azure-eyed teen from the shadows. As they moved from a classy section of town into a seedy part, Kaiba stopped, and with a cry of pure torment, the tall boy spun and smacked the nearest wall. The scream cut right through Jou, it was inhuman because no one could possibly feel that much self-hate. As he cautiously approached Kaiba, Jou could hear the others labored breathing.
I want to take his eyes out
Just for looking at you
Yes I do
"Ummm Kaiba?" The brunette shot straight up and glared at him half-heartedly.
"What the hell do you want mutt?!" Ignoring the insult for now, Jou stepped more into the light.
"You hit that wall pretty hard, you should go get that hand sorted out." Looking numb, Kaiba stretched out his arm and the blood dripping from his hand glinted in the streetlight. The hand was a complete mess. Jou couldn't tell where flesh and blood stopped or started. However, he did notice-with a lurch of his stomach-that he could see white bone clearly in places.
"Listen Inu, I've never needed your help and I don't need it now. I can look after myself." With that the CEO stalked off looking like his usual self apart from the blood staining the white trench coat. Not knowing why he did it; Jou yelled out.
"This is a bad part of town Kaiba, a rich boy like yourself won't last five minutes here. You should go home." But Jou was ignored. "Humph, it's his funeral." Jou muttered and went swiftly on his way to Yugi's.
I want to take his hands off
Just for touching you
Yes I do
"Hey Jou." Yugi greeted him cheerfully as he opened the door. After paying his respects to Grandpa Mutou, Jou followed Yugi up to his room. All thoughts of Kaiba were soon swept from his mind as he tackled the puzzling task of why the hell 36x / 2y + 8k would equal 24yk (this is a random question and doesn't have an answer please do not attempt to figure it out.) At one point Yugi's eyes went blank and Jou knew that the small boy was conversing with his Yami. Sure enough, a second later Yugi appeared to change.
"Hey Yam's." Jou greeted him cheerfully knowing how much the ex-Pharaoh hated that nickname. And sure enough the regal face took on a disgruntled look but Yami had long ago given up telling Jou to stop.
"Hello Jounouchi." When the blonde and Yami had first met, the pair had found themselves in a dilemma. Jou refused to be called by his first name and Yami seemed to have something against calling people by their nicknames. In the end the two of them agreed that the tri-haired bout would have to just call Jou by his full last name. "Yugi explained the concept of `algebra' to me. I remember it and was very good at it so he said I should be the one to help you."
"Ah cheers dude." Surprisingly, Yami was very good at algebra and the Pharaoh's stern voice was enough to keep Jou's mind on the problem and then they were done. "Thank's Yami." The shorter boy nodded showing he acknowledged Jou's thank you and the suddenly Yugi was back. Yugi yawned and rubbed his eyes making Jou glance at the clock.
"Shit, its half past eleven. I've got to go Yug."
"Yeah it's ok, I'll see you tomorrow Jou." Yugi called as the blonde whirlwind sped out of the house. Jou decided to go home the way he came and set off at a fast pace but couldn't help himself from slowing down upon hearing a loud groan coming from an alleyway.
And I want to rip his heart out
Just for hurting you
And I want to break his mind down
Yes I do
Peering around the corner, Jou saw two guys kicking at a body on the floor and without stopping to think, ran down yelling.
"Oi you! What the fuck do you think you're doing?" Stopping in his tracks, Jou swallowed when the two of them headed towards him. But being a typical male and having bucketfuls of pride, Jou stuck to his guns. As the first lad reached him, Jou swung his book bag, which happened to contain his heavy textbook, and with a loud thud the guy went flying to the ground. On the follow through twist, Jou did a high kick that he'd learnt on a kickboxing course and managed to catch the second guy on the jaw. Unfortunately, Jou's landing was unstable and he fell backwards twisting his ankle. Landing on the first man he'd hit, Jounouchi looked up blearily in time to see a fist descending. Jou rolled quickly and managed to have the fist only glace off his cheekbone. From the yell of pain below him, Jou knew it could have been a lot worse. He grabbed a leg and with no other options, bit it. After a few seconds of hanging on grimly, Jou caught a kick on the chin and he let go with a howl. Instead of pulverizing him, the guy lifted his buddy onto his shoulders and left as quickly possible. Not caring why it happened, Jou crawled over to the prone body on the floor.
"Kaiba! Bloody typical. I get beaten up for you because you don't listen to me. Somebody up there hates me." Jou scowled at the sky and quite randomly the heavens opened, tipping heavy rain down onto the pair of them. "Not funny!" Sighing, the blonde slung his bag on his back and stiffly stood up while cradling the brunette in his arms. Limping, Jou made a slow and painful journey to the mansion that he'd seen Kaiba exit earlier.
And I want to make him
Regret life since the day he met you
Yes I do
"Big brother!" Came a horrified scream as Jou entered the house and looking up, up, up to the top of a marble staircase, Jounouchi saw Mokuba Kaiba dressed in some cotton sky blue Pajamas.
"I found some guys beating him up. I don't know if they took anything." Jou was now physically shaking from standing upright but refused to collapse until the boy he held was safely in a bed. Jou didn't know what it was but something made him desperately want to keep this boy safe from any harm and he intended to do just that.
"Ra Jou, how are you managing to stand?"
"I don't think I'm gonna be standin' for much longer so please show me where to dump your bro." Nodding, Mokuba swiftly guided Jou to Seto's room and with relief he set the brunette carefully down on top of the silk sheets.
"Jou I'm going to get a doctor to come over, you should get yourself checked out to."
"Nah I'm alright kid, just gonna have a few bruises in da morning. Do you mind if I ring my dad and tell him I ain't gonna be home?"
"I could get a limo to take you home."
"Don't bother more people than you have to, I'll just kip on one of the sofas or something."
"No, no. You can stay in the room next to Seto's." While Mokuba was contacting the doctor, Jou called his dad and explained the situation. He found the younger Kaiba in the kitchen.
"Hey Mokuba, it's all cool with my dad, I just have to leave early enough to grab my stuff."
"I'll get you settled in your room then." The younger boy started once more up the staircase.
"No! I wanna stay with your bro… you know check that everything's ok." Mokuba gave him a puzzled look but agreed.
And I want to make him
Take back all that he took from you
Yes I do
The doctor swiftly checked over Seto and proclaimed;
"His hand's a mess. I'm going to have to put stitches in. He has two cracked ribs and a mild concussion. It looks as though you got there just in time to stop any permanent damage Mr. Jounouchi." Checking that the CEO was still out cold the doctor began to sew up the hand. Swallowing hard, Jou sat through it incase the other boy woke up. He felt his burning anger ripping through him until the last stitch was done and he knew that Kaiba was now definitely going to be ok. Mokuba went to escort the doctor out of the mansion and Jou laid down next to the brunette watching his face carefully. Without realizing it, the blonde dropped into the darkness that was sleep while drawing the hurt boy into his arms. Mokuba came back into the room and a small smile came onto his face as he looked at the pair on the bed.
"He could be exactly what you need big brother." He whispered softly as he spread the blanket from the chair over the two. The only response was for the pair to hold each other more tightly in their sleep.
