The Invitation

After a long and hard day at North Caroline High School, a tall blonde girl, Rachel walked home with her friend Kim. The girls were at the age of 15 and freshmen in their high school. Rachel and Kim did basically everything together and they were the best of friends. Today, Kim was walking home with Rachel to her house to work on their dueling skills.

"Hey Rachel," said Kim as they walked through Rachel's front door. "Did you hear about that kid Yugi Motou?"

"No, actually I didn't," said Rachel guiding Kim to her bedroom.

"You wont believe it," she said as she sat on Rachel's bed. "This short guy named Yugi Motou defeated Seto Kaiba in a duel. And he's about the same age as we are!"

"Unbelievable!" said Rachel giving her full attention to Kim now. "Did they say anything more about this Yugi?"

"I don't know," said Kim sighing afterwards. "I saw it on the news this morning before I left for school. I only got to see half of it, but they did show a picture of him."

"What did he look like?" asked Rachel now clinging to Kim's every word.

"He looked kind of odd..." said Kim. "He had spiky black hair with red tips and he also had blond bangs. He had dreamy purple eyes too. The only catch is, is that he's really short."

"Darn!" said Rachel angrily. "I'm cursed. He sounds so cute! Maybe the television station messed up with their graphics or something."

"I don't think so, I..." started Kim when Rachel's brother Sam stormed into Rachel's room.

"Are you talking about me?' he said laughing.

"No dimwit," said Rachel glaring at him. "And why were you listening to our conversation anyway?"

"Mom told me to give you this," Sam said handing Rachel a large brown package. "It came in the mail."

"Thanks!" Rachel yelled as she grabbed the package and pushed Sam out of her room. "I wonder what it is?"

"Open it!" said Kim eagerly.

Rachel ripped off the brown paper and through it aside. Then she opened the flaps of the cardboard box and sat in a state of shock at its contents. There was a red glove, a map, 2 star chips and a letter. Rachel went to the letter first and it read:

Dear Rachel Bozarth,

Maximillion Pegasus, the creator of duel monsters has invited you to participate in an upcoming tournament on the Duelist Kingdom. You were chosen for your past tournaments and duels. Only the best will be on the island, so prepare.

Enclosed is 2 starchips, a glove, in which you will hold your starchips and a map of the island.

Starchips are proof that one is a duelist. You may gamble as many as you like on each of your duels. If for some reason you lose all of your starchips, you will be disqualified and shipped off the island. However, if you manage to gain 10 starchips you will be granted entrance into Pegasus's castle and be able to compete in the finals. Board the ship to the Duelist Kingdom in Columbus Harbor at 8:00 pm. Thank you.

Industrial Illusions

"Whoa!" said Kim looking at the contents of the package. "You are so lucky. I wish I were you."

"Hey don't talk like that," said Rachel. "You may have gotten a package too."

"I don't think so," said Kim sadly.

After Kim went home, sure enough Rachel go a phone call form her. Kim did get invited and Rachel was happy for her. Partly because Kim deserved it and second, Rachel didn't want to go to the duelist Kingdom alone.
